Nexus 7 2012 can only be charged in swiched off mode - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a nexus 7 2012 which was rooted, twrped and flashed to Nought. And suddenly I noticed it could not be charged when turned on. I flashed it back to stock in fastboot mode and tried with factory image as 4.1.2, 4.4 and 5.1.1. Locked the bootloader too. But it kept with same problems:
1. No charging when power is on.
2. Turn off the power and replug the cable, the battery start charging.
3. No adb connection when power is on .(No problem with the usb driver since I have anothe nexus without any problem of connection)
4. Fastboot works
5. when tried to turn on USB debugging tablet restarts automatically after a while and USB debugging is still off after restart.
6. When tried to tick/untick MTP the system restarts after a while
I believe this must have somthing to do the sw which control the USB . But I don't know how to solve this. Someone has ideas?
Thanks

[Q] N7 doesn't go past Google logo

I was running an August MIUIAndroid ROM release, with no other modifications.
Downloaded the latest 12/10 release and placed it on my Internal SD. Rebooted to recovery, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache and flashed the release.
Rebooted tablet, wherein it passed the Google logo and then just stayed blank.
Pressed volume up/down and power for a few seconds, went into fastboot. Tried to go into recovery by selecting that option in fastboot menu, tablet restarts and stays at the Google logo.
Went back into fastboot, connected the tablet to my PC with a view to using mskip's toolkit. PC doesn't recognise the tablet despite drivers being present, and the tablet becomes unresponsive in fastboot mode (can't move between menu options with volume buttons and even on disconnecting USB, have to long press power to restart).
Any help would be appreciated as I'm unsure whether ASUS will honour the warranty...
You said you can still go to bootloader, then try do manual boot(fastboot boot nameofcustomrecovery.img) and restore your backup(that is if you have any).
Tapatalked from my Ace 2
Easy
Connect it to the PC (better use the one you used in the past, with all the drivers... also use the cable that came with it)
turn it on spamming the vol until you get in the screen with start, shut down and recovery.
Go to recovery and boom, you are back to recovery
dont do nothing on the pc, just the fact that its connect will enable it:good:
Thank you for both of your replies.
This is what I did:
Connected my Galaxy Nexus to PC
Switched on USB Debugging, ADB drivers got auto-installed
Rebooted Galaxy Nexus into Bootloader, appropriate driver got installed
Switched on Nexus 7 in Bootloader mode, started praying
Swapped the Galaxy Nexus with the Nexus 7 - this time it didn't hang
Used mskip's toolkit to flash bootloader, stock recovery and stock ROM
Reason the tablet wasn't being recognised in Bootloader mode earlier was because while I had connected it to the PC many times, I'd never had USB debugging enabled (tablet was unlocked and rooted on my laptop) and had never been in Bootloader while tablet was connected to PC. So the PC didn't know what was connected to it, and presumably due to the issues with the tablet, the PC wasn't able to recognise it and download the drivers...
*huge sigh of relief* Thanks again guys!

[Q] Nexus 7 usb is messed up

Hello and happy new year to all of you.
Unfortunately the year isn't starting well for my Nexus 7 (2012). It doesn't charge when its ON. It's charging when it's OFF!
Fastboot works ok, but usb doesn't work at all when device is ON (neither charging, and PC doesn't recognize anything when plugged in).
I did factory reset, wiped everything, (data, system, cache) flashed stock google firmware from fastboot nothing again.
I cant say that it's a hardware issue because as I said, Fastboot works ok and charging works on AC socket when the device is off.
Any ideas?..

[Q] No usb after 5.0.2

Hi i have a nexus 7 (2012) everything was working fine until android 5. The device was slow and almost unusable. Then the 5.0.2 update came out and guess what? I updated it and now my laptop wont recognize the device so i tried a different cable and nothing. I plugged the nexus 7 in my second computer and nothing not even the sound that means you plugged something in the usb port. So i went to my brothers house and tried his computer.... the same... nothing. We plugged his nexus 7 (2012) 5.0.2 wich is the exact same device as mine and it works so we thought that it was the usb connector on the device and we switched my connector with his....NOTHING happens. computer wont recognize the device, no sound, no pop-up, no ADB detection. Does anyone have the same problem or a solution on how to downgrade 5.0.2 back to 4.4 without usb cable?
Thank you
Did you tried out to start n7 into fastboot mode and recovery mode?
Is usb not available also there?
fastboot and recovery mode also has no USB. absolutely nothing happens. when i connect the device it charges but the lightning icon does not appear on the battery in the status bar. and its not the usb port on the N7 i changed it.
?????????????????
Same here
I have the same Problem - a N7 GSM with 5.0.2 and no communication via USB.
I have tried different computers with Win7 and Ubuntu14.10. As well as differnt cables. (And all combinations of that work with my HTC M7, by the way)
Under Linux, not even lsusb shows the device, or dmesg shows any connection to a usb device.
To be completly honest, I did not give much love to my N7, I have been using it hardly. But when I did, I have been flashing some differnt Roms and testing different bootloaders so this might be some kind of my fault.
i updated to 5,1 and still the same problem so i assume its hardware related. but i know it is not the USB connector because i tried it on my brothers N7. and it works
Mine is quirky, comp recognizes it and can order boot but sideload and push to device don't work. Its odd.

[Q] No Command Bootloop

So I purchased a Nexus 10 off eBay with the issue of when it turns on it boots up to the android guy facing up with the red ! and says no command if I hit power button and tap volume up I can get into stock recovery. I tried wiping the cache no luck I have tried factory reset no luck. So I figure I would just flash the stock image via fastboot. But I can not get my PC to recognize the tablet at all no dings or anything when I plug it in. I have downloaded the drivers for the Nexus 10 from Samsung website. I have installed google drivers. I have installed Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit and downloaded the drivers from his toolkit with no luck. When in device manager and plug in the the N10 nothing pops up in device manager. So I figure well maybe its a bad USB port on the N10 but if I plug it into a charger when its turned off it will turn on. Also if I plug my OTG drive into the N10 while its on the no command screen my OTG drive will light up like its loading so then it can't be a bad USB port. I also have tried 2 different usb cables. Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated.

Charger exist but USB is host

Hello!
The phone stops charging couple days ago.
Before that it's suddenly switch off and not charge, and I thought the battery is dead. But after long charge its turned on again. Now when Android is booted, there is no charging and no seen by PC in ADB or MTP modes.
But if I power phone off, charging is back again, but slower than usual.
Flash Tool is also work, I tried to flash two times, the flashing was successful and without any changes about charging when its on
And when phone in fastboot mode, it says "cable NOT connected", however recovery flashing is OK.
Then i found
Code:
Charger exist but USB is host
Message in the boot log.
Don't know how to deal with this USB state. And no matter cable connected or not while booting. I use original USB cable from phone's package.
How to fix that? Is it software or hardware issue? I'm confused.
PS. Sorry for my bad English.
