[Q] No Command Bootloop - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I purchased a Nexus 10 off eBay with the issue of when it turns on it boots up to the android guy facing up with the red ! and says no command if I hit power button and tap volume up I can get into stock recovery. I tried wiping the cache no luck I have tried factory reset no luck. So I figure I would just flash the stock image via fastboot. But I can not get my PC to recognize the tablet at all no dings or anything when I plug it in. I have downloaded the drivers for the Nexus 10 from Samsung website. I have installed google drivers. I have installed Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit and downloaded the drivers from his toolkit with no luck. When in device manager and plug in the the N10 nothing pops up in device manager. So I figure well maybe its a bad USB port on the N10 but if I plug it into a charger when its turned off it will turn on. Also if I plug my OTG drive into the N10 while its on the no command screen my OTG drive will light up like its loading so then it can't be a bad USB port. I also have tried 2 different usb cables. Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated.

Help required - Bootloader only

Hi Guys/girls
I received my nexus 7 today (its lovely!) and then proceeded to attempt to root it so I can change the dpi etc.
I unlocked the bootloader using the Nexus 7 toolkit and that worked fine.
I then went to do the one click to root/flash etc and then got stuck on downloading boot.img.
After leaving it for a few hours I gave up and the nexus booted straight back into the os.
My next attempt was to root using the su binarys via fastboot. This again failed on sending the file. I also noticed that my device is locked at fastboot mode when the usb cable is plugged in, e.g the up/down doesn't work unless I unplug the cable. I have tried different cables and a different PC!
My next step was then to use the toolkit to reset back to factory incase I had screwed something up, so this deleted the bootloader etc as it should and then froze on sending the .img across.
I now have a un responsive fastboot when usb is plugged in and no recovery or bootable tablet, any hints/solutions?
Thanks

yes, actually : D
download this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809195
if you dont have that one.
pick your device from the list.
install the drivers for your device with device unplugged
make sure the device is fully off
plug in into the computer and hold down the power and volume buttons
windows should pop up saying nexus 7 bootloader driver successfully installed and then you can use the whole fastboot menu thing without a problem and reboot to recovery or whatever.
my suggestion is to install twrp recovery project 2.x.x.x
oh yeah, its a bug with the bootloader that it freezes when you plug the usb cable into the wall or a computer without the proper drivers

you are 100% positive you did EXACTLY what i said?
I have no idea what went wrong
That's the problem with toolkits though. People don't know what they're doing and when something goes wrong you don't know how to fix it!! I understand where toolkits come from, but they are only useful if you know what happens in the background when you click on a button.

I mess with several android and other devices on my notebook..
Doing so i install drivers for them and often have the exact same issue as you are having..
Do a search for a program called usbdview.. Install to your pc..
With the nexus unplugged run the program..Delete everything in the list that you do NOT HAVE plugged into your computer..Especially anything that says ADB.. OR ANDROID..
Plug in the nexus 7 refresh the list.. and delete the entries created for it..
Unplug the nexus .. reboot the pc.. Then download or use the tool kit to install the latest Adb drivers for nexus 7 ..
reboot the pc.. then plug in the nexus ..
After doing the above see if you can now use fastboot/ adb...
The above will insure its not a driver issue.Often computers get usb devices confused and causes them to hang ..
Good Luck

Put me on the right track, my PC was basically assuming that it was my S3, in the end I removed everything with samsung in it from the registry, uninstalled all the drivers then tried again, correctly showing as a nexus and not a samsung

[Q] No usb after 5.0.2

Hi i have a nexus 7 (2012) everything was working fine until android 5. The device was slow and almost unusable. Then the 5.0.2 update came out and guess what? I updated it and now my laptop wont recognize the device so i tried a different cable and nothing. I plugged the nexus 7 in my second computer and nothing not even the sound that means you plugged something in the usb port. So i went to my brothers house and tried his computer.... the same... nothing. We plugged his nexus 7 (2012) 5.0.2 wich is the exact same device as mine and it works so we thought that it was the usb connector on the device and we switched my connector with his....NOTHING happens. computer wont recognize the device, no sound, no pop-up, no ADB detection. Does anyone have the same problem or a solution on how to downgrade 5.0.2 back to 4.4 without usb cable?
Thank you
Did you tried out to start n7 into fastboot mode and recovery mode?
Is usb not available also there?
fastboot and recovery mode also has no USB. absolutely nothing happens. when i connect the device it charges but the lightning icon does not appear on the battery in the status bar. and its not the usb port on the N7 i changed it.
?????????????????
Same here
I have the same Problem - a N7 GSM with 5.0.2 and no communication via USB.
I have tried different computers with Win7 and Ubuntu14.10. As well as differnt cables. (And all combinations of that work with my HTC M7, by the way)
Under Linux, not even lsusb shows the device, or dmesg shows any connection to a usb device.
To be completly honest, I did not give much love to my N7, I have been using it hardly. But when I did, I have been flashing some differnt Roms and testing different bootloaders so this might be some kind of my fault.
i updated to 5,1 and still the same problem so i assume its hardware related. but i know it is not the USB connector because i tried it on my brothers N7. and it works
Mine is quirky, comp recognizes it and can order boot but sideload and push to device don't work. Its odd.

[Q] HELP with recovery, no usb access to nexus 7, not detecting with official cable.

Ok so long story short, i have a nexus 7 2012 which a rooted and installed cyanogen mod.
I was using it as a car install and works perfect, i'm using an otg cable to mount usb sticks, triggering soft shutdown and powering the nexus etc. So usb seems to be working fine.
Basically i removed the tablet it to modify the bootloader to turn on automatically with ac power applied, if the battery runs out i have to manually power on with button, but now i'm running into a problem.
Ever since taking the tablet out and trying to connect over usb, none of my computers detect the tablet.
I've tried different operating systems, drivers, cables etc etc.
Also changed from mtp to ptp in storage and also turned on usb debugging mode. If i connect an otg cable the nexus see's the otg and i can mount usb's etc.
So i thought i might try recover the nexus back to factory, maybe there was an issue with the rom corrupted etc, I've downloaded the original 4.2.2 firmware which is currently installed.
Booted into recovery and tried re-installing the 4.2.2 zip, it keeps aborting. A guy in work tried to use sideloader and connect via adb. no luck.
I'm not very familiar with the android platform so i've no other ideas what to do and other idea's how to recover now.
The guy i work with mentioned using a usb jig, would that be the way to go or can anyone else suggest some else that might help.
Thanks
Before you updated when was the last time you connected your N7 to your computer?
When you connect your N7 to your computer does it act like it is charging? Have you tried more than one computer? I had a similar problem with mine last year & sent it in 3 times. Asus replaced both the USB port board & the main board on different occassions. I suspect your mainboard might be faulty.
Does adb see the device

I last connected the nexus to the laptop a few monts back to load some music onto it, didn't have a problem. It's only been connected to a computer maybe 3 times. once to root/rom it then another few times to load music etc.
I can't see why the usb board maybe faulty as i can read data from a usb key when the otg cable is connected.
It's a strange one. You could be right, i might try pick up a broken nexus and swap some parts. Usb board etc.

Yes adb is shown in device manager, but it's not recognizing the nexus, comes up with an error 10 , cannot start. etc etc

I am having this same problem on my (unrooted) HTC One after attempting to "convert" it from an AT&T to a Google Play Edition device with the procedure described here.
As part of the procedure, I attempted to flash the stock Google Play Edition ROM using fastboot commands, but I got an error message. The instructions say to just try the flash again, but the phone no longer connects properly via USB (error 10) while in bootloader mode. While in bootloader mode, the phone indicates there is some sort of problem (a line showing the OS version is highlighted in red), and attempting to enter recovery mode does nothing but display a phone with a big red X in it. The phone seems to operate fine and responds to ADB commands when the phone is fully booted, albeit with the old OS (not Google Play Edition) still in place.
Any Android device could theoretically get in this state. We're sort of "paralyzed", because everything we want to do to regain control of the bootloader and fix the situation seems to require issuing fastboot commands from a computer connected to the phone while it's in bootloader mode. Yet entering recovery mode or getting a computer to connect to it via USB no longer seems possible.
I wonder if there's another way to issue fastboot commands without relying on the USB connection to a computer?

USB C charging issue

So after getting around to installing the July security patch a couple days ago USB C charging stopped working on my Nexus 6P. If I use a USB A to USB C cable it will charge, but not if I use USB C to USB C. This persisted over multiple cable and chargers.
I tried to wipe the cache but had a problem getting into recovery - I could get to the boot loader but when i select Recovery i get a 'No Command' error screen. (eventually i found out i could power and volume up from this screen to get recovery, but the wipe cache didn't fix anything.)
Then I installed Oreo hoping that would take care of the issue but no luck. Any thoughts? Anybody else get this from the security patch?
Google support has not been particularly helpful.
Hi, i just started getting this issue today. I installed android O yesterday. My original charger which is C to C wont work but C to A will work fine. I've also had my 6p not recognized by my pc. It only charges when i plug it in. Tried different cables, different computers, but I think it might by my charging port. Google support tried, they didn't know what was going on.
But I'm stuck without a custom recovery right now and have lost root access. But phone is working fine. Messed up during flashing, didnt flash custom recovery thinking twrp would be intact but nope. And I cant use ADB to reflash anything cause my stupid 6p wont get recognized by my pc. haha

haha. use bootloader mode and fastboot flash the TWRP you overwrote when you flashed over recovery. ADB only works in Recovery, but fastboot works in bootloader mode which previously said you can access.

usb only charges, no data transfer

my nexus 6 will only charge no data transfer and pc wont recognize it. When i connect it to the pc it goes staright to charge mode and the usb trident symbol doesnt ever appear. In developer options usb configure is stuck in "charge mode" only. Ive tried different roms from pie to mm . i reinstalled bootloader and radio, tried twrp back ups and still the same. Had new charging port put in phone thinking that was the problem but didnt help. Ive searched google but couldnt find anything. Any Ideas, really appreciate it thx
When I installed stock rom which was android 7.1 it changed phone back to encrypted. Now i have to format internal drive in order to install a pie rom. Does anyone think that formatting internal drive might fix problem with not being able to do anything but charge phone from usb port, because if that doesnt fix it there would be no way for me to put any rom on my internal drive to install it.. Does anyone have any suggestions

Just to double check that adb devices shows your serial #. If not, it may be a driver issue.
Computer doesn’t see it, when I enter adb devices it doesn’t show up. Nothing shows up in device manager either: Also when I enter fast boot on the phone “power lower volume button” it says “connect usb data cable” I’ve trued numerous cables that work fine on my other phone. So it’s not the cable. After I plug them into phone it still says connect usb data cable.
I also have a thumb drive with a micro usb connecter that used to work on the phone. Now the phone doesn’t see it when you plug it in to the phone. But it works on my other phone so it’s not the thumb drive

It sounds like a driver problem. Is it a windows PC? Have you tried installing the Google USB driver? I've had similar issues, and reinstalling the driver(s) has worked for me.
It’s windows 10 and I reinstalled driver, other thing is in my car when I plug it in to the usb slot for android auto, it doesn’t show up in my car either and it used too.
It’s like the phone is stuck in charge only mode and I can’t get it out of that

When you connect your other phone to your PC, does its serial # show up in adb devices? If so, I'm out of suggestions.
1 more thing.. Have you enabled USB debugging in Developer Options?
Other phones shows up and in devolpers options in “usb configuration” you can set it to mtp but when you hit enter it goes back to charge only. I was on” aiop 14.0 rom” when it happened but it was working fine on that rom , then one day android auto kept saying connect usb, so when I got home I tried to plug it into pc and nothing. So I replaced charging port thinking that was problem but it didn’t help. Flashed other roms and even went back to stock, reflashed bootloader nothing helped. I was hoping someone here had seen this before cause I googled it and nothing like this could I find

Forget USB configuration for a minute. In developer options, under debugging, USB debugging needs to be enabled.
usb debugging is enable also. even tried turning it off and back on again, didnt help.
you know when you connect phone to pc and you normally see the usb trident symbol on your phone, well when i connect it to the pc i dont see that symbol it just goes straight to charging but even charging i should still see the usb symbol and i dont,
