Charger exist but USB is host - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Hello!
The phone stops charging couple days ago.
Before that it's suddenly switch off and not charge, and I thought the battery is dead. But after long charge its turned on again. Now when Android is booted, there is no charging and no seen by PC in ADB or MTP modes.
But if I power phone off, charging is back again, but slower than usual.
Flash Tool is also work, I tried to flash two times, the flashing was successful and without any changes about charging when its on
And when phone in fastboot mode, it says "cable NOT connected", however recovery flashing is OK.
Then i found
Code:
Charger exist but USB is host
Message in the boot log.
Don't know how to deal with this USB state. And no matter cable connected or not while booting. I use original USB cable from phone's package.
How to fix that? Is it software or hardware issue? I'm confused.
PS. Sorry for my bad English.

but the most wired thing is i can charge it via an"portable battery"
maybe it is an hardware problem and i can't flash back to my official sbf
warranty is now void?
or can i flash a SBF without connect to PC?
give me a now hope plz
Have you tried the boot loader mode (forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy):
---------------------------------
How to get rsdlite to recognise a phone that won't boot
You flashed, something happened, now screen is black, phone doesn't react, u are in a boot loop, rsdlite cant recognize the phone. you're right here.
To get RSDLIte to recognize your phone you have to enter boot loader mode. this means press VOL-UP + POWER If nothing helps, try pushing VOL UP before!' you put the battery in (RSDLIte should be running and awaiting a new connection at that time) If you are using Windows 7, try seting RSDLite to "compatibility mode: Windows XP SP3".
i have tested the connection in bootmenu and RSDLITE not able to recognize my phone
any ideas?
Hello
Please somebody help me. My notebook doesn't recognise my DEFY via USB. More details: When I got the phone it worked but after a while not always. Sometimes it connected 5 minutes later but nowadays doesn't work at all. By the power charger it's charging normally.
When it's plugged to the computer, the phone's screen lights up, but doesn't connect or charge. If I tick on/off meanwhile the USB debug, the USB sign shows up but it's still not charging or connecting. (I've already tried all 4 options)
Moreover when I remove the USB cable, the USB signal doesn't disappear until I restart the phone or abort the USB in the application manager.
I've already tried to install or uninstall the driver (Moto Helper) but didn't help.
The main problem is that if I connect the phone to the notebook, the device manager doesn't see it. (I tried different computers, Win XP and Win 7)
I did a factory reset several times but nothing happened.
I think there was an automatic software update and maybe the problem started at this time.
This is my first Android phone and I'm not an expert so I really need your help.
I wanted to install a new ROM but the RSD lite doesn't see the phone neither in Bootloader mode. It says: "Connect USB Data Cable" and when I connect it says: "USB" so recognises something.
I'm trying to fix it for weeks but I can't find to solution.
System version: 34.177.3.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Build no: JOREM_U3_3.4.2_177-3
Win7 x64
Sorry about my English and thank you for your help.
I didn't mean bootmenu tommy, BOOTLOADER MODDE: press VOL-UP + POWER, try pushing VOL UP before! to get RSDLIte to recognize your phone(RSDLIte should be running and awaiting a new connection at that time)

Hey poross, I guess that your problem seems like a virus activity or maybe a faulty USB cable. Try another USB cable and another PC (with a good antivirus running, indeed!). Before connecting to the new PC, reset your defy...
I just hope it helps. If not, maybe your defy has a hardware problem...
If you are using windows 7 make sure that you installed good drivers for system x86/x64. I'm using RSD on Windows 7 X64 and I have no problems with it. Check in device manager for some unknown devices after plug phone to USB. If system wont see any new device after plugging it wont be driver problem but something wrong with phone, usb cable or usb port. Even if driver fails system should see the phone like unknown device or something.

actually,i am in bootloader(versoin 9.10) and rsdlite still not able to detect my phone =..=
but i notice that when i plugged it in,the phone showed "transfer mode USB"
but nothing happened in rsdlite,no info of device properties.....
what the hell.....
To tommy:
Let's make a conclusion:
1-You have the correct drivers but RSDLite doesn't recognize your phone even in the bootloader mode
2-The charger can't charge your battery
3-The portable battery CAN charge it! (So the phone connector has no problem)
So: It is most likely that you've got a faulty usb cable
Thanks for dealing with my problem
Chamelleon: The device manager doesn't see anything while the cable is plugged but the phone detects something -probably the USB power- but doesn't connect at all. It happpens in the bootloader mode as well so detects the USB cable but it seems that the phone doesn't send sign to the computer. I haven't had any problem with USB detection, connection (except this phone) for a long time.
MMarv: You mean there's a virus on the phone? if it's the situation, installing a virusbuster to the phone could solve it? Which one is a good prog?
I tried with 3 different cables and still not working. With the wall plug charger and the car's USB socket are ok but none of them charges from the notebook.

I mean Virus on your laptop. Hard reset your phone and try another PC with a good anti-virus installed!
So if cable is ok, usb port in pc and phone is ok it must be driver problem. Delete all what appears as Motorola driver including drivers from system32 and then install it again. You can also try to install it on different PC with 32 bit system. Do not install any unknown drivers, just install Motorola Media Link or Motorola Software Update cause if you have this one and some different it can be problem. Or you just have something wrong with system. First try on different pc with drivers from MML or MSU.
Succeeded.
The solution was incredibly simple. It was strange when I did a factory reset (4 times) and rebooted the phone it restored my acccounts, shortcuts, settings. I ticked off two things: settings/Privacy/Back up my data and Automatic restore. Then took out battery then I put it back and began the reset. After it the phone forgot really everything of my details and now the USB is working perfectly.

however,i have 2ndinit installed
and after factory reset, the phone is still rooted and 2ndinit still here
so will it cause any problem?
Hey Tommy,
I nearly bricked my defy, and the battery was low too. RSDite not able to recognize it. It seemed that charger can't charge the battery either. But I was wrong. The charger was actually charging the battery. I removed the back cover with the charger connected and the battery in place. I tested the two outer connectors of the battery with a voltmeter (when the battery is in place, they are slightly exposed). Initially the voltage was about 3 volts and steadily increased... Test it if you can. If it is not charging, I bet that it is a phone connector problem. You should return it and I think they can repair it easily...
Hi Tommy1994
First I'm not an expert, this is my first android phone.
My probelm was (I think) an android error. I made factory reset 4 times but it always restored my details. (It's not a perfect FR). After it I did a bit different FR:
-1. in the normal android/ settings menu/Privacy/Back up my data -thick off. So it won't make any backup
-2. swich off the phone
-3. take the battery out for 30sec then put back
-4. press the volume down and hold it while you press the power on button but hold the volume down for more 4 sec. you will see an android robot with an exclamation mark.
-5. press the volume up and down together that's how you enter to the Recovery menu.
-6. first chose the "Wipe cache partition" (you can move with the volume buttons and select with the power button) -wait till "Cache wipe complete"
-7. then chose the "Wipe data/factory reset" - wait till "Data wipe complete"
-8. after these chose the "Reboot system now"
-9. if your phone doesn't want to start just get the battery out for 30sec and take back.
note: you will lose everything of your personal details, installed apps...
note2: it's my FROYO's (android 2.2.2) menu probably yours is different
Sorry for my English, hope you understand though.
hope this helps
If your are trying to connect on windows vista or 7 I think you must be loged on as admin of the computer. I had same problem but when I used windows XP it worked fine this is for rsd lite
going to try ,i really hope it will help
thx
i have flashed cm7 and still not able to connect it to PC
i am quite sure it is not software problem, maybe it is about the USB cable?
is that possible the USB cable can charge but not able to transfer data?
hi tommy1994 ,
i'm having the same problem as you, when i'm in the bootloader screen the rds lite program don't find my defy...
have you found any solution?
Thank you very much

Phone charging when usb unplugged (4.4.2)

Flashed the KitKat like everyone did and now my computer does not detect my phone... And phone shows that it's being charged even after i plug out my usb cable... :'(
I have reflashed the firmware multiple times...
(EDIT)
I did flashed the 4.4 bootloader ... My phone did not boot without flashing the boot loader... I'm now certain that something is wrong with my firmware... Because odin detects my phone pretty well...
- I have few problems now my phone does not detect when i plug it in the usb wall plug , means doesn't show that it is charging
- Or it shows that the device is charging even when the usb is not connected...
- PC does not recognize it

[Q] Phone auto restarts when connected to pc

Hello! I have a major problem. After flashing back to stock, my phone suddenly cannot connect to the pc at all. Once I plug in the cable the phone auto restarts and is stuck in a bootloop until I remove the cable. It also doesn't charge if connected to the charger. Any ideas on how to fix this?
More info regarding this case. Phone is an lg d802 32gb model. Reverted to stock from cloudyg3 rom. Right now I cannot access download mode as the phone auto restarts once I plug it in the pc. Tried with 2 diff pcs but the same problem.
hmmm

Try changing the usb cable.
Hi, I tried 3 diff cables but it still has the problem. Also, I think the cables are not the problem as those cables do work for my other phone (both in charging and connecting to pc). This is a really weird issue. Anyone else experience this?
I have the same problem, phone restarts when connect to pc, if you connect and disconnect several times the usb cable, sometimes it works, you can try this to access your phone, turn it off, connect usb cable, and the power off, sometimes it work for me, also to charge the phone.
Anyway if someone can help us.
Thank you.

Note 4 N910C sudden USB Hardbrick, no charge, still booting fine into Android

Hello XDA, my virtual phone heros, i appreciate your good work, i am reading here for a few years as a ghost and today i signed up because i am lost with a serious problem on my Note4 N910C (English is not my native language)
THE CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
My Phone was first running on stock Lollipop 5.1.1 when i rooted it over ODIN 3.10.6 with space X kernel and CF Autoroot, SuperSU then i flashed the latest TWRP...
After that i flashed a Custom Rom: Sweet_ROM_V17.1_COJ2_N910C...
Everything was running flawlessly for about 2 weeks...I installed Titanium Backup, Xposed, Xprivacy Pro, Busybox and a lot more and made a complete TWRP Backup then, it was running like a charme...The backup is fine because when i messed up my phone through trying harder xprivacy parameters and other tweaking i needed to set it back by TWRP into the old state...
Nothing happened after that, it was running 100% for over a week of heavy usage...
THE PROBLEM:
The one morning i took it from the charger with 100% Battery and went to work...
Before the error occured I did some searching on the internet, used chats. movies, nothing special this day, USB Debugging was On, i remembered something messed up my chrome browser like this ad hijackers, i set it back by erasing data, cache of chrome in the app menu, then there was nothing else strange i remembered, my AF Firewall was closed, only Whatsapp and Browser were allowed to going through...
The same day in the afternoon i tried to use my car charger to recharge my Note 4 as usual, but this time it wasnt recognizing the charger and my first thought was that the charger is faulty or the cable, so i turned off the phone by the androids power menu...I retried loading my battery In the phones off state but when i plug in the charger, the battery symbol came up for short and then it remained dead, it s the same scenario until today, so i used my powerbank to try charging, because the powerbank has an indicator to show the loading state and everytime i plugged it in, it came up for short, battery symbol shows up for a few seconds, but no percentage or animation is showing as usual and no red LED, then its switching off, the powerbank LED indicator stops the loading state after a few seconds, so the loading current stops...
At home i tried the stock charger and it remained the same, since that, i have to charge the battery outside the phone...
The strange thing is:
The Rom is still booting fine, TWRP is booting, but its not going into download mode from Androids Power Menu like before, its always just rebooting back into android if i choose download mode and i have to take the battery out and back in and hit the download mode pattern Vol- Home Power, to enter Download Mode and even the booting into Download mode from TWRP gives the same strange results:
On my Laptop i started the device manager to see the USB hardware string parameters after a windows popup was telling me something like "Device not recognized"
The USB Driver ID dont fit the old right driver ID, it seems to be empty and the port is not communicating anymore
since the charging bug occured,( Everything worked fine the day before.)
I tried my Laptop to narrow down the bug with the same driver i used for flashing phones (S6,910F,910C) over ODIN and my Lappy has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports.
I always used the same USB 2.0 port for ODIN and other MTP stuff, but since the bug showed up the 910C is not recognized at the USB 2.0 Port anymore, seems to be dead in the devices manager table, only the USB 3.0 Port shows it as unknown device with a strange empty ID --> I tried the other devices like the N910F and G920F that are still recognized by ODIN on the same USB2.0 and 3.0 Ports both with the same USB hardware strings, its just the N910C that isnt recognized anymore, in no mode, no ADB, MTP, no download mode, everywhere the same, USB is bricked! Windows finds no driver and says its no info avaiable on this device so I tried to force the right driver to run with the wrong buggy driver ID but its not communicating, ODIN indicator and log remains unchanged...So it seems to be the same situation like other people getting from killing the bootloader by bad flashing, the only difference is that my phone is still booting fine into recovery and even Android but with no charging. My USB Port is totally useless now, its like if Samsung or Google OTA update has overwritten my bootloader or something hidden in the rom that woke up to kill my mods i dont know and now.
PS: Things i tried so far with no results on fixing my issue....
1. Complete fresh reinstall of Sweetrom, 2. Flashing another kernel...
3. Roll back to my TWRP Backup of perfect running ROM but with no USB support anymore:
The Phone remains in unknown state, not affecting ODIN to switch into flash mode
I am sure its the bootloader, since its battery bug is still occuring while the phone is in off state...
Unable to tell the charger the right ID without USB communication...
i was wondering if there is a solution to make a bootloader hotflash from out of Android or something like getting me back on stock first with download mode, forcing the USB ID or communication with a tool out of android, SD card boot image like on note 3 whatever, please tell me! I cant find something related to my USB and Charging ISSUE
PLEASE HELP ME, I am lost
Still the same. It's booting fine, USB2.0 no reaction on the laptop in Fastboot/Adb/Mtp ... On USB 3.0 Device remains unknown with strange Device ID String in windows 10 hardware Manager... Forced the old formerly working driver, but Odin can't find it anymore... Adb, Mtp, fastboot don't work, no communication... USB Cid is hard bricked, Charging never works in no state, just showing up for a few seconds in off state while plugging it in for short.... Bootloader must be damaged, fastboot and twrp can be started with dead USB... So is there a way to run a boot image to fix my bootloader from SD card, Aroma, or like OTA Updates are flashing? If Samsung and Google apply bootloader updates over OTA and simply restart, why we can't do that??? I need a new bootloader, is there any way without USB?
Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist.
I have moved your question to your device's Q&A forum. You'll receive expert advice here. Good luck!
Fixed!
The problem is the USB Connector Port itself, figured it out after bending the inner contacts up with a flat screwdriver and cleaned them. Before that i always tried the same gently with no change, but please do it at your own risk only. After searching for many hours about possible reasons for the problem, I came to the conclusion to even compromise the Port and heavy bending it up, now it's charging! I will exchange the port soon and change the frame too to have it back like as new... OK, if anyone in the future have problems with the bootloader or USB hardbrick n910c, feel free to ask me, I upgraded my knowledge on many causes now
Thank you very much
My 2cents stick to one charger. Do not share that charger with others.
The worst culprit are the cheap china car chargers.
I went thru two USB ports on my first phone to figure this out.
Ever since I have adopted the policy of using only one cable. Never had this issue.

Google Nexus 4 Does not show up as USB device but charging OK.

Got myself a google LG Nexus 4.
Connecting via USB - 2 different cables, 2 computers, 3 different operating systems (archlinux, debian, windows vista ) - i get nothing (*).
the phone does not acknowledge that it is connected to a computer, but it charges ok.
the computers do not recognize the phone in any way, not even in dmesg (or device manager in windows).
i have tried changing options inside the phone (debugging on/off, mtp/ptp...), even a full factory reset, and going into recovery and wiping cache/dalvik cache. - nothing.
wiggling the cable and such does not help.
i even replaced the usb connector, no change whatsoever.
so something tells me that it is not a hardware problem.
the phone has been upgraded to android 5.0 (before i became the owner).
my endless searches show that nobody knows what's going on, it might be hardware fatigue, it might be related to the upgrade to 5.x, it might be a firmware problem...
any helpful pointers, including downgrading & softbricking the system would be helpful (i just want to install ubuntu phone onto it).
(*) my other android phone connects ok with both cables, to all machines and operating systems.
With the phone in fastboot or recovery mode, is it recognized?
The fact that the usb port has been changed could indicate a problem with the motherboard connector.
Go into device manager with your phone connected and uninstall the drivers. Then install "universal adb driver"(google it it's from Koush) with your phone NOT connected.

i tried adb, the device list is empty.
booting into recovery, replugging the usb cable, i still get nothing. it's like there's nothing to communicate to, both from the computer's and the phone's point of view.
i will have to play with fastboot (i gather it works only while the phone is booted into recovery?), but i doubt it'll change anything.

do you mean the connector from the usb port, that flat cable snap-on thingy (far right on this image)?
is it realistic to try to fix that?
PS:
meanwhile the battery drained completely and i had a "Red light of death" which i managed to fix like this. i think it will take a while to recharge properly.
Adb commands will work with the phone booted into the rom. Use fastboot commands with the phone in fastboot mode.
Yes, the flat part at the it her end of the USB cable is what connects to the motherboard and is not worth fixing if that is causing the charging problem.
With a red LED, just connect it to a 2.0 amp charger using the original charging cable and let it charge for a few hours.
thanks again.
next thing i realized that the volume rocker isn't working (anymore?).
so i can't boot into recovery.
i don't know how, but once i managed to get into recovery, but couldn't make any choices in there.
anyhow, that sort of cinches it: i'm done with this phone. project failed.
(nevermind, it was a cheap ebay shot)
ubuntu phone will have to wait.
