ARCore officially released for Nexus 5X & 6P!! - Nexus 5X General

During Google I/O 2018, Google officially released ARCore 1.2. With this version, they added compatibility with a wider (but still limited) range of devices. Most importantly, our Nexus 5X is listed as compatible ! You can check the full list of compatible devices here.
Caveat: the new version of ARCore is still being rolling out worldwide (i.e. might not show up on Google Play Store yet), but if you are impatient (like me ) you can download the latest APK from Google's GitHub repository (direct link to APK). APKMirror is listing the latest APK as well, but I haven't tested it.
Installation went smoothly, I also followed Google's instruction (link) to package the HelloAR app. And.... IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY! No lag, tracking is on point, it can detect surfaces located at different heights (i.e. separate the floor from a table), and it also has vertical planes' support!
Since I couldn't find the HelloAR APK that used the latest SDK, I compiled it myself in 5 mins. But if you are lazy, and don't want to follow the Getting Started guide, You can get the APK I got straight out of Unity from here, no changes made. However, I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITIES IN CASE YOU BRICK YOUR OWN DEVICE. Since I never posted an APK before, you might think I could infect this APK with malware, and I understand that. If you don't want to trust me, go ahead and compile the app yourself: it's free, and will take you less than 10 mins :good:
Tell me what you think guys of this awesome news :highfive:

You can now download it from store! No more crazy hacking, yay!

What does this do? And would it be worth it to put on the 5x

This would basically add advanced augmented reality support to your device. For example, you can use an app to accurately measure the distance between two point using your phobe, or try Ikea furniture and see how they would look like in your room. It's excitirng because we believed Google wouldn't have added support for an "old" device such us Nexus 5X

Sounds good I'll add it

Thanks, it's awesome!!!
But how to have something different than the Android robot, must we create the samples with sdk or is there already some available models. Because on the show dated 8 months ago, there were playing with lot of objects.

You can create you own apps using the SDK, or you can try other apps such us ARuler, Ikea Place or Just a Line (these are the apps I tested, and work with this version of ARcore on Nexus 5X running Android Oreo 8.1).

Does this mean AR stickers will work too?

I think they still need to be updated, since they are still upside down.. You can try and maybe get different results!

[Q] Nexus Q apk?

for w/e reason it's not letting me find the app in Google Play. perhaps my ROM (AOPK)
does anyone know a way to get the apk? I just got my Nexus q
update:
I installed Jelly Bean and was able to download it
If the apk isn't locked to your device (with the encryption they announced at I/O) - can you post it? I'd love to have a peek inside!
Questions go in the Q&A section - not the Dev section
The google play description of the nexus q app claims that will work on anything with gingerbread and above, the app right now appears to only work and be listed for jelly bean devices
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I installed a JellyBean Rom on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus for it to work.
here is the apk from a Titanium Backup it probably wont work lol but you never know

Thanks for posting the apk. I was unable to get it from the Play store as it's unavailable in Canada at the moment (seems silly, but whatever). I installed the app from your link and it works great! I'm listening to music on my Q as I type this.
glad to hear it actually works. I had my friend try it out on his G2x with no luck so I wasn't sure

What is yours android version?
Crud, I just bought a Q on E-Bay thinking I would get it quicker (it was also about $100 cheaper) than waiting for Google to ship me one but the APK won't install on my Bionic running the leaked ICS build. The Q application in the Play Store also says it's not compatible with either of my devices (the other being a Xoom running ICS) even though the description says it's compatible with Gingerbread and above. I assume that when the Q actually starts shipping they will fix this issue with the market application but my brilliant plan to get a Q sooner will be for naught!
I know its ridiculous but part of me is tempted to go buy a Nexus 7 or Galaxy Nexus off of Ebay so I'll have something to control this with when it gets here!

I would just wait or else buy a Galaxy Nexus. My kids have Galaxy Nexus phones so I just rooted theirs and installed JB to work with my Nexus Q. The original shipments of the Nexus Q were supposed to ship 2-3 weeks from Google I/O so the app should be available anytime.
I think it is dumb for Google to not have it available now. If I was a developer who got it free I would want to be able to try it out with my friends. After all it is supposed to be a social media device. It restricts the social aspect if it is only available on JB devices.

I wonder if they have it restricted to JB to try to prevent developers from selling theirs, if so I don't think it's working very well based on the number of them on eBay - LOL.
I'm going to be really bummed later this week when I get my Q and have nothing to control it with though.
I wonder if the problem is just the API level it's looking for or if there is something actually missing in ICS that prevents it from running properly with the current build.
Pretty sure it is somehow country specific in Play.
I was unable to install the apk to my JB Nexus 7 which I got at I/O. Being at home in Sweden. I was also unable to install it on my ICS Gnexus with a Telenor sim-card. I was however able to install it on my JB Gnexus (the one I got at I/O) which had my T-mobile sim-card.
I purchased two of these devices on ebay.
But I can't use them because I don't have JB device!
The above APK did not work on a rooted AT&T Galaxy Note with ICS.
I called and talked to google, and they said the non-JB package would be released when the product ships.
Just received the one I bought off of eBay and it sure is pretty - too bad I can't use it yet!
Any developer that can get the apk working on ICS before the official release from Google would get an automatic and significant donation from me (as well as my eternal gratitude)!
Despite my incredible lack of experience (absolutely 0) I did manage to get the apk to install on a couple ICS devices after modifying the manifest, rebuilding, resigning and re validating it (I will add my thanks to all the people's tools I used to do this later, I promise!!). I have it running on my unlocked and rooted LTE Xoom with the released ICS build and my Bionic running locked and unrooted leaked ICS. Both are a bit flakey however and both are telling me I need to update the Play Music application even though I've manually upgraded both to the 4.3.605 build. I did manage to get them to go through the network setup page and say it connected, showed services as Movies and YouTube but then both show it unavailable. I've reset the Q a couple of times and went back through the setup but so far I still can't manage it from either device. Right now my brain is cooked so I'll have to try it again tomorrow afternoon! Thanks for everyone here for their amazing contributions, I really hope the Q becomes a legend in Android history (in a very good way).
Ok, this is the APK on my rooted Verizon GNex, I'm using a ROM with JB to control my Q.
Hope it helps...
Well, I'm still stuck in the same place as yesterday but I decided to upload my modified APK in case anyone wants to try it on their ICS device.
WARNING!! I don't know what I'm doing and only managed to get this far thanks to awesome tools from others - use this file at your own risk!!!!!!!!!
If anyone can look at this thing and figure out why it won't let me connect to the Q after initial connection that would be awesome but I'm guessing that's not very likely either.
Thanks to: Kornyone his awesome work so far and telling me that changing the manifest got it working on his ICS device, Raziel123x for the Apk Multi-tool I used to sign this after modifying it and to iBotPeaches and Brut.all for the apktools. I apologize if I'm making you look bad with my unsuccessful efforts to use your excellent work.
Well, I've made a little bit of progress as I can now connect to the Q and change some rudimentary settings like HDMI, Optical, Brightness, etc. but it still tells me I need to upgrade the Play Music application, takes me to the Play Store and that of course tells me I have the latest build. Neither the Play Music or YouTube applications have the little button at the top to make it play on the Q. I also don't see anywhere to enable USB debugging as some others have been able to do, I was going to unlock it but can't access it via ADB without debugging turned on. Am I just missing that option somewhere else in the menu? It's not covered in the help topics at all.
I'm slightly pleased with myself for even getting it to install and connect but now I'm stuck again. :crying:
Any suggestions (other than buying a JB device or just waiting for the official app from el goog)?

I'm not really good at porting, but it should be easy. The 3 problems are
kernel
HW accel with GPU
Touchscreen
The first one is really easy since if you cannot run a Mer stock / customized UI, you can still take Android one.
For the second, it is the trickiest, but you can still use mesa-llvmpipe (no HW accel, but only software)
For the thirst point, it is up to the screen manufacturer. Some provides linux drivers, some do not. But for Android, it might be highly probable that a driver is provided.

We will check if it works. Maybe the support for the HW in the Nexus 4 is good ...
But for the Nexus 7, it is nearly sure that it works. Something similar (Ubuntu) were ported on it ...
Has Google still not been able to release all the source code for the Nexus 4?
Disgusting if so.

You mean Ubuntu for Tablets? If so then the Nexus 4 should also possibly be able to get a Sailfish port. They release Ubuntu for Phones on the Nexus 4 the same day the UfT port was released for the N7.
Bump.
It's been 9 months since the last post on a Nexus 4 port of SailfishOS. Has someone brought this baby to term? Anyone know if there's an ongoing effort?
There is no sources or devices released. Theres only the x86 based sdk. So what do you can be ported? The x86 sdk to arm cpu? Never. And the Sailfish ui is proprietary so sources wont be released. If you want Mer with the default ui, sources can be downloaded from the Mer-projects website

[DISCUSSION] Android M for Bacon!

So as some of you may or may not know tomorrow is Google I/O. And like last year Google will be announcing Android M. It will also most likely release an "M Preview" for the Nexus 6 and 9. Do you guys think it would be possible to port the M Preview from the Nexus 6 to OnePlus One. Also this thread is for everything related to Android M for the OnePlus One
Do you remember situation with Lollipop? I think it will be in the same way
It may be possible, though unlikely. It's just not really worth it. Too many bugs and instability. This time around I'll be looking forward to ports for the nexus 5. As I think it won't get Dev preview
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Android M Developer Preview will be available today for Nexus phones. How long until someone makes port to Bacon, or how long until we see first ROM:? :fingers-crossed:

Here they go!
Guess it would be pretty sweet to get a little blend of a ROM with the cherry pickins from the Android M preview.
I think we will get the android m port when Google releases the sources of it.
Liking the new Google photos app, seems pretty slick and great that they detached it from Google+. Seems like they've refined Lollipop a bit and added some decent features. I've seen theres an option for dark theme built in now, maybe not as big a deal to us as we have total theme/customisation control, but the Nexus 6 users are going to appreciate that with their amoled display. Interested to see the app permission/privacy thing in a bit more detail as well. They sorted the volume control (mostly) with an expandable panel although is silent mode still missing?
Android M comes with App Permissions which is slick! Doze mode sounds cool but it doesn't seem to work with Google Play Services
If anyone is interested, the new google camera, search app and play services from the M-preview are already available on apkmirror (haven't tried them, son don't shoot me if they don't work).
Is it me, or is M just a slight update to lollipop?.. Why M and not 5.2?.. Most of the "features" are apps, not the OS.. The OS only got a few changes and is still virtually Lollipop.. I'm happy for the update, but, I had higher hopes for a full "version" jump..

I've tried them - DO NOT INSTALL !
First, you have to manually uninstall existing apps (uninstall updates, disable the built-in apps, reboot device). This allows installation of the new packages.
Second, the device will NOT boot - the new GMS triggers a crash in ProcessManager which brings down the whole system - you will probably have to re-flash the entire shebang.

Google app is working fine and Google Camera crashes on Panorama. that's all I've found atm.
So just GMS must be avoided. Also, for me apps installed just fine w/o uninstalling/rebooting
You guys should explain if these apks replace system apps or Google apps from play store

That's expected as you need a system lib to use the feature and installing google camera as a user app does not provide that.
It is clearly not possible to port this over. Our device uses heavy caf optimizations in kernel and framework (includes CM and Oxygen). Simply using the frameworks and app core from m will always result in a not booting device. We will have to wait for the source to be published.

Does themer app support nexus6p?

Hey guys, I am an iphone user looking to buy a new android phone and the nexus 6p is my current choice. However, i would really like to know if the themer app is supported on the nexus 6p( on their website it is stated that they do not support the nexus 6 which got me worrying). Can anyone confirm with me whether the app is supported on the 6p??
I used to be a huge supporter and user of Themer but earlier this year when the developers all but abandoned the app and their forms here on the website I gave it up.
From what I've seen they have never even officially supported the Nexus 6, so waiting for it to get supported for the Nexus 6 P may take longer than you're willing to wait.
I guess they have picked development backup of the app but don't answer any questions and I have heard that they aren't adding any new themes to the theme store but that you can go by designed ones elsewhere.
I am currently using Hola Launcher. Pretty nice, simple, lightweight.
Now, if you're really interested in trying it out on your Nexus 6 P it may actually work. It worked perfectly fine on the g3 before they made it "compatible". All you have to do is find an apk download of it and side load it on your device.
Nexus 6p has layers a different for of themes strait if off the box ....root and get layers manager from app store ... Get some layers and find which one you like

Android Go on Nexus 6?

Android Go can work on a very basic setup as Google says. So, if someone can make it work on our Nexus 6... We can extend our Nexus' life for a few more years. I dont know if Android Go is 64 bit only... But if a 32 bit version is available, then can someone port it for the Shamu? Just an idea!

Yeah, I think he meant about Android Go Oreo 8.1 release for lower end devices and I think our nexus is a lower end. Oreo is running great on our device without any lag and we will also be getting 8.1 in few days. I'm more Happy and satisfied with oreo than nougat on my nexus. Anywaz lets see if we can port Android Go. Need to look into the sources.
Cheers!
Android go is designed for phones with between 0.5 and 1 GB ram. I don't think it will be a good fit for the N6.

Yeah but I guess since our device hardware is getting old and many of the app updates hogging more and more resources, I guess Android Go is what our device needs.

I don't know. I have a Nexus 6 and I cannot say I have had any problem with app updates hogging more resources. Perhaps you just need to wipe your phone and start fresh.
@runekock has the right answer here. Android Go is for devices in developing countries with limited RAM and expensive data usage. According to the article I read on the portal the example was a city where its phone owners keep their phones on airplane mode all the time unless needed. Android Go resolves both problems by breaking Google Play Services into different modules and by looking for WiFi whenever possible.
The N6, while it could run Android Go, I believe would be severely hampered in its performance. Plus, there's no need as Android 8 runs fine on it.
