Google Play Movies app won't work offline - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi all
Have a rooted S8, everything is running fine apart from one little glitch... The Google Play Movies app won't allow me to view purchased films offline. I am able to stream, no problems, I can download the item but once downloaded, said film won't play. I receive an error message saying I need to restart device... Which doesn't work BTW!
So far I have cleared app cache, uninstalled app and reinstalled, updated app, tried the download on internal and external memory, no luck. I have tried all different movies. The app works fine on my tablet. So it's device specific. I have spoken to Google who have confirmed my account is clear and phone is connecting on OK.
Has anyone else encountered this or have any suggestions... It's very frustrating.. I can only think the rooted handset is causing a glitch?
Thank you in advance, Jackie

Have you tried using a different player? Or download it and move it in your google drive and use the drive's default video player?

Hi, thanks for your reply
I believe you can't use any other player... the format of the video, which is broken up into separate segmented files for this specific reason, is only playable via their (Google) own app.. And I'm not sure how you would download it to Google Drive...
Would love to know if anyone else has experienced this issue...

streaming MP3's

I've used a few solutions that stream your MP3's to your phone. but none of them seem to have a feature im looking for. All i want to do is be able to randomly play the entire collection. I've tried subsonic, but it downloads everything to the actual phone which is annoying. mecanto can't play everything at once, even with a playlist and its missing a search function if i wanna play something specific. I used to use Orb with some play on my touch pro i forgot, that worked kinda well except it buffered like a mofo. Any other suggestions out there? I was thinking of setting up an ampache server but i'd need to learn how to setup a server first >.>
Try using Homepipe, download the app free from market then go to the website on your computer and you just add what folders you want to share. After doing that you can stream mp3s, and download videos or other files to your phone and vice versa. It takes like 5 minutes to setup

Can't get music to play ICS?

So i've downloaded the nexus q app for ICS and the newest google play music app and I don't see how i can get music to play on the nexus q.. is there something i'm missing??
is that google music manager required?
thanks in advance.
Yes - you need to download Music Manager on your computer and it will start to upload music to Google Music. Once it's uploaded, it'll show in both the web interface at http://music.google.com/ and in the Google Play Music app.

Works for me in the Netherlands. Can you login to music.google.com ? The block is only for activation, after that everything should be normal.

It says this service is not yet available in your country. Perhaps the torrc file is not editing correctly.. to change my IP to a US IP address..?
Got it working.... the tor program hasn't been working since the latest update. So I used "hide my IP" instead.

Can't find Netflix in Play Store of my new Android TV/Nexus Player

I just got a new Android TV/Nexus Player device. And was able to find other media apps either installed as soon as I set things up or via going to the Google Play Store app in the Android TV device. But I have not been able to find Netflix. And when I go to Google Play using a PC web browser, the page for the Netflix app says that Netflix is not compatible with my "No carrier Asus Nexus Player".
Anyone know why? I've searched here and been unable to find an answer so far. I know there's the ability to side load apps. But being new to Nexus Player, I'd just like to get Netflix quickly installed via Play Store if possible.
Any help is appreciated.
Worked with Netflix support. Did a hard reset and entered my Google credentials manually. And Netflix is there now.
Just setup my Nexus Player... same issue. Netflix is MIA on the device and Google Play Store says Nexus Player isn't compatible.
Can you provide a bit more detail on the fix Netflix gave you? Hard reset what? The NP? Manually entered Google credentials? Where? TIA.

Reset to factory settings
After you reset to Factory settings, the first thing on screen will be a prompt for Language/Region. Be sure you pick the correct one for where you are, since Netflix won't work with some selections. I don't know which don't work. Mine is "English US". After that, you'll be asked to setup your Google account. Which you can do via web browser or entering your Google ID/password manually on the Nexus Player. I entered my manually on the Nexus Player.
I've attempted resets and manually entering passwords, disabling location, enabling location and still no luck.
This is a brand new out of the box Nexus Player yet I cannot access Netflix due to it thinking I'm "out of region" or something.
Just got mine today and same problem. What I did was go to settings>apps (under the device menu). Under system apps, find Google play store and click it. Click force stop and OK it. Clear cache, then clear data. Click open and Netflix should be there.
Same problem.
try update your Nexus player to lolipop 5.1.1 in Setting > apps > About
go on the google play website and find Netflix compatible with android tv
Same problem; updated to 5.1.1, factory reset, updated all apps, still no Netflix available on Google Play.
So I downloaded the APK found at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/netflix-apk-t3121671
and installed it. Worked perfectly.
It seems there are newer versions of the apk (http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/) but I haven't tried it.
I don't have a micro USB adapter to use an external storage, so I placed the apk on a windows share in the network and pulled it with ES File Explorer on the Nexus Player.
You need to allow the installation of non-Play Store apps in Settings, Security.

Netflix will not show/install if it detects root
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Just grab the APK file somewhere legit. That's what I did when it didn't appear in the Play Store. Maybe you can even request it from them. I dunno.

Google Play music not updating..

So now with songza gone. I tried to using google play music on my Nexus player but it seems to be stuck on an old version. 5.9.1854R when the current version is 6.3.2317v. And I need that version to get the Songza playlist items that have now been incorporated into google play music.. but my nexus player will not update.. it tells me my old version is current. Any one else having this issue?
I have noticed the same thing. The only thing I was able to do to get the streaming playlists on the NP right now was to cast from Google Play Music on an Android device. Google should have planned this better.
Hmmm yea just realized this as well.
Ya I also just did a force install of the latest google play music APK and it just crashes when you open the program. Wonder when they will fix this...
Was coming on to post the same results.. Wonder if play services needs to be updated as well?
I just subscribed for a month and it showed up, so it seems to be just a paid service

songza features are free I can use them on my phone and tablet and even goto the website and use it like songza worked... for free.. Its just not working on the nexus player or Android TV interface.
I'm having the same problem. Works fine on all my other devices. I'm in Canada, in case this may be a regional thing.
My subscription expired. and access to the streaming gone as well
Hello guys
Try to clear cache and app data, worked for me. Using stock Android 7.0 and latest GPM version.

Play Music Cache

Can anyone correctly explain how Play Music cache works? I am having a hard time understanding how after streaming a song and listening to it completely on both wifi and data it does not show as being downloaded when choosing download only.
Not sure if this is what you mean but you have to actually select to download it OR add it to an auto download playlist, otherwise it does not officially download. It may be in local cache but not downloaded as far as the app is concerned.

"PlayMusic" is lame IMO. Amazon music actually let's you access downloaded files on your storage. Not in a unreachable system folder. Also when I uploaded my library to the google servers. They changed my songs to the edited versions. I was really p'd. It's been about 3 years now since, so things may be different, but Amazon has always worked the way I want it to.
I have Amazon Prime but will never use their music service. Even purchasing music from them digitally downloads at a crappy bit rate. Don't even want to imagine streaming from them.
