Android Oreo Update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

1. I unlocked my AT&T Galaxy S8 and switched my carrier from AT&T to MetroPCS. As soon As I did that MetroPCS is wanting me to install the Android Oero Update. Is there any way to hide the notification and keep it from prompting me from upgrading?
I am on the Snapdragon version of the S8 so Rooting is not possible.
2. If I do decide to update, Will this change the bootscreen from the AT&T logo to MetroPCS logo?
3. If I decide to update and I don't like Oreo, Can I go back to Nougat?

I believe there is a service you can stop that will keep the update notification from popping up but I don't know what it is. You should be able to Google around and find it.
I did this exact thing (original AT&T phone unlocked and put a MetroPCS SIM card in). Yes it changes the AT&T logo to MetroPCS switch is unfortunate when considering reselling your phone I think.
I doubt you will be able to go back to nougat once you upgrade to Oreo. Maybe if you root the phone which I stopped doing to my phones.

With newer firmwares it installs carrier files and bootscreens based on your installed sim. Install another sim you'll have a new bootscreen.
You can always just Odin on Unlocked firmware and not worry about any of it.

[Q] which update should I use? AT&T S5 with a T-Mobile SIM card.

I have an unlocked AT&T_ S5 with a T-Mobile SIM card. I want to update to lollipop and my phone won't update automatically through my settings so I suppose I gotta d/l and update but which update do i d/l? AT&T or T-Mobile?
The at&t s5 (SM-G900A) variant has locked bootloaders, meaning you can't flash any other ROM's besides the stock att rom, unlike the rest of the T-Mobile or other s5 variant communities do. At&t hasn't released the lollipop update yet, and they released an OTA update, still KitKat, recently. So head on over to the att section of the forum and you will see there is a safe strap method available, but I haven't personally tried it.

AT&T Branded Note 4 (Unlocked) on T-Mobile -- firmware flash?

I recently activated my SM-N910A on my new T-Mobile account. The phone was out of contract, so I asked AT&T to unlock it, and they did. The phone is working properly with my T-Mobile SIM card, albeit on the AT&T firmware.
Is it possible to replace the AT&T firmware with a stock Samsung Firmware, or, at the very least, with the T-Mobile branded firmware (for SM-N910T)? I understand that the bootloader is locked on these AT&T devices. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and load a different firmware onto the device?
AT&T firmware has SO much bloatware, and I've not had any luck finding a way to root the phone on this firmware, so I'm stuck with all that bloat. What are my options here? Thanks!
EDIT: The phone was updated OTA to Marshmallow (6.0.1) when it was on the AT&T network. Build number is MMB29M.N910AUCS2EPH7

Upgrade old firmware on VZW unlocked phone to ATT

Hi,
I'm a little confused here. I want to upgrade my firmware on an unlocked S8 I bought SM-G950U and it's currently running G950USQS2BQL1 which is VZW FW but I have att as a provider.
To update my firmware do I flash VZW FW or can I flash ATT FW? If I'm able to flash ATT will updates be pushed OTC from now on? Also is there a way to upgrade without wiping the data? Lastly, can I update straight to Oreo (one again without losing data?) The OTA function never provides any updates.
Thanks.

Flash the US XAA firmware and you will get rid of all the carrier bloat and get updates straight from Samsung servers.
If the S8 is unlocked then you can just pop in the Verizon sim and it'll ask to reboot and then you'll have the ATT FW.

What month security patch are you on? If its the November or later it should switch to an ATT S8 after it asks you to reboot. If its earlier then yea you'll be a verizon(doesn't have to be active) sim to get it to take the OTAs to being you speed, and then it'll change to an ATT S8 after asking for a reboot.
Edit: You don't have to flash a different carrier version, it'll change itself on the newer FWs to match whatever sim is in the phone.

Oreo update on unlocked ATT S8 with T-Mobile sim

I have an unlocked S8 and I have not got the Oreo update Every time I go to check, it says your software is up to date. Is it because I am using a T-Mobile SIM? If yes, do I need to use ATT sim to get the update?

Yes you need an AT&T sim. Otherwise you will not receive ota updates.
Try it now
When I unlocked my AT&T S8, and stuck in a MetroPCS Sim, MetroPCS updated the phone to Oreo. This also results in the boot logo changing to MetroPCS which I think is unfortunate. And it installed a couple of Metro PCS apps including the voicemail app. This was all interesting since this means a carrier will update an OS on a phone that was originally sold for a different carrier. Seems that could run into problems but maybe not.
Did you figure it out?

I have an AT&T unlocked S8 Active with a t-mobile sim. I tried using an old AT&T sim with no plan, but it did not work. Do I need a sim with a plan to do the stupid update?
Take it to a Samsung Experience in a Large Best Buy and get them to Update it.

Is there any way to manually update it to the latest version? Caz I am stuck on Android 7.0 as well, it won't update.

How long after putting in your metropcs sim did the phone update? I just unlocked an att s8 active today registered on my metropcs account but as of this moment it says it is up to date when it is clearly not.
Thank you

Flashing unlocked U1 Firmware on Verizon SM-G975U

Hello! I've been out of the Android scene for a few years so I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to by searches.
Can I flash the unlocked U1 firmware to a Verizon S10+ and use it on AT&T? I know I'll lose VoLTE and WiFi calling, but I don't really care about those. Mainly, I'm just trying to see if I can use a Verizon S10+ on AT&T. Ideally, I'd like to flash the AT&T firmware on the device but from what I've gathered, that firmware isn't available yet.
I had a Galaxy S8+ when it came out and I used Odin to flash between U1 and AT&T firmware so the process isn't entirely new to me.
A bit of background:
I'm looking to jump off of the dead iPhone train and hop back into Android with the S10+. I'm currently trying to sell/trade my iPhone XS Max in order to make the switch.
I have someone who is willing to trade me their Black S10+ for my iPhone as an even trade but their S10+ is from Verizon. It's unlocked but it's still running the stock Verizon firmware.
I just want to know what I have to do with this trade in order for it to work for me. I want to make sure I get a phone I can use. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for any help!
I'm not entirely sure if this will work on the S10+, I haven't tried it yet, but when I had the S8+(it was from Verizon as well), I'd take it internationally with a different sim card, it would just prompt me to reboot the phone and it would automatically apply the appropriate CSC settings. I was on stock VZW firmware as well and VoLTE worked (wifi calling didnt).
You should be fine either way though, people have successfully flashed the U1 firmware on their VZW devices for the S10+, so you shouldn't have any issues getting your AT&T sim card to work on it.
Edit: link to get the U1 firmware

I wish Samsung included the BYOD update in the S10+, that would make it so much easier. I think I'm just gonna make the trade.
I've read through that thread and that's what I think I'm going to do. I'd much rather flash the AT&T version, but seeing as how it's not available, the U1 will do fine until it's released. I'll just need to switch to a different voicemail service in the meantime. lol
I got a Verizon S10+ and it is running build PPR1.180610.011.G975USQS2ASGB, I have confirmed that putting an AT&T SIM gives me network ability to call and what not. I want to flash the stock U1 branded firmware, is it okay if I flash G975U1UEU1ASD8 with Odin?

HEY I know have the same problem... Does it work.., I have installed the firmware and all so should I go for it.., waiting for your reply
I have Verizon unlocked phone and I'm able to use internationally where there is no Verizon, but I'm not getting updates so I have downloaded latest firmware should I flash it, also now I don't need any Verizon sim after flashing right ?
Yes you can flash U1 firmware to a U device and vica versa. The U means Universal, so you can flash AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, or unlocked firmware to it. You gotta use the patched version of Odin though.

As Just changing csc without installing the system is more than enough. Even the company logo changes. Just look for the samkey program and you will see
