Flashing unlocked U1 Firmware on Verizon SM-G975U - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hello! I've been out of the Android scene for a few years so I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to by searches.
Can I flash the unlocked U1 firmware to a Verizon S10+ and use it on AT&T? I know I'll lose VoLTE and WiFi calling, but I don't really care about those. Mainly, I'm just trying to see if I can use a Verizon S10+ on AT&T. Ideally, I'd like to flash the AT&T firmware on the device but from what I've gathered, that firmware isn't available yet.
I had a Galaxy S8+ when it came out and I used Odin to flash between U1 and AT&T firmware so the process isn't entirely new to me.
A bit of background:
I'm looking to jump off of the dead iPhone train and hop back into Android with the S10+. I'm currently trying to sell/trade my iPhone XS Max in order to make the switch.
I have someone who is willing to trade me their Black S10+ for my iPhone as an even trade but their S10+ is from Verizon. It's unlocked but it's still running the stock Verizon firmware.
I just want to know what I have to do with this trade in order for it to work for me. I want to make sure I get a phone I can use. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for any help!

I'm not entirely sure if this will work on the S10+, I haven't tried it yet, but when I had the S8+(it was from Verizon as well), I'd take it internationally with a different sim card, it would just prompt me to reboot the phone and it would automatically apply the appropriate CSC settings. I was on stock VZW firmware as well and VoLTE worked (wifi calling didnt).
You should be fine either way though, people have successfully flashed the U1 firmware on their VZW devices for the S10+, so you shouldn't have any issues getting your AT&T sim card to work on it.
Edit: link to get the U1 firmware

I wish Samsung included the BYOD update in the S10+, that would make it so much easier. I think I'm just gonna make the trade.
I've read through that thread and that's what I think I'm going to do. I'd much rather flash the AT&T version, but seeing as how it's not available, the U1 will do fine until it's released. I'll just need to switch to a different voicemail service in the meantime. lol

I got a Verizon S10+ and it is running build PPR1.180610.011.G975USQS2ASGB, I have confirmed that putting an AT&T SIM gives me network ability to call and what not. I want to flash the stock U1 branded firmware, is it okay if I flash G975U1UEU1ASD8 with Odin?

HEY I know have the same problem... Does it work.., I have installed the firmware and all so should I go for it.., waiting for your reply

I have Verizon unlocked phone and I'm able to use internationally where there is no Verizon, but I'm not getting updates so I have downloaded latest firmware should I flash it, also now I don't need any Verizon sim after flashing right ?

Yes you can flash U1 firmware to a U device and vica versa. The U means Universal, so you can flash AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, or unlocked firmware to it. You gotta use the patched version of Odin though.

Installing AT&T firmware on unlocked Verizon S7 Edge SM-G935V

I've purchased an unlocked Verizon S7 Edge, model SM-G935V, but haven't received it yet. I'm an AT&T customer. The phone should work on AT&T's network since it's unlocked, but I just realized it'll probably still have Verizon-ified firmware, and might not work with certain AT&T-specific features like HD voice, video calling, or voicemail. How will the Verizon firmware behave when it's on the AT&T network? Can I install the latest AT&T firmware on this phone instead, using a similar method to what people are doing for the 935U firmware? I prefer a stock AT&T firmware rather than a beta or rooting. Thanks in advance!
There's another thread in this forum "Stock Firmware for SM-935A (AT&T)". Should I just flash that to my unlocked SM-935V, and essentially turn it into a 935A? I believe the hardware of all S7 Edge models is identical, so I'm hoping that will work.
I did this and applied the 7.0 update - and now I can't seem to revert to any other software. If I were you, I'd flash the U update and forget about carrier-specific garbage.

Thanks. Did you have any problems getting LTE data to work with your 935V once it was on the AT&T network? I saw a few mentions from people saying they could only get slower data connections, until they called AT&T to "provision LTE for their SIM" or something. I get the impression it's not enough just to have an AT&T SIM card - like the AT&T network has a registry of phone IDs, and non-AT&T branded phones won't be in it, and so won't get LTE data.
From browsing the 935U thread, it sounds like that firmware is receiving updates much more slowly than the carrier-specific firmwares. The U firmware also wouldn't provide the missing AT&T-specific features I was looking for, like HD voice or WiFi calling, so I'm not convinced it would really be an improvement over just keeping the Verizon fw. But maybe I'll feel differently once I actually get my hands on the phone and play with it - all I'm doing now is reading forum threads and checking my mailbox.
Honestly couldn't tell you. I'm on Verizon with my main device (S7e on U FW). I only flashed the AT&T FW (PK1) so I could flash the unreleased Nougat files.
Now, I can't seem to flash anything but an AT&T rom.
Also FWIW, the U firmware is getting updates slower than carrier roms, but it's still the better rom - untouched by the carrier's bumbling idiot of a dev team, no pre-loaded carrier junk you can't get rid of (only disable), better battery life and better performance.
More FWIW, I don't care about HD Voice or Wifi calling - both those are irrelevant to me.
At&t release today on 2/17/17 official update to Nougat 7.0 build BQA6 with February security.
Clicking from Edge of Galaxy.
I want to do the opposite - flash G935V onto G935A, with the intention of eventually being able to flash back G935A. Not sure if I could do this, though.

I've got my phone working now. The short answer is yes, as far as I've found, you can flash any carrier's firmware to your S7 Edge. There may be some limitations if the bootloader version on your phone is different from the new firmware's bootloader version, but fortunately I didn't run into that. I went from the Verizon firmware to the AT&T firmware and then to the unbranded 935U firmware.
But for best results, a branded S7 Edge should be used with the same branded firmware, and on the same network. Otherwise you may run into some problems, or certain carrier-specific features won't work. In my case, my Verizon-branded S7 Edge is unable to get Wifi calling and HD Voice (aka VoLTE) on the AT&T network with an AT&T SIM card, no matter what firmware version I use.

Really? That's strange. I successfully flashed V firmware on my A and HD voice & WiFi Capping are active

So you did the opposite direction of what I did? I've read that AT&T is more restrictive about these features than some other carriers, which is maybe why it didn't work for me. I can't find it now, but there was an AT&T community forums thread in which a rep straight-out said that those features won't work on a non-AT&T-branded phone or other unlocked "bring your own device" phone.
To be fair, I'm not certain HD Voice isn't working, since there doesn't seem be a definitive way to test for it. With the AT&T firmware, attempting to turn on wifi calling would give me an error saying it couldn't be activated on my device. With the unbranded 935U firmware and an AT&T SIM card installed, I don't even see an option for turning on wifi calling.

If your unlocking your Sprint phone for another carrier.

Do not use the stock Sprint software Numbers will not come formatted correctly when you receive phone calls.
For instance when you get a call it should show like this.
+1-808-123-1234
But on the Sprint software with a non Sprint Sim Card it will show like this.
+808-123-1234
So anyone who's saved in your contacts it won't show there phone number. And you also can't easily call them back from your call log.
And this also prevents blocked numbers feature from working correctly.
If you flash the unlocked firmware or you flash the carrier firmware of your choice this issues will go away.

Hmm, maybe this is why Google Voice can't send mms for me? I'm DSU'ed on G935P and using a Mint SIM (T-Mobile). When I try to send a mms from Google Voice, it says mms can't be sent to international numbers.

Nah it wouldn't reverse the unlock status, I'm 200% sure it wouldn't change anything. I personally unlock and flash the latest G955U1 and G950U1 firmware AQH3 on 6 S8+ and 1 S8. It's works great on All US carriers, you can also flash each 4 individual Carrier firmware. I have flash all of the firmware each carrier release on my SPRINT S8's with zero problems. Enjoy
Were did you get their stock firmwares? Looking for, sprints and you used a modified Odin to flash?

Did you ever get your phone unlocked ?
I have a Sprint Galaxy S8+. It has been unlocked by Sprint. I am giving it to my daughter and want to change the firmware to MetroPCS firmware for her. I have the latest T-Mobile and MetroPCS variant firmwares. Do I need a special ODIN to perform this? I'm a little confused because I keep seeing discussions about modded ODIN versions for the Galaxy S8 and S8+

Questions on flashing Verizon firmware to a factory unlocked U1 Galaxy S8

Hello everyone,
I have an unbranded, factory unlocked U1 Samsung Galaxy S8 that I am wanting to switch to Verizon Prepaid. Currently, it's running on Tracfone with the T-Mobile network. Wi-Fi Calling is a must-have for me, but I've heard that it will not work on Verizon with the factory unlocked Galaxy S8 model. It currently works on Tracfone/T-Mobile, though.
Rather than going the extreme route of getting another phone, I was hoping that it would be possible to just flash the Verizon firmware on it in order to gain Wi-Fi Calling and other carrier features from Verizon.
Below are some questions I have about this.
1. Is this likely to work, or would I just be better off to get a branded phone?
2. Is the process as simple as it sounds on the SamMobile site? Or does the process involve something more like this?
3. Will I be able to receive OTA updates after flashing carrier firmware?
4. Are there any particular issues or pitfalls that I should be aware of before attempting this? (besides possible data loss, of course)
5. Will I be able to flash it back 100% to the stock firmware later on if I want to sell it?
6. Is there any other way to get Verizon Wi-Fi Calling while staying on the unlocked firmware?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

AT&T Branded S8 moving from AT&T service to Verizon

Hi,
I have read through a bunch of threads but have not seen my exact situation but I think I know what I have to do but want to get some advice from the experts here.
I purchased an AT&T branded phone an activated on AT&T a year ago. We needed to switch to Verizon so I got the unlock code from AT&T and switched no problem. As part of the switch Samsung has a BYOD feature that changes some of the software and menus from AT&T to Verizon. It was actually pretty cool because it removed the ATT apps loaded some VZW instead. Below is a link that describes the feature if you are not familiar:
Enjoy the Freedom of BYOD
So all is mostly good except I believe the menu change to update the firmware OTA is pointing to VZW and not ATT. When I run the update check it just says no updated needed. Looking at VZW they have updated their latest OTA version on August 1st here G950USQU5CRH1 so I know it is not trying to update to that.
ATT just released their version today August 30th here G950USQS5CRH1 but that is not updating either.
I will try this again over the next couple days to see if the updater is smart enough to find the ATT version but I am guessing I am probably in no man's land and will need to update manually using SamMobile or Updato or something else.
Any thoughts are very much appreciated.
Thank you.
I have tried a number of things like all the Verizon tools, Smart Switch, etc. and nothing will trigger a download.
I am downloading the only file from SamMobile that looks like the same version on the AT&T site but is says it is Verizon hopefully that will not matter. I will try to flash it with Odin and see what happens.
As an alternate I chatted with Samsung and they gave me the address of the a Best Buy in my area that will update the firmware for me. I guess some of the BB have Samsung techs in them. Kind of a pain but at least there is a back up.
Not sure if anyone is following this but I thought I would close this out. All options have failed.
Not even Samsung at Best Buy can flash the firmware since in their tool my phone shows up as VZW/VZW/ATT. So what I thought was a cool feature of the BYOD changing carriers only cripples the phone from an Update perspective, what a bad design. I would change carrier firmware as in some of the guides here but the problem is that I do not have G950U1 or G950U2. I have G950US which the older guides do not address.
I am either going to buy a prepaid ATT card but I hate to give those horrible people another dime or I will sell this phone and maybe just get Samsung branded like others in my family and they get updates from Samsung or go get an iPhone. I dislike iPhones a lot but at least Apple does not let the carriers screw around with their firmware.
Solved! Not sure why this site never showed up in my previous searches here or on the web.
https://samsung.firmware.science
Found the latest 2 OTA updates and applied them perfectly.
Well I can't say I've ran into this problem, but I to use ATT and am looking to eventually move to VZW, so I really appreciate your time and effort in making this thread as this isnt something I would have thought of myself. Also, that website is kick a**! thanks for sharing that
I was an ATT customer for 14 years on my wireless. The migration on the family 2 iPhones, 1 Samsung unlocked S8+ and my ATT S8 went perfect. I am the only one that had the firmware update problem because the other devices get updates directly from Apple of course and Samsung for the S8+.
My experience so far with VZW is excellent! For our family plan it was a little cheaper but our main reason fro moving was the network quality. Verizon in my area is so far ahead of ATT it is really shocking. Great call quality and data and coverage is fantastic. We had so many problems with ATT not sure why I stayed so long. They gave me a piece of junk Microcell to try and fix the issues at my house but even when we go to the ATT store that is 1 mile away, they do not even get wireless service in the store. They all have to use WiFi calling.
I have to really be impressed to recommend a company but VZW technology is well worth it for me. We will see how the rest to the customer services is.
What happened with the firmware you flashed with Odin? You can go to Updato.com and Download G950U or U1 firmware which is MUCH faster than the hours Sammobile takes. With newer firmware you can flash any carriers firmware (Go to Updato and download VZW firmware for example) because your phone installs the necessary files depending on the sim card you're running. Been that way for quite a while now.
Be careful with Firmware science as some of those builds aren't what is released so when a newer update does drop from VZW you wont get it again because you have a conflicting build number. Then you'll be back here asking why. Also, every time there's an updated firmware on FW Science you'll have to reinstall everything as flashing that update.zip wipes the phone post install. It gets really old.

Hi thanks for your input, I have 1 question to you, as I understand from your post you are talking about if mobile is already on VRZ firmware but have issue with OTA update? am I right? if not could you be so kind to tell me I'm on AT&T firmware G892AUCS3BRG1 (AT&T OREO Firmware) can I somehow switch to VRW or some other carrier? in addition, I have no Verizon sim and no AT&T sim as well I'm in Georgia and in our area, there are no such operators.
from my perspective it is good to have TMB firmware this would be the best option for me if it is possible
thank you in advance for your cooperation

Obtaining ATT Specific Functions On An Unlocked Phone

Hey Everybody,
So I've come to realize that my unlocked US S10+ on AT&T didn't have VOLTE or Wifi calling as options in the communication/call settings menus. this is pretty disappointing as it seems that using the unlocked phone with Verizon you get these features, and they make a decent impact on my use of the phone.
My understanding is if I flash the ATT firmware to the phone I would get the functions, so being an amateur I followed some simple guides to SamFirm AND ODIN, and downloaded the ATT CSC firmware for my model number. However after going through the Odin process and resetting my phone it is still showing the same Software information as prior to my installation, and I do not have the features.
I saw a thread on the board stating that the ATT firmware isn't available yet, so I'm not sure if what I downloaded was actually any different than what is on my phone, and my phones "Service Provider Software Version" did already have ATT in the description, which is a bit confusing to me.
Am I correct in understanding the only way to get the features would be through a firmware flash? And would anyone know if I had flashed the right firmware, and what the original firmware CSC would be for my model if I needed to revert?
My information is:

If it's anything like the S9 was, you can't just ODIN the firmware/CSC. You'll just get the bloat with none of the features you want.

I've heard this as well. If you want those features on a Samsung phone, it has to be at&t branded. I ordered an at&t phone from Samsung since I make good use of wifi calling. It works fine on my unlocked P3XL but no dice on the Samsungs.
I have the same phone and service and when I went to update my imei they told me it could not find the phone. So I was without lte/4g for a day until I gave them a imei to a s8 active. Now I have data at least

So I have the same service provider software, on my unlocked s10+, however when I went into an ATT store and looked at a branded S10+
I noticed the service provider software version to be : SOAMC_SM-G975U1_OYM_ATT_PP_0033( thirty three at end),
so anyway to update the service provider version? does that come from the SIM ??
I have an unlocked S10 plus and I flashed the AT&T Firmware. I now have VoLTE and WiFi calling unlocked on my phone using AT&T. You need to make sure you flash the U version of the firmware, not the U1 one. Unlocked S10 is using the U1 firmware already so flashing that one again changes nothing.

I kinda doubt it but did any of you with unlocked phones that flashed the AT&T firmware get any better service? I've been considering it to get VOLTE but just wondered

I followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/how-to/att-ota-ota-updates-t3909697
At first like you I downloaded the wrong version and nothing changed. I finally flashed G975USQU1ASBA and now have VOLTE/WIFI Calling and of course all of the bloat. But at least those two functions are working. Make sure that you complete a clean flash when I did a dirty flash I had problems sticking on the loading screen.
I believe you just need to call in ATT to take care those carrier specific features .
Which firmware can I flash with Odin to my S10+ Xfinity Mobile unlocked to get AT&T OTA updates? Currently have ASF7 flashed from the latest unknown firmware uploaded to Sammobile. I flashed w/o USERDATA. I just want to be able to get future OTA updates as I just switched my carrier from Metro by T-Mobile to AT&T. I was using U1 US unlocked firmwares on my Note9 & S10+ but want to use carrier perks now with AT&T.
What's with AT&T being the only ones to not release update files? You would think they all would be required to release them. More AT&T customers need kick up a fuss about it.
