Any rom/kernel with KCAL support? - Honor 8 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi there
I just bought a brand new p8 lite 2017 (aka honor 8 lite world wide) and noticed screen colors suck. It's very bad calibrated and lacks of saturation, but on other cheap smartphone I was able to partially fix this issue with the kcal tool which is actually a pretty powerful tool. Is there any rom or kernel out there for our device that supports it?

P9 lite or S5

I had p9 lite for half a year and I like it,but my brother got s5,and he offered to trade it with me.What do you guys think? Is it a good trade.I like s5"s camera and remote control ability, aswell as some other features, but i really need advice.
Quad core in 2017? 32bit processor? Low battery. Just don't be naive.
S5 is very bad made. The specs are great but the battery+ bad software and hardware optimization made the phone bad.
P9 lite is much more better than S5 in term of camera and performance.
I Have personally used both and right now i am using p9 lite
S5's back camera is way better with incredible dynamic range
P9 lite has better front camera
S5's Snapdragon 801 Performance wise is better. I Have compared them both side by side and S5 opens almost every app faster than p9 lite.
P9 lite will get nougat S5 will not
S5's Display is Atleast 100 times better. Amoled screen absolutely destroys the lcd.
Don't be silly. Keep Your P9 lite

Can the p10 lite do virtual reality?(Does the p10 lite have a gyroscope sensor?)

can it do vr?
Yes it can. I have it but keep in mind that the VR experience is not that great. Fps tend to drop and it does not seem fluent at times. Also, the screen has a laggy feel because it uses a ips lcd. The xiaomi redmi note 4x was way better at vr but the miui os is absolutely buggy and I had to change it for this p10 lite.

ok thanks...Im getting one tomorrow and i just wanted to know...???
No problem.
I don't think its a good idea for you to use this phone for VR. The Display is 1080p - that means that if you go into VR mode there will be 2 pictures displayed in half the quality (each eye will see the picture on its half the display so 2x 540p)

Both devices come with 2 cameras and a single battery in the box.
Camera wise they are both really good cameras but I'd go LG because the software is way better and you get the added benefit from the support of GCam mods and other Snapdragon device ports. FFC on the P10 is better than the G6 though. Display is better on the G6 with qHD+ Vs FHD on the P10. Kirin 960 is a newer processor than the SD821 however the difference in benchmark speed is not phenomenal. P10 will get project treble support and that will probably be a nice thing to have aosp/custom ROMs ported over to the device because EMUI is not everyone's cup of tea. G6 has had some issues with software updates as you've probably read in the forum's. All in all both are really good devices and depending on the price either one is not really a bad choice.

the lg 40 USD more expensive
After using the G6 for 3 months or so and coming from a Nexus 6P - I would recommend the P10. Unless you want IP68:

LG are disappointing with their update rollout for a flagship, and if you are looking at a DS module, no boot loader unlock which is also a disappointment.
I'm also now experiencing some bluetooth audio quality issues when paired with 2 other BT devices in my car - I have tested this on two other phones (the 6P and my old Sony Xperia) and neither of them have the same behaviour when paired with the same devices.
This phone is starting to disappoint me.
I don't have the P10, but I had the Honor 8 and I swore to never use a EMUI phone again. It had so much bugs and quirks. Especially with the feature to make apps sleep and even after you whitelist them and tweak settings, sometimes the notification is not assured to appear every single time. Last time I used EMUI, if you lock your phone with Android Device Manager's lost phone feature, you can completely bypass the lock screen with ease.
I do know the Kirin processor is really fast, if you are looking for outright performance, it's probably better to go with the P10, especially with 1080p screen which will run smoother.
In term of camera, I like the fact that the LG have Snapdradon so it can use Google Camera HDR+ mode.
Personally, I would take the G6 mainly for the larger display. G6 also have USB 3.1, water resistant, and wireless charging.
Go for the Huawei P10 https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_p10-8514.php
They are outstanding devices!

G6 all the way. Two things i don't like about Huawei, one is EMUI and second they don't use any type of oleophobic coating, not even on flagship devices. Glass (which is not even Gorilla glass) gets so fingerprinty it's unbearable.
Got lg g6.
I already had an Honor 8.
I prefer the speed of honor. Lg g6 is nice but not so... And i think camera is normal. Not crazy.
So i recommand you P10.
But i must recommand Oneplus 5T, and maybe if you can wait, take the next model, Oneplus 6 !
Get the LG. Huawei has support that is worse than LG.
LG is also offering a two year warranty.
I had same dilemma. Screen-cpu-battery should be on p10 side. I sad should be cause on net i saw different scenarios about battery.
I took lg g6 even it was 50 usd more expensive mainly because i had lg devices before and i couldn't stand emui.
Meanwhile i "discovered" wide angle camera and great build quality (dropped this one 10+ times). Though i got model with inferior camera i can say lg g6 i rock solid device and if u can't choose among others like one plus or shaomi go for lg.

My girlfriend has the P10 and I get G6. I compare both phones, testing many things and I prefer the G6: better software, the phone looks better and you haver a better screen. Maybe some colors in P10 looks better, but in general, you must get the G6.

P10 Plus - Oreo Update ("Dareken interface colours)

Hi Guys (and girls)
I'm considering getting a P10 Plus.
Can anyone confirm, if the P10 Plus received the feature, found on the Mate 10 Pro, called "Darken interface colours", after the Oreo update for the P10 Pro.
I've attached an image, taken from a Mate 10 Pro, to show how cool it looks.
Basically makes the whole Huawei interface black which looks great compared to the ordinary white background found on phones.
Thanks everyone
PS - I noticed I made a spelling mistake in the title. Sorry guys, I can't seem to correct it.
No due to tge p10+ and the mate 10 comes with LCD while the mate 10 pro comes with amoled

Thanks 'chubbs75':good:
1) Is this also why the P10 Plus doesn't have the Always On option, in standby mode?
2) And is Always On only on Amoled screens?

Yep. You can have always on on LCD but pixels Will be lit up black so battery usage will be great.
On amoled just the pixels which displays the time lit up so it's saving battery.
I miss. My Lumia 950XL..

J5 2016 Replacement/ upgrade advice please

It's (beyond) time for me to get a more current phone. Here's my requirements:
5.2 - 5.5"
rootable (bootloader unlockable)
full 64bit hardware (not just the CPU) + 64bit (ARM) Android
at least 32 GB internal storage, better 64 GB
3 or more GB RAM
13 or more Megapixel camera resolution
precise GPS module for Navigation
natively supporting at least Android 9 for native EdXposed capability, better Android 10
stable custom ROM with active current support available (preferred: LineageOS)
SD card slot (dual sim optional)
needn't be new, can be used
LTE is fine - no need for 5G (5G would be fine thanks to downwards capability with LTE/ 4G)
colors: white, silver, dark green, blue/ lavender (no black)
NOT a Huawei
Do above criteria ring any bell? Which phone(s) would you suggest to me?
just purchased a Nokia 6.1 (aka Nokia 6 2018) for €200

Hi, noticed you already bought your phone, but maybe next time if you need advice, then also mention your budget.
Either way, the Nokia 6.1 isnt a great phone, if you can sell it then I'd recommend going for a Poco M3 (Xiaomi) in the USD220 range, or a Realme C3 if you wanna get cheap (around USD 150). Both are available brand new, they have similar processor performance, large screens, good battery life etc. The Poco M3's camera is much better than the Realme C3's, but thats the price you have to pay to reduce the cost. Both Poco's and Realme's software sucks in my opinion, but you're going to use a custom ROM anyways, so that won't be an issue for you. Android 12 is available through custom ROMs for both phones, and they have plenty of support on XDA.
Hi @PhotonIce thanks for your recommendations. Both, the Xiaomi Poco M3 and the Realme C3, are 6,5" and exceed my 5.2" - 5.5" size range. I've used a Nokia 6.2 for half a year last year, so I'll see in the next few months how it'll smaller sibling will perform. My needs are rather low, with Navigation apps (Magic Earth, TomTom) setting the top bar for performance (no gaming or such). At this point I can leave making pixel-sharp photos of UFOs to others ..
Oops, sorry my bad, thought it said 6.2-6.5inch range
Though in that range, I'd still highly recommend the Mi Note 3 (if you can get it). It has a much better SoC, a 12mp camera with OIS and a 12mp telephoto, and a 16mp selfie camera.
indeed nice the Xiaomi Mi Note 3, and even with official and latest LineageOS support. Good to know
[EDIT] not available in Central Europe - closest region here to order from would be UK. Only close sibling available here would be the Xiaomi Mi A1 (Mi 5X).
The mi a1 isnt as impressive, I guess it's best if you keep your nokia
Also the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 doesn't have a headphone jack.

True, but you didn't mention that in your list of requirements, so you can't really blame me for that.
oh @PhotonIce don't feel blamed at all - I was just stating the missing jack as a fact. I 100% appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us here
