Microwear H5 MT6737M Android 6 - Other SmartWatches

Very scarce info everywhere, but quite a few people already use this $80 super-powerful watch including me (which is basically a micro-smartphone).
Many video reviews already.
I personally think that such powerful watch (much more powerful than my cheap 2016 tablet on previous Mediatek chip with less RAM) is a such small smartphone with illusion like it’s watch made by very modified version of Circle launcher with edited Android 6. I don’t see any limitations on this watch to run full stock Android OS here from the M6737M series smartphones, if ported. Even now all full-featured apps from Google store made for smartphones are perfectly runs here, including very big navigation apps and even the full “battery saver” function present from smartphones (first one which I see on Android watch ever). The only limitation which I noticed is very small display (specific apps cannot fit) and badly edited Android OS (like completely deleted status bar from OS, any 3rd-party status bar apps are installing fine but crashing on settings). Most 3rd-party launchers from Google store and open sources are installing here (only with few exceptions) - the most stable one I’ve found is open source “Essential Launcher” ver. 1.3.
My feeling from “lift wrist turn on” function with “swipe pages” makes almost iPhone X experience here, no any buttons needed, very stable power on only by view and swiping windows (including closing them by swiping to the right) makes very good feedback to the user.
Everything spoiled only by edited OS - awful work with fonts, too many illogical Menu lists, deleted functions like not present “Storage” in OS settings(only shortcut to file explorer) - the USB storage media not adding because of edits on OS level, considering normal micro-USB & even if you turn on “usb media” in developer settings.
Very few watch-faces with no way to install any others, it’s obviously fake feature to make you feel and use them as watch.
So, what I think many would be glad to see here - the root is the most important goal for now(developer menu allows bootloader unlock-not sure if it’s true because USB media settings there not works), maybe putting the normal Android is the next goal.
The root is very needed to firewall for very shady apps here, it’s very powerful device so it have full smartphone spyware, like notorious MTK Logger & Thermal Manager, which can work at sleep mode (it is almost suspicious that they broke USB media function so user can’t bypass network connection for installs). Root needed to work with display resolution and etc.
Edit: the processor by Aida app recognized as MT6737M but on Aliexpress you can find watch easily by search term processor "MTK6737M" (only like 7 sellers total).

I have the H5 as well, and you're correct! The main draw back is the stripped down OS, for example the call forwarding features are missing..

Ordered one of these a few weeks ago, should be getting delivery soon. Interesting to see how it performs, my last android watches have been mt6572 & mt6580, both of these I ported full Android versions to, I may give it a go at porting a full Android version to this in the future

Well I got mine today, seems good so far. As for alternative launchers tried a few that work OK, if you want to change the clockskins for now I have found that Universal Launcher New Gen works just fine (you add clockskin folder +clockskins)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ricktop.ClockSkinCoco

I use mine at least 2 weeks maybe. Without root (which I plan to do but don't have time right now) I do not connect them to any Internet, so I'm using them as just watch (it's my first smartwatch). Files I'm sending through bluetooth from my Android phone, quite neat that you can install apps from bluetooth menu right away.
About battery - very good, if you don't connect them to networks at all, with battery Saver on & "wrist move activation" off they can work whole week on 1 charge (this includes some extensive using in 2 days on winter street with GPS apps, camera-video, constant time checking and etc.). They CAN HOLD MORE days, after the full charge, watch calculated the battery to the 15 days of work - which is believable, as I see now if you will check only time manually they can easily save 1 charge to 12-13 days. I use charger with them only once at week, it's quite shocking to read Apple Watch forums where people making that every 2-3 days.
They're quite powerful - making the zip archive internally from 250Mb photos/videos takes something like 2 minutes.
Because the step-counter here work always (even if you take them to the other room) - this device is just made for the SmartNavi (open source navigation app which use mainly step-counter with rare or no GPS connection for battery saving).

Can't wait for a custom recovery to be made for it, so I can root it. Tried all the rooting apps out on the web and none work so far.

Well I have managed to get Root access, using Magisk, and flashing patched boot image, struggling to create a TWRP recovery. Hoping someone out there can come up with a custom recovery.

Managed to port TWRP to it, but it is in miniature! going to have a play around with it to see if I can make it usable. Anyone with suggestions be grateful - well gave up on trying to amend TWRP resolution, and installed flashify - just flashed an AOSP ROM to the H5, happy days!

Well done stevea76
A step by step or point in the right directions kinda 'guide' would be really appreciated, cos the H5 with its stock funos is far from fun... sure its usable but no fun.

I will put something together at the weekend, by then I should have something usable, don't want people breaking their new toys!

It would be interesting to find if there's any "recovery mode" on stock ROM image at all, considering that there's only 1 button. On similar watches from Samsung and etc they have quite awkward way to enter recovery - like some swipe to the left in time of logo showing and etc. I tried to repeat any swiping during boot - nothing...
Also, by the usual use of watch (almost a month now) I can say that in my case of use the battery holding 1 full charge for 7 days, so a week, the same amount calculated by OS also. That's the battery regime or mode which is now constant in my case (it can be different in situation of other people).

The battery here can be saved even more for a week - I managed to notice that "sleep stat" function are working here at all times and cannot be turned off like step counter in this Android OS, at the night time it randomly turning on the pulse checker light even if you not wearing them, which using the battery (not a big deal, but using some).

Here is the link to the AOSP ROM I ported to the H5.
I must express it is a long winded way to flash it as I am not technically minded, just playing at it, and only do this if you have the stock ROM downloaded as a backup to revert back to and don't mind the possibility of wrecking your toy!, the only reason for me doing it this way is that the recovery TWRP I ported is functional, but not set for the screen size for the H5 so unless you have bionic eyes it is nearly impossible to use, hence the reason for my 'workaround' (note: If anyone can make the TWRP scaled for the watch, just flash the ROM in the usual way)
Here is a 'sort of' guide and link to files.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=252561
1. Flash
Microwear_Magisk_Patched_Boot_IMG using splash tool, reboot device.
2. Install Magisk Manager from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445/page4
Open Magisk manager and go to settings, set default action to 'Grant'
You now have root.
3. Flash
Microwear_H5_Recovery_TWRP using spflashtool.
4. Install
Flashify (for root users) from the Playstore.
5. Download directly to the watch (or to Computer and transfer to the watch) Microwear_H5_AOSP ROM AND the GAPPS of your choice (Open Gapps arm64 nano was my choice)
6. Use Flashify to install zip(s) making sure you click TWRP as recovery option and also tick the wipe cache, data etc (add the Gapps as well if you want Google)
Click Reboot on flashify.
Hopefully the watch boots to recovery and installs the ROM and gapps!
First boot sticks on boot animation, so if not starting after 3 or 4 minutes power off the watch and reboot, after another 5 to 10 minutes you should see 'android is starting'
Nav Bar is by default on permanently, to make this and notification bar 'hide' (fully Immersive) I used this method.
1. install on pc ADB (Guide below)
2. Enable developer options and USB debugging on watch.
3. connect watch (switched on)
4. Open ADB on pc.
5. Type: adb devices (click enter)
(should see you device is connected)
6. Then type: adb shell - (click enter)
7. Then type this line:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
Now the navigation bar will pop up when you pull down or up slightly on the screen and will auto hide after a couple of seconds.
As for sensors I don't think any are working.
I have included 3 launchers on this ROM, so make your choice!
Please, please, please DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS if you don't know how to revert back to stock rom. I bear no responsibility for broken toys!

Guys, who already have a scatter file for this watch, i really want to make a backup of current ROM before checking for any new updates (which is quite good version from January and there's nowhere on Internet any firmware files for this watch, so saving and sharing ROM is important). If i manage to download ROM i will post it on Google drive.
I wanted to force watch go into it's own recovery but my ADB installation don't see this watch connected - there's a primitive subsystem on watch beside Android OS, it can be seen when you turn Android OS "power off" and connect USB for charging - it will show the battery, i'm puzzled how to enter into any settings of that subsystem.

The stock firmware is on the Microwear Website.

Yeah, i noticed only now, strangely but i remember that a month ago there was nothing about H5 model on their site when i searched…maybe because they just released it.
Also the firmware have the same scatter file - the first one which i found myself for some cheap smartphone on 6737 chip, as i remember i found it on reddit.
As i seen no updates of firmware for now.

No updates as yet. I have ported an AOSP version, pretty much stock Android to the H5, it is basic, but I like the 'stock experience' on a square watch. Not got the sensors set up, but not really bothered about how many steps I have done on any given day or my heart rate for that matter.
Also if you want fancy clockskins then Eric's launcher works just fine on it.

As i understand correctly - here they simulated or just copied clock skins from Apple watch?
Where to find Eric launcher?
For everyone else i will write again link to the firmware from Microwear site here – https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WaktAl-cjCTE1l0jffA7BnevzESdlCwc?usp=sharing
because chinese support is very short in time and can vanish with website very easily (for example to find an older firmwares to my Onyx Boox ereader i used "webarchive" service, thanks gods we have it - only from this saved archived copies of pages i found the sharing links to the older firmwares, still i cannot find the first version of RemixOS release for KitKat-if anyone have the alpha - please message me)

[Q] Restoring factory Kernel (1.1) with CWM

Hi, after installing a new kernel with multitouch and norefresh through CWM, and considering installing the overclocked one by guevor (update: installed oc kernel), but I had some newbie questions about restoring the Kernel in case I wanted to go back to stock or update to 1.2.1.
I have taken full factory backups at 1.0.1 with noogie by copying the physical disk with diskimage, and another backup with the 1.2 rooter gui. I have since updated to 1.1 (no backup on 1.1) and rooted before I installed the new kernel. Is there any way to revert to the default kernel on 1.1.0?
Also, Is there any way to adjust the contrast in fastmode? The text is barely readable and an unusual amount of gosting (maybe something is wrong), but it's super fast.
Thanks so much, and this community has been a lifesaver since last night when I got my nook. Go easy on me since I've only had my nook for a few hours, I've been reading a lot and searching these forums for hours.
Also, bonus questions:
1. Is it possible to set a custom wallpaper (behind the icons)
2. Is it possible to actually decode/play videos? no video apps seem to work, even p2p ones.. also youtube videos / flash doesn't work which is strange because android 2.1 should support video right?
3. What's the consensus about screen damage/use using fast mode? Brand new nook.... lol. I'm not sure if I'm shortening the 10 year life of the e-ink display to 1 week.

II. No. Try to change font in your reader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20069292&postcount=10
or use NoRefresh to read text.
or try different reader for eg. https://code.google.com/p/apv/downloads/list
1. if you change your launcher from 'ReLaunch' to for eg. 'LegacyLauncher' then yes.
2. RockPlayer + software decoding = playing videos
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redirectin.rockplayer.android.unified.lite&hl=en
3. Your battery will probably die faster than the screen. I used NoRefresh and FastMode from the start and the screen still works fine. On the other hand my battery died (2 weeks before the end of warranty).

Thanks for your help! I've seen you around the forums quite a bit and learned a lot from reading your past posts.
I was able to play rmvb with rockplayer (still in beta?), but couldn't figure out how to make the streaming p2p tv applications work (also rmvb) such as PPTV, and PPS which usually work on everything (although they installed properly and also tried downloading and installing codecs. I had to download the rmvb file from pptv and play it manually on rockplayer.
Thanks for the Legacy Launcher tip, looks great! Edit: Unfortunately I can't get wallpapers to work there either. When I select wallpaper, it gives me 2 options, from pictures, or from wallpapers. pictures shows "no media", and wallpapers are just a few standard wallpapers. I can't find anywhere to select a picture from the SD card, and I can't find any "media" or wallpaper folder in file browser. UPDATE: I was able to get wallpapers by downloading the app "wallpaper changer" and "ES file explorer".
Interesting to know about the battery, I was also worried about that. I managed to suck through 35% of the battery in 5 hours. I didn't buy the official wall charger, but I used a chinese 5 volt adapter I had laying around after I kept getting the following problem:
Another problem I've been having is that when I plug the NST into my computer via USB everything goes ballistic on my nook, it rapidly connects and drops USB mode, and then if I go into settings both internal storage and SD card are greyed out "unavailable". What could cause that?
Finally, is there anyway to get ADB on windows without downloading the entire android SDK? I want to apply the IMEI fix to install whatsapp, but I can't get ADB to work at all. UPDATE: I solved it, adb.exe baby and I guess you can use that with commander. My problem was the default wireless adb app wasn't working, I installed wifi adb and it worked. Very odd, since usb connection didn't work, but at least I got my IMEI and whatsapp. Any methods for getting working contacts on NST? I'm going to try the contacts.db workaround if there is no other options, but I'm hoping for something less risky and automated.
I also wanted to note that I solved the 24 hour wait time on google market, go to gmail and add a second contact and sync that contact. The first google account will automagically work.

1. I think that 'nook' launches 'hardware video decoding' by default when you try to open up a stream from the apk so the only option is to download videos and play them locally. 'TubeMate' is able to do this.
http://m.tubemate.net/
On the other hand if the apk contains a video player with 'software decoding' this could work like it should.
I know that 'BeyondPod' was able to play audio podcasts from within application. Haven't tested it on videos.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.beyondpod&hl=en
2. Don't forget to turn all useless animations in the Launcher off and get "Minimalist Black - ADW Theme'. You can find it in 'TouchNooter' package.
3. Try to use a different micro usb cable. Sounds like yours is broken.
4. In the current version of NookManager, ADB through USB is not supported.
5. Can't help you with that right now.

SOFT BRICK OR STUCK in a BOOTLOOP? REVERT TO STOCK
TWRP is required to use the following backup. Please make sure you still have it installed and are able to access it.
Download the stock OS backup Here http://www.4shared.com/zip/dxnYQfmpba/stock_zgpax.html
You need to be able to access your SD Card, if not you may need to use an external SD. Navigate to /SD Card/TWRP/Backup (or create the folder if it doesn't exist). Next you need to make a folder called Stock ZGPAX. Then your are going to place the files you downloaded here from the link above.
IF you cannot access your SD Card, try using an external MicroSD card. You will have to make the /TWRP/Backup Directory and Folder yourself... and then place the files in there manually.
Finally, you will REBOOT into TWRP and Navigate to the restore option. Look for your folder there and restore this backup.

SMS & INCOMING CALL NOTIFICATIONS
Thus far, the only app i have verified to work RELIABLY is TABLET TALK, which is currently $2.99 in the PLAY Store.
You may need to install PIE CONTROLS to have the MENU BUTTON functionality first. PIE is free in play store - Afterwards:
Install on Both, android phone and the smart watch.
On the android phone you are using, setup the device in settings >> at the bottom >> The phone should be selected as PHONE
On the smart watch, go into the same settings menu at the bottom >> The device should be selected as tablet
On both devices, you should press the bluetooth icon.... Both will turn yellow, and then GREEN, when they paid. DONE!
PERFORMANCE
Using a TOOLBOX / RooT app (such as Rom TOOLBOX or Trickstermod) recommendations below to help performance and battery.
Scheduler --> Change I/O to DEADLINE - This will increase SD Card read Speeds --> The stock is CFG, Deadline is usually faster!
Governor ---> Try ON DEMAND Governor. Can help eliminate over-heating without sacrificing performance. Stock is Hybrid
XPOSED FRAMEWORK
.A number of apps will not fit within the visible area of the device without changing the DPI. Confirmed that Xposed and App settings works with the ZGPAX and can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081. For example, in the ADW popup dialog you cannot change screen borders or change wallpaper until you change the DPI to 100.

USEFULE APPS
Some useful good apps that install and work for this device. Will update frequently with your help:
Battery Monitor Widget - This widget may help updating the battery percent and reflect more accurately at all times.
Awesome ON OFF - Similar to galaxy gear, turning the watch activates screen on, with vibrate
Shake Screen ON OFF by Freebooks - Simple shake to turn the screen on or off - no need to use home button
CPU SPY is good for monitoring deep sleep... in case you install an app that keeps the device awake.
ADW EX Launcher - 4x4 grid is perfect, runs smoothly, can stretch clock widgets and such
Active Apps - Good for clearing apps and Ram in one convenient location
DigiClock - Large 4x4 clock with built in themes
Frama Root - For quick rooting
Google Maps - Be sure to actually download and install from the playstore or it may not work
NO Lock - Removes lockscreen and you can sleep / wake watch from whichever home screen you left off at
PIE controls - So you don't have to always be hitting the hardware POWER and Back buttons... also allows many toggles
ROM TOOLBOX - All root tools, file explorer, boot animation etc etc
thanks for your works
i wainting arrive my device
Volume Change
Since mine isn't here yet, I guess someone else can test this. It's from the Joe's Tech Review website and it's for a different model, but it might work.
Z1 smart watch phone Engineering code. (Bas Advalvas)
INCREASE CALL VOLUME: found it!
Finally found it. And it's easy! Call sound value is too low on the Z1, 1 of it's main drawbacks.
■Start the phone dialer and dial: *#*#8787#*#* This will start Engineer Mode on de the Z1.
■Select Audio, then Normal Mode. Choose the 'type' Speech, change the value 6 into 0 (that's the loudest) and press Set.
■Press the Back button once. Now select LoudSpeaker Mode. Choose the 'type' Speech, change the value 24 (?) into 10 (on my Z1, the value 0 made the sound very soft, probably because of the system that prevents feedbacklooping from speaker to microphone (how you call this?)) and press Set. Press the Back Button a few times to leave Engineer Mode.
That's all! The standard call volume increases a bit (40%?), but the handsfree volume (which is otherwise about the same as the standard) inceases a lot (150%?) AND the annoying interference sound is now gone!!!

That's all! The standard call volume increases a bit (40%?), but the handsfree volume (which is otherwise about the same as the standard) inceases a lot (150%?) AND the annoying interference sound is now gone!!!

The speaker is incredibly loud... and being that you haven't actually received your zgpax, i don't think you will need any volume increase.
Would you describe some of the customization you've performed with ADW-EX in order to get such a great look? I haven't used the pay version before, so perhaps it is a silly question, but how did you get such large icons on the main page?
I'm considering buying this watch. Two questions:
1. How does it handle notifications from my phone?
2. Can I use Bluetooth to connect my phone to it since I don't want to put my SIM card in there?
zNiiC,
Check out this other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507033&page=8
To answer your questions directly, not yet. It is designed to be a stand-alone device (that being said it may happen eventually).

Yea I've seen that thread. Could you possibly tie your smartphone to this watch with some sort of app to recieve notifications on it?

Humm. Bummer. I think I read somewhere that someone used mysms. Not sure if it was in the other thread or for a different watch.
If you really want to make it happen, you can use Tasker, Zapier and Pushover to do the job. Here's a useful explanation intended for a different application. Bottom line: if you expect to transmit more than 100 notifications per month, you'll have to shell out some ridiculous money.

To BigBison420 and ItzSnitz,
Couldn't you use tasker along with either open watch or notify my android since you can install apps on this watch? (Not quite sure how these apps work). Might be worth a shot to see if it is able to send notifications.

Im using 1.3.3.8 which is an over hauled update of the app... All prior versions are clearly not as good.
I downloaded digi clock widget, which has tons of built in theme and stretches out nicely (4X4 widget).
Also disabled action bar in adw, disable dock, and grid set to 4x4 for the homescreens. That's really the foundation of my cosmetic tweaks. Also i completely disabled lockscreen as described in OP so immediately the watch awakens to the clock on the homescreen

Hi guys,
Newbie here. I too bought the ZGPAX smart watch about 3 weeks ago, OEM version. I also purchased another model EC-309 from HOPU watches, which is based on similar hardware MTK6577, Android 4.0 and with the extra that it has 3G network, different hardware layout (camera on the side not front).
Purchased the ZGPAX for around 140$ odd plus shipping, EC-309 on the other hand was priced above $230. Full disclosure, I own a retail store selling OEM Android tablets in Indochina and would like to add smart watches into my product portfolio.
I would like to get some tips on how to extend the battery life seeing as some users managed to be able to get 1 to 1 1/2 days use on a single charge . Rooted the devices, lowered the CPU range. Tried basic user stuff like, screen timeout, brightness. Switched from 3G to GSM. Still cant get more than 6-8hr battery life. Have tried DX battery Saver Pro, this really extend the batt life but at the at the expense of shutting off wifi and 3G (not acceptable solution). Any other ideas?
For those who might be interested, here's a comparison of the two devices
1) ZGPAX touchscreen runs much hotter than the EC-309
2) ZGPAX has superior speakers, music sounds clearer and louder, no distortion at higher levels
3) ZGPAX has SD card slot, EC-309 only has internal 4GB
4) EC-309 slightly better finish, aluminium bezel, ZGPAX feels a little plasticky
5) Similar firmware for both models. Same issues, Google voice, Skype, Facebook crashes or does not work.
6) Similar battery life - 6 to 8 hr max
7) Similar battery monitoring issues - battery indicator not accurate
8) Both models have good wifi and 3G reception
9) EC-309 comes with Launcher 8 as a default..Win 8 style launcher, no custom launcher like ZGPAX.
10) EC-309 uses micro SIM , ZGPAX regular SIM size
Will share more on apps that work for me soon.

Really depends on how you use the device.... i could get 3 / 4 days out of it, simply using it as a watch to check the time. Streaming wi-fi and videos and downloading stuff is a whole different story. Have you tried changing the CPU Governor? I have not lowered the stock cpu settings... mine sits at 1001mhz max and 250 min. Deep sleeps about 90% of the time

Much thanks for the quick feedback BigBison! Frankly the watch gets fully used most days, I am actively chatting on WeChat, checking time, playing around with some basic voice recognition apps (utter, voice reading). Am trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the device. Will try to lower the CPU settings to half 667mhz and see if that helps. IO on deadline and Govenor OnDemand.
BTW, Any devs out there want to help with Custom ROMS? Am happy to donate towards the purchase of a smartwatch for the dev if it can help resolve the battery, Skype, Facebook and Voice search issues.
Also heard from my OEM supplier in China that a new version with Android 4.3 will be coming out early 1st Quarter 14. Will keep you guys informed.

wow that is very cool! keep us posted, we love updates! haha
Also if you find useful information or good apps for the watch let me know so i can update the OP in the meantime for other peeps.
Cheers!
There's also Augmented Smart Watch Pro (Play Store), however I suspect it's still the same issue that ZGPAX is a phone, not a watch. Might be worthwhile to reach out to those developers to check their pulse on this application.

[Q] Reducing Audio Latency Through Mods

I'm using a USB MIDI keyboard (through a mini USB connector) and trying to use my Galaxy S4 to drive the sound. The reason is that it's a small, portable, solid state computing device (stage vibrations already killed a couple hard drives in the last few months) that I already own. The drawback, of course, is latency. The delay between key press and sound generation makes this unworkable.
Here's a list of what I've done, I'd love to hear any advice for making this possible. I'm hoping to update this into a complete tutorial if it is successful:
1) The best app as far as sounds available (for the music I play, this may vary for you) AND allowing external keyboard control is Music Synthesizer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levien.synthesizer). It would be ideal if there was an app that allowed VST plugins for custom sounds or had its own internal latency controls, but none seem to exist on Android. Please, please notify me if I'm wrong. That would make this whole setup better.
2) Because stock Android is super bloated, I wiped and flashed TriFroceRom onto my device using TWRP. This was harder for me than I'd like to admit, so allow me to point future people to what worked for me:
First you'll need to get TWRP up and running. Here's the walk through that worked for me: http://wccftech.com/install-twrp-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s4-i9505/
This is the best tutorial I've found for installing TriForce: http://wccftech.com/flash-triforcerom-54-samsung-galaxy-s4-sphl720/. MAKE SURE you do not just reboot straight away. Follow that last step about going back to home, reboot menu, into system. And it may ask to fix your root permissions too. I skipped that part and had a dead phone for a while.
Also, if you're on this stage and wondering about the best way to back everything up before you do it, G Cloud (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.genie9.gcloudbackup&hl=en) is your answer. It is free, works perfect on upload and download, and lets you look at what is on their server at any time (including browsing photos, not just file names). Text messages and contacts sync too. If you pay a little bit of money for the full version, it will even keep your application data. If you're super cool and want to put in my referral number, it's BG2III (gives me more storage, and those are uppercase letter i not number 1s).
3) I then added Ktweaker so that I could overclock and improve the system performance. I watched this video to figure it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5hcuLG-xp0. He has a link to download the files for Ktweaker which is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294083 but you ALSO need to know that, with the links provided, you PROBABLY need 4.3 touchwiz version. TriForce Rom is a touchwiz rom for sure, and depending on when in the future you see this, check your device's about page (in the settings on your phone) to make sure which version of android you're running.
ALL OF THIS SAID, I have noticed zero improvement. I've read some documentation on Ktweaker and watched some videos on optimizing it and tried several different settings (overclocking, changing the CPU governor, reducing internal and external read ahead (and increasing, for kicks and giggles, though it seemed counter to my intuition), and ultimately have found not a single detectable millisecond of improvement in the latency.
Does anybody have any ideas? I understand that the Nexus devices are supposed to have lower latency, but a new device is not currently in my budget. It seems to me that MIDI controllers have been possible with very low latency since far before the computing power of even this phone was available, so conceivably there should be a way.

Mi A1 Moddability in general and Oreo vs. Nougat?

Hey guys,
up till today I'm still using a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with Android 4.3.
It is modded to the max to exactly meet my needs and "paranoia":
- Custom Rom TouchWiz based rom
- Custom Kernel with some special script based tweaks (for example: MAC randomization everytime I turn Wifi on - handy for time limited free access points and to prevent beeing tracked etc.)
- Full Disk Encryption with a password different than my unlock pin (so when the device is off it requires a long password, but when on only a shorter pin)
- Xposed with the "old" Xprivacy Pro, Greenify and lots of other useful modules (like device shutdown after x failed amounts of unlock password etc)
- Lightning Launcher (allows "pinned" widgets that do not scroll - like the clock always beeing shown on top of all my homescreens) and custom widgets made with UCCW
- Button mods (double tap menu button turns on/off auto rotation, long menu switches last two apps, long back kills foreground app etc.) and homebutton mod to turn on flashlight when held while device is locked (to turn it on blindly / without looking)
- Sidebar Launcher Appsi for all my apps (and using xprivacy to prevent certain apps from showing up in the list at all)
... etc etc.
It took me a long time to set up everything and whenever I bought a new phone I sold it soon after because they never could be modded that hard like my old note 3 could be. (not to mention the built in batteries - I HATE that so much about all new devices).
Long story short: The Mi A1 could maaaaybe finally be the device to replace my Note 3 - but for that I need to be able to really mod it hard again hehe.
What really is important to me is beeing able to use xposed and xprivacy (unfortunately the xprivacy lua is not that good as the old one as far as it reads in the description), controlling the device encryption with my own 20+ Character Passphrase while still having a shorter pin when the device is booted up (and it beeing "full device encryption" not just file based if that still exists?). Removing all google apps except the playstore (and the account manager - dont even want the google play services crap) and preferably beeing able to install modded playstore which does not autoupdate itself etc.
-----
Do you guys think this is possible at all? And if so - should I stay with a 7.1.2 based rom or go for oreo? I mainly care about modability as I explained..
Hope someone is in the same boat or at least knows enough about this phone and the roms/kernels/availabe and working xposed mods to help me out.
There's pretty much no development for Nougat so it would be better if you were to get on oreo
Modabillity is pretty great with this phone so far
Look around on xda and see if you like it

but does xposed and stuff like modded playstore etc exist/work for oreo? and do you maybe know if its possible to have a different boot password than just the unlock pin when device is powered on?
and how about rootcloak and stuff like that? On my old note i can pretty much fake everything to apps and prevent root to be detected or feed them with fake data through xprivacy - but does this all still work to the same extend on the newer android versions? This safetynet bull**** has been around since when again? Can that still be fooled?

I'm not really sure about modded play store and boot password stuff but what I do know is that you can use Magisk (Similar to SuperSu + Extra useful mods) to hide root from certain apps that you choose
Xposed does work perfectly fine but it depends on the modules and whether they work on oreo. If not, magisk modules are also pretty good
If you happen to own a phone that you can flash Oreo on, (see, Lineage 15), then you can pretty much know and discover everything about Oreo and how modding works on it

Just to help out a bit, if possible:
Camera seems to be fine on my P2XL - though I have not enabled any HDR+ or raw settings.
Now Playing is working for me, grabbed the theme song off the show I was watching last night.
Markup "edit" button can be fixed. Clear data in markup, open photos and use markup from within that; you should get a permission request. (simply going into permissions on the markup app and enabling any/all may work as well, but is untested)
In dialer/recents, tap the number, and choose block from the drop down menu. I am in the beta for the Google phone app - so that may be part of it. Dirty flash may also affect this.
Clarification only: Photos is broken in dark-mode, but only in that all options dialogs/drop-downs are white text on white background. Other than that, you can still browse photos/albums, etc.
For clarity: My device is the Pixel 2 XL and Q was installed via factory image with full wipe (no dirty flash), and I did not restore from any backups.
Camera is fine for me on 2xl. Nothing different. HDR+ works as normal so does raw DNG.

Now playing is working for me - just not displaying on the lock screen. I just got home form a birthday party, and every song the DJ played is in my NP history;
In addition to the charging time estimate, the estimate in the pull down notification area is completely off base compared to the estimated time left in Settings --> Battery;
My built in screen recording works for me, and has worked since I enabled it from the Features flags in Developer Options;
No issues with Google Photos with dark Mode. Caveat: I had dark mode enabled in Pie, and took the Q DP1 OTA over that Pie install;
I found that there is a microphone icon at the top left when selecting Panorama photo mode that I never saw before (was that introduced with Q DP1, or just a very recent Google Camera update?)
I've not noticed a discernible slowdown in the Camera app (and I always use HDR+ / Night sight for my photos), but I have noticed that when I try to view a picture / video, particularly like an MMS in Messages / Google Voice, the phone is extremely slow and laggy.

Yes, it will overwrite twrp and magisk.
There are always potential problems with any update to beta builds, however, many are running Q without issues. Best advice I can give is to familiarize yourself with fastboot commands, since you'll need to install twrp again, and read, read, and read again all of the information in the Q threads so you know what to do and expect :good:

Huge thanks mate, and there is problem for me,as keybord not working on laptop...
You'll probably need access to a different computer - or else need to buy a cheap USB KB to use, because use of a separate computer / laptop is pretty much essential to get this working (root + Q, not to mention installing TWRP by using fastboot boot to boot TWRP, then installing TWRP from inside the booted TWRP).

Yes, it will overwrite twrp and magisk.

You should get the next update fine, provided your on stock recovery without root. I don't run betas personally, but my info comes from reading about others that do. As with anything android...YMMV :good::laugh:
Android Q Beta Experience
I've been on Android Q beta for almost 3 weeks now. It is used as a daily driver since I have only the one Pixel 2. I flashed the new image myself using TWRP rather than opt into the beta with Google. Other than a problem with now playing not always showing up on the screen and a slight delay when I go to the Favorites page in Phone app everything seems to work alright. I am getting roughly the same battery life as with Android Pie. Oh, and my banking app (ICICI Bank, India) is not working. It doesn't send an SMS to activate the app. I thought this might be as the phone number is shown as unknown. I understand that Vodafone in India does not show the phone number in the SIM information in Settings. I have activated dark mode and even photos and camera app work without a hitch. I have rooted with Magisk (Canary channel) and that is working without any problem.
OTOH, I've also been on Q since the day it came out (my birthday, coincidentally - love being an Ides of March baby lol).
I've had some issues crop up here and there, but nothing really serious. I was on Pie, rooted, and used the uninstall routine inside of Magisk to de-root my Taimen before taking Q, and then rooted it again with the (then latest) canary build.
What I'm hoping is that the Magisk procedure to de-root the device, take the OTA, and then before rebooting, applying the patched boot.img to the new partition will work, the same as if you're rooted on Pie and get an OTA.
Time will tell.
My notifications is coming like this only.. is this a bug?
or the clock is missing?
My device is not rooted. I'm not using any module or theme.
Clock missing - have you rebooted?

Yes I have. Atleast 2-3 times.
Wonder if it is System UI Tuner related?
You could give this a shot and see if the System UI is set to hide the clock, though the last time I actually tried to hide the clock, it didn't leave that space there....
