[Q] Restoring factory Kernel (1.1) with CWM - Nook Touch General

Hi, after installing a new kernel with multitouch and norefresh through CWM, and considering installing the overclocked one by guevor (update: installed oc kernel), but I had some newbie questions about restoring the Kernel in case I wanted to go back to stock or update to 1.2.1.
I have taken full factory backups at 1.0.1 with noogie by copying the physical disk with diskimage, and another backup with the 1.2 rooter gui. I have since updated to 1.1 (no backup on 1.1) and rooted before I installed the new kernel. Is there any way to revert to the default kernel on 1.1.0?
Also, Is there any way to adjust the contrast in fastmode? The text is barely readable and an unusual amount of gosting (maybe something is wrong), but it's super fast.
Thanks so much, and this community has been a lifesaver since last night when I got my nook. Go easy on me since I've only had my nook for a few hours, I've been reading a lot and searching these forums for hours.
Also, bonus questions:
1. Is it possible to set a custom wallpaper (behind the icons)
2. Is it possible to actually decode/play videos? no video apps seem to work, even p2p ones.. also youtube videos / flash doesn't work which is strange because android 2.1 should support video right?
3. What's the consensus about screen damage/use using fast mode? Brand new nook.... lol. I'm not sure if I'm shortening the 10 year life of the e-ink display to 1 week.

II. No. Try to change font in your reader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20069292&postcount=10
or use NoRefresh to read text.
or try different reader for eg. https://code.google.com/p/apv/downloads/list
1. if you change your launcher from 'ReLaunch' to for eg. 'LegacyLauncher' then yes.
2. RockPlayer + software decoding = playing videos

3. Your battery will probably die faster than the screen. I used NoRefresh and FastMode from the start and the screen still works fine. On the other hand my battery died (2 weeks before the end of warranty).

Thanks for your help! I've seen you around the forums quite a bit and learned a lot from reading your past posts.
I was able to play rmvb with rockplayer (still in beta?), but couldn't figure out how to make the streaming p2p tv applications work (also rmvb) such as PPTV, and PPS which usually work on everything (although they installed properly and also tried downloading and installing codecs. I had to download the rmvb file from pptv and play it manually on rockplayer.
Thanks for the Legacy Launcher tip, looks great! Edit: Unfortunately I can't get wallpapers to work there either. When I select wallpaper, it gives me 2 options, from pictures, or from wallpapers. pictures shows "no media", and wallpapers are just a few standard wallpapers. I can't find anywhere to select a picture from the SD card, and I can't find any "media" or wallpaper folder in file browser. UPDATE: I was able to get wallpapers by downloading the app "wallpaper changer" and "ES file explorer".
Interesting to know about the battery, I was also worried about that. I managed to suck through 35% of the battery in 5 hours. I didn't buy the official wall charger, but I used a chinese 5 volt adapter I had laying around after I kept getting the following problem:
Another problem I've been having is that when I plug the NST into my computer via USB everything goes ballistic on my nook, it rapidly connects and drops USB mode, and then if I go into settings both internal storage and SD card are greyed out "unavailable". What could cause that?
Finally, is there anyway to get ADB on windows without downloading the entire android SDK? I want to apply the IMEI fix to install whatsapp, but I can't get ADB to work at all. UPDATE: I solved it, adb.exe baby and I guess you can use that with commander. My problem was the default wireless adb app wasn't working, I installed wifi adb and it worked. Very odd, since usb connection didn't work, but at least I got my IMEI and whatsapp. Any methods for getting working contacts on NST? I'm going to try the contacts.db workaround if there is no other options, but I'm hoping for something less risky and automated.
I also wanted to note that I solved the 24 hour wait time on google market, go to gmail and add a second contact and sync that contact. The first google account will automagically work.

1. I think that 'nook' launches 'hardware video decoding' by default when you try to open up a stream from the apk so the only option is to download videos and play them locally. 'TubeMate' is able to do this.
http://m.tubemate.net/
On the other hand if the apk contains a video player with 'software decoding' this could work like it should.
I know that 'BeyondPod' was able to play audio podcasts from within application. Haven't tested it on videos.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.beyondpod&hl=en
2. Don't forget to turn all useless animations in the Launcher off and get "Minimalist Black - ADW Theme'. You can find it in 'TouchNooter' package.
3. Try to use a different micro usb cable. Sounds like yours is broken.
4. In the current version of NookManager, ADB through USB is not supported.
5. Can't help you with that right now.

[Q] Questions about the NC

Hello all,
I am considering getting a NC for my sister.
She will only want to do some light web browsing reading and the big thing is watching a movie when traveling.
Will the new update allow this?
If I have to root it will that even be something it can do?
play a dvd rip or a movie formatted for the ipod for example.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
stock can do all this, even 1.1 could from what I remember. Although I never tried watching movies, there was a section for them. Just remember to get the best quality, you have to convert it correctly. Just converting it to an iPod will work, but won't look as good as it can. I suggest DVD Catalyst (it costs, but the guy who made it deserves the "donation") or if you're cheap, handbrake. DVD Catalyst has pre-set format for the Nook and you can google what settings to set handbrake to.
The nook color is very capable at playing normal size videos (i.e the 175MB or 350MB shows). Since its so easy to root it I recommend that you do and then you have a choice of MPEG4 players (no conversion needed). You can also install any ebook reader you want
I don't think rooting is a good suggestion right now. The 1.2 update just came out and isn't rooted yet. I'm sure it wont be long till we are free again, but I don't recommend the idea of rooting right now.
That said, I do believe its all possible on stock 1.2. I'll reboot into 1.2 and see how video playback goes. I know it works on CM7.
for a general user, I too suggest sticking with stock 1.2 until there is an auto-nooter (auto root) method, even then you/she may never need more than stock 1.2.
I have successfully rooted 1.2 using nooter 0.2. I have not gotten Android Market to work yet but I have many apps working including zeam. You will need another launcher like zeam to use applications not from the nook market because they do not show in the nook apps menu. You could of course use 1.1 and use auto-nooter to get the video player apps you want. The main difference is flash is not supported in 1.1. 3rd party apps do show in the extras menu in 1.1.
Back again. This time from stock updated Nook Color. Yes videos play just fine. I tested it on my 3 stooges rips. Just go into the gallery and find your movies. Light browsing obviously works, since I am posting this.
Root might be great once itcomes back again, too.

Won't a rooted 1.1 NC try to update itself when the update goes automatic? I have never rooted, but the auto update looks to be a common concern in the forums at the moment. Just curious.

[Q] Some thoughts and questions on CM7

So I recently flashed CM7 and I have had some time to download all my apps and get things configured I came up with some questions and had a bit of a boot loop issue.
Ill start with the boot loop issue. A few days ago I noticed while on charge it just kept booting over and over. I have this happen from time to time on my rooted Eris with CM. No biggie I just unplug and things work themselves out. But not with the Nook. I turned it off and powered back on but its just kept booting. Sometimes it would make it to the desktop and then reboot, sometimes it wouldnt make it past the splash screen before rebooting, and sometimes it would make it to the desktop and I get an ADW Launcher error then it reboots. I followed the same procedure I followed when I originally flashed it and its been 3 days now working just fine. This time I only downloaded the apps I really needed and I currently have no SD card in it. The one I used before was the same 8 Gig card I used with Nookie Froyo (Can that card just be formatted within CyanogenMod or do i need to format it on my pc?). So Im thinking maybe that was the problem? But then I found this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043623&highlight=cm7+boot+loop Someone mentions an issue with the battery going dead. That could be it as well because it did die out just before I put it on charge that night. Any thoughts? Like I said I already reflashed just hoping I can avoid that from happening again. Im keeping track of downloaded apps and changes while testing atleast a day before doing more.
Next up is the Notification Bar. Are there any options for changing the color or maybe even the icons themselves like the WiFi, Battery, Notifications Buttons. I like the icons themselves just fine but hate how they are not all one neutral color. I like to change themes but always feel like I need to match up with something green.
So whats the deal with Wallpaper? My Eris has handled every size wallpaper Ive thrown at it. Beautifully if I may add. But the Nook struggles. Ive read some on the subject here and thought I had a decent solution when I was running Nookie Froyo but things are different on CM7. The only way I found to get decent resolution is using the browser to Google search wallpaper and setting wallpaper from within the browser. As you can imagine you dont always get the crop you want. Do I really have to crop every wallpaper specifically for my Nook or is there an easier way?
Overclocking. Boy its been a lifesaver for my Eris but im not sure about the Nook. I was impressed with a score of 1629 at the stock 800Mhz. But I wonder....was that score legit? I ran a bunch of tests back to back and they went something like this 1450, 1527, 1549, 1532, 1596, 1612, then the 1629. With the exception of that one time every test got a better score. Now when overclocked to 925 my best score was 1634 after 6 runs the first was in the 1300 range. I changed the CPU setting within CyanogenMod Settings but I wonder if I need to clear cache first? I was also looking into downloading Dalringrins kernals but can I just add his kernal to the card I used to flash CM7 originally and just flash the kernal? Or do I need to start all over?
Video and streaming video? Whos running a slick video streaming setup over their home network? What are you using and can it be an all in one setup including support for my Nook, Eris, PS3,and various laptops? Ive purchased some harddrives for movie storage but I dont want to rip my DVD collection in some specific format thats only good for one device. Id also like to load some movies and shows right on my SD card for times when I may be away from a connection. What do you guys suggest? My research has turned up many different formats and resolutions. Its been difficult to piece it all together.
I realize this is alot and much of what Im asking may be buried here in these forums but this thread will serve two purposes. To help me organize and speed up the process of getting my setup functioning the way I want. This post also in know way means ive given up on any of this. Im still working on all of it on my own. Researching and testing as time allows.
CyanogenMod-7.0.2
CWM-3.0.0.6
Well, as far as wallpaper goes, the perfect size ratio for wallpaper seems to be 1200 x 1024 at 169 ppi (pixels per inch). Gallery, Quickpic, and other image apps I've used crop to that ratio.
Gallery does some weird quality degradation (or it's resizing it) so my test image looks a smidge less sharp than it does setting wallpaper in Quickpic, for example. It looks absolutely crisp at those dimensions when set with Quickpic or Zeam (when Zeam is default wallpaper agent, it automatically expands crop tool for entire image at this size/ratio).
I've been saving my wallpapers at 1200x1024 (169 ppi). I'm not sure how it would affect your wallpaper if you've used an app like LCDDensity to change the Nook's pixel density from the default (169ppi).

Quickpic is exactly what I needed. Works great!
Im gonna start looking into the VideoLan links tonight. Is this something you use? Im familiar with VideoLan but I remember having difficulty with their software before. I think it was when I was trying to stream from a TV tuner in my desktop over WiFi. Probably not the fairest situation to form a judgment.
Since My OP Im 90% sure I got stuck in that boot loop described above because the battery went dead. Mainly because I did it again but this time on purpose. I now have two Nook chargers. I dont think it would have been an issue again but now theres no chance. Anyone have a car charger?
Im also not going to mess around with overclocking for awhile. I realized lately. It runs great whats the point in rushing?

New Nook HD+ owner here!

Hi all, Just got a Nook HD+ on sale. I know it isn't the newest, shiniest piece of gadgetry and I don't really care. So far I'm digging it, I really like the different aesthetic. (Who puts a hole in the corner of their tablets?!.. really?) and aside from rooting it, which I try to do to every android device I get right off the bat. What else is there?
I see there are a few 10.1/2/3 ROM's out there but what are the actual benefits compared to just using the stock ROM? Also, is there any custom kernels floating around? I'm always a fan of messing with kernel stuff like undervolting/overclocking/governor tweaks/etc.
I think your answers are in each rom development thread. But I'd say cm 10.2 (I didn't try cm 10.1) is much more responsive than stock. I didn't find any kernel out there besides those inside the roms.
I suggest getting the most recent RC3 release of CM 10.1 and in performance settings, set transparency to 16bit and purge assets.
That seems to be the best overall combo.
10.2 has no apparent benefit for the HD+ as far as performance. The trim function has been disabled since not Nook flash friendly for a lot of units and OpenGL 3 is not supported by the chipset in the HD+.
Hmm, OK, ok...
I could have sworn I saw a post here talking about using 10.3 but lurking through the dev thread I don't see it anywhere. I'll keep looking.
Are the nook apps usable on CM roms? I know the launcher won't be but is it possible to use just the reader, library, etc? Thanks for the response guys! Also, anyone familiar with using CM on the Nook, do Hulu, Vudu, Netflix all work also the HDMI-out and bluetooth? These are all things I use and can't lose.
UPDATE: Oh, my bad, the post says "10 1.3" which is a little confusing and I saw it as 10.3

Im new to Tablets (only have a Nook HD+ for acouple weeks ) but not flashing.
Just installed CM 10.1.3 (last night)
One thing which i was after (and the main reason for me) was USB thumbdrive support/storage (link about it) and that worked great.
After, i did install the B&N "store" app (the green 'n' app) and it installed fine (had to install it via .apk found out side of the Google Play (dont know if i can post links to apps at this forum)). With that 'n' app, you can shop the B&N site along with reading a book. Will look later tonight and see if i can install there library app.
Dont know about HDMI (am wondering the same - but not a big deal for me).
As for bluetooth, i tried a Logitech MX5000 ("desktop") keyboard just to see what happens, they made the hand-shake and connected but nothing after that... i did not try too hard though... just wanted to see what would happen. That keyboard is the only bluetooth "device" i have.

I'm pretty sure posting it would be fine because it isn't a paid app and is freely available. If you still leery you could IM it to me, I'd like to give it a try. I have the HDMI adapter and it worked fine with the stock ROM but I'm only getting a blank screen on the TV with 10 1.3. I've read it is working though so I am going to tweak it a little bit to see what the deal is.

I'm in the same boat, just got a new Nook HD+ (came free with my car). I used the stock ROM for a day or so, pretty fast but limited in scope. I've installed CyanogenMod 10.1.3 using the instructions from the dummies thread, it ran fine for about half a day and now suddenly performance is awful. Animations lag, trying to change the settings lags, there's input lag, I have to wait 1-2 seconds for the keyboard to come up, 2-3 seconds to tap on different sections in Settings. I thought maybe I installed too many apps so I tried to wipe it but I can't. "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM still leaves crap behind, Factory data reset in Settings does the same. Now I have 6 GB left of 12.67 GB and nothing installed. Is there any way to fully remove everything?
Edit: some exploration with du in terminal revealed two huge folders, Android/data and Android/obb. Sure enough, there's my missing 6 GB. How does this not get deleted? Does reset mean something else in Android than other mobile operating systems?

Those folders are in your media (sdcard) folder and media does not get wiped in a factory reset. In CWM you need to go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia' in order to wipe your media.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.
I love my Nook HD+ and that is after trying a Samsung Note 8, a Nexys 2013 and others. Really for the prize you can't beat it!
I have tried pretty much every ROM there is here in XDA both from SDCard and emmc. For my Nook HD+ in particular nothing beats the Stock ROM with Unknown Sources and Root. I also tried Nova, Apex, SPB, Smart, Go EX, and AWD launchers in their Pro versions but the only one that was really fast and had no lagging at all was Next Launcher and that is the one I have know on my HD+.
To be able to use USB OTG (not needed on CM 10 thanks to verygreen) on Carbon, Slim, etc., I used the usbhostswither.apk that is included on Xperia Carbon JB, installed it and worked great. I haven't been able to installed it on my HD+ even with root and unknown sources enable, it gives me a parsing app error. Trying to see if I can installed it and if it workd to turn on and off USB Host on Stock Rom with root.
I tried and now use 3 apps from the forum that really rock, FX Explorer, Gallery Plus and WebSharing Lite.
You are gonna have a blast with your HD+ and now that some at XDA have started to test and port Ubuntu Touch to it, well you won't be without a whole lot of options to mess with your Nook

Hi leapinlar and community, first thanks for all your contributions, they have enable the Stock Rom to be a great alternative for those of us that like many of it features.
I have a problem installing the USBHostSwitcher app on the HD+ rooted and with unknown sources enabled. The weird thing is that I was able to install and use the app successfully when testing emmc Carbon Rom JB and Xperia Tweeked for HD+. I was also able to installed it to other devices like my Galaxy Note II (stock, not rooted).
The Nook installer error on HD+ reads " Parse error" "There is a problem parsing the package".
Is there a way to create a package so I can flash an app (like we do with the Google Apps?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Even if you can get it to install, I'm not sure it will work on stock. I know verygreen had to mod the kernel to make it work. And I think all the other ROMs like Carbon, etc, use his kernel.

[OPINION] Best ROM for this old device.

I recently restored this device in to service for use as a Living-Room Controller (Music-to-Receiver via BlueTooth or from Sony Remote app (DLNA/Pandora/Slacker/FM), EcoBee Thermostat Control, HUE and Insteon Lighting Control, etc.). If you have no use for this tablet as a tablet, but wish it was stable enough to be a single-purpose (limited multi-purpose) controller of some kind, then here is what I recommend:
I tried all ROMs again and ended up going all the way back to VegaCream RC2. It has no speaker pop-noise and is completely stable even without an SDCard. You should install "Advanced WiFi Lock Free" from play store to keep wifi always on, and I would also set the display to never sleep (just turn it off manually with either the power-button or any free "screen off" app). You should probably also install a very lightweight launcher (like a "Car Dock" app or something) and set it up for easy huge-icon access to the 6 or so apps you will ever use this device for.
Here is a (currently) working DL link:

Here is an alternate opinion, as VegaBean is needed by some (but for my purposes it was more important to I'll avoid the speaker pop on startup and to avoid BlueTooth issues)...
tab said:
CM10.1 has been a fine ROM. I love the launcher and built in overclock and tweakers settings - very interesting to play with and nice to use. But I've gone back to VegaBean with no SD card ext4 partition.
Using an ext4 partition with CM10.1 or VegaBean made me too frustrated with often long hangs and stutters as the tablet tried to read and write to the SD card. Running VB with only a FAT32 partition on the SD card I need to be careful to choose just the apps I need, but I have plenty of space for YouTube, Google Play, Bubblesoft UPNP, MXPlayer and BBC iPlayer. These apps all let me move them to the SD Card, but without noticeable performance impact when I switch or start apps.
VegaBean is Android 4.1, so Bubblesoft UPNP supports gapless music playback. (It doesn't on the older Android versions). The WiFi is pretty robust, and normally standby is pretty stable. It's good knowing that Bluetooth is there if I want to use it.
Apex Launcher in VegaBean is nice. I've tried the version 2.X from the Play store (and paid for it), but have gone back to using the version that you bundled in the ROM, Scanno.
Despite the goodness in VB, there are minor issues; these are the ones I noticed:
Sometimes loosing the WiFi, requiring turning WiFi off and on again (installing Advanced WiFi Lock to avoid loosing WiFi seems to work well)
Sometimes finding the tablet locked with a black screen after it has been sleeping (installing Advanced WiFi Lock seems to stop this too)
HDMI output has black borders, and using HDMI out and BBC iPlayer at the same time causes a reboot (HoneyIce Chimera had perfect HDMI)
Sometimes I get carried away and install too many apps and run out of space - any remaining trimming of default install size would be welcome
So for me, the best future for Advent Vega ROMs would be a VegaBean refresh

Microwear H5 MT6737M Android 6

Very scarce info everywhere, but quite a few people already use this $80 super-powerful watch including me (which is basically a micro-smartphone).
Many video reviews already.
I personally think that such powerful watch (much more powerful than my cheap 2016 tablet on previous Mediatek chip with less RAM) is a such small smartphone with illusion like it’s watch made by very modified version of Circle launcher with edited Android 6. I don’t see any limitations on this watch to run full stock Android OS here from the M6737M series smartphones, if ported. Even now all full-featured apps from Google store made for smartphones are perfectly runs here, including very big navigation apps and even the full “battery saver” function present from smartphones (first one which I see on Android watch ever). The only limitation which I noticed is very small display (specific apps cannot fit) and badly edited Android OS (like completely deleted status bar from OS, any 3rd-party status bar apps are installing fine but crashing on settings). Most 3rd-party launchers from Google store and open sources are installing here (only with few exceptions) - the most stable one I’ve found is open source “Essential Launcher” ver. 1.3.
My feeling from “lift wrist turn on” function with “swipe pages” makes almost iPhone X experience here, no any buttons needed, very stable power on only by view and swiping windows (including closing them by swiping to the right) makes very good feedback to the user.
Everything spoiled only by edited OS - awful work with fonts, too many illogical Menu lists, deleted functions like not present “Storage” in OS settings(only shortcut to file explorer) - the USB storage media not adding because of edits on OS level, considering normal micro-USB & even if you turn on “usb media” in developer settings.
Very few watch-faces with no way to install any others, it’s obviously fake feature to make you feel and use them as watch.
So, what I think many would be glad to see here - the root is the most important goal for now(developer menu allows bootloader unlock-not sure if it’s true because USB media settings there not works), maybe putting the normal Android is the next goal.
The root is very needed to firewall for very shady apps here, it’s very powerful device so it have full smartphone spyware, like notorious MTK Logger & Thermal Manager, which can work at sleep mode (it is almost suspicious that they broke USB media function so user can’t bypass network connection for installs). Root needed to work with display resolution and etc.
Edit: the processor by Aida app recognized as MT6737M but on Aliexpress you can find watch easily by search term processor "MTK6737M" (only like 7 sellers total).
I have the H5 as well, and you're correct! The main draw back is the stripped down OS, for example the call forwarding features are missing..
Ordered one of these a few weeks ago, should be getting delivery soon. Interesting to see how it performs, my last android watches have been mt6572 & mt6580, both of these I ported full Android versions to, I may give it a go at porting a full Android version to this in the future

Well I got mine today, seems good so far. As for alternative launchers tried a few that work OK, if you want to change the clockskins for now I have found that Universal Launcher New Gen works just fine (you add clockskin folder +clockskins)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ricktop.ClockSkinCoco
I use mine at least 2 weeks maybe. Without root (which I plan to do but don't have time right now) I do not connect them to any Internet, so I'm using them as just watch (it's my first smartwatch). Files I'm sending through bluetooth from my Android phone, quite neat that you can install apps from bluetooth menu right away.
About battery - very good, if you don't connect them to networks at all, with battery Saver on & "wrist move activation" off they can work whole week on 1 charge (this includes some extensive using in 2 days on winter street with GPS apps, camera-video, constant time checking and etc.). They CAN HOLD MORE days, after the full charge, watch calculated the battery to the 15 days of work - which is believable, as I see now if you will check only time manually they can easily save 1 charge to 12-13 days. I use charger with them only once at week, it's quite shocking to read Apple Watch forums where people making that every 2-3 days.
They're quite powerful - making the zip archive internally from 250Mb photos/videos takes something like 2 minutes.
Because the step-counter here work always (even if you take them to the other room) - this device is just made for the SmartNavi (open source navigation app which use mainly step-counter with rare or no GPS connection for battery saving).
Can't wait for a custom recovery to be made for it, so I can root it. Tried all the rooting apps out on the web and none work so far.
Well I have managed to get Root access, using Magisk, and flashing patched boot image, struggling to create a TWRP recovery. Hoping someone out there can come up with a custom recovery.
Managed to port TWRP to it, but it is in miniature! going to have a play around with it to see if I can make it usable. Anyone with suggestions be grateful - well gave up on trying to amend TWRP resolution, and installed flashify - just flashed an AOSP ROM to the H5, happy days!
Well done stevea76
A step by step or point in the right directions kinda 'guide' would be really appreciated, cos the H5 with its stock funos is far from fun... sure its usable but no fun.

I will put something together at the weekend, by then I should have something usable, don't want people breaking their new toys!

It would be interesting to find if there's any "recovery mode" on stock ROM image at all, considering that there's only 1 button. On similar watches from Samsung and etc they have quite awkward way to enter recovery - like some swipe to the left in time of logo showing and etc. I tried to repeat any swiping during boot - nothing...
Also, by the usual use of watch (almost a month now) I can say that in my case of use the battery holding 1 full charge for 7 days, so a week, the same amount calculated by OS also. That's the battery regime or mode which is now constant in my case (it can be different in situation of other people).
The battery here can be saved even more for a week - I managed to notice that "sleep stat" function are working here at all times and cannot be turned off like step counter in this Android OS, at the night time it randomly turning on the pulse checker light even if you not wearing them, which using the battery (not a big deal, but using some).

Here is the link to the AOSP ROM I ported to the H5.
I must express it is a long winded way to flash it as I am not technically minded, just playing at it, and only do this if you have the stock ROM downloaded as a backup to revert back to and don't mind the possibility of wrecking your toy!, the only reason for me doing it this way is that the recovery TWRP I ported is functional, but not set for the screen size for the H5 so unless you have bionic eyes it is nearly impossible to use, hence the reason for my 'workaround' (note: If anyone can make the TWRP scaled for the watch, just flash the ROM in the usual way)
Here is a 'sort of' guide and link to files.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=252561
1. Flash
Microwear_Magisk_Patched_Boot_IMG using splash tool, reboot device.
2. Install Magisk Manager from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445/page4
Open Magisk manager and go to settings, set default action to 'Grant'
You now have root.
3. Flash
Microwear_H5_Recovery_TWRP using spflashtool.
4. Install
Flashify (for root users) from the Playstore.
5. Download directly to the watch (or to Computer and transfer to the watch) Microwear_H5_AOSP ROM AND the GAPPS of your choice (Open Gapps arm64 nano was my choice)
6. Use Flashify to install zip(s) making sure you click TWRP as recovery option and also tick the wipe cache, data etc (add the Gapps as well if you want Google)
Click Reboot on flashify.
Hopefully the watch boots to recovery and installs the ROM and gapps!
First boot sticks on boot animation, so if not starting after 3 or 4 minutes power off the watch and reboot, after another 5 to 10 minutes you should see 'android is starting'
Nav Bar is by default on permanently, to make this and notification bar 'hide' (fully Immersive) I used this method.
1. install on pc ADB (Guide below)
2. Enable developer options and USB debugging on watch.
3. connect watch (switched on)
4. Open ADB on pc.
5. Type: adb devices (click enter)
(should see you device is connected)
6. Then type: adb shell - (click enter)
7. Then type this line:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
Now the navigation bar will pop up when you pull down or up slightly on the screen and will auto hide after a couple of seconds.
As for sensors I don't think any are working.
I have included 3 launchers on this ROM, so make your choice!
Please, please, please DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS if you don't know how to revert back to stock rom. I bear no responsibility for broken toys!
Guys, who already have a scatter file for this watch, i really want to make a backup of current ROM before checking for any new updates (which is quite good version from January and there's nowhere on Internet any firmware files for this watch, so saving and sharing ROM is important). If i manage to download ROM i will post it on Google drive.
I wanted to force watch go into it's own recovery but my ADB installation don't see this watch connected - there's a primitive subsystem on watch beside Android OS, it can be seen when you turn Android OS "power off" and connect USB for charging - it will show the battery, i'm puzzled how to enter into any settings of that subsystem.
The stock firmware is on the Microwear Website.

Yeah, i noticed only now, strangely but i remember that a month ago there was nothing about H5 model on their site when i searched…maybe because they just released it.
Also the firmware have the same scatter file - the first one which i found myself for some cheap smartphone on 6737 chip, as i remember i found it on reddit.
As i seen no updates of firmware for now.

No updates as yet. I have ported an AOSP version, pretty much stock Android to the H5, it is basic, but I like the 'stock experience' on a square watch. Not got the sensors set up, but not really bothered about how many steps I have done on any given day or my heart rate for that matter.
Also if you want fancy clockskins then Eric's launcher works just fine on it.

As i understand correctly - here they simulated or just copied clock skins from Apple watch?
Where to find Eric launcher?
For everyone else i will write again link to the firmware from Microwear site here – https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WaktAl-cjCTE1l0jffA7BnevzESdlCwc?usp=sharing
because chinese support is very short in time and can vanish with website very easily (for example to find an older firmwares to my Onyx Boox ereader i used "webarchive" service, thanks gods we have it - only from this saved archived copies of pages i found the sharing links to the older firmwares, still i cannot find the first version of RemixOS release for KitKat-if anyone have the alpha - please message me)
Eric's launcher is here:
