Are Mi A1's software updates handled by Xiaomi?? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Is it true that Xiaomi is handling software update of Xiaomi a1?isn't it an Android one phone and Google must be taking care of software update? If that's the case then is it just a phone on pure aosp by Xiaomi? Coz in kernel version I see that it's build on mi server.

I think it's a joint effort, Xiaomi is the one doing the building and testing with Google supporting it and hosting the actual OTA updates, as well as supervising and making sure its all up to standard

But it should have been all Google. As it was for Gen 1 devices.Google should have taken care of sources too.Correct Me if iam wrong.Xiaomi is extremely bad in providing sources and updates. They just sucks.

Thats really great but isn't it the possibility that Xiaomi bakes it on their sever and then give it to google and then they check and distributes.

It's what I said in the beginning of this thread, that probably its baked at Xiaomi, guided by Google, final checked by Google and then the OTAs are hosted by them,
factory images are hosted on Xiaomi BTW

Yeah you are right

Well whoever is handling it, the speed should be a lot better. Rolling out monthly security patch at the last week of the month does not seem like 'android one' experience.

Actually the November updated has been just rolled out which is under two weeks after Pixels got it. Don't know about other Android One devices but updates for Xiaomi Mi A1 have been excellent so far.
My only concern is that they don't publish a changelog when you receive an update - just a few generic phrases, like "performance has been improved and bugs have been fixed".

We hope this is true
Seriously?
End of November sounds like their older promises...
I'm guessing Q1 of 2012 (so that carriers sell new phones for Christmas with 2.3) if ever, don't forget that in older posts they said (Huawei India) September - October or something like that.
And also, OTA updates? They even hide their other ROMS from their site and plan to release 2.3 so openly ? No PMs for filehosting links ? It must be some joke.
As I understand this means that our carriers have to take the update privately from Huawei as soon as it is ready, fill it with the usual useless apps and localization and submit it to the OTA Servers... and they have 1,5 month to do that so that Huawei can keep this promise. I'm not holding my breath
We'll see if its released by then. Everyone tend to postpone :<
if they'll fix microphone issue, enough for me.
Winter wonderland
Well...he didn't tell what year that November will be, 2025 probably, but only if it's snowing in Sahara and NASA finds life on Mars (Ha!) We're lucky to have skillful and motivated devs here @ xda who keep our X5's up to date when Huawei doesn't. Thank You!
It snowed once... may happen again
For the only time in recorded weather history, snow fell in the Sahara desert in southern Algeria on February 18, 1979. The storm lasted only half an hour and the snow was gone within hours.

I've been really disappointed with both Huawei and Saunlahti about the update policy (or to be more precise: lack of it). Damn operator variant is full of bloatware and they don't have a clue about the updates in Saunalahti.
My kids are using the two phones we have so I would need a stable ROM that has support for Finnish language. Any pointers my fellow Finns?
No one would need GB in a month anyway

CM7 is working well for me. I use Swedish but Finnish is available and working. Only a few menus are in English. Writing is easy aswell, I have English, Swedish and Finnish dictionaries in use.
I used to have Oxygen but at some stage they removed the "national roaming" alternative. With saunalahti you need this, if you don't want roaming on, because it thinks that you are roaming to Elisa. CM7 have this, Miui didn't have it last time I tried.
Void is also very stable and works with saunalahti if froyo is enough.

Yes very nice to delete my post. Looks like here truth is not valued Anyway Nforce is righ. New android version is days away.
It's said that ICS can also use 2.6.35 kernal which GB normally uses. Can we expect that ICS can be ported easily once we have GB source/drivers for U8800? if in that case, ICS wont be far away from us either.
well...also possible that I am just much too optimistic...

[31/12/2011] [KP4 & KP8] [Download + Video Inside] SamMobile Announces New Leak

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already.
SamMobile's Twitter account (here) has semi-announced that a new leak, with a build date of December 20th, is scheduled to be released publicly on January 1st, 2012.
Through a Twitter conversation between SamMobile and XplodWild, its also apparent that Team Hacksung do not currently have this leak.
This could be good news if issues such as NITZ support are fixed, but anyone who's followed the development scene with Samsung phones will know that this new leak also has the potential of breaking stuff the devs have already fixed.

Thanks for the info....
Sammobile also twittered that it's much better than KP2.
Personally I'm waiting for a decent Samsung release (leaked or official) so that we can get some custom roms based off it.
I don't mind the look of CM9, stock ICS etc but I most likely won't use it as a daily rom even when its fully stable. I prefer the Samsung based roms with their extras.
And yes I expect to get a grilling over this but its my opinion.

Seems legit!
It will be at least October before it is released. Google is not allowing any Android L apps (using the new api) until then.
What I think is that company's are already using an release source in secret, not accessible for us. But I don't believe September...

The API is public. There is no need for it to be secret. But it is subject to change so they aren't allowing apps to be published on the Play Store until it is finalized.
well if google wants to play catch up with ios8, a septembet release might be on the way for L but then again, the October relase according to the API regulations on playstore is legit too. I hope L will run well on our moto g

A tip in case you weren't aware.
A fellow XDA member has created this amazing little tool for checking and downloading Samsung firmwares directly from Samsung servers. It is a quick download and is free.
A side benefit is that no one has to visit that terrible website (Sammobile) and either suffer severely throttled downloads or pay those thieves an exorbitant fee to download at an average speed.
Hopefully they go out of business soon.

Ye their website is awful! I always download firmware much earlier than its need to to make sure I've got it instead of waiting for it to download.
Thanks for the tip.
Got this update yesterday & it installed with no issues, for those worried about battery life I always find that battery life settles a couple of days after any system update.

Ya, love the screen shot of an app?
Looking at it now, something's very fishy about OP and the thread, there's only ONE screenshot and it's on the camera app info, it's not even on the software update menu, he describes very few if any worthy details about the update.
Not to mention, he's the only guy so far who has this supposed "Android 10 update" for the Z4 "OTA on Verzion" when everybody else about almost a week later, still hasn't recieved an update.
The lack of any overwhelming proof and only a very few details is what raises a major red flag for me.
And why would a carrier variant of any phone gets an update before the UNLOCKED version? Could be me but that's honestly unusual for that to happen right?
News outlets shouldn't report on this guy for an update on the Z4, I'm feeling he's just spreading false hype.

Thanks for the response, we only want to see more screenshots (Specifically of the Software update menu or about phone menu) because people on other forums are questioning the legitimacy of this thread and we just want further proof.
Something like this may help. Shows Android version and model number in same screenshot, so that people know it's legit ?.

Okay, this is getting annoying at the least. Still nobody has this update, not even me as a Verizon Z4 user, and you're still refusing to send more screenshots of proof and it's been well over a week since you started this thread.
I mean how is it so hard for you to share a couple of screenshots that only takes very little of your time, it's that simple.
So either you're in a soak test, or something is faked (based on looking at how sketchy that original screenshot looked) and assuming either way, you just want to get attention.
People are tired of your bullshitting!
I'm not buying it:
