Well it was a good run, but returning. - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Honestly the phone was fast as hell just too many glitches and too many bad reviews to keep. My personal opinion of the phone the colors were true and nice at times and some things the colors were horrible. Camera was the best I've ever seen in my life and really really hate to lose it. The phone claims fast charge technology but my phone never fast charged at all (yes used OEM chargers and settings were fine) I had it side by side with my G8+ and the 8+ charged almost 50% faster overall.
The screen had a blue hue but barely noticeable but the screen did hurt my eyes sometimes in a dark room with bright down or up. Lots of apps force closed. Speakers were another amazing part of this phone sound quality is phenomenal. I can't justify spending $1000 on a half assed product when my gs8+ rather it be filled with bloatware or not or if it'll slow down, down the road, still an excellent phone. I'm entitled to my opinion as much as the next person but give it a try you may or may not feel the same.
Maybe if they come out with some better software updates to adjust the SRGB , fix the force closes, fix the charging issue, etc. Definitely might give the phone a run again if they fix these issues and I pray they do cause it could be the best phone. Good luck to everyone who loves it and all who will try it

So apps you installed closed, not those that came on the phone? Did you contact the developer of the apps and see what's going on? And you're returning a phone because other people said negative things about it?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

So you're returning a phone based on negative reviews? The blue hint is some most phones have. The colors could possibly be fixed if enough people contact Google.

No, returning the phone based on own situations with it, too many for a phone of that price and a phone that has that hardware. Like I said if it wasn't for the things I have experienced it wouldn't be an issue. And yes contacted app developers left and right about certain issues and they don't know why. Even stock apps froze when multitasking from time to time. And no fast charging was ridiculous and even day 2 of having the phone a big hang or freeze happened it put me into recovery mode couldn't restart the phone so had to erase and restore. Just annoying

Really? You returned a phone that you owned because someone else didn't like it?
I've had no problems with mine. I've used it daily since the 19th. No force closes. No glitches. No screen burn in. Fast charging works great.
The only thing mentioned in reviews that I do see is a blue tint when viewed at an angle - Big F'n Deal. It doesn't stop working when I view it at an odd angle, it just has a bluer tint on white backgrounds. That doesn't bother me in the least.
I have to believe that many of the overblown headlines are just sites trying to get more click$.
I'm very happy with my P2XL.

Sid you read the rest of my post or just that line? Yes I was scared to be outside the return policy

Fair enough.
When I first received my phone, I noticed the issue when looking at off angles.
However, I've since decided that it is not that big of a deal to warrant me to return it. The phone is significantly faster than any Android device on the market. Side by side comparison to my S8+, this did everything faster without any of the normal lag/pauses that Touchwiz brings.
I'll take the feeling of my phone being as fast as a brand new sports car, with an 'ok' screen vs a S8+ that has a overly vivid, but great screen, with hiccups accelerating like a Ford Focus.

Personally, I'm loving my XL. But I did realize something too regarding the quick charging. I know that it supports USB PD with 18W, and it displays "Charging rapidly" when I plug it into the brick it came with. When I plug it into a QC 2.0 brick though, it just displays charging. Is it not taking advantage of QC 2.0 speeds, or is it so slow compared to the stock brick that it doesn't detect it as rapid charging?

So basically my QC 2.0 chargers will charge at... what levels though? Would they essentially be like any other regular non-QC brick at this point?

Every device and charger are going to be different, but you can check out Ampere in the play store if you want numbers.

I have had the best results from USB-C to USB-C charging, and lesser results from USB-A to USB-C. If you're new to USB-C and Power Delivery (PD), I highly recommend you look at Benson Leung's approved devices for the best equipment.

LG G4 UK review

I got the LG G4 trough the insiders campaign in UK
Actually I own a Nexus 5, while in the past I had an S2 and a Note 2.
Nexus 5 is a quite good phone but battery life also with custom kernel is limited to its the battery size. Moreover when I bought my Nexus 5 I was coming from a Note 2, so I started to miss a bigger screen and for sure a better camera that is the weaker point of Nexus 5.
Battery
Let’s start from what everyone take care and want to now when they have to buy a new smartphone: “The battery life”.
So, taking into account that the battery life of a smartphone really depends on the usage pattern of every single user, apps and mobile reception of where we live, after 5 day of usage I can say that with my pattern of usage (see below) I am constantly getting between 4 and 5 hours of SOT.
Pattern of usage: 2 mails in push (one for work where I usually receive many mails by day), mixed use wifi/data, no push notification for facebook, chatting, browising, watching few videos, and reading mostly all the time. Some camera shots when I am with friends. Brightness always in automatic mode.
Camera
There are already too many example and comparisons on youtube. I can only confirm that the camera great one of the best for now. I have a DSLR camera and like to take my time when I have to take a picture of a landscape. So I really appreciated the manual mode and how it is good and simple the interface of the new camera app. Everything can be settled with few taps. Although a smartphone probably will never substitute a DSLR camera, with that toy on G4 you can have fun for sure.
Display
Also here, already many review and comparisons with the S6 amoled. Without judging which is better because I do not own an S6, what I can tell for sure is that it is really good. Colors are never saturated and brightness is fine in the majority of the situations. What I found really improved is the antiglare, the reflection of the sun seems to me pretty good, while a negative impression is that the display seems to be really power hungry as soon as you increase the brightness.
Reception and Calls
Reception is basically the same of my nexus 5 (pretty good) while I found the calls really clear on the LG G4 and better than my nexus 5.
Speakers
Good and really loud… was unexpected!
Missing Features out of the box
Two missing feature out of the box are the wireless charging and the quick charging. While the quick charging is officially supported by the SD808 and we only have to wait for a kernel update to have it enabled, the big disappoint is the wireless charge. Big disappoint because it is not officially supported on the leather cover but only buying a circle cover. After all the advertising on that cover by LG I can not understand why to enable a common feature of any actual flagship we have to change cover (or via an unofficial way, like a sticker to add to the cover).
Overall and final considerations
This phone is satisfying me under the majority of aspect that I want from a phone, like the battery life, the camera, the display and the quality of calls. I think this phone has a huge potential that can be improved with a good custom kernel and a lighter custom rom (even if I have to say that I found the stock rom really fluid and without any lag). With a custom kernel we will probably gain an other hour of SOT.

I got an email yesterday to say that I didn't get picked.
I'm in as well, with the insiders too. One disappointment is I thought we would get the phone before launch, it doesn't look that way anymore. I wonder if they will send out a random selection of colours or just the black.
I didn't get in. Looks like I'll have to buy one in Black Leather next week instead [emoji14]

Yep mee too .. From the mail seems that the device will arrive for the end of this week
I didn't get in, keen to hear what you guys think before ordering one
I'm in too! Devices are arriving tomorrow so we should be one week ahead of launch
I have been selected too for the UK campaign!! Tomorrow UPS is delivering the G4
I think at the end of the program we will be offered to keep the phone for £250, this is the money that they would take in case of loss lol
I'm pretty sure it is going to be the UK/EU model.
I'm just wondering if we will be getting the LTE of the WiFi only model from what I've seen that's the one the testers are getting overseas
And me mine due tomorrow as well
Has anyone figured out whether it will be metal or leather yet
Also I'm quite intrigued by the tone infinum headset that we are getting aswell

I just think it would be strange that the rest of the world gets the wifi model and the people in the UK the full one but then again the other people didn't have to leave a safety bond
That's very true, but I'm sure it said somewhere that rrp 500 that wouldn't be a dummy phone.
But on the other hand, why would the payment only be 250 if you didn't return it when the phone is around 599 gbp and the headphones are 80

Hey!
Does your G4 have 4G?! The one I got doesn't support it.
Mine too will arrive tomorrow ... it sound strange that the UK model is the only one not wifi, but it is also true that we were probably the only ones we had to provide the bank account to have it .. let's see tomorrow what we will get

Not quite true.
While a metal shield decreases the coupling between the primary and secondary coils, there are now wireless charging methods that work even with a metal-covered device.

These are not available yet, QI is the mainstream now, and at present QI cannot work with metal in between, may be in the coming years when QUALCOMM gets this right, we'll see them available.

There was a rumour (can't find it now) that the 6P would support Rezence, which I believe could work even with a metal-backed phone.
I don't know if that rumour has been confirmed, though.
Aww man. I've just bought a new qi charger too. I'm guessing one of the adapters should work fine though.
I just want the damn thing to work with my Air Dock. This is by far the best mounting solution for a car if you have Qi
Rather than wait for QUALCOMM with wireless charging through metal, I would rather like to see QUALCOMM or A4WP to release their Rezence standard product into the market, they have products available for the past 1-3 years, but none has made them onto the consumer market, I was offered a test sample a few year back, but I rejected it due to the contract associated with the test, I was told that because of certain reasons, that's why it was never allowed to be released on to the consumers market as of today.
Hopefully they can get their stuff out soon.
No Wireless charging..
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...6p-and-5x-wont-have-wireless-charging-either/
I'm losing interest in the new 6p by the day.
Hopefully there will be some wireless adapters available soon for USB type-c.
Not gonna happen - http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...6p-and-5x-wont-have-wireless-charging-either/ which is fine by me I never use it on my current N6
Wireless charging gets my Nexus 6 waaay too hot. Waking up to a smoking phone was the last straw. Goodbye & good riddance to inefficient charging.
It heats up a bit, but not too much. I love the convenience of just putting it down every night.
Cant believe both handsets are not getting wireless charging. I think its great, esp being able to charge your phone in a coffee shop without needing a plug and charger cable!
I use my TYLT charger to read all day in the office while I'm working. I don't understand why the lack of such a great feature. With the USB C addition it might take a while for wireless charging receivers to be available. So glad my current Nexus 6 is awesome enough to be worth keeping. Maybe the MotoX Pure might deserve a second look...
Sent from my Nexus 6
The reasoning is the device charges faster with USB-C cables is lame.
Go home set my Nexus 6 on my Qi Pad and it charges, do not really care if it charges fast.

My Nexus 6 NEVER gets hot while wirelessly charging. Its a great convenience and a big mistake not having this feature on the 6P. This is one of the reasons I cancelled my order for the 6P.
CC
I agree and I'm keeping my order for me. I've been on M previews since day one daily driving. Once the OTA hits I'll still have a month to test and use this one and if need be I can cancel before they actually ship. If the last releases are any indicator we can probably keep it and sell for a profit. Win win

Another version that I have on my tablet

Actual Verizon S7 Edge usage questions

I want to pick up the S7 Edge but I'm waiting to hear from you guys how it is. I've read the other forums but Verizon always screws with the phone so I wanted to make sure it wasn't laggy and the battery was just as good as the other carriers and if all the apps are there before I buy. Anyone who grabbed one from best buy or had theirs delivered yet have any real usage with it? Thanks!
I just received mine tonight so take my impressions with a grain of salt.
As I was seeing it up it got hot, like real hot, hotter than I remember my S6 ever getting which is odd given the whole liquid cooling shpeal that Samsung pitched to is. After everything was done downloading and selling in its cooled down and hasn't gotten anywhere near that hot since... But again, remember I've only had it for a few hours.
Bloat was pretty minimal compared to the S6 when I first got it but total system was just over 9 gigs of space, then add another few gigs of apps and my internal storage has already been cut in half. I have an SD card on the way so if things get too tight I'll probably end up moving some things to the SD card.
The smoothness was something I wasn't expecting. I've been very skeptical of all the reviews coming out talking about how smooth the S7E is but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Compared to my S6 it's like night and day and I don't say that lightly as a previous Nexus 6P owner as well. Over the course of the next few days I'm going to enable the GPU rendering profile to see how consistent it is and compare more to my S6 as another user here on XDA had pointed out that function that I had never seen before and now I'm going to surrender to my ocd and run that thing like crazy to keep an eye on how smooth this guy stays...or not as Samsung is known to have performance degrade over time.
Battery life is obviously something that I can't comment on yet but I'm pretty heavy handed when it comes to disabling Samsung add ons so my usage might not necessarily reflect what a normal user would experience.
So yeah, so far, after just a few hours of use I'm very happy with the phone and in awe of the difference in the fluidity between this and my old S6.
Thanks for the reply. I bought an S6 on launch day to replace my G4 which was very laggy and had subpar battery life. The S6 was awful. It was even laggier than the G4 and the battery was terrible. I gave it to my wife and then the camera stopped focusing so we got rid of it for a turbo2. I also plan on getting rid of anything Samsung that I can except Samsung pay and all Verizon bloat. I'm hoping that one day they will update it so the SD card ca n become part of the phone storage as well. If you can update tomorrow evening on battery so we can all see how it does. I saw a lot of people in the TMobile forum with 5-6 hours of screen on time which is pretty impressive for a phone without root.
Will do!
One caveat to the smoothness that I'm just now seeing is in chrome on heavy Java filled sites, it's losing some frames/stuttering a little which is a little disappointing but still nowhere near as bad as on the S6. Hopefully when the Samsung browser is updated and works on the Verizon version of the phone we'll see a better browser experience.
How do you think the smoothness compares to the 6P?
It's almost on the same level in most areas of the UI but can't handle chrome like the Nexus 6P can. Zooming in and out of maps is sort of like that too, smoother than the S6 but just not quite there like the nexus.
Thanks for all the help!
1st Charge
So I'm still on my first charge where I unplugged yesterday morning and took some screen caps at, more or less, the same time this morning. Not mind-blowing results but I imagine it will only get better after settling in for a week. The only reason I post this at all (my opinion is that any reports on battery in the first week are bogus) is because of the doze that kicked in last night which didn't even drop 1%
Edit: My screen caps didn't seem to grab my notification bar....my battery was at 36%...still need to figure out these dang fangled internetz and how to put up screenshots and such...

Chrome performance was very disappointing. I switched to lightning + and all is well. Plus the amoled mode and inverted grayscale rendering saves a ton of battery. Chrome was using 24% of battery, lightning + with these settings is only using 5%.
I am returning my Edge for a Note 5.
The edges are messing with me bad. My palms and other fingers are making inputs while holding the phone. Emails and meassges are being sent half completed, messanger chat heads are being opened/closed. Shift, backspace, and side numbers and letters being pressed. Also sometimes the number of inputs prevents additional touches. A few times i had to reposition the phone to continue typing.
I just got it yesterday and haven't purchased a case. But being a work phone, I think it's going to be a constant annoyance.
Super sexy phone otherwise.
It does seem to "freeze" occasionally. Right out of the box I was disabling apps and it locked up. Toggled the screen to refresh but its been randomly freezing occasionally. Probably a software bug. Nothing really noticeable but I've been on it constantly. Could be with the multiple inputs as stated above.
The phone is super slippery.
Bottom line, this requires a case.

I agree. I made the mistake of not getting a case first. I dropped it at work after having it less than 12 hours. I have 4 tiny tiny marks where the metal meets back glass. I would have taken it back within a couple days if not for that.

Charging port (plastic around it) - scratches

Hi guys,
I know it's no biggie and it's my OCD forcing me now to post that but that's what i've noticed upon closer inspection of my charging port.
As you hopefully can see on the photo, the plastic around the micro USB port has a couple of scratches/grooves.
Now, before you blame it on me, let me assure you that I'm very gentle with my phone and everytime i put it on charge i never force anything.
I know the plug has quite sharp edges but the plastic shouldn't be that prone to scratches, should it?
What about you guys?Have you noticed anything similar on your phones?
Thank you in advance

I didn't think to mention that most of the time I use a wireless charger, but I do plug it in sometimes. Maybe after more use I'll notice scratches, too.
Mine has 2 marks in the same spot it's just a rubber water seal.. marks are from inserting the charger they line up perfect
Same here , there are two small grooves on mine , caused by the two spring retaining locks of the micro usb
Are you serious? Jesus ocd stop it.

My only concern would be battery health. I know it gives you this ultimate convenience and all , but from what I've read wireless charging is not as efficient as the wired one. Lost energy turns into heat, and your wireless charger can get quite warm during charging. This causes stress on the battery as it sits on the mat...
And that of course , is a red flag for a craaazy guy like me[emoji12]

I started using a Qi charging puck on my LG G3. And on that phone, it generated quite a it of heat. I'm still using the same (non fast charge) puck on the S7, and it doesn't get warm enough to notice. Maybe because the S7 is designed for wireless fast charge, the lower current of the regular Qi charger isn't enough to bother it.
I'm using an older version of this one. Cheap enough to try and see. You need to use a charger with at least 1.8 amps to run this. The one that comes with the S7 works fine.

yeh my one as well but too late i discovered it. now i use wireless charger whenever possible
I know what you mean with this. I don't use USB often on mine so it doesnt have anything on it. I would recommend wireless charging. Its what I have done since day one.

I guess we'll have to either live with that or switch permanently to wireless charging...One way or another, it's time to hit the bumpy road to acceptance
What has this world come to. Can't believe I'm even replying to this thread...

Keep it that way then

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Moto G5S Plus stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
It heats too much while charging. Playing any games doesn't seem to affect it much but while charging, the battery temperature soars as high as 42-43.

Only when using it while charging.
Edit* reaches 41C while charging that's not good.

This is issue with all fast charging phones. As there is more power being used while charging these, so they will heat up more.
Here are some tips to prevent overheating on fast charging.

Just curious, why would you be worried about how hot the phone gets when charging?

Why would one not be?! Overheating can reduce battery life. In the worst case, the battery can even explode.

If the phone or the battery is faulty, maybe. Do you think your phone/battery are faulty? Or do you think that you're more familiar with how to build a phone/battery and charge it properly than the engineers at Motorola? Otherwise you're just saying "I think my phone gets hot when it charges" which isn't very useful information.

That's what I wanted to know myself. I had created a separate thread to ask whether other people's phones are also getting this much hot.

True, I'm nowhere near the experts at Motorola. However, your logic is flawed. If we go by it, there would not have been 'any' need of bug-fixes or updates. Bugs are inevitable and that's the reason developers ask for feedback and bug-reports!

Isn't it exactly what the thread is for? I provided my opnions with a screenshot. How it's being perceived is up to the reader.

To be fair, you started with "it's too hot". Anyway, I'm not here to argue! My phone has now turned up and doesn't get all that hot when charging. I'll run it down to 0% and then give it a charge and see if I can get the temperature from the phone. I just took a bunch of test photos, got back from lunch and I now seem to have at least 3 camera-related updates to install so I'll have to shoot a bunch more tomorrow. The camera is by far the worst aspect of this phone which is otherwise very nice indeed!

Yeah. Actually, I was more concerned about that 75 degree celsius because that indeed is hot. However, a friend having the same phone said that his phone never crosses 38-39 degree!
Anyway, give it a try yourself too. And yes, it's because of turbo charging only, as several people mentioned. So, you'll observe the temperature rising up after about 20-30 minutes of putting it on charging.
I also observed that the phone gets appreciably warm if the 'torch' is used while recording video. Tried it on front cam.
I'll appreciate if you too could share the screenshot of the temperature screen on CPUZ app.
Regarding camera updates, I'm not into photography. But I couldn't find any significant change after the updates.

38.5 degrees c (and the phone is in a wallet style case). I'm using the phone at the same time, surfing, listening to music and checking out a bug about audio equalisation I just posted about elsewhere on this site. voltage 4200 mv, ac charger charging (but says turbopower connected on the lock screen). It's been charging for about 20 minutes, from about 35 or 40% charge (despite using it quite a bit today the battery is taking it in its stride. this is only the second time i've charged it).
I'll post back here if it rises to a silly level today or on subsequent charges.
