Lollipop stock port for SM-T230/ Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 WiFi - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Galaxy Tab 4 is an amazing device in my opinion, and mine has survived water damage as well. But all of my other devices have Lollipop, and the Tab 4 does not. I like to make my own modifications, but I like to stay as close to OEM condition as possible. That's just what I'm used to. So I'd appreciate it if somebody could port the SM-T235 Lollipop 5.1.1 firmware to my Galaxy Tab 4, or tell me if I could flash the stock LTE firmware. Thanks.

could you make 6.0.1 for tab 4 or higher? our tab needs out of 4.4

I know, it's annoying. KitKat and Holo is good and all, but such a beautiful display deserves better (i.e. Material Design). Even the Tab 2 (I own one) has it, and it's ironic. That's why I'm starting work on an AOSP Marshmallow ROM (Nougat or Oreo if possible but no promises) for the SM-T230/NU. I don't have an LTE Tab, but I can do it for the Wi-Fi one. It'll take time, though. My laptop has low-spec hardware and is problematic, and doing stuff on it is annoying. That's why I was wondering about the Lollipop port in the first place, because I need this tablet more than ever.

I have a Tab 2 7.0 wifi (GT-P3113), Tab 4 7.0 wifi (SM-T230NU), and Nook HD (BNTV400).
I use UNOFFICIAL LineageOS 14.1 on Nook, stock (ROMs I make) for Tab 4.
My Nook is my main device.... I use Tab 2 sometimes, but mostly I update that to the weekly LineageOS 13 build. Tab 4, I only use if I don't have any other Android device (goes for any device to use). I also make ROMs for Tab 4 like CM 11 based ROM. That is my main goal, then I will try Mokee 4.4.4 for Tab 4 (no promises if it works). I heard you need 500+ GB Hard Drive, and 8 GB minium (that's if you want it to go slow for 8), and Ubuntu. But you can use Google Cloud. But that requires for you to add a credit card or a bank account. Could I see your GitHub for the AOSP Tab 4? And could I try it when it is done compiling? Thanks.

My laptop does have a 500gb hard drive, but it only has 4GB RAM. I'm syncing the Android source using UoW, but it's taking long, because of the code size. I have a Motorola Moto G, which is essentially a multimedia device, a Tab 2 with IR (spare tablet) and the Tab 4 is my daily driver. I haven't set up the GitHub yet, so I'll PM you when I do. This is my first project for XDA, so be patient. ☺

Xoom ICS images soon to be available

Just saw this mail from JBQ on 'Android Building' groups:
I'm pushing the source code for Android 4.0.3 to AOSP. This matches
build IML74K. Kernel sources will follow as soon as practical.
Over the years, I've released 50 different versions of Android in
AOSP, not counting the SDK and CTS, and I think that this is the best
release ever.
Some noteworthy items:
-This version of Android is optimized for a wide range of devices. It
works on phones. It works on tablets. It works on devices that don't
quite have the horsepower of a Galaxy Nexus.
-From a straight AOSP, it works on Galaxy Nexus (the ones sold with
mysid and yakju builds), on Motorola Xoom (US variants), and on Nexus
S (all variants). Proprietary binaries will soon be available for
those devices at the usual location.
-Out of the box, this is the first time that AOSP works on 3 different
device families, the first time that it works on tablets, the first
time that it works directly on a device that's neither an ADP nor a
Nexus, and the first time that it works on Verizon devices.

Could we expect ICS images for the Xoom soon ?
Unfortunately I'm unable to post a link to that google group page - You can check out the 'The source code for Android 4.0.3 is now available' email thread in the 'Android Building' google groups.
You can't but I can
http://groups.google.com/group/android-building/msg/d73844b1c48f07bb
Sent from my GT-I9100 using CyanogenMod7
Does this mean we could literally put ICS on the xoom now, or is there still a step to take to get a working image?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
JBQ just posted another email in the same thread releasing the proprietary binaries for the drivers, as well as the android-4.0.3_r1 for the AOSP git sources.
So I assume, if you build the AOSP sources with these binaries extracted in the right place, you'd be able to compile an image that would work on the Xoom.
I'm gonna try that tonight
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-building/mjEzwvc_J4k
"Below are the direct links to the various proprietary binaries. The
web page will update in the next few hours."
how long does it take to compile from AOSP again?
EDIT: and no this is not a request for a ETA
Lol, if I knew how to do this, aosp for xoom would be released in as long ad it takes to compile it and make it flashable.
Is anyone who is able, willing to do this for us not in the know? Please!?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I think CyanogenMOD takes about 40 mins on a modern computer to build based on something I read. This will vary widely based on your CPU performance obviously. But this is probably a good ballpark: over 30 mins for a full build I'd say based on what I've read.

He said the xoom camera doesn't work =(
I think it was something like 4 hours on a 2x quad-core machine with 16 GB of RAM. Can't be bothered to look up the source now.
I'm compiling it now on my dual-Xeon W5687 machine w/72 GB of RAM.
This guide is pretty good: http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/compile-ics
Follow the instructions for the Nexus and when you get to "lunch" this page will help:
http://source.android.com/source/building.html
3G/4G users want "full_stingray-userdebug".
Wi-Fi users want "full_wingray-userdebug".
New: Apparently you have to download the binaries and do a make clobber before you do a make according to this page: http://source.android.com/source/building-devices.html. Time to recompile
Note that is required that you use Ubuntu x64 (I'm currently using 10.04.3 LTS)

Yeah, not a huge deal for me, but if we get ICS on the xoom, the speed and stability by itself is worth it!
am I correct in assuming that the camera and HDMI will eventually be fixed? We aren't talking permanent incompatibilities, are we?

These are most likely things that Motorola will have to handle themselves (especially the Camera).
Surprised by the lack of HDMI support however, I would have expected that part to be handled by the Tegra2-related bins. But not a big deal for me either.

That's what I figured, just thought it was odd that the AOSP is released "officially supporting" Xoom, and the camera and HDMI out don't work... Or, is it just a generic tablet AOSP build and only some of the drivers or something...?

Info, I wanna buy this tablet

Hi,
I want to buy a new tablet 10 inch and this note seems perfect for me since I study at the university. But I have some doubt:
1. I read that the version with snapdragon works best, but for me it would be fine also Wi-Fi only version, do not ever insert the card, it's worth it to spend at least 100 € extra just to get the better processor?
2. In the reviews I've seen with Android 4.3, the lag is not missing at all, the situation has improved with the upgrade to Kitkat? Also do you think will be upgraded to Lollipop?
3. I would need to connect it to the TV with HDMI, what kind of connection you can do with this tablet?
Thank you all in advance!
@Murtagh92 Mate I wouldn't buy this just yet ... there is a new Note 10.1 2015 in the works ... My guess would be in a couple of months it will get announced. It will have typical better Processor and screen and the WiFi version will probably the same as the 2014 LTE.
1. I would just be patient if possible - If you need it asap then the WiFi Note 10.1 2014 is fast enough I believe and pretty cheap at the min.
2. Yeah I am 100% positive the Note 2014 will get Lollipop although it will be a bit of a wait LOL. But I find KitKat prettt fast.
3. This adaptor will do the trick ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=viglink20238-20
Thank you, very kind.
I'm participating in an auction. It's a lte version, buyed in january with 2 years of warranty, original cover and 64 microsd, I will offer up to 350, otherwise I will expect the 2015 version.
Yes please don't buy the note 10.1 2014.. Lags like crazy, touch screen is soo unresponsive, cheap feel(doesn't feel like $550), but performance wise its king..
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA Free mobile app
I have the Tmobile version and it works great. No lag. Haven't had any problems with it. The only things I don't like are the placement of the charging port and the auto brightness function which must be a Samsung tablet issue cause it works fine on the Sasung phones I have. By issue, I mean that with auto brightness checked, the screen is really dim even in very bright light so I just adjust it manually.
I think I will wait 2015 edition. Unless I find a good deal for the lte version.
I will sell you mine...if interested. Pm me if you want.

Chromecast works perfectly with this table. Plug it into your hdmi port of your tv. You do need to be on the same wifi network. I use it all the time.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my tablet so far. With the aid of some talented developers, this tablet has picked up quite a bit of speed and stability! And currently on TigerDirect it's going to $400

Ive had mine about 8 months and it's been fantastic.
Little bit of menu lag before kit kat but now its 100%.
Love the official flip case with it also and a big sd card.
I bought a P605! It's fantastic! Now I am not sure if I need to make root or change rom.
Just root will do. With kitkat u will have 2.7gb ram 400mb more ram than the 4.3.
with root u can use app like greenify and tb to remofe craps. I have successfully rooted by flashing nee kernel and then towel root and then flash back my curre kernel which is cnj1 without tripping knox or void my holy warranty.
2014 edition rocks.
U wait and get 2015 edition, you will pay alot more. Hv had mine for a month now w kitkat wifi edition 2014 and thoroughly enjoy it....But one thing to note(get it?) with samsung is that they cannot keep their devices up to date at the same rate as their development...so anything in the past gets left behind. Example: 4.4.4 kitkat update is here for tmobile but not wifi edition which is samsung only.

[Q]Looking to buy a galaxy tab 4

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a galaxy tab 4 tablet or something similar for under $150 if there's better options out there. I'm basically looking for something I can root, flash and just tinker around with. I noticed there's a bunch of different model numbers, is there any models that cannot be rooted? If i go out and buy a brand new one will I be able to root it?
I bought the tablet for my son. I have a sony tablet z2 and i am surprised that the tab works very well. I thought that it would stutter,...but it is very good beginers tablet. I have bought him SM-T533 10.1 WI-fi model which has a new 64bit snapdragon 410 SOC version...despite the low PPI on tablet the display is nice and also the battery is powerful. As for rooting i think you could easily root it...but since it is working very well why would you like to root it for. buy it and enjoy

SM-T530 (Wi-Fi only), SM-T530NU (Wi-Fi only, IR blaster), SM-T535 (4G) for the 10.1 inch series, SM-T330 (Wi-Fi only), SM-T330NU (Wi-Fi only, IR blaster) for the 8.0 series. Those are the ones with real custom rom support. Cyanogenmod 12.1 on this tablet is very nice, especially blisspop. Most models can be rooted, but AFAIK the SM-T533 cannot be rooted.
I remember reading that the SM-T533 (10.1), SM-T333 (8.0), and SM-T233 (7.0) can't be rooted yet. Some of the AT&T and Verizon branded models (SM-T537A, SM-T337A, SM-T537V, SM-T337V) can't be rooted because of the locked bootloader and there's no chance for roms on any of them IMO.
Oh, a guide to the model numbers: they're all SM-T###. The first # is either 2, 3, or 5. Any model number where that first number is 2 is a 7.0 inch, 3 is an 8.0, and 5 is 10.1. The second number is always 3, don't worry about it so much. The last number can be several numbers: if it's 0 it's a Wi-Fi only model, 1 is a 3G model, and 5 and 7 are 4G models. So: SM-T231 is a 7.0 3G, SM-T335 is an 8.0 4G, etc.

If you're looking for a travel friendly model go for the sm-t330nu galaxy tab 4 8.0
mostly the same as the sm-t530nu
easily mod-able and many/most rom builds for sm-t530/nu can be ported to sm-t330nu with a kernel build and some
correction of proprietary binaries and libraries, usually sound.
also you can set up a chrooted distro on external sdcard and run at terminal, this comes is very handy for kernel builds
and similar smaller projects, especially for projects that encounter issues when attempting a cross-compile for arm.
As long as you have the chrooted distro established correctly, including the kernel headers for your tab model installed
in the right place, you can achieve native compiles for the tab on the tab.
I have the sm-t530nu and the sm-t330nu and both are set-up the same in that regard, very handy.

You can use an usb slim-port adapter. The slimport from Monoprice does work but one may also need to connect a power adapter to the adapter as some adapters need more power than supplied from the tablet else the battery could also run down very fast.
I have the pad 2 10.1 wifi & have used the Amazon slimport adapter for their Fire 8.9 4th gen to display on the TV. You can do miracast/*cast but the sound quality is much worst & quite noticeable.

How to upgrade to Marshmallow on LG V930 ?
I just received an LG V930 (LG G Pad X 10.1) off eBay. It was advertised as locked to AT&T, and has AT&T's bloatware. However:
- AT&T Device Unlock Request page does not recognize it as an AT&T device! I am trying to get around this via a 3rd-party unlock service.
- The tablet is running Android 5.1.1, Kernel 3.4.0, Build LMY47V, Version V93010d. But it does not update any further--it claims to be up to date already. How do I upgrade it to Android 6.0 ? Is it possible that the tablet is forcing me to wait 24 hours (after initialization) before Software Update will work?

An administrator on AT&T's Community Forum asserts that the tablet will not update unless it has an AT&T SIM card. I actually tried that, but the SIM card was pre-used; I got a message that it was "not provisioned", and the tablet would not update.

I just set up the Samsung Kids Mode app on our family's tablets and it works quite well. If it's not preinstalled it should be in the Galaxy Apps store. It disables IAP, allows access to only certain apps, lets you set time limits and so forth.

BTW, T530 is a Tab 4 10.1 not a Tab A. 5.0.2 is the latest OS for T530. I had one and sold it to upgrade to the Tab E 9.6 T560NU, which I then sold to upgrade to the Tab A 10.1 T580. I modded all of them, mostly to get rid of Knox and other unnecessary apps.
If you do indeed have the Tab 4 you would be better off looking in the Tab 4 section.

Oh, that must be the T350 which is the Tab A 8.0. My wife has that tablet and I installed the Kids Mode app on it today.
Android 6.0.1 is the latest OS for that but it looks like Nougat is coming any day now.
