Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (SM-P580) - Folio case without magnets? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hey everyone, I am curious if anyone knows of a folio-style case for the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (SM-P580) that does not use magnets to keep the folio closed. I've read reports that magnets in cases interfere with the sensor used for the active stylus, which causes distortion; this is something I'd like to avoid, but I'd also like a folio-style case to protect the tablet while in use and while being stored during travel.
I'm open to other solutions as well, however I'd prefer to not have to use a screen protector with a case to keep the screen protected while the tablet is not being used. I'm not too concerned about screen protection during use, as I'm careful with my electronics.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Noob smartphone owner, many questions...HELP!

hi guys,
I've been using hard-keyboard phones for the last 10 years or so. I've now got a Samsung galaxy s2 with Orange and i have a few problems which I'm hoping you guys can help me with.
1. The touch screen is extremely sensitive, so is there a way of reducing this?
2. Can you recommend a case/cover:-
a. which is not too expensive
b. can also protect the actual touch screen
c. makes the phone more thicker and easier to hold
Thank You
1. That's the point.
2. Check the accesories subforum. I've got a 2$ TPU case + screen protector. It's enough if you don't drop it
thanks TheSaw.
Even if it is made to be sensitive, not every person is the same, so surely just like people want a screen to be more sensitive, you'll get people wanting a screen to be less sensitive?
The accessories subforum is for USA and i live in the UK..any names or recommendations?
Yeah this should be in the Q&A or accessories sub forums really.. But regardless, Check Ebay for the Wave case.. comes in a range of colours, is sturdy and robust, makes the phone just a bit more bulky and substantial in the hand and is also ridged in quite a good way for a secure grip. Normally comes with a free screen protector too- the one I got with mine fits well and has endured since the phone's release date - I keep it in my pocket so expected to have to replace it before now.
Applying a screen protector will also reduce sensitivity although the decrease may be negligible... but if you can find a super-cheap nasty one I'm sure it will decrease performance more notably.
You could see if this thread helps.

thank you very much for your advice guys.
@ propergood - i love the wave case...its cheap and seems to do the job...main issue is scratch to screen or phone. as you can understand, a person whom has used a hard-keyboard phone for years, its way too sensitive, so i think i'd be okay with less sensitive. If i bought 2 screen protectors, could i double them by sticking one on top of the other, to make it more thicker, i.e. less sensitive?
@ aceofclubs - that app simply calibrates the screen, right? If so, then i'm not looking for that...i'm wanting an app which allows me to adjust how sensitive the screen response should be...is there such an app?
Also guys, if i rooted my samsung s2, would i be able to backup my original Orange/Samsung FW? And would Orange find out? I don't want to void the warranty.
I think it's underestimated how resilient these phones are to be honest...
While it probably would further reduce sensitivity I wouldn't advise trying to double layer screen protectors... at least not without limitless patience and about 10 protectors to try/retry with.
The bezel around the wave case does enough for me to keep the screen off surfaces when laid face down.. If you want full front coverage you'd need to get a flip style case or holster, which personally I find to be impractical, and my feeling is that these type of cases don't really provide full protection from direct pinpoint pressure on the screen area anyway. (I had a hard holster for my old blackberry, screen cracked anyway as I leaned over a rail a bit too hard...)
If you happen to want a belt clip type thing though this looks an interesting alternative...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RUBBERIZE...Accessories&hash=item519b9751f4#ht_5575wt_943
the belt clip case is great, but its not protect the front screen and when i say protecting, i mean from scratches or pressure.
so i assume you also have an s2? if so, then what app do you use to secure the phone? i want to do online banking and want a safe protection...i.e. it should be extremely hard for someone to break into the phone if they get hold of it.

A warning to any Note owners

I don't often post here, and and I don't know if this issue has been addressed before, but but I'd like to tell you about my experience with the note:
I received the phone just today, and after bying it online.. All was good, and I already had a case (a faux-leather flip case), waiting, and and put it in immediately. After playing with it for a few hours, and I noticed that there was a dead spot on the screen. But only when using the s-pen, and a few hasty emails and a phone call to Kogan (off whom I bought the phone), revealed that this was a inhear-of-before phenomenon. As of writing, I've yet to receive word whethery they'll accept a return.
However, that would be rather pointless, and since I have since fixed the issue. It seems that the magnet holding the case flap closed was pretty powerful, powerful enough, in fact, to cause the active digitizer to stop working on that of the phone that the magnet was under. After I removed the case the s-pen worked in the spot, as well as the rest of the screen.
So be warned, test your cases if you can before you buy them, especially if they have a magnetic clasp or similar.
(sorry for the prose)
I have been avoiding magnets because of several posts on the subject. There have also been several stating there are no issues.
I prefer to remain safe, and I am grateful for your advice. Magnets near a device relying on magnetic resonance are probably not a good idea. Better safe than sorry IMO.
Strange how some people have this problem. My note has been sitting in a magnet case for 4 months now with no such problems. I guess it depends on the case and how strong the magnet is but I could not do without my case so I will carry on using it for now.

I think it also depends on where the magnet is. Mine was on the back, directly behind the device.

I agree. More testing, and definitely more information from Samsung, is required.
I wonder if it is the TYPE of magnet, not so much the size.
If it is one of those cheap magnets, maybe it won't bother it
as much as the stronger neodymium magnets?
thanks
thanks man.. for sharing this..
I also have avoided the magnet cases due to this fact and have been trying to find cases that use some other alternate means for closure, like maybe velcro instead. I was also even considering that Sweet Case made out of aluminum, but at ~$70, it is rather pricey. I have just been going case less and totally naked with it and so far no problems.
IIRC there is a comment about magnetic fields in the manual...
similarly too, there is a comment about electrostatic fields, so if you are in an environment where sparks fly off your fingertips at intervals be SURE to discharge yourself before touching your SGN.. you may kill the touch response of the screen..
been there, did that, luckily it was a $50 C/H digital thermostat.
EDIT: 2 April 3:00pm
found it: Page 25 of the GT-N7000 Quick start guide states
"Do not store your device near magnetic fields"; and inclusively states "Do not use carrying cases or accessories with magnetic closures"
Man, I guess I have to quit being a Dark Sith Lord. But I have so much fun using Force Lightning to kill all those annoying Jedi do-gooders
I have a Tridea case with a magnet. The magnet is in the part that locks the cover to the back of the phone.
If I fold that piece behind the phone, there is some influence from the magnet. The influence disappears if I leave some space between the magnet and the back of the phone.
It is only a small problem for me, and only noticeable when I play Draw something or similar apps.

magnets, how do they work??
I have the same issue, I strapped a powermat charging coil to the inside of my casemate tough case, the result is a dead spot directly above the magnet in terms of the spen.
My dilemma is whether to forgo use of the s-pen for the ease of wireless charging.
For the moment as I rarely use the s-pen, the inductive charging coil is staying in place.
The s-pen works as soon as the powermat coil is removed but I'm not sure if it could do lasting damage?

That, my friend, is one of the great unanswered questions of the universe. Gravity is another one. We know what goes on, but not always how. It is mostly at the atomic level, although you have to look into the quantum level to find out more. One day we may figure it out!
Thanks for the warning! I doesn't use a case with magnets, but it's always good to know if I ever would.

Signed up to say thanks OP. I too had this situation where i had dramatic penmark deviation on my note. I use notebook style case w/ magnet
I was considering getting it swapped under warranty but then realised the odd behaviour happened in s-memo but not in canvas/paint app. Now i know its the location of the rear magnet on my case. gj op

[Q] Magnetic flip cover interference?

I read in the Note 2 forum that using flip covers that come with magnetic flaps interferes with the s-pen, gps.. Are they still present in the Note 3? I found a nice flip cover for Note3 but it comes with a magnetic flap. Having second thoughts about buying it because of the interference issues. Thanks for sharing your inputs about this.

You are correct. There is some type of interference where the magnetic field causes the screen not to recognize input in some areas. I just got a plastic and leather flip case with a button style snap.
Hope this helps!
Nice to know that the magnet causes interference. Will have to check out other flip covers for my Note 2.. Thanks a lot!

Well let me just input my two cents worth. I have a leather belt pouch with a magnetic button and I have not experienced any problem what so ever. On the other hand I place my phone with the screen facing my body.

I hope I didn't confuse you with my post.. I was talking about "flip cover that comes with magnetic flaps"... You're using "leather belt pouch with a magnetic button", is that the same as "flip cover with magnetic flaps"? Please correct me if I'm wrong, coz what I understand by "leather belt pouch" is it's strap in your waist and that's where you place your Note 3. But is the Note3 "attached" to your leather belt pouch or just place inside the pouch when your not using it? When you are using your Note3, do you still use it while inside your leather belt pouch or do you take it out from the pouch? Thanks for your input as it will greatly help us decide what case/protection we should choose for our Note 3..

YT-X703F Lenovo yoga tab 3 plus screen protector and case?? Where or how to search

Hey, i am about to buy myself this tablet, the lenovo yoga tab 3 plus LTE
and while i wait for it to arrive i wanna buy screen protector and cases from ebay, but if i spesific search for YT-X703F there is almost no options so are there any screen differense or layout in lenovo yoga pro and so on?
This will be my first lenovo so i dont know the differrence if anyone is different but is someone could help me out by say the search term i need to use to get the proper glass protector and case i will be very happy..
Im sure there are common search terms for this as well, but as told i am not very familiar With lenovo.
Also, im getting this as a replacement for my Nvidia Shield, im not mush of a gamer but im a total media whore and i like to watch Things in 4K and i also fly some drones that film in 4K so this will be why i spesific og for this tablet of course also since its Budget friendly when compared to other brands..
many thanks!
I just searched Yoga Tab 3 Plus on eBay and other sites and it comes up with plenty of results. I ordered a tempered glass protector and a rubber case. There seems to be two types of cases, the standard book style with a cutout on the back for the kickstand, and a non-flip rubber style case.
I bought some different cases but im not comfortable with any due to the metal stand makes all cases unuseful and flimsy. Just had a leather pouch i stick it in when I'm done.
The screen protector i bought that was made from glass. Very good.
Which cases did you get? Can you take some pics or links to the ones you got?
That might help some of us know which cases to avoid
Thank you
Just avoid them all. Buy a pouch or something. Due to the metal flip all cases will feel flimsy with that extra screen protector that flips over. And its unbearable to use the tablet with that extra dangling around in the back making it very uncomfortable to use.
Yeah that's what I suspected, its a shame. There is this third style I was looking at as well - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0197QBAEM/
It's the Moko case, but no cutout, more like a traditional case. Instead the kickstand rests on the inside of the case.
Have something like this also. You're gonna get irritated of the leather covering the edges of the screen.
Its a no go.
Have also one with plastic edges that it snaps into but that also is not good to use.
Posting picture of my pouch soon
Get something like this. Its so much more convenient.
Hello,
I've been searching endlessly where to buy the Lenovo X703F LTE
Pls where did you get yours?
Bought mine at a electronic shop in Norway. Elkjop.no i payed about 3400 NOK
Hi, I know this thread is a little old (and yet still top thread in this subforum!) so I thought I would update this. I just bought a Yoga Tab 3 Plus and have still to find a case that stays always on the tablet.
In the meantime I am using the Mosiso iPad Pro 10.5 Case Sleeve (I bought mine on Amazon Canada - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B074N3SDPD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) which fits the tablet perfectly and feels quite secure. I try and just hold onto the thing when it is out of the case, though I am sure I will drop it eventually.
I am using one of the cheapest 9H screen protectors I could find on eBay (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Premium-9H-T...var=660813795911&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649) and it fits perfectly! Like a good planner, I bought two - and immediately ruined the first one. The second one turned out much better.
Do not buy the Moko flip case, it sucks.
Hi, I'm still looking for a tpu/silicon back case for my tab 3 8 plus (aka Lenovo P8). But it seems really hard to find something useful...

Alternative Stylus?

Has anyone found a fully functional alternative stylus? The included Realpen feels like a $0.50 toy and does not include any buttons or an eraser tip. I've tried two alternative styli, a Toshiba tablet PC model and a Samsung Note stylus. These both work fine on the drawing pad, but do not work using the "Anypen" feature on the screen. Is there a stylus out there that works on the screen and drawing pad?
Also looking for an alternative. Only found some for the digitizer, not for the screen.
Good Stylus
Hey,
I found a review on couple of different stylus. Just Google Lenovo Yoga Book Stylus Pen. By Arthur Walker. It is a Tumblr link. He goes in full details with his experience on different stylus
I actually went out of my way and bought the one he suggested which was Lenovo Tablet 10 4X80F22107. I purchased it on NewEgg for $107 CAD. (Might be cheaper in US)
I have been using the stylus for a year.
So far, I feel its a lot better than the Real Pen. It is a lot lighter and feels like a real pencil because it uses two times more in pressure sensitivity than the Real Pen. The stylus is not too big or heavy as I can be taking notes up to two hours. It comes with two side buttons, and an eraser button that I actually use as an eraser when I'm taking notes.
Only down side of it so far is the nib is made of plastic. I notice that the nib appears to be wearing out the more I use.
If you have some money to spare and want to feel more comfortable
ruanw92,
Does the Tablet 10 stylus work on both the touchscreen and the keyboard area?
Anyone found replacements? Cause i don't know how but the point of my pen broke off (this is unacceptable) I only have 3 ink pens now. Might check the Lenovo Tablet 10 4X80F22107.
take a Samsung Note 4 Stylus, its selling for under $5

The Note Pen have replaceable pointers, are they compatible with the yoga pen ?
the galaxy note pen is much smaller and also the pointer. I use it for write directly on the keyboard surface and when i write on paper I take the yoga pen, and so I don't have to change the pointer of the yoga pen. BTW the note 4 pen only writes on the keyboard surface, not on the display
stylus from the galaxy tab works perfectly on yoga tablet
