Photo quality - Asus ZenFone 4 Max Real Life Review

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Asus ZenFone 4 Max come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Adequate, but not great. HDR helps.

missing some additional camera modes. plus the photo quality, even when set to hdr or pro, has a lot of noise in it.
hoping for a software update fix.

Nah. The photo quality sucks. Thought it decent b4 bought this. Now discover it has lot of noise and it can compare with $50 phone. My mistake

After updating to latest firmware, the picture quality is decent, some noise in corner but not disturbing, the saturation is good, the detail is good but the dynamic range just a little improve. It was shot in evening, low light, wide angle lens. Over all is good, not expect more than this.

The main purpose of its 1/5" sensor is clarity, sharpness and outdoor photo, so for the best result, we can get pretty decent picture from this wide angle lens if we shoot object on outdoor, like this.
Note : the barrel is strong in corner, even for 12mm fl.
---------- Post added at 03:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:23 PM ----------
The noise start appear in low light condition or indoor use, but the color seems vivid, although the dynamic range is not as good as outdoor shot. You still can capture some nice picture with its super wide lense but not recommended for fast shot because the shutter speed start lowering itself and boost iso in order to record more light in sensor, it is likely because the sensor size of wide angle lens is tinny.

Why would you need to adjust it?

On my calibrated desktop 27" pc display, I see 9 if I try really hard with my nose in the screen. On my note 4, I see 11.
(I'm a digital artist, and use my desktop for 3d graphics content creation.)
Considering the display of the image on my note is 1/2 the the size of it on my pc monitor, I think that's pretty good.
(I also have my note set on the more vibrant video settings)
Typically you only get gamma access (if you can even get it) with root.
My nexus 7 2013 with root JUST got gamma adjustment tools 2 or 3 months ago, and it's going on 18 months old.
---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 PM ----------
Using this gamma adjustment test, my note looks near perfect.
Did you tried in a dark room? if yes, your monitor is bad.
Then why does the second gamma test pattern work perfectly?
Never try only one gamma test pattern.

Any news? Youtube is quite unusable in dark scenes. Note 3 is way better.

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Huawei Mate 10's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

You are looking at the pics on the small screens. That's why more light for u looks better. Zoom in or transfer to computer and check the noise reduction and sharpness... Mate 10 is better

lol it sounds like you are having issues. mate 10 cam is much better than s7 cam, objectively. s7 is nowhere close to mate 10.
I just started an youtube channel focused on camera test and reviews, and my first upload is a low light test between my 2 phones: Galaxy S9 and Mate 10 Pro. I will sell one of the phones to keep new ones comming for new reviews. So wich one would you choose? (daylight review comming soon)

very rich. too rich.. could be toned down a bit.. look more raw and more natural.. the images looks like a stereo type of beautifying plus make p at time.. can be adjjusted in edit. but picture to picture. cuold change.
So far so good, I am impress with it output, it probably not the best but it is very great output for rear camera. As for the selfie wise it is very well done, absolutely stunning.
Here some sample photos I take recently..

i agree! It's disappointing!
Too much saturation, too much light caught in the scene and a few seconds later too less light.
In low light situation also bad results.
I can't believe that, i saw many hands on but pictures was always good.
Could be a problem of EU's ROM?
I hope they'll fix it with an update.
Have been using this for almost 9months now and, camera quality is aweful when using Snapchat and WhatsApp. I've had a OnePlus 5T, and still use a blackberry keytwo as my 2nd phone, and they are much much better! Only good thing about this phone is the aesthetic appeal, mainly due to the screen ratio.
Awesome

The Gcam photos on all 3 rear lenses are far sharper than what the LG software can produce, almost like a different phone. The wide camera pictures from LG software when you zoom in is blurry and like an oil painting effect. The Gcam reveals far more detail and sharpness.
Anyone else feel the same?
Which Gcam version are you using? I don't notice much difference unless I'm using the Night Sight feature.
