Device not showing on adb devices - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I'm trying to root my LG v20 and it looks like I'm already stuck on the first step... When I run adb devices nothing happens
I have usb debugger on
EDIT: all drivers are updated, tried on multiple devices and none would connect

People come here all the time asking that.... the short answer is "you're patched." You accepted the April update and it patched your phone. You cannot root. Sorry. I had this happen to me on a previous device. Like if you buy your phone in the store, you need to take it from the hands of the sales person and tell them that you prefer to do all the setup yourself, because they are going to try to apply the update. "ok you're all set, I even checked for and applied all updates for you!!" yaaaay you ****ing piece of ****. Anyway what I remember noticing right away is that my phone would not be seen by ADB just like you're saying. Again sorry man.
Also, when you come asking questions like that you'll need to be more specific.... like do you have Att? Sprint? Verison?
Go Check your Phone. Go to About Phone > Software Info > Software Version > as for the ATT version you have to be on "H91010l" I already had this happen to me and I ended up having the phone stolen so I called asurion and cashed in my insurance for a new phone. As of 1 month ago they are still sending phones out with the old software. I can attest to this. If your ATT phone says H91010m you're patched.
So what you CAN do..... report your phone stolen.... pay the insurance deductible (mine is 250 dollars!!!! holy ****! But I guess they give you a 50% discount if you have not had an insurance claim in like a year or something, so best of to you!) They ARE in fact sending the replacement phones out with old software. If you do choose to do this, you need to disable automatic updates first off (this WONT actually stop them from forcing the update but do it anyway). Enable Developer Options > inside there you can disable automatic updates. This should give you some time. Once you ARE rooted they will keep trying to send you the update file anyway. When that happens you have to boot into recovery and clear the delvik and cache and then when you reboot, if it was saying "phone will reboot to install update" before, now it will say "update corrupted." This lasted me about a month and then they did it again.

Actually when I got it was still on the December update, and I eventually got it to work. All I had to do was install LG Drivers.
I actually got far into the rooting process until I flashed superSU and it all went South. Fortanetly I just got back from the AT&T Store with a new one from the warranty, thank God and **** rooting.

OTA updates on AT&T

Hello this is my first post. Just wanted to say hi.
Well I have an unlocked G1 running on AT&T and I was wondering how are we suppose to get updates if they are OTA and I assume you would need t-mobile for that.
Is there a way to manually do it? Is there someway to download it directly to the phone from a source?
Thanks alot.
I sure wish I had that t-mobile SIM that I had. I assume it wont work if it is canceled right?
I have a feeling people who have them unlocked are going to get screwed and have security holes up the wazzoo...
i have talked to tmobile multiple times about this. no one seems to know the answer. I have a t-mobile sim card in my phone right now just to see if it will update. the card is the one that came with the phone, show it shows the t-mobile service, it just will not let me call or anything. I am hoping that it will update this way then I can put my att card back in. I will probably leave the t-mobile in every night while I sleep and the phone charges just to see if it will actually work. I will keep you guys posted as to if it works or not.
I have yet to get my OTA update and I am on T-mobile. I was going to unlock my phone, and I have a question. Does your G1 work ok with data on AT&T market and all? plz let me know I have someone that is tempted to buy one at full retail and just take mine after I have it unlocked.
Thanks
it would seem to me that legally, they have to provide the patch at some point due to the GPL... it also must be provided free of charge..
when they offer it is a different story, but legally, anyone who has it, who share it (if they knew where it was cached) with no legal issues
Only Google doesn't use the GPL.
But yes, that's true. The source for everything that's free-and-open (we know there are parts of the OS that aren't) should be made available. Whether or not (and/or when) they offer the update as a binary is anybody's guess, like most things with the G1/Android.
maybe the evil FSF will get involved!?

The info is also posted on this forum/site under the development area... sorry I don't have a link handy.

did we ever find out if OTA updates get pushed to G1's on other carriers automatically?
The will be pushed to all G1's on a data connection. I repeat ALL G1's on a DATA connection.
I am on AT&T and just got the OTA update yesterday morning. I found this instruction on the internet (could have been sticky from this site) on how to get OTA update the original way.
I download Anycut from app store, create a shortcut for Device info, scroll all the way down and click on download button. Your G1 will call home and it'll appears that nothing else is happening on the screen.
I did this around 9pm Sunday morning, leave my wifi on, phone plugged in for charging and when I woke up my G1 greeted me with new firmware update screen (RC30).
Few issues that I found:
Home and call button are not responding (nothing happen when pressed) and I had to do a system restore to fix it. G1 security screen stop working even after turning security on and off - system restore fixed this. The Built in IM stop working when trying to connect via AT&T Edge, it complain that IM program can't read my phone number off SIM card - WIFI + IM client works without any problems.

Noting that those are are all symptoms of a Setup Wizard call that ended badly somehow.
The guy who discovered this first:
http://inportb.com/2008/11/28/disabling-the-screen-lock-on-android/
I discovered it accidentally, by playing with Any Cut a little bit too much. Heh.
Ah... I see my experience with Setup Wizard funkiness is not an isolated case. At any rate, I did not have to perform a factory reset, as re-running Setup Wizard resolved the issue.

[Q] updated to 4.3, now Sprint ID wont leave me alone

Hello all, my family all just got new phones. Both my mom and dad got the S4. I activated my dad's phone with no problems and everything is running great. It did not get the OTA update so it is still on 4.2.2. My mom's phone on the other hand has some issues. Right after activating and running initial stuff, I got the OTA update message, and decided to update that phone. it downloaded, rebooted, installed, and rebooted again. It seemed everything went fine.
Upon further setting up her phone, I noticed that there would be a notification about Sprint ID downloading a "Default ID" pack, and it trying to install it. But it would fail every time. Any changes to the internet connection (going from 3g to wifi or vice versa) would trigger Sprint ID to start up over again and download and fail to install. This kind of gets annoying after a while. Since my mom's phone is not rooted, I can not freeze or uninstall the Sprint ID apk. Force closing it does not help, because it starts up again when changing internet. I spent a good 30 minutes with the Sprint Chat online with no help. Even factory resetting does not fix the problem. Sprint could not help, and forwarded me to a Samsung chat person online. After 20 minutes with that person, they said that they went through all troubleshooting steps and could not help and asked me to call their hotline (which is open on Monday).
The odd thing is, according to Sprint's website, Sprint ID isn't supported on the S4, and my dad's S4 with 4.2.2 does not have it. could the 4.3 update have accidentally added Sprint ID? Is there any way to remove Sprint ID without root? Or root with 4.3, and somehow flash back to stock 4.2.2 without messing with knox? I can try going to the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can do anything, but I would rather try alternatives first.
on the phone that's already taken the 4.3 update you cannot go back to stock 4.2.
You can however root. Then install titanium and freeze the 'sprint installer' and sprint id applications.
Just wait 'till tomorrow do not take any risks because it's your mother's phone and she wont need root. Service will flash a rom to it hope it will fix it. Have a good day

Yes, take it to Sprint and have them fix it. You did nothing wrong so it shouldn't be upu problem.

So I went to the Sprint store today, to see if I can get my mom's phone fixed. According to the technician, there is nothing they can do until Sprint pushes an update to fix this problem. The technician tried fixing a previous customers phone with the same problem, and came to this conclusion. He even said switching out the phone wont help because eventually the 4.3 update will push to that one and might glitch like this phone. I guess I will hold back on updating my dad's phone when he gets his OTA.
I have temporarily fixed the notification by turning off notifications for Sprint ID, so it wont keep on popping up, but I do not know if it will try to download in the background or not.
I heard Sprint was going to push an update to fix the Knox notification showing up when switching to wifi on the S4 and Note 3, and hope they might attach a fix to this in the update.

I just received a replacement phone that is having the same issue, and it's on 4.2.2 - has not received ota update notice. In addition, the CF Root Procedure which seems to work for most everyone is not rooting my phone.

[Q] Verzion 900V probelm

I purchased a S5 G 900V (Verizon) on the 15th (of May) after my last phone died (Razr)... 2 months after the insurance expired of course. The S5 seemed to work fine for the first 3 days and like most I was setting it all up (w/exception of a few root only apps since the verzion phone is locked up).
This last Tuesday late afternoon the phone wouldn't turn on so I did a battery pull and when it booted up it had an unlocked icon (lock that was unlocked) display on the device and the word "custom" displayed under the open lock. The phone would go to sleep and not wake up without a battery pull each time. Device status under the settings area was also the word "custom". I had purchased the device from Best Buy along with insurance at our local mall... and at 7 pm after trying to get the phone to work correctly took it back to the store. The person that had sold me the phone was there along with one of the managers/assistant managers and they both keep telling me it was my own fault for attempting to root the phone (which I didn't do). They fought with the phone for and hour or so and couldn't get anything to work correctly... still getting the unlocked icon and custom word. I was told that if I could get it unrooted they would exchange the device for me, but they couldn't do anything with the phone until I could get it back into ua unrooted status. The assist manager did point me out to another website that explained the use of ODIN and where to get the stock Verizon rom.. which took a good few hours to d/l due to their slow server (not complaining, I'm glad they had it for me to begin with).
I set up and attempted to unroot the device with no avail. Did a factory wipe clean out cache etc etc the ODIN program kept saying it worked and I would be presented with all the normal new phone settings and hoops to jump thru as if it was just being activated... but on a restart the open lock and custom was still there.
Yesterday while looking over forums I noticed the phone was downloading an app I had already downloaded. I looked at the phone and it seemed as if it was re-installing some of the basic play store apps I had! I rebooted the phone and no lock appeared and under the Device status custom was gone and "original" was in it's place. I packed all my boxes and cables up and after work today took the phone in and had them exchange it for a new one. The same assistant manager was there when I had first taken the phone in when I had experienced the strange behavior.
She (the assistant manager), had no problem exchanging it since it didn't have that error showing up.
My major concern is if somehow if/when I connected the phone to my desktop did it (either the phone or computer) try and transfer files that made the phone act up in the first place? I have a rooted Nexus 7 and the Razr I had had ... had also been rooted. I don't think I have anything besides Samsungs device manager and Wugs Nexus Root toolkit, but those shouldn't mess the S5 up I have Eclipse installed but it doesn't launch without manual opening. I would both hate it if I had the same thing happen to this new phone but also dislike the idea of not plugging the phone in to transfer media if I wanted to.
Any ideas... or think it was a bad first phone?

[Q] Note 3 Google Play Services failing/OTA updates HELP

Okay, so my old phone basically broke after I updated to 4.4.4, my service was absent almost everywhere, my bluetooth went in and out, my phone was slow and froze constantly, and my battery could drain completely in like 30 minutes if I didnt turn everything off and hardly use it, then it would maybe last a few hours. So I got a replacement through Verizon, and lo and behold, it came with 4.4.2. My last post was about me trying desperately to root, but I couldnt because of my 4.4.4 update. So I was thrilled. I transferred all my stuff, and actually managed to use towelroot and it worked.
Then, my phone automatically downloaded the update, and I couldnt figure out how to stop the update popup or notification. Nothing I tried worked, and I downloaded a few apps to try and turn it off. Disabling or etc Google Services Framework does nothing, but somehow, everything else I did managed to make the phone basically unusable. I get two errors: "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." and the same one but about Google Play Services. I tried to undo what I did but it didnt fix it. I reset my phone to factory settings, and while that stopped the downloaded update from popping up, i cant use it because the popups are there literally every 2 or 3 seconds. I cant navigate through a menu without tapping a hundred times, usually on the wrong buttons. I dont have wifi on, so the ota update hasnt downloaded.
Im going to probably take it to Verizon tomorrow and ask them if I can just get a replacement replacement, but I hate having to do all that, because I might have to wait even longer now. If somebody has any idea how to fix google play services, please tell me. I reenabled them, cleared data and cache, force stopped them, turned them back on, nothing fixes it.
Also, I desperately need to know how to prevent an update from downloading, and how to get rid of it once it is downloaded. Ill have root access, but none of the methods Ive googled have worked, please help me, Im so frustrated with Verizon and Samsung all this bull**** now. Why cant they just let us enjoy our devices?
First off a Verizon store will not give you a new phone unless you are inside of 30 days of a new purchase. Ofirst din 4.4.2 to give it a clean start. Re root phone. Then disable sdm which will stop all ota updates.
No, Verizon will give you a replacement if you have their insurance. I've gotten dozens this way. As long as there isn't any serious physical damage like obvious scratches or cracks, water damage, or anything similar they overnight you a brand new device.
I have two phones in my possession right now, on Monday I'll have a third. I went in and showed them the replacement, they seemed confused, but they always do. They told me to just send back the broken replacement and went ahead and put in for a new one, which Ill get Monday since tomorrow is no post.
So that problem is solved.
Ill try what you suggested when I get my replacement. I've never rooted beyond the towelroot I mentioned before, so this is all new to me. It seems like some methods I've seen only work on certain phones, so thats what Im worried about.
Do you think you could give me more specific instructions, because I have no idea what everything you said meant. Im just tired of googling everything you know? Id appreciate it!
Thank you for the reply!

Verizon Android 10 system update 5 unavailable

So I understand OTAs hot different places differently. However the website contains a tool called system update configuration or something that the site says to use when you don't receive the OTA.
nothing has worked so far I've talked over 15 hours on another phone with several level 1 techs and 3 or 4 level 2.
The first level 2 had me wipe everything (factory reset) and he falls it would update then. Well it didn't do he said my phone was borked and sent a refurbished one which arrived today.
So I go through setup not emailing anything all the way no location no Google account no location etc. I added wifi when done. Still no update. Both phones day I'm up to date.
Verizon's site clearly says the latest image is Andy 10 and Feb secure patch and starts with Q.q. O was told many bull**** stories the biggest one was that my phone wasn't at risk and was secure. They days if my phone says it's up to date then I don't need anything. I called bull feces and asked if she pulled that line from her anus.
Well talked more and finally after several hours of her going back and forth with her super she said it was Motorola's fault.
I then explained that Moto releases an image which goes to big red for the addition of trashware then release it to their customers.
Any way she kept saying she couldn't point me to the location of the system image nor could she send it to my device and therefore couldn't help me. I slept why the windows update app didn't work and got no reply.
I'm stopped to call Motorola because she said they're tier 3 support..
We'll see more to come..
