[Q] updated to 4.3, now Sprint ID wont leave me alone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello all, my family all just got new phones. Both my mom and dad got the S4. I activated my dad's phone with no problems and everything is running great. It did not get the OTA update so it is still on 4.2.2. My mom's phone on the other hand has some issues. Right after activating and running initial stuff, I got the OTA update message, and decided to update that phone. it downloaded, rebooted, installed, and rebooted again. It seemed everything went fine.
Upon further setting up her phone, I noticed that there would be a notification about Sprint ID downloading a "Default ID" pack, and it trying to install it. But it would fail every time. Any changes to the internet connection (going from 3g to wifi or vice versa) would trigger Sprint ID to start up over again and download and fail to install. This kind of gets annoying after a while. Since my mom's phone is not rooted, I can not freeze or uninstall the Sprint ID apk. Force closing it does not help, because it starts up again when changing internet. I spent a good 30 minutes with the Sprint Chat online with no help. Even factory resetting does not fix the problem. Sprint could not help, and forwarded me to a Samsung chat person online. After 20 minutes with that person, they said that they went through all troubleshooting steps and could not help and asked me to call their hotline (which is open on Monday).
The odd thing is, according to Sprint's website, Sprint ID isn't supported on the S4, and my dad's S4 with 4.2.2 does not have it. could the 4.3 update have accidentally added Sprint ID? Is there any way to remove Sprint ID without root? Or root with 4.3, and somehow flash back to stock 4.2.2 without messing with knox? I can try going to the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can do anything, but I would rather try alternatives first.

on the phone that's already taken the 4.3 update you cannot go back to stock 4.2.
You can however root. Then install titanium and freeze the 'sprint installer' and sprint id applications.

Just wait 'till tomorrow do not take any risks because it's your mother's phone and she wont need root. Service will flash a rom to it hope it will fix it. Have a good day

Yes, take it to Sprint and have them fix it. You did nothing wrong so it shouldn't be upu problem.

So I went to the Sprint store today, to see if I can get my mom's phone fixed. According to the technician, there is nothing they can do until Sprint pushes an update to fix this problem. The technician tried fixing a previous customers phone with the same problem, and came to this conclusion. He even said switching out the phone wont help because eventually the 4.3 update will push to that one and might glitch like this phone. I guess I will hold back on updating my dad's phone when he gets his OTA.
I have temporarily fixed the notification by turning off notifications for Sprint ID, so it wont keep on popping up, but I do not know if it will try to download in the background or not.
I heard Sprint was going to push an update to fix the Knox notification showing up when switching to wifi on the S4 and Note 3, and hope they might attach a fix to this in the update.

[Q] Verzion 900V probelm

I purchased a S5 G 900V (Verizon) on the 15th (of May) after my last phone died (Razr)... 2 months after the insurance expired of course. The S5 seemed to work fine for the first 3 days and like most I was setting it all up (w/exception of a few root only apps since the verzion phone is locked up).
This last Tuesday late afternoon the phone wouldn't turn on so I did a battery pull and when it booted up it had an unlocked icon (lock that was unlocked) display on the device and the word "custom" displayed under the open lock. The phone would go to sleep and not wake up without a battery pull each time. Device status under the settings area was also the word "custom". I had purchased the device from Best Buy along with insurance at our local mall... and at 7 pm after trying to get the phone to work correctly took it back to the store. The person that had sold me the phone was there along with one of the managers/assistant managers and they both keep telling me it was my own fault for attempting to root the phone (which I didn't do). They fought with the phone for and hour or so and couldn't get anything to work correctly... still getting the unlocked icon and custom word. I was told that if I could get it unrooted they would exchange the device for me, but they couldn't do anything with the phone until I could get it back into ua unrooted status. The assist manager did point me out to another website that explained the use of ODIN and where to get the stock Verizon rom.. which took a good few hours to d/l due to their slow server (not complaining, I'm glad they had it for me to begin with).
I set up and attempted to unroot the device with no avail. Did a factory wipe clean out cache etc etc the ODIN program kept saying it worked and I would be presented with all the normal new phone settings and hoops to jump thru as if it was just being activated... but on a restart the open lock and custom was still there.
Yesterday while looking over forums I noticed the phone was downloading an app I had already downloaded. I looked at the phone and it seemed as if it was re-installing some of the basic play store apps I had! I rebooted the phone and no lock appeared and under the Device status custom was gone and "original" was in it's place. I packed all my boxes and cables up and after work today took the phone in and had them exchange it for a new one. The same assistant manager was there when I had first taken the phone in when I had experienced the strange behavior.
She (the assistant manager), had no problem exchanging it since it didn't have that error showing up.
My major concern is if somehow if/when I connected the phone to my desktop did it (either the phone or computer) try and transfer files that made the phone act up in the first place? I have a rooted Nexus 7 and the Razr I had had ... had also been rooted. I don't think I have anything besides Samsungs device manager and Wugs Nexus Root toolkit, but those shouldn't mess the S5 up I have Eclipse installed but it doesn't launch without manual opening. I would both hate it if I had the same thing happen to this new phone but also dislike the idea of not plugging the phone in to transfer media if I wanted to.
Any ideas... or think it was a bad first phone?

[Q] Note 3 Google Play Services failing/OTA updates HELP

Okay, so my old phone basically broke after I updated to 4.4.4, my service was absent almost everywhere, my bluetooth went in and out, my phone was slow and froze constantly, and my battery could drain completely in like 30 minutes if I didnt turn everything off and hardly use it, then it would maybe last a few hours. So I got a replacement through Verizon, and lo and behold, it came with 4.4.2. My last post was about me trying desperately to root, but I couldnt because of my 4.4.4 update. So I was thrilled. I transferred all my stuff, and actually managed to use towelroot and it worked.
Then, my phone automatically downloaded the update, and I couldnt figure out how to stop the update popup or notification. Nothing I tried worked, and I downloaded a few apps to try and turn it off. Disabling or etc Google Services Framework does nothing, but somehow, everything else I did managed to make the phone basically unusable. I get two errors: "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." and the same one but about Google Play Services. I tried to undo what I did but it didnt fix it. I reset my phone to factory settings, and while that stopped the downloaded update from popping up, i cant use it because the popups are there literally every 2 or 3 seconds. I cant navigate through a menu without tapping a hundred times, usually on the wrong buttons. I dont have wifi on, so the ota update hasnt downloaded.
Im going to probably take it to Verizon tomorrow and ask them if I can just get a replacement replacement, but I hate having to do all that, because I might have to wait even longer now. If somebody has any idea how to fix google play services, please tell me. I reenabled them, cleared data and cache, force stopped them, turned them back on, nothing fixes it.
Also, I desperately need to know how to prevent an update from downloading, and how to get rid of it once it is downloaded. Ill have root access, but none of the methods Ive googled have worked, please help me, Im so frustrated with Verizon and Samsung all this bull**** now. Why cant they just let us enjoy our devices?
First off a Verizon store will not give you a new phone unless you are inside of 30 days of a new purchase. Ofirst din 4.4.2 to give it a clean start. Re root phone. Then disable sdm which will stop all ota updates.
No, Verizon will give you a replacement if you have their insurance. I've gotten dozens this way. As long as there isn't any serious physical damage like obvious scratches or cracks, water damage, or anything similar they overnight you a brand new device.
I have two phones in my possession right now, on Monday I'll have a third. I went in and showed them the replacement, they seemed confused, but they always do. They told me to just send back the broken replacement and went ahead and put in for a new one, which Ill get Monday since tomorrow is no post.
So that problem is solved.
Ill try what you suggested when I get my replacement. I've never rooted beyond the towelroot I mentioned before, so this is all new to me. It seems like some methods I've seen only work on certain phones, so thats what Im worried about.
Do you think you could give me more specific instructions, because I have no idea what everything you said meant. Im just tired of googling everything you know? Id appreciate it!
Thank you for the reply!

Roaming Data keeps switching to Verizon

I was running tx_dbs_tx Hybrid X 3.0 up until this morning when my phone suddenly kept popping up the Data Roaming Guard. Whenever I would attempt to make a call, it would alert me to a Verizon error to reboot my phone -I am on Sprint. I flashed with Odin the stock OK1 software, and besides having Knox and ItsOn back on my phone and battery life being horrible once again, I am still receiving the Data Roaming Guard splash screen and still receiving the Verizon error when making calls. I was able to make a single call after using the Activate Device self-service, but it didn't even last 20 minutes.
Again, back on stock OK1 ROM from Sammobile, re-rooted with Freeza's OK1 stock kernel, SuperSU Beta 2.52, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you live in a 4G Sprint area? If not this EXACT same thing happened to me and my wife right before they started 4G in our area. Even service calls went to Verizon first. Evidently even the Sprint reps had no idea that 4G was getting turned on in my area, they had me do all the #* dialer codes and both our phones said we were in roaming for like a day or two.

Yes, San Antonio was one of the first markets with Sprint to have 4G WiMax and then 4G LTE. It had been running just fine for months, but suddenly stopped working. Even after flashing stock back on without root or any added apps besides Sprint's auto-downloads, it still had the problem. Took it to the store yesterday and baffled them all for 2 hours before they ordered me a replacement. They even tried a new sim card because I told them that I've had problems intermittently in the past with the Roaming Guard popping up and forums stated it could be a bad sim card. The Sprint # codes wouldn't even work. Anyways, they ordered me a replacement- won't have it until Tuesday but thanks for the response. I had never heard of anything like this happening before and it struck me as odd. I even checked the settings for the network and they all checked out fine, Sprint store reps did the same and were just as perplexed as I was.
Mine was doing almost the same. Seemed like it had to go to verizon when it would go between towers. Then back to sprint. So I did the ##72786# that is suppose to launch the hands free activation. Although it didnt launch it(due to custom rom), it did run the provisioning stuff and fixed mine. Hasn't went to roaming yet.
No promise it will work. But hopfully it will fix yours. Assuming you are on a note 4.

Yes, I am on Sprint Note 4, but the pound codes wouldn't even work. As soon as I put in the last # sign it just cleared out the dialer. I found a complete list of # codes on sammobile or samfirmware site, can't remember which, and even Sprint attempted them. I had flashed back to stock available on Sammobile prior to going to Sprint, but it still didn't work. You don't think different flashes or ROMs or kernels could have caused this do you?
Anyways, I have the insurance through Sprint and have a new one on the way Tuesday. I just hate not being able to figure out a software related problem. I was also trying to find a way to do it manually while rooted, but couldn't find the right edits because I cannot even remember how to get into the correct settings at the moment-mind cluttered with too many projects.
I appreciate all of the responses though and really enjoy learning about my device on xda and hope to either create my own apps or even cook a ROM in the near future.

Won't detect OTA update (ATT)

My S10+ will not detect the day one OTA update. I check every day and it says software up to date even thought its still on G975USQU1ASAT. AT&T says to contact Samsung and Samsung says to contact AT&T. Anyone else had this problem or have any idea how to fix it? I've already tried factory reset, clearing cache and data on the updater apps with no luck.
Do you need to be connected to WiFi or have a certain battery level? Try charging to 100% and connecting to WiFi then manually search for the update.
What I had to do is go into the date and time and shut off auto time update and manually set it 2 days a head then mine found the update.

Two options:
1) Borrow someone else's sim or ask At&t for another
2) Download the S10+ OTA and update via SD
Did you put the sim that came with it in? I used my old sim and had the same problem till I changed the sim card.
Sorry for the late response and thanks for the suggestions. Just returned from vacation so I will try the suggestions. Also yes I used the sim they sent me. I suspect something got messed up in the sim provisioning as I came in as a new line then ported my number in. I will try putting my wife's sim in and report back. Thanks again!
Mine wouldn't detect an update. I'm only using mine on wifi as this one is just a spare phone for now.
To get the update though I needed to put in my att dim and put the date a week in the future. That's the only way I was able to actually get it to check the server.
I'm having the same exact problem. I purchased my S10+ directly from Samsung, but it was the AT&T model. I've been stuck on the ASAT baseband with the Feb 1 Security patch since day 1. I've been on the phone/chat with AT&T for the last 3 days. Each time they've promised that they have pushed the update to my phone, and every time I check, I get the "Software is up to date" message. I just tried setting the date to next week, restarted, and checked for the update..still nothing.
The same thing happened to me with my Note 8, but I was able to get around it using ODIN. I've told AT&T that I'm not paying my bill until this is resolved (like that's gonna do anything). Anyway, I'm at the breaking point on this, and not getting anywhere fast.

Help me with my Verizon S8

Hi
I owned an S8 on Verizon for a year or so and switched to Sprint's Bring Your Own Device Plan. One a Sprint SIM was inserted, the phone was rebranded and all Verizon apps were wiped off and replaced with Sprint. Fast forward a few months after, early June, I get a firmware update notification which I prompted to accept (as I have many times before for Verizon and Sprint updates). After the update, the phone worked for a few days and then all of the sudden gets stuck on the word Samsung S8 logo and restarts on its own. It keeps looping!
Resetting didn't work and I sent it to a store nearby (You Break, We Fix) and nothing could get this thing to go back to normal. I think the fact that the phone was on Verizon and was rebranded to Sprint is what caused the problem.
I downloaded Odin but can't figure out which version of the firmware I should use to flash the phone and get it to work. The original box that came with it says SM-G950UZKV and the SW-VER is G950USQU1AQC8. I don't care about the phone's photos/other data, I just want it to work again.
What firmware should I download to get the phone to work?
