Can I use samsung's soundalive on my LG V20? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I really think V20 offers high quality music, but it is not fun to me because of the lack of sound effects.
Even if I can use Viper4android instead, its concert hall effect is not as good as soundalive's.
So what I wanna say is, installing soundalive on my V20 and using it is possible?

Why not try installing it?

There is a soundalive irs pack for V4A's convolver feature that the creator for V4A offers on his website. has about 20 different types that emulate soundalives different configurations. Prolly closest thing you are going to get to having it on a non-samsung device
https://zhuhangsirs.azurewebsites.net/Portal.html
That's the link to the store. Think the soundalive pack is $1.99

[Q] Nexus 4 performance audio on video

Hi! I'm new in this forum and i don't know if this is the right section to post. I ask for a mod, an app, a whatever method to improve the quality of LG Nexus 4 videos. On wednesday i'll leave for a music festival where bass are so incredible and i need to record it. I've just tried some mods that i saw in this forum but the quality audio is so unlistenable. Does someone know a method to recording video in a live music session? please help me
I'd like this too, I tried recording a video in the car with the windows up and radio off, it was pretty quiet, and all I heard was horrible distortion, it was complete trash.

You can simply do a test on speakers if you put on high volume and put the phone near or in a car with high volume. Thanks anyways! I am looking now towards S4 or HTC One. So sad that I have to give N4 up.

Equalizer setting for the loudspeaker to improve its quality

I am one of those guys who actually uses the phones's loudspeakers to listen to music, watch videos and stuff. I previously had HTC One M7, and coming from that phone, I noticed even better how bad LG G3's loudspeaker actually sounds. But that's why we use equalizer,eh?
Let me remind you though, this will not make it as good as HTC One's Boomsound speakers, but it is a step to right direction (atleast I think so). Here is a equalizer setting for stock music app, tell me what you think!

Thank you for this, it sounds much richer! Is there any way to make this the default eq setting for all of the phones audio output? It's far too harsh without!

You can search with term "equalizer" on Google Play Store. There's some pretty good ones, but they all have the same problem: they don't have preamp. Without this feature the equalizer's output is really quiet. I am still looking for the best one...
Interesting.
It's too bad that it sounds like butt when you switch to headphones though.

Yeah, too much boosted bass and reduced mids. The speaker is designed for mid and high sounds so to get it more bassy, this is the only way.
Viper4Android works well on the G3 but you need to be rooted. It controls each output separately and can change the sound quality quite radically.

[Q] No bass on Note 4. Is there Beats Audio on it?

The bass sound on the Note 4 is flat.
I now have HTC One M7 and when the Beats Audio is ON, the bass is nice. I dont know if it is a hardware or software gimmick.
So how do you make the sound on the Note 4 comes out with more bass?
I've always used rocket player's bass boost on my s3.. have you tried that?

No I have not try it. Does it install the player which I do not need.
For example, I use Tunein Radio Pro alot and it does not have a equalizer.
Is there a stand alone equalizer?

I've spent some time on my note 3 messing with bass. All I ever achieved was a bass boost but too low a volume.
There are other music players that can do better neutron, poweramp etc.
My conclusion
1. Use bass enhancing earphones
2. Use an amp
3. Get a different phone
How do you find the Note 4 speaker sound, say in comparison to the thin Note 3 tone?
once you root, there are several sound tweaks you can install..Viper FX has been my favorite in the past

I never own any Samsung phone (I have HTC One M7 now) and I know the Note 4 is louder than Note 3. Note 4 when you put at 15, it feel like the speaker is about to pop. Its really bad. So I put it at 13. Cover your hand over it and it sounds better. I have pre-order the Note 4.

I would say like a cheap AM speaker that is about to be blasted n the paper cone popped!
Someone said cannot compare to the HTC One speakers. And getting HTC is not my option now. I guess you cant have everything.
Omg this is putting me off. I spent £620 on a Note 3 last year,, and the audio when watching YouTube really disappointed me, was thin and treble. My Note 2 blows that away audio wise.
Now, I'm hesitant to spend £620 again if the audio is crap like on the Note 3...

At least the N4 is louder than the N3.
Most people dont use a phone speaker for fidelity. HTC One speaker phones are the exception!
I respect that. But even notifications on the Note 3 can be thin and harsh. General external speaker sounds,, are thin. I hope this isn't the case with the 4 also?..
I'm waiting for the nexus 6 specs. Rumour is that will have stereo speakers, who knows of their sound quality tho.
Rocket play is a standalone app with an eq built in. Ther ehas supposedly been a way to get better bass on my nexus 7 2013, but in over a year, I've never been able to get it to work. what music players work good on the LG G6?

What high end music players do you guys use for the LG G6 that doesn't have the audio cutting out for a split second on every song or skipping that is comparable to Poweramp? I was considering Player Pro but it has the same problem. i tried JetAudio Music Player but the highs sound muffled without one of the audio enhancers you have to pay extra for. I don't like the idea of buying an app and then having to pay extra for other features when other apps have it included for free. Also what settings or tweaks do you guys use to correct the cutting out or skipping? I have the settings maxed out on the PlayerPro and Poweramp and still have the problem.

Yeah it does. If you don't have their headphones in the preset list go down to the bottom for "other headphones". Should work with bluetooth. I didn't keep the app very long after finding out it wasn't showing my album covers and no way to add them like with Poweramp and PlayerPro. The interface is so 2011. Rather ugly by today's standards. the EQ was good sounding though.

None that im aware of yet? Version 3 was a bit glitchy found some songs would stutter and i sometimes had a weird distortion.
I went back to the official 2.x version and it's fine, earphones are fine and i cant say more than that really? Not sure why your looking at replacing the phone over the app? Its software and new to the device. Unless in samsung nothing is ever optimised straight from the box.
going through V20 forums about the quad dac, I'm pretty sure only some players (maybe only LG Music) recognises the ES9218+ DAC in the G6, the rest apparently can only recognise what Android audio manager api or whatever lets them recognise which is only the Qualcomm DAC so it essentially limits it to 48khz and plays that.
At least this used to happen, I hope LG has fixed this and allowed the ES9218+ to be seen by 3rd party players and used properly, does anyone have more insight into this? Please let me be wrong about this lack of support -_-

This is a somewhat complicated issue becuase of how music players interact with the V20 dac. I've been reading about this for many months on the web, mainly on threads here, on HeadFi, and on Reddit and the consensus seems to be as follows.
The stock LG App works for everything above 48K/16 bits. But apparently, it upscales everything (including redbook 44.1/16) to 48/16. In addition, ATT and Sprint excluded it on their versions of the V20. There is a thread someplace on this website on how to add the LG stock music app to ATT and Sprint phones that does not require rooting.
There are numerous music players that correctly decode everything below 48/16 (no upscaling). But many people say that they also downscale everything above 48/16 to 48/16. Then there are some people that say that some music players (including Blackplayer and Pulsar) correctly decode samples above 48/16 (no downscaling). From what I can tell, the consensus is that Neutron downscales.
Many people really love Poweramp. But it appears that the "normal" version downscales to 48/16. Some people say that the alpha version 704 of Poweramp does not downscale, but many more say that it does (for the alpha version, you first have to buy the "normal" version from the play store and then download the alpha version from the player's website), at least for the V20 dac. Supposedly, the next version of Poweramp will be able to properly use the V20 dac, but there hasn't been a new version for many months now.
Some people root their V20 and do things to make the music player do different things - adding viper for android, for example (I'm not a techy kind of guy, so no go for me). And some people say that the entire upscale/downscale issue will be resolved when the V20 gets the Oreo update (but that won't happen until probably sometime next year).
I use the LG stock app, which I had to add to my Sprint phone. I have not done any testing to determine if any music players (beyond the stock LG player) correctly accesses the V20 dac above 48/16. My info is based solely on what I've read (mainly on the three sites mentioned above). as such, you can take this all with a grain of salt. If none of this makes any sense to you, or if you believe (as many do) that human hearing can't differentiate anything above 44/16, then get a music player that you like and that has the features that you want - which is actually the best advice anyway.
Tested neutron, poweramp alpla 704 and stock.
Stock sounds like its utilizing it, i mean it has to right?
Neutron is downsampling and you can def tell the diff.
Poweramp alpha 704 with the stock output sounds ok not better then neutron
Poweramp Alpha 704 has hi res audio support but it stopped functioning on nougat devices.my v10 utilized it and it was amazing, best audio ever.that was when the v10 was on MM. After nougat it broke the high res playback.this is case with most devices.poweramp is working on fixing it for over a year now .in the meantime theres a little trick for better quality with poweramp.if you are rooted add this line to the build.prop "ro.lenovo.hifi_support=true".then reboot after setting correct perms.poweramp high res playback will work now but only 16bit. i noticed it improves the sq.so im running it like this until poweramp gets thier **** together.BUT trust me when i say when the native high res playback starts functioning, poweramp demolishes even the stock app by a mile.my v10 on MM with poweramp hi res output sounded better than the v20.it beat every single app including the stock on v10 by a longshot.
Also in poweramp use SoX resampler.there also a noticable quality difference.
In regards to stock app resampling at 44.1/16, that is correct until you modifiy build.prop to allow direct 16pcm.
audio.offload.pcm.16bit.enable=true
I have tested several different flac files ranging from 44.1/16 to 192/24 and they all output bitperfect sound, IF dumpsys is to be trusted.
adb shell dumpsys media.audio_flinger
LG Q8 with Poweramp 704
I have an LG Q8, which is the smaller V20 with the same hardware.
After trying several apps (most mentioned in this thread, including the stock player), I kind of never got the WOW-audio I was hoping for.
There is a lot of theorizing about up- and downsampling, but what counts for me in the end is my ears. What i hear.
It all kind of sounded the same, and quite similar to my old galaxy S5 - which was quite good.
Then, when using Poweramp alfa-test-version 704, I had a major improvement in audio quality.

I've read that Poweramp 704 alpha hi-res selection is actually accessing the dac on the snapdragon chip, rather than the V20 sabre dac. This is supposed to be fixed in the long-awaited next (alpha? beta?) version of Poweramp. Again, I have no proof of that, only what others have said.

Yes. I tested with adb command. It doesn't downsample. Only upsamples 16/44 content which you can stop by editing build.prop

As far as I know you need a rooted phone to edit build.prop.
Before I rooted I was very satisfied with Poweramp alpha 704 build to the point where I didn't root my v20 for almost 2 months when I usually root right away and put Viper on it. Need to change a few settings on Poweramp to get it to sound better like the aforementioned SoX resampler and stuff but it sounded night and day difference compared to any of the previous Galaxy phones I've used and even my brothers Nexus 6p which has the stereo sound.
Imo though nothing sounds as good as Viper paired with Dolby and a good convolver.
Does anyone know of a music player that neither upscales 44.1/16 to 48/16 nor downscales higher res files to 48/16 - i.e., actually accesses the V20 dac correctly (without rooting)?
