[Q] Nexus 4 performance audio on video - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I'm new in this forum and i don't know if this is the right section to post. I ask for a mod, an app, a whatever method to improve the quality of LG Nexus 4 videos. On wednesday i'll leave for a music festival where bass are so incredible and i need to record it. I've just tried some mods that i saw in this forum but the quality audio is so unlistenable. Does someone know a method to recording video in a live music session? please help me

I'd like this too, I tried recording a video in the car with the windows up and radio off, it was pretty quiet, and all I heard was horrible distortion, it was complete trash.

Did someone try this? Does it work? I really want to know if I am going to buy Nexus 4 or another phone like Note 2 that doesn't have this issue.

You can simply do a test on speakers if you put on high volume and put the phone near or in a car with high volume. Thanks anyways! I am looking now towards S4 or HTC One. So sad that I have to give N4 up.

[Q] Audio boost

Are there any apps out there that can boost the headphone output of the SGS II without rooting, on a stock rom? My problem is that I use my SGS II as a music player in my car, and the output is REALLY low for that.
Could try this,

Waht about mic boost?? Everyone says they can hear me very poorly...
Mic boost isn't possible I think. Besides I don't think there is any problem with the Mic, some people said me also that they can't hear me well but then I tried with my own landline and there was no problem whatsoever. The Mic was clear, crisp and loud.
Regards.

Audio capture in loud environment, Horrible!

The SIII for U.S variants has the S4 DAC. I recorded a video in an indoor concert/club recently and the audio quality sucks! There is too much bass in the audio making it crack/distort beyond! Is there any type of way to reduce mic gain? Has anyone tried recording with the headset plugged in? I heard that reduces the bass level a bit...
Voodoo will come to the SIII, but I hope it will come to the U.S models since it doesn't have Wolfson.
Try the LGcamera app, it's got a video recording feature that allows you to decide which microphone(s) and bit rates you want to use. Experiment with it

Do I set the mic to microphone, default or camcorder? They all sound the same. Haven't tested in loud environment though...

Have you ever recorded audio in a loud club/concert which did NOT have clipping and distortion? If so, I'd love to know what device it was.
A bit off topic of your use case, but I've always been of the opinion that shows are loud to prevent piracy of the show, because being up front it's more than loud enough to damage your hearing.

I'm not too sure, try it in the different configs and see which sounds the best for you. I haven't tried it myself but heard it helps with the issue you brought up.

iPhone can handle loud environments without issue.
The Galaxy SII also had this same problem, there was either none, or very bad automatic gain control. All loud audio was recorded very distorted. I'd love to find a fix for this!

This is an Android problem, not a Samsung one. Basically the hardware drivers are extremely primitive. I am a musician and therefore look for audio apps all the time, and there just aren't any because Android's audio is just too primitive. There is NO way to adjust the gain down, only up. If you don't believe me, Google audio gain and Android and you'll find a lot of stuff. Latency is a also huge issue, and that's why apps like Songify don't exist.
I wanted to record my band practices with my phone too. It's impossible. I use an iPod touch with an I rig mike instead.
It's really a shame Google just doesn't care about audio, ICS fixed nothing.

Also, that new Nokia pureview phone has an amazing camcorder. There was a video of a concert recorded with that phone and it looks and sounds amazing.

[Q] working sound quality mods?

Have any of you actually heard any difference with any audio mod, I.e Beats Audio or Acid, on the N7? I'm a musician and have pretty developed hearing yet can't hear a difference whatsoever. Perhaps problems with installation?
are you listening through earphones?
if yes then change earphones or get a higher bitrate sound file.
IF NOT..
Nexus 7's speakers are fragile...
i mean mine lagged while watching a movie and a mid to high pitch sound was lagging to my speaker for about 5-6 seconds,
cracked and bursts my speakers.
My device was rooted..
Locked and OEM
RMA'ed!!!
got replaced
hahahahaha
Maybe a good set of headphone or iem needed to spot the differences.

[Q]Mic equalizer?

Hi guys,
Two weeks ago, I went to a music show. My friend and I have tried to record a video of it. The thing is, he own an iPhone 4 and I got a Nexus 4. When we listened the videos, his was perfect, the sound was so good. Mine, I don't want to talk about it. My video looked better but the sound was so distortionned it was unrecognizable.
My question is: I wonder if there are a mod or something to do to get an "equalizer" or something else that could deal with those distortions like the apple phone do.
I know there are several mods increasing the quality of sound and video of the device but none work like a kind of equalizer.
Thanks!

There's an app called DSP Audio Filter and from the screenshots it looks like this app has a Mic Gain adjuster. However, this app is not free, just so you're aware
I'll look foward to it! Thanks!

I think i am returning this device also:crying:
My last hope is the upcoming nokia 930..

What a shame! you are totally corrrect, my Z2 is exactly the same, I took some amazingly clear video in a club the other night, the camera captured the scene in low light so well shockingly good video BUT when I listened the next day the sound is totally distorted ruining the videos!
I downloaded a Sound meter app on my Z2 and the wifes Galaxy S5, side by side they both give completely different DB reading, The sony is WAY too high! if you make a sound the sound meter jumps right up, where are the Galazy S5 is more stable. Unfortunately i cant find any setting in the phone to change the microphone sensitivity. so the problem is a serious problem that we are stuck with! SUCKS!!
SONY really need to fix this with an update!
Agree but look at this video
KyleSforza said:

Yes you are right this add on microphone is a good option for planned recordings! But what if you are just out and about with just your phone, and want to video something, live singing, a party, disco. The sony Z2 can take awesome video but if its a loud environment or with a lot of BASS the sound will come through on the video completely distorted and impossible to listen. Sony need to do an update ASAP.
Here is a sample of the distorted audio. (shame, the video quality came out really nice the DJ was Plastic Funk live in Pattaya Thailand)
*** WTF, I cant post the youtube video showing the distorted audio because I am new to this forum. sucks! if you want to see it just search youtube for "Distorted Sony experia z2 microphone"

Anyone who have this? I am thinking about ordering one but if the problem is in the software is more problematic. If this makes recording at loud volumes way better it would be great!
Doomkernel allows to lower mic gain, that is why your recordings are ... over saturated.

It isn't for the faint of heart and requires the bootloader to be unlocked, if you search the forum you will find the doomkernel thread. You might want to ask people in that thread for more help or suggestions.
