Any idea on extend the free ROM storage? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

I just purchase a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 - Snapdragon 625 - 3GB RAM - 16GB ROM.
This is the worst choice that I have ever made.
With 16Gb ROM, I just have 9.84 Gb storage and after installed my app ( the essential app that I have to install for every device I used) I got 3 Gb free storage for stuff like Music, Photos & Videos, Document,...
If I had spent more some bucks for 32GB for 64GB version, I think I would have never concerned about the ROM storage anymore.
My solution until now:
Flash a custom ROM like Lineage OS, RR which have zero trash app. RR ROM size ~ 550Mb compare to MIUI 700Mb with alot of trash app: Mi credit, floatball, mi drop, mi drive,...
Use Titanium Backup to delete any built-in app that I don't need.
Flash Pico Gapp.
Today, I will purchase a micro SD and abandon 1 SIM The price of micro SD in here (Vietnam) is cheaper than buying a 32GB ROM instead. It somewhat comforted me. hehe. The disadvantage that I have to use 2 devices. Actually, my second SIM just a backup SIM, I rarely use it.

I guess you can buy a SD card, install a custom ROM and format the card as internal storage.

There's no version of redmi note 4 with 16gb ROM...
The 3gb RAM variant has 32gb ROM
Correct me if I'm wrong

Actually, it has a version with 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM It's very common in Vietnam due to its cheap price People who need small storage will find it very affordable.

its another version its Note 4X

This is true. My friend from the Philippines has a Redmi Note 4 with 16GB of internal storage. While mine is 3GB and 32GB combo, and I've seen no trace of that specific model here in Malaysia.
Only 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB model is available here.

I have seen specs with 2/4GB. Two versions available? Is your ROM 2GB or 4GB?

There are not only one version.
There are two. One with 2GB and one with 4GB,
it was stated on amobil.no, big norwegian mobile phone test site that Norway, probobly Scandinavia was suppose to only get the 4GB version, but today it's almost impossible.
Today you can almost only get the 2GB version, it's almost impossible to get the 4GB here today, but the 2GB is pretty easy to get in comparison.
It should only have been the 4GB version, but i have ordered my self a Huwei U8800 2GB version. Really looking forward to it =D
Can you guys run the 'df' command in one of the terminal apps?
Post results if able.

/dev ~ 176 MB
/system ~ 213 MB
/data ~ 590 MB
/cust_backup ~ 239 MB
/mnt/asec ~176 MB

~1520MB , I don't know where the other ~400 MB has gone

I think we can safely say Stockwell was very correct .
Maybe someone can explain what the 'missing' ~400MB is used for

Internal storage on Pro (+) !?

hello,
can anybody pls tell me how much is YOUR internal storage on the
U8800pro?
for the normal X5 (U8800) wiki says 600MB and 2GB flash
8800+/pro is claimed to have 4GB flash and more internal, too.
At least my Pro says 0,9GB internal free
but only 1,55GB internal SD/flash available
so my pro obviously has only about 2GB internal - not 4
(I just updated to the last official 2.3.5 (B57) (3/2012) and left the phone untouched so far)
any other experiences with this rom ... hints?
thx

My 8800 Pro (Titan?) has 1,56 GB on internal SD-card, and 544 MB on internal storage.
I found it under Settings > Storage space ("Lagerplads" in Danish, I don't know what it's exactly called in the English version). Maybe that is why it isn't the same as yours
Thanks Oliver,
that is the same, maybe your internal is only 544 because of installed apps?
mine is clean so far (0,9GB)
But my point is the small internal SD (1,5 vs 4GB claimed)
never mentioned that before....
Edit:
meanwhile I found another pro-user,
also 1,56GB
well, if we were nasty, we could call it scam

32GB phone, 24GB available. Where is this 8GB at?

Even with a custom ROM and after wiping data the most I've seen available is 24GB. Where is this 8GB of memory going to? Possible to make it available to use?
The phones have partitions. Thus 8gb is set aside for the system. The only way to get it back Is to change the partitions.

Don't think that's possible with a locked bootloader.

Okay, that makes sense, but what in the world do they need 8GB for? Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and get this space back? I'm assuming it's been done on other phones.

well the stock rom in nearly 2g compressed, i dont know what it is broke down and installed.
as for the bootloader, i doubt anyone is even trying to unlock it since we have loki support.
Also, one thing to remember is that you don't really get 32gb from a 32gb piece of memory. Formatted, it is 29.7gb.
I think there's 24.3gb usable, so LG has taken 5.5gb. For what? I dunno. But I think it's still less than Samsung takes.
I don't think there's 5.5gb of data there. Maybe there's a couple gb held in reserve for OTA updates...?
Almost clean stock. Sounds about right to me.

My LePro3 has arrived - with a Snapdragon 820 CPU - Help needed...

I live in the UK and ordered the LePro3 from Coolicool. It was sent from Hong Kong.
When I opened up the package and went onto "About Phone" and it said Model number LEX720 and then I noticed the CPU as a Snapdragon 820 4 core 2.15GHz.
I'm not happy. The phone has 6GB of RAM, 64GB of Storage & has the stereo speakers (I've done a test) like the LePro3 and benchmarks on AntTuTu at 161,000. I'm not sure how I can find out what the battery capacity is to see if it is the larger 4070 battery
Has anyone else heard of this?
Have I been sent a hybrid test phone?
It's a normal problem when there is not the original Rom on it. So u have the 821 inside but on the settings stand the 820.
Edit: if u buy it for example from cect-shop (germany) u get the x720, and in the settings stands the 820 not the 821.
If u want to be sure for 100% download cpu-z from the play Store and it should look like the attached pic. Then it's a 821.

At a guess, someone has borked the info in the build.prop when converting from Chinese.
I'm pretty sure, especially with an antutu score like that, you have an sd821 in there.
Thanks
Thanks for that information - much appreciated. I've downloaded CPU-Z and run the test and it reads exactly like your screenshot. So I'm guessing I have an 821 under the bonnet !!
That's a big relief.
Please i have a question. Mine is with the original ROM in chinese and english. And the system update woks ok. I have read that with a modified ROM the system update do not work. Is this real???

Yes if u use a modified rom, like using xposed, root or disable a system app it doesn't work to update.
If u using a other rom, u can't update. Like the Italian rom who are linked somewhere here in the forum.

Lost Storage Space

So I have the 128gb version. My storage was fine until after I installed Lineage 15.0. It says I only have 111gb of storage left, yet nothing was downloaded. I even used the unbrick tool and put my phone completely back to factory with it, and it still says 111gb remaining. I know OOS doesn't use that much space. I also downloaded an app called Disk Space, and it shows my storage as 111gb. I don't know how that other bit of storage is just completely gone. Is there any way to get it back?
Isn't that normal? Here's what I see on my 64GB unit.

Yea kinda strange that the 64gb unit only has 52gb of space on it. I was hoping wed have more around 58-59. Android isnt that big and cmon, its 2017 we can start getting near maximum storage on storage devices.

The rom is not the issue, I am on stock rom and it also shows 111gb. I think it is because of the space allocated to user data in the partition.
