Confirmed that the Honor 8 will get EMUI 5.1 on Android 7.1 base? - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just found this on Reddit today. Someone contacted Honor USA on Twitter via direct message and got this answer.

Honor on Facebook said we won't get emui 5.1 but a version of 5.0 with some updates to it.

I know, but this information from you came out before this guys asked honor on twitter, maybe they changed their minds?

I've contacted Honor USA by twitter and Honor Italy by facebook. Honor USA told me testually: "EMUI 5.1 will be avaible initially for P10 and P10 Plus, but we are working to get it on other devices too" it's not a confirmation, but sounds like something is moving on the Honor side. Honor Italy told me testually "About EMUI 5.1 actually we don't have any information yet, but surely the Honor 8 will receive software updates in the near future". They also didn't confirmed anything...but hey, initially EMUI 4.1 and 5.0 devices were totally excluded...now something is moving. I think it's a good sign. What do you think?

Not sure, but the original reason was due to the hardware restricted some of the 5.1 features I think.

I don't know if this helps, but I have just chatted with honor us on twitter, this was the outcome.

That Honor 8, Novas and P9s wouldn't receive the emui 5.1 update, but a major update of emui 5.0 was said by the official emui Facebook page.

So what's the big difference between EMUI 5.0 vs 5.1?

Yes but the post is from March... i asked them on May and someone else a couple o days ago. Maybe they changed their minds

In my opinion, I would rather want honor to skip Android 7.1 and skip straight to Android Or, there's no big difference between 7.0 and 7.1.

Battery life is much improved on 7.1 so I'd like to get it. My battery life on 7.0 is so bad I might have to sell this soon if there is no improvement soon.

Did you factory reset? If so, what's causing the drain? I don't lose more that 2-3% of battery during the night while I sleep. All power saving mode turned off, WiFi on, all accounts syncing turned on.

[HELP] P8 automatic HDR disable

Hello people, i have some questions about p8.
1. Is it possible to disable automatic HDR? or is there some camera app alternative
With working stabilisation? Usually the photos are to bright and unnatural
2. Im a bit confused about latest stable android update,
i recently updated to 5.0.1 (B200), but i read something about 5.1 version,
is there newer version except beta one?
3. Status bar color is not transparent in apps like on AOSP, can it be fixed?
Thank you very much for any answere
If you don't want/need root, go for M. The camera is awesome. Not to mention the manual mode, it's superb.
The minute we'll have root method for it, i'll upgrade.

I'm rooted, but the camera is weird, don't you experience situation when you want take photo, but you manually set light lower, but when you open photo in gallery it automatically bright it up? When I take photo in mode where it selects the best one, it's always good, also in other camera apps it's good, but they don't support stabilization, if you have any idea please share with me, thanks
PS. Android M is currently very buggy as i read, or?
I said if root is not important,i recommend M. Now i'm working on a way to root the damn thing. I just love the new camera

is the beta stable for you? everyone is complaining about it, i believe it's better but i need it working well
The only thing bothering me on M is the memory leak. Sometimes i find only 800mb ram free, but a refresh gets the memory back That's the only bug i encountered. Everything else works flawlesly. I even send a log to huawei about it and they said they know about it and looking for a fix.
Now i'm using lollipop because i need root badly for other projects i'm involved in.
PS. All major players had this memory leak bug when they updated to a newer version, Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC. Even on nexus devices it was present.

In the meantime is it an option to port the camera from te beta 6.0 to the B200 firmware?
Favourably without root needed
I'll try to extract the files from system.img.
Unfortunatelly, you will need root to install it on lollipop.
I suck at making apk's .

hey kimitza, one more question for you: battery drains very fast, in night it drains 10-15 percent of battery, is it normal? i factory resetted twice but didnt make a difference, how is you battery performance? i dont have SIM inserted yet, and somewhere i read this can cause faster battery drain but i dont belive it much, what do you think?

Well how do I get m I have the ul00
@00471 . Not sure. Usually, i get about 3% drain over night. Maybe there are some apps keeping the phone awake or some rogue services running in the background. Check that first. @panda968 ,unfortunatelly, only the 09 version has received beta M. And there is no news about others. I think Huawei released M for the most sold model first, to receive faster feedback from users. After the final build will be released,i'm sure it will come to all versions.

Previous ROM version was NXT-L29C432B152

I'm still testing, but the possible observed bigger battery drain could be due to a new doze management that doesn't allow the processor to reach a deep power saving condition as before so to solve the notification problem when the phone is in standby.

On one Polish Android forum, a few users had battery drain and high mobile data usage with it. It might be responsible. I have it disabled and battery drain is lowered for me from B152.
Also, remember that if a newly installed app is added automatically to the protected app list in the battery manager, it is also added to the Doze exemption list (or rather I think it works that way).
Make sure you go to Settings->Applications->Advanced->Ignore optimizations and exclude the apps you want to be stopped by Doze.
guys, one more time: what kind of screen on times are you getting with this firmware? would appreciate any input!

After almost a couple of days I haven't noticed any significant increase in the battery drain.
Furthermore, the notification problem I had with K9-mail under wifi connection is apparently gone.

With C432B170 I get only 7-8h SOT with 48h battery runtime. Listen to music for only round about 3h over Bluetooth and 85% of the time using lte. Now I'm testing the C10B172 and here it's the same battery life. On C432B152 with B162 Kernel I had 8-9h SOT with the same lte usage but with 8-10h listen to music.

Is there an improvement for camera with that new version ?

Mha-l29c10b156

As I believe I'm the first person to have this version, I would like to let everyone know what it's like. I've tested it a bit today.
Battery life drain seems like it could be significantly better than MHA-L29C432B138, and is comparable to the latest Chinese firmware. But I need a few more days with all my stuff running to be sure of the exact difference.
It's a Russian version, so it has Yandex and Opera pre-installed (this can be uninstalled though.). No other junk-ware or carrier bloatware found. It has Google services integrated like all other international firmware, and it has WhatsApp and Facebook as the dual app features, just like the other international firmwares.
The camera now has a 10x zoom like the Chinese version.
Otherwise, I haven't noticed any significant differences, but I still haven't been testing it all that long. If anyone has any questions let me know. If you'd like to try it yourself, follow the rebranding guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/mate-9-mate-9-pro-rebranding-guide-t3545154
I have added MHA-L29C10 as an option As far as I know, the MHA-L29C10 doesn't actually exist/hasn't yet been released, so it's a bit of a ghost firmware, I guess you could say.

Kernel version is 4.1.18-ga140f58, built Jan 4.
I can't give you battery stats because I'm doing other things firmware-flashing related with the phone right now, unfortunately. I had a Gear S3 syncing and got many emails, so I was pretty happy with 85% at the end of a work day, with an hour of SOT.
A few people are installing MHA-L29C636B158 already, so hopefully they will have good things to say about battery too.

So, no idea when there will be official release, but it seems stable. It is very similar to the P10's firmware at this point.
Update: The chinese version includes Google Play Services out of the box. Interesting.
Then Huawei's statement about "Phones on EMUI 5.0 won't be getting 5.1" is utter bull****? Nice going there Huawei! >< Are there any changes in the Camera App, enabling the Pro Video mode? Would you mind seeing how it does the GPS, with Galileo as well? Does it see more, then 1 EU satellite?

Thanks, work with that German fella from the GPS thread to log the output and see if it's changed. To test the camera, well try zooming 1.1x and see if the quality and sharpness improves. Was a 'bug' on some firmwares.

as this gem is capable of all of them. Otherwise for a few "Bugs fixed" and "Security patches" wouldn't wanna see another 1GB of storage and memory wasted.
Plus the Chinese version has a different story and nothing to do with the international version. That is why it matters.

8.0 Oreo

Why is it taking so long for Essential to release Android 8.0 Oreo ?

Well, the beta is out. I guess they want to make sure that by the time of the release everything will work as it should . Why 8.0 Oreo is so important to you anyway? What are the benefits for you to have that release?
There is already a Beta thread. You should have posted there since that talks about 8.0

Is this rhetorical? I'm very happy with nougat. There are no issues, great battery life, etc. I did, however, only have the phone for about 2 weeks, so didn't have it when there was lots of jumpiness etc. I don't expect oreo to improve my life at all.

No. Essential addressed the issue. It's a lot better on lineage. As I said if you are happy, then great. Don't look for it. But for me it's unusable, therefore Oreo will be welcomed.

Yeah, you are right, but why do you say its unusable? I mean what are you doing with your phone? if its only reading, its not that bad.... or why does it bother?

OK that might been a little rough [emoji4] but it gets on my nerves. But happy with lineage so IDC at the moment ☺

Then you should have coughed up and purchased a Pixel.
I loved Android 5.x.x on my previous daily driver: 1+1. A highly customized CyanogenMod that worked exceedingly well for me. The hype of any newer version of Android OS is exactly that: hype! I was more than happy with Android 5.x.x. Nothing in Oreo attracts me. What I do care about is the security updates and Essential has been pretty good about pushing out monthly Android security updates.

Well good for you. And I think the opposite.

The beta is awesome. They're working on fixing the rest of the issues the phone has before release (speakerphone echo, scroll stuttering, etc). Read their ama's on Reddit, they've been way more transparent than any other manufacturer. Give it time, they'll get it right.

Thanks
Just installed the new beta. Didn't realize I would lose the option for TMobile WiFi calling. Has anyone been able to install the new beta and get TMobile wifi calling to work? I had read that there are some commands that can be issued through adb to enable WiFi calling? Anyone know if that is accurate?

Just search for wifi calling in settings. I'm running the second Oreo beta and I have it.
