Bricked Zenfone 3 (ZE552KL) - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Hi there.
I bought this phone only yesterday and the first thing I did (of course) was update it to Nougat (7.0) and root it. I installed TWRP.
Due to some bugs and functionality issues, I decided to factory reset my phone (through the settings app) however the phone will now no longer load past the "ASUS" boot logo.
I have tried all of the following to fix my issue, to no avail.
[X] denotes failed attempt. [O] denotes successful attempt.
Safe Mode [X]
Hard Reset [X]
--- Recovery Mode (phone will not boot into recovery) [X]
--- Built in settings [X]
Clear App Data Cache [X]
--- Recovery mode (phone will not boot into recovery) [X]
SP Flash tool
--- Scatter File (cannot get with bricked phone)
Copy original firmware file onto SD Card [X]
Install USB drivers for windows [O]
I believe the best solution is to fix it using a scatter file through SP Flash tool, however the MSM8953 scatter file does not seem to exist online for download. If anyone with an Asus Zenfone 3 could google search "Create a scatter file for android phones" and upload the scatter file they create - I would greatly appreciate it. Any other suggestions are kindly welcomed.
Thank you.

I don't know if it helps, but there's a post https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/unbricking-zenfone-3-ze552kl-dm-verity-t3563970 ; correct me if I'm wrong but isn't SP Flash tool meant for mediatek device? As far as I'm concerned, ze552kl is powered by Snapdragon 625.

Thanks so much for this, hadn't stumbled across it. I'll give his unbricking steps a go tomorrow. Hopefully it works; its a method I haven't tried yet so there is hope!

[GUIDE] How to restore the Stock ROM on the Grand X Pro

How to restore the Stock ROM:
For Grand X ProOK, today I'll be showing you how to restore the Grand X Pro back to Stock, just as it was before you flashed the custom ROM...
You will need:
A PC Running Windows 7 (ONLY WIN 7 WORKS FOR NOW)
The Grand X Pro
A USB Android Cable
My FlashTool
ZTE VCOM Preloader Drivers MT6577
So , first get the full flashtool from here: ApeelMe's Blogspot - ZTE Grand X Pro FlashTool
Also install the Preloader drivers if you didn't do so...
Plug in the Grand X Pro and then turn it off...
It should (on the PC) install some drivers and fail , don't worry...
Open flashtool and select the NandUtil file and the Scatter file (nandutil.bin and mt6577_scatter.txt , their names are like that)
In the menu where you can select ANDROID , RECOVERY , BOOT , MBR, DSP , Preloader , etc DON'T Touch anything as it will wipe that partition and you may hard-brick your device..
Click "Download" in flashtool, wait till the green circle...
After the green circle appears , close flashtool and disconnect the phone.
Now turn it on, good ol' stock ROM...
Hope this works for you as it did work for me...
TeamMaverick
it didn't work for me, it completes the download and evrything but it still just stands on zte sign an that is it, can you help?
trying to use but i get a nandutil.bin file is not a valid da format. Is it corrupted?
Anyhowse. i went ahead and flshed with all in one. im now with cyanogenmod and cwm which is the opposite of what i needed. How can I return to stock rom and stock recovery? basically i need to send it back to shop because of faulty screen.
Resolved. Followed guide with link here

Didn't have any problems followed these steps:
1. run Flash_tool.exe from desktopfolder (maybe try run as admin if a problem)
2. select File-open scatter loading file
3. select MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt from restore to stock folder.
the ebr1 etc should be automatically filled in with file pathway
4.click download button
5. plug in switched off telephone (if drivers installed properly should just run)
6. wait until green circle appears. hey presto! switch on telephone.
nothing i hav done all that, an the problem is when it is all finished, i get errors such as can't mount data, it doesn find anything, i don't know what to do else, if you want i can post pictures when i enter recovery mode
repair grand x pro
Hi, this is no working for me. Just have CWm after finished.
I tried update tool software too, but can't recognize phone, red x stay at chacking and installing drivers.

I also hard bricked the phone almost in the same circumstances.
1. Have tried many different tools such as BoardDiag, but has no support for MSM8916.
2. Tried MiFlash, but there are no ROMs for this phone yet.
3. Tried with Qfil, this task was more complicated, as needed several files not available in extracted kdz stock firmware
3a. To get Partition data, I parsed PrimaryGPT.bin with gpt_parser.py by n0fate here. A readable partition table is extracted and manually made partition.xml. The file parseGPT.py was not able to do the job.
3b. To get rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml I used ptool.py , thanks to adfree who made available S8600_JTAG_120125.rar here
3c. To get the programming tools, (prog_emmc_firehose_8916.mbn, 8916_msimage.mbn and MPRG8916.mbn) I extracted these files from S60-a_S227_150806_ROW-QPST-QFIL.zip, available here (create a free account first)
4. Once I got all the above, tried to flash the phone in Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008, but no joy :crying:
Here is a copy of the flash Log:
Code:
Start Download
Program Path:C:\Users\Hector\Downloads\LG\Firmwares\H340AR10A_04\LgLeonH340AR\prog_emmc_firehose_8916.mbn
COM Port number:8
Sahara Connecting ...
Sahara Version:0
Start Sending Programmer
Download Fail:Unable to download Flash Programmer using Sahara Protocol
Download Fail:Sahara FailSahara Fail
Finish Download
According to this article in androidbrick.com, "LG has chosen not to use default options of this platform", therefore the files I got from Lenovo, may not be the same as the ones used by LG.
To get the above programmers for LG MSM8916 chipset, one should have access to LG service Tools, I think...
Would like to know if somebody had success flashing this phone in Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008
Bump! Anybody ? I can't believe there are 829 views of this thread and NO ONE is getting their feet wet in the above issue.
Here is my 10 cent contribution:
When the phone is Hard bricked, in HSUSB Qload 9008, chances are EMMC is corrupted and the phone is not booting, therefore not able to get to HSUSB 9006 , condition where the phone turns fixable by repartitioning and copying the individual image files to internal storage.
But to get to that point and get the phone booting, we need to reflash the EMMC partition. As this partition is not part of the official kdz file, I'm going to ask everybody if you can send me a copy of the EMMC partition of a working phone, Here is an example using ADB:
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/emmc.img
I am working in two bricked Leons, MS345 and H340AR. Your contribution will be appreciated, as I will publish results here.
Bump Again! 890 views. I believe there are some fellows having the same problem, however NOT a single ANSWER! Well, I have an update. I tried ietacid LG flash Tool, found the required DLL and firmware here, but there is no joy. The kdz file fails to load as is using a newer compression algorithm, and there is no TOT file available for the LG Leon ...
Same problems
I am having issues with installing proper arm.zip file for lg leon 5.1.1 using kingroot and kkm marshmallow launcher ive installed many arm files flashed them and after reboot android screen crashes i need help before i end up hard bricking my leon lol thnx in advance
please upload this again S8600_JTAG_120125.rar

That usually happens due to overload of firmware's or error in detection etc,
method to fix:Get the scatter file:
Flash tools step1:
1) Just copy the below code and rename it as .txt and use it as the scatter file.
2) Have the preloader file=preloader_oppo6750_15131.bin -> this is the version of preloader.
3) Get the system image of the oppo f1s stock rom.
4) Open flash tools , locate scatter file and open it,
->make sure bot the files system image and preloader are properly loaded.
5) Run flash tools to "Format + download" , Connect phone to pc ("Hold volume + and - at the same time and connect the usb cable and wait until detection is complete.
6)when done proceed to step 2
download tools step 2:
1) open download tools.exe, have the scatter file already download, click on download all.
2) The Green icons turn blue, wait for the process to complete,
3) Reboot
The files required are in particular places but just search for the yakub method on google, you will get the files for the oppo f1s,

Unable to boot - Oneplus8 pro

Hi Everyone,
I have an issue with my Oneplus8 pro and below are the details
1. The device was working perfectly. I was interested to root the device and install a custom ROM.
2. The method used was to try and flash a patched boot image for the device but I think i landed up using a wrong boot image file.
3. The OS was on 10.5.10 if I remember correctly. I used a patched image file I suppose of an older firmware. Now restarts and goes to "QUALCOMM Crashdump mode". The only options are
a. reboot to fastboot mode
b. flash the TWRP for Oneplus 8 pro but that doesnt mount by storage so cant really transfer anything to flash again.
Requesting some help to fix the issue and apologies if i have not explained correctly.
