Memory type Honor 8 Pro - Honor 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I got my Hands on some internal Documents of the Honor 8 Pro and found some interesting things. I read many reviews after the launch in Berlin.
A lot reviewers wrote that the 8 Pro got UFS memory because of the high benchmark scores. But it looks like that only the pre-release/demo devices got that memory type.
Mine 8 Pro has "only" the eMMC 5.1 and the internal confidential document said that's the official memory type.

I can confirm that my DUK-L09 has also no UFS memory. Bought mine from O2 Telefonica Store in Germany with a MyHandy contract.

I can confirm as well, i have a honor 8 pro and it has a "eMMC" memory type, many specialized tech website announced it as a "UFS" memory type...that's kind of suck

All the new phones were advertised originally as UFS then the news came out and websites were changed to remove references.
Now it seems the Galaxy S8 is the same.. I wonder how many others did so, given there's a reported shortage of UFS memory?

Hi Guys.
How did you check your memory type? Did you use benchmark? I'd like to test mine and check if it has the UFS 2.1
Thanks!

Just run AndroBench from the playstore. And if you got ~250mb/s and ~95mb/s you heave emmc

Mine has the EMMC type too...

try with app "P10 check", it gives you the Details what storage type you have

Huawei is at it again with their memory type lottery. @OldDroid what do you got? Have you received yours?

but still, i'd think that somehow in the assembly line, they'd have like one batch of emmc chips for one batch of phones. so, wondering if we can tell maybe the batches are more for black colour, or blue...
i dun think they'd have a batch where the chips are mixed (emmc and ufs). it would make recall/ tracing batch a nightmare if they really mixed things up during assembly.
would be nice if current owners can share more stats like:
* location/ country where unit is bought/ originated from (in case you bought it from overseas reseller)
* colour (blue, black, white)
* storage size (64GB vs 128GB)
* storage type (ufs vs emmc)
hopefully we can have some idea where the UFS is likely to be in...

Regardless, you can still make it a FAT32 and it will work. You will just have a 4GB limitation which I don't think people will be carrying files that large. But I'm sure it's a typo.

Yeah most likely it's 5-11-2012. Those foreigners always putting the date in weird formats.
The ICS manual of the S2 reads just the same, word by word and we all know, 64gb sd cards work on the S2.
So I think there is no need to worry, isn't it?!

I was wonder, the OS takes up space, but how much space? I pre ordered the 8 gig but if the OS takes more than a gig or so, I think I'm going to upgrade to the 16 gigs.
What do you guys think or if one of you have it, how much actual space doe sit have?

I think they said in some article that with the 8gb one, with the preloaded magazines and some apps, they had about 5.6gb left over. Hope this helps.

Micro USB
The Tech Specs says that the Nexus 7 memory is internal.
pdadb.net says that the Nexus 7 supports up to 32gb of memory.
I've read is several forum responses that the 16gb tablet has a micro SD card and that the 8gb one doesn't, but I've not been able to corroborate that on any of the official web sites.
I'm waiting to read a tear down report to see what is actually inside the Nexus 7 tablet. (Too much unsubstantiated information is being posted in the forums)

But if you think about it, everyone who got one at I/O has an 8gb version. Nobody actually owns a 16gb version yet. I know it probably isn't possible, but it would be cool if they added a little more hardware to the 16gb version to help justify the $50 price jump. Either way, it's the one I'm buying.

Monkeyluis,
How long is the battery life on your Wi-Drive? How many unique devices can it serve simultaneously?
The Wi-Drive came out (I think) after I bought a Seagate Satellite, or I might have bought the Wi-Drive instead. The pros of the Satellite is that it holds 500gb and can serve unique content simultaneously to about 5 users before it bogs down (with hacked firmware). The cons are that it's a lot bigger than the Wi-Drive appears to be and it's battery is only good for about 5 hours or so. With the lower price of the Wi-Drive, it looks really good -- particularly if it has something approaching 10 hours of battery life.

If you're streaming movies yes I think it could last 8-10 hrs. I have not used it for that long at once though. You can have up to 3 unique devices at once. The wi-drive is pretty small, light & thin. Easy to slip into a pocket or extra pocket in a bag.

The reason why they did not add a SD card slot, at least to my belief, because it would make the tablet slower. It takes more processing power to go through the SD and what not then the local HD. That's why I think iPhones and what not are less laggy because it maximizes it's processors for its dedicated hard drive and it does not have to sift through the others which makes it a bit faster.

64 GB Storage - Internal Listings > Resolved

Howdy All,
So I'm a little sketchy of this, and about to be slightly ticked off. Got my One in the mail today, the 64gb Sandstone Black model. The packaging says 64gb etc, but on the phone under storage it's coming up 'short.' So anyone with a 64gb can confirm it's short based on their device, before I contact OnePlus? Unless it's just reading the storage wrong...

While I'm glad you got it resolved, I do think it's kinda crummy that you even had to do this in the first place. OnePlus clearly has some kinks to work out in their product, and with the other issues that have been reported, I'm really thinking they weren't quite ready for prime time just yet. Mine should be here tomorrow or Saturday, can't wait to find out what problems I'm going to encounter with it.
Just playing a bit a devil's advocate.......
Flashing the 64gb.userdata.img is looking a bit like a voodoo magic.
What if the phone is a 16GB model in reality and OP just tricks the system to "think" it has 64GB on board.....
Suddenly are coming back in my memory all these stories about fake SanDisk SD cards which were flashed
with some kind of images to be mounted in WinExplorer and MacFinder as , let's say, 32GB; but in reality had only 1GB of physical memory.
Or it's not possible to be done on a phone???
Explanations and arguments from more technically educated members are really appreciated!

Well, I don't think the latter could happen, because like a computer partition, if you had 100gb drive and you did a 50/50 split, it'd be fine. But if you tried to make that 50 a 60gb partition, the system check would scream at you. So it's possible that a flash from the rom from the the toolkit / initial flash had the 16gb partition and over wrote it, leaving the rest 'unavailable.' With the zip you pull the files from it has both user images.
My take on it with schooling and computer knowledge.
A REAL test to do at this point would be if someone has a 16gb model to flash the 64gb user data img and see what happens. In the correct scenario, it should still show up as 16, cause that's greater than it's rated for. In the 'whacky' scenario, OnePlus would have had all the devices on a 64gb chip and just made the partition smaller, not seeing this happen.

I'm not convinced because in your example with the computer, you try to partition a correctly imaged drive under working operation system....
So no wonder it would scream at you.
But in your case, the phone is in "unconscious" state and nothing is checking what you are flashing.
You flash whatever image in order to MAKE the operation system to recognize the hardware the way how it's presented by flashed image.
And again, it seems that nothing is checking what you are flashing, because if it would be a check presented, the adb should not allow you to flash 16GB image over your 64GB drive in a first place.
In any case the situation is looking weird, and I would be happy if you get 64GB on board.
But to get a peace of mind, I second the @no_username_available suggestion to load your phone with something above 16 GB trash-hold and see what is going to happen.

Well yes, we are talking the same thing regarding the computer and the partition, I just let people connect the dots to show that the One system isn't 'signed' to say the least. And i completely agree with you regarding adb.
Though I can confirm the ''test'' he suggested, as when mine was 'showing' as a 16gb model, with 12 usable and 10gb available, tried dropping 20gb of music on it from my lappy and came up with the typical insufficient storage message.

That looks spooky....
Makes me think again that there is nothing for free in this world and a double price for all other flagships is a premium for working hardware, software and customer support....

Right, but now you have 64GB Now is the test time to drop your 20 gig of music and to see what is going to happen!

Pixel XL 128GB : Random freezing/reboot issue

Hey Everyone,
This thread is only meant for people with the Pixel XL 128 GB. It has been observed many people are facing random freezes/reboots with device. The culprit could be the storage that has been provided with your phone. This thread is not providing any solution for the problem(sorry about that), however, it would be great if you can mention the Storage Manufacturer of your phone here, just so that a pattern could be recognized. Mine was Toshiba 128GB.
To check the storage manufacturer, please go to the bootloader(fastboot) mode. It is mentioned on that screen.
For more details please go to my original thread regarding my Pixel XL 128GB.

This is only meant for Pixel XL 128GB (unless the others are also facing the issue) for people facing random freeze/reboot issues. Thanks.
I just had a complete freeze up and random reboot in my pixel xl 32gb yesterday, so i dont think it has anything to do with just the 128gb. My bootloader is locked and I am not rooted or ROM'ed. I never happened before 7.1.1 so maybe its a software issue.

Oh wow! Who is storage manufacturer? I was hoping to find a pattern with this issue. Many other's have complained about the same.

samsung on ufs and ram
128gb Toshiba
RAM is Hynix (I swear that's what it said)
Google Play Store Edition (US model)
Verizon Sim
I am not using all the 128gb 32gb wasn't enough 64 would have been perfect but they didn't make one.
I haven't had any freezing gear or lock ups.

Maybe try filling up the storage. Around 50 GB mark. I hope the phone behaves.:fingers-crossed:
I wondered about that myself, if it is a bad memory chip then it may not work until I have more shoved in there. Maybe tonight I will move some large files to the phone just to see what happens.

Interesting.
Hynix is/was *huge* in Enterprise level server ECC DDR RAM.
OK, I got it over the 50gb (52 to be exact) and I will let it go and see if I encounter any problems. Not apps, mainly pictures and movies of varying format if that makes any difference to the experiment.

It may be a bit early, and I could jinx myself, but it has been 6 hours and no freeze or reboot yet.

15 hours no freeze or reboot. I think I have cycled through every app I have, is there a particular app or configuration that might be the problem, I can check that on mine.

It's been at least 36 hours and not so much as a hiccup on my phone. I'm calling it done and going to remove the extra data I put on the phone to fill up the phone.

I have just experienced this issue. In my case I had just removed a messaging app that stored data. After deleting the app I was prompted by ES file explorer to delete data, I chose to delete and phone froze then would not boot up until I booted into bootloader and restarted. I am on 7.1.1 Verizon, 32 GB , Samsung storage , rooted and unlocked
Pixel xl 128gb is from Toshiba and the 4gb ram module is from Hynix , unlocked bootloader, rooted , stock recovery. i have 70gb free , no freeze , no reboot

Uninstall ES File Explorer. It is malware and can have serious impact on stability of your device.
Looks like the problem may only be affecting Samsung memory...? Has anyone had any issues with the Toshiba chip?

Is Mate 9 6GB (AL00) now ok in the UK?

Hello
I want the Mate 9 6GB version. I've searched the forums as much as I can understand and found that Wondamobile seems to be the legit place I can buy it from for the UK but there's still stuff I don't get and any help will be appreciated:
1) Will the AL00 international version be in full English, with google play and full UK functionality working on UK SIMS in the UK? (conflicting answers on their website maybe due to different dates)
2) From what I read I understand google play may work but does that also mean will everything else be ok? I mean, is google play just one aspect of it, but the rest may be in chinese (like settings, facebook, email etc). Or if google play works can I be certain that basically it's totally fine and will be a UK phone. I don't want a Chinese phone that just happens to have a UK version of Google Play on it!
3) Can it be rooted?
4) Would I be able to run my own Nova Launcher (pro)?
5) They say they refund any customs - does anyone have experience of this? (I don't see how/why they could)
Thanks in advance even if you can only answer 1 or 2 of the above
As I know, there is only chinese model Mate 9 that has 6 GB RAM. It can be rebranded onto international firmware, so you can use Google Apps same way as you're using international model Mate 9.
Sure, it can be rooted
You can use Nova Launcher (there were some troubles with specific functional, don't know does it hurt you). Search thread in Q&A.

That's very helpful thank you.
Yes wonda have replied to say that it should be fine too.
they also say I'll be able to do updates without losign the google play which is great.
I've the 6gb version. It's AL00 but I've rebranded it to L29c636 in essence the international version. I have no a launcher working perfectly too. All apps work apart from a Barclaycard app. Google integrated so no issues on that front. I bought mine from Gumtree, a chap has his folks send it over and he didn't want it. Paid... £600 for it! It's a brilliant phone.
Ah thats helpful thanks.
Im having second thoughts about the phone now though having seen techzilla's 1 month update review on YouTube. He claims the battery is rubbish and no better than S7, iphone etc.
Are you finding its not much different or does it seem to last more?

Having owned iPhones since the first generation I can only rave about the Mate 9's battery performance. I'm getting 10h+ SOT out of it, couldn't be happier.

Can I ask what firmware version you have in case you don't have the updated one which may be the cause of the alleged problems?

B156. Aside from B138 I've always hit the 10h mark with all other fw versions.

Why 6gb ram? Android can't work with more than 4
Mate 9
From what I've read that's contentious. One plus 3T only allow 4GB unless rooted but does huawei do the same?
If so I'll just buy one in the uk
My suggestion is to buy whatever is sold and supported in your region. Unless you realy have a knack for tinkering just get a device from an authorized local retailer and spare yourself the headache of having to deal with customs, rebranding, cross-flashing, etc.
Legal warranty = peace of mind. Just my 2 cents.

Well techzilla is talking out his rear end. I had the S7 edge exynos, got rid of olive after a few days for the Mate 9. The battery life is fantastic. I absolutely love the Mate 9 (6Gb Duane sim b158) and the battery life is why I love it so much. Also, when the time comes the battery is pretty easy to replace...
I'll tell you something, a lot of these review sites talk rubbish and hype. I did my own research, based on videos and then going out and trying. The Mate 9 had the best battery life of any smart phone I've owned. Period.

THanks mate yeah with the replies I'm getting here and his BS comments of getting a whatsapp every 3seconds and an email every 7 seconds etc I'm coming to the conclusion that there's a bit of BS in that review. Not a single person seems to agree with him.
Out of interest - how do you find your 6GB version? Do you find you are going beyond 4GB usage at all? Is it useful for having lots of progs in memory? Or using the camera (I red somewhere high RAM is useful for cam). If you do go beyond 4GB RAM usage are you noticing more battery drain with this?
Sorry for all the Qs but if I'm gonna drop close to £600 on this thing I want to make sure it's worth it!

are you saying b138 was better or worse battery?
have you tried the newer b172/4/5?
to use more than 4gb dont you have to edit some build.prop lines?
