No. There is a very strong suspicion at most of the hardware for it is present (notice the extra contacts on the back and corresponding insulating pads), but no official back cover.

Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal and so won't directly interfere with magnetic fields. Aluminum is a conductor which means eddy currents are a significant issue. This should be solvable by adding a cut to the back plate. This could also be worked around by drilling holes through the back and having the coil attached to the outside of the back.

I think if we were going to get a wireless charging back replacement we would have already gotten one ages ago. I miss wireless charging alot but I've been using one of those wireless charging pads that plug into the USB port and hid behind my case. It works pretty well just wish I didn't have to sacrifice my USB port.

But neither of those solutions are likely to be done and it is far more likely we won't get wireless charging and much more likely if we did a plastic back would be released.

Would a plastic back be that bad? I suspect LG isn't going to bother though.

not really but yeah i doubt lg will release it considering the v30 is more or less here.

With this metal back, it's not possible to use wireless charger. However, you may try using a USB type-c wireless charging receiver from third-party brands.

I know but I want the USB port to be free to use without having to plug and unplug the wireless charger every time.
I lost trust in smartphones' micro-USB ports after the third replacement of it in my Nexus 5. So I now fear any unnecessary stress on it.

I noticed a wireless charging setting in build.prop -- I was considering changing it from a 0 to 1 and tossing er' onto an LG wireless charging pad but I am sure if the hardware is indeed there, there is more than just a build.prop setting to turn it on.

I do understand your concern .. you may use a high quality accessory or wait (as i do) for LG to make a wireless charger.

Half of the hardware is almost certainly there, mainly the control chip for Qi/PMA charging is almost certainly there. Problem is the coil for receiving power is absent, this would look similar to the NFC antenna around the camera opening on the back. I've got no idea which of the back contacts connect to the chip that is almost there and thus not enough information where to attach a coil to.

This is rather late for LGE to release a charging back. At this point they almost certainly plan not to.

Hello, I have started a thread for technical discussion of the feasibility of our own DIY hardware mod/hack for LG V20 so it can support wireless charging. I hate those plug-in Qi adapters, I think at that point you might as well just charge your damn phone normally

don't use a rigid hdmi cable and adapter

it'll bust the connector pretty easily.
This scares me, as I ordered an HDMI cable from Amazon months ago and immediately broke the connector on the cable upon insertion. I thought the cable was defective; hopefully I didn't break the tablet connector as well.
What is the difference?
I'm going to buy a mini-HDMI converter for my TF101, so what do you mean as a Rigid cable?
Can you post a photo of the connector you used?
Thanks for the warning.
yeah please do more explain about this cuz i got a mini hdmi while ago but haven't tried yet. i was thinking of using it near future....
Just to share my experience, I used this HDMI cable from Amazon. I just checked my mini-HDMI port, and aside from finding some peanut butter in it from my daughter (we have some talking to do!), I don't see any permanent damage due to the cable. I don't have another cable to check with though.
I have a mini-hdmi to full hdmi adapter that I use all the time - I'm gentle with it and have never had an issue. I wonder if there are different parts used across the production life of the transformer and some are, perhaps, more brittle? I hear quite a few people saying about quality issues and I can say that I am impresses with the TF101. Though it's a replacement for an Archos tablet it couldn't be worse than that. They have terrible build quality.
I have a similar looking cable but cant say it has ever caused any problems .......
Maybe be a little less aggressive with the tf lol

I've been using this cable from monoprice and have had no issues at all.
Also when i'm using my cable, i'm usually not moving my tablet around. Just plug it in and set it down.

Such a useless thread! You say something nonsensical and then you disappear. You probably tried to force the cable other way round into your slot, so it broke. Or you were simply too forceful as someone has already said.
Some HDMI cables are poorly made. The metal for the plug sits very shallow in the plastic and even a small amount of pressure will cause it to bend out of the plastic breaking the wiring inside.
I had to find an HDMI cable with a 90 degree bend in the end for a tight fit behind a TV. I had 2 previous cables pop apart simply due to the pressure of hanging out of the back of the TV and curling down towards the Blueray in the cabinet below.
While I do agree the OP should have posted some more information. HDMI cables are easy to break.
O.

But wait, there's a micro hdmi version on the Prime! These connectors lack the depth to establish a good grip before making contact, very easy to screw up. If the barrel was deep enough, you can at least feel that the components are property mated.
I'm using the Mini HDMI connector that came with the Nokia e7 and this works perfectly. No movement or no signs of breaking my HDMI port.

That explains what happened to my cable. I noticed the cable connector was bent so I decided to fix it. I applied some force to make it straight. After that it didn't work. It was very costly bend.

Note 4 WIRELESS CHARGING Pins

Any ideas which are the wireless pins on the Note 4? I am asking because I don't want to wait for the wireless pads to show up on Ebay... I am planning to modify a similar wireless pad and adjust it for the Note 4 in the meantime...lol (I did that already with the Note 3...by using the Note 2 wireless pad inverted...)
My guess is that the 3 pins in vertical alignment in the upper right are the pins...

Looks pretty similar. Don't have to be the same, but then..why should they reinvent the wheel?
All I know is that if AT&T pulls what they did with the LG G3 they will be losing a customer.

ATT is fully behind PMA now, so they requested their version of the LG G3 to not have Qi charging pins, instead opting for PMA pins. This meant that even if you bought the Qi Charging back covers for the LG G3, it still wouldn't be compatible with the phone.
While I'm super hopeful that the Note 4 will retain the Qi Charging pins, this agreement was only very recently, so we can't rely on the same treatment that the the S5 was given (allowed to keep Qi pins).

Just received my wireless charging pad and tested out the pins. So look at the picture above... there are 2 pins that needs contact. The first is the top pin (the single pin) on the right hand side. The second is the second pin down on the left hand side. Hope this helps. It should be pretty self explanatory when you receive your charging pads as there are only a few possible positions, so even if you don't know the pins just move it around and you'll find the right pins.
I have the T-Mobile Note 4. The charging pads I got were from Ebay. They were about $10 each. Good quality, very thin, and is working fine. Shipping took awhile, about 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

Nexus 5X melted USB port using charger from Google Store

Woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of burnt electronics and melting plastic. My Nexus 5X was very hot to the touch and the plastic around the USB connector was melted. The charging cable (Universal 15W USB Type-C Charger purchased from the Google store) was also a bit melted and was stuck, but came out without too much force. I called Google support today and they are going to replace both the phone and the charger.

Has this happened to anyone else?
It would seem to me that this is all the more reason to purchase chargers directly from Google; if I had not, I imagine this could all be blamed on an after-market cable.
That's a first for me. Haven't heard of this happening with the 5X yet.
Do the pins on the cable connector or the phones USB port look bent or are making contact with each other?
Glad that nothing bad happened mate, i for one will only be charging mine in the daytime while I'm awake! I find that the phone only loses a few percent overnight and the fast charging on usb-c means it can be topped up quickly while i get ready for work etc.
Let's hope this was an isolated incident - glad you are ok though!

Actually, my understanding is that third party cables could damage the source of the charging, not the 5X (i.e., a power brick, a computer's USB port, etc.). This is because the 5X tries to pull more juice than the source can handle.
If I am right on that, then your issue is completely unrelated to the issue with 3rd party cables.

After further research, I believe you are correct. It appears that this was either an issue with the phone's internals or Google's charger shorting out. Either way, I'm still glad it didn't happen with a 3rd party cable/charger for warranty purposes.

Just for the heck of it you might want to check the voltages in your home if you can. Although it does sound like a faulty charger since this is the only report of it happening.

This is not caused by voltage but by the charged supplying to much current.
Also the chargers are often certified for 100 to 250 volts or around that and is switched, spikes or even a minor spike in voltage will not cause this.
This is probably a bad wire or bad control ciructry in the device(s), depending on source. 3A is quite alot considering the small wirs used in the cable.
You was lucky.
It could have been ended badly...

Do you have used the original charger that is shipped with the phone? And which kernel have you been using, the stock one?
after a bit of research, i found that this problem does not apply only to nexus 5x, its mostly on the port fault either on the cable or the phone , something is shorting inside the cable ( bent leg ?)
My USB connector melted too with the original usb cable and charger (then I tried with other cable to check whether charging was still working, and it melted again). Unfortunately I bought the phone while I was traveling to the US, I can't send it to RMA here in Brazil...
Luckily I was awake at the moment and could hear and smell the plastic melting... The plastic piece of the USB cable got stucked inside the phone
Just a nice article on USB Type C cables.

My only suggestion is o check the cables before charging. SInce this is the original cable, I can only assume it was faulty to begin with.

Charging port (plastic around it) - scratches

Hi guys,
I know it's no biggie and it's my OCD forcing me now to post that but that's what i've noticed upon closer inspection of my charging port.
As you hopefully can see on the photo, the plastic around the micro USB port has a couple of scratches/grooves.
Now, before you blame it on me, let me assure you that I'm very gentle with my phone and everytime i put it on charge i never force anything.
I know the plug has quite sharp edges but the plastic shouldn't be that prone to scratches, should it?
What about you guys?Have you noticed anything similar on your phones?
Thank you in advance

I've got old man's eyes, but even with bifocals I can't see any scratches on mine. And if I could, I'd just ignore them.

Hmm...no scratches on yours...suggesting different ,more durable material used perhaps?[emoji33]
Paying attention to negligible details, I know[emoji12] l'll get over it, eventually[emoji13]

I didn't think to mention that most of the time I use a wireless charger, but I do plug it in sometimes. Maybe after more use I'll notice scratches, too.
Mine has 2 marks in the same spot it's just a rubber water seal.. marks are from inserting the charger they line up perfect
Same here , there are two small grooves on mine , caused by the two spring retaining locks of the micro usb
Are you serious? Jesus ocd stop it.

Maybe I should try that too[emoji4].
My only concern would be battery health. I know it gives you this ultimate convenience and all , but from what I've read wireless charging is not as efficient as the wired one. Lost energy turns into heat, and your wireless charger can get quite warm during charging. This causes stress on the battery as it sits on the mat...
And that of course , is a red flag for a craaazy guy like me[emoji12]

I started using a Qi charging puck on my LG G3. And on that phone, it generated quite a it of heat. I'm still using the same (non fast charge) puck on the S7, and it doesn't get warm enough to notice. Maybe because the S7 is designed for wireless fast charge, the lower current of the regular Qi charger isn't enough to bother it.
I'm using an older version of this one. Cheap enough to try and see. You need to use a charger with at least 1.8 amps to run this. The one that comes with the S7 works fine.

yeh my one as well but too late i discovered it. now i use wireless charger whenever possible
I know what you mean with this. I don't use USB often on mine so it doesnt have anything on it. I would recommend wireless charging. Its what I have done since day one.

I guess we'll have to either live with that or switch permanently to wireless charging...One way or another, it's time to hit the bumpy road to acceptance
What has this world come to. Can't believe I'm even replying to this thread...

Keep it that way then

FPC Battery Connector for main logic board

Hi guys, is there anywhere I can get a fpc battery terminal for the logic board as per image attached? one of the brass prongs got caught in the battery and pinged off to my horror!

Gutted is an understatement!
@turbotux If it's *just* the connector you want, and you're happy/able to solder it to the board, you can get it here.....
http://www.fonejoy.com/genuine-sams...edge-j1-j5-battery-connector-3711-008737.html
I personally wouldn't touch a hand soldering job like that, and I have been regularly using a soldering iron on all sorts of kit for over 20 years. The connectors are invariably microscopic and the potential to cause other, accidental damage is too high.
But if you want to try it....fair play and good luck (I think you'll need it).
Having actually had a 'close up' look at the connector, the solder points are bigger than I thought they would be (I've hand soldered smaller contacts). It would be possible to hand solder, but you'd need a *very* fine tipped soldering iron. And preferably one that produced a lower level of heat than a 'regular' soldering iron.

Thank you so much for the response, it appears the solder points are big enough, look it's broken each way so it's worth a try I guess.

Yeah....you have a broken phone right now so why not try it? Just be *REAL* careful....There are a number of surface mounted components in close proximity to your work area....
Damaging them through accidental contact with the soldering iron (or even simple heat transfer along the board) is a BIG possibility....
---------- Post added at 04:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ----------
One final bit of advice (though you probably already know this) 'tin' or coat the solder points on the new part before going near the board. It'll help minimise the length of time the iron is in contact with the board.
I have a soldering iron with a 'home modified' reversable tip. You can see in the picture, at one end is the standard 4mm tip while at the other is a 1mm tip that tapers down to practically a needle point. This is the end that sees the most use, and it is that size of tip that you're going to need.
Just to update, I managed to solder it and it still did not work unfortunely so I've bought another n910f handset, these things happen. However the cause of this I think is down to the extended battery I had pulling on the whole module, I'm going to be running the stock batteries I have from now on.
A worthy purchase however is the extended battery I've picked up for those long cycle rides which should easily see me through, for interest its a 14000mAh Logic3 which I picked up from Maplin for around £40 and compared to its 30000mAh Chinese predecessor it totally kicks ass.
A expensive lesson learned here....
I've gone a slightly different route with my S5 and wife's N4. I have 3 batteries for each and an external charger for both types.
The spare batteries are standard capacity, but they're made by Anker.
Batteries get rotated so there's always a good battery in the phone, one that's charging and a fully charged one waiting for use.

Yeah the safe approach, I'm going down this route also, thanks for all your help
Yeah....It also minimises wear on the micro usb socket built into the phone...which is one big weak point on these devices.
