Does installing Lineage OS solve the noise and pink tint when recording videos? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

These are the two problems I am currently aware of with this phone. My phone will arrive on Saturday so I was just wondering if installing Lineage on it would solve
1. the noise which you can hear when recording videos and taking calls
2. The pink tint which you get when recording 4k videos
I am also aware that there is no official build of Lineage for Moto G5/plus
Does anyone have any estimate as to when that would be out?

1st Law of XDA... NO ETA!
2nd No, lineage doesn't fix red tinted corners... Latest stock fix noise in videos.
Official Lineage will come when it has to. People are working on it.

Cheers!
And yeah I know I shouldn't ask for ETA but I thought thats only for bugging the devs by flooding them with ETA questions. What I'm asking is just how long does it usually take for a phone to get a new rom.

[Q] Stock Camera

It's not news to anyone who owns a G2 that the stock camera has a few issues in low light scenes.
Specifically:
Video recording goes lower than 30 fps (and of course 60 fps)Still pictures are slow to take
The question: is this an actually issue that has been officially acknowledged by LG? G2 is still new on the market so I'm pretty surprised that not a single announcement has been made regarding those issues.
P.S.
I am aware that unofficial fixes are in the making

I share the same question as you. The device needs a very very steady hand to get the iphone crushing pictures I'm looking for. It gets there with a lot of effort. moving objects ALWAYS exhibit motion blur and video capture at night, although much brighter than other cameras, is very mushy soft and very choppy. Looks embarrassing next to family i5 and note2.
Is LG aware? Have they acknowledged? How can I bring it to their attention? Is there a link or address?
Call lg and tell them... That's what I did about the camera lens scratching. I would try a new camera app and see if it helps... I use the Super Camera here on xda and it seems to work great

Is there ANYTHING that ACTUALLY fixes the garbage camera in CM12?

I've searched XDA, I've searched Reddit, I've searched countless forums with ZERO success. I've tried Lenovo Super Cam, I've tried installing the LG Cam, I've tried flashing in the HTC cam. Nothing fixes the smeary, awful framerate and as a result I've taken exactly zero good photo or video on this phone in CM12. Is there any hope for CM or AOSP ROMs? I'll sell this phone before I end up putting an LG-Stock ROM on this thing.
I'm looking for stable framerate in photo preview and video preview, regardless of light on CM12. Does this holiest of G2nicorns actually exist?

CM12 is pretty old. I personally don't have that much issue with the camera anyway. It's a driver issue, which could explain the framerate, but the quality is pretty similar. Could you maybe take a couple of pictures and show us what the difference is?
Not sure how a photo would illustrate a low frame rate but this video shows the sneariness and frame drops. This isn't my video but the performance is similar or worse. It's the same for the photo viewfinder and that makes it impossible to take a photo or video in anything but glaring sunlight.

That's how it works though, the aperture remains open longer to capture more light, which causes less frames per second. Try recording the same thing on a stock rom and let us know how it goes. But then if it's a driver thing you can't do anything about it.

All I needed to know. That LG Stock ROM is a flaming trainwreck, and if there's no fix for AOSP or CM I literally am better off getting a new phone.

Well the video you linked IS a stock rom. There's no fix because it's not an issue, it's a camera characteristic. It's like saying a monitor doesn't display 120hz being a 60hz monitor. It doesn't, and if it did, it'd have some drawbacks. If you want steady framerate lower the iso.
It's still a phone camera, and a pretty good one at it. I'm not sure how people sometimes forget that. If you find a smartphone that matches a DSLR in the camera department and is around 200$ let me know.

The stock ROMs used to have the issue as shown in the video above, but they don't anymore. I don't know where but when I bought the phone and used 4.2 the camera was busted, and when I upgraded to 4.4 stock it was super smooth. And that's what I'm looking for, but only on AOSP or CM. No frame drops and a smooth, consistent 30fps or 60fps just like the stock ROM currently does. The stock ROM is an awful way to use this phone. I bought this phone when it was one of the cheap $180 unlocked devices posted on Phandroid with the strict intention of not using LG's C- effort. If it can't be done, it can't be done. No big deal.
There's a million threads from 2013 and 2014 that list "Oh use this, use that! Try Lenovo's camera! Flash so and so's fix even though the files are literally nowhere on the internet!" and literally nothing solves this issue in the slightest. I figured in 2015, maybe someone would know of a definite fix.
All 5.0 AOSP roms have a crap camera, including 4.4 AOSP.
Flash any 5.1 AOSP ROM for the G2 like BlissPop or Euphoria, it looks like Google got their **** together in 5.1. The camera IS better than CM12, but still not as good as LG rom.

Lol, this doesn't look like g2 at all. At least not compared to mine. The main reason I am not running aosp is the camera. Running aosp g2 turns into bad nexus 5 pretty much (imo). Not just the camera, there are tons of bugs there. If you want good camera - go with stock, as simple as that. LG camera drivers and ois makes videos very smooth. Grab a Rom with advanced camera drivers and install xcam. Fhd 60fps at night as good as in daylight. I will send you a video of mine if you want so you can see what I am talking about.
But yeah, aosp = ****ty camera, and there's nothing to do about it. Sorry

05-04-2017 BAD NEWS - CONFIRMED! Red tinted corners when recording 1080p60 videos!.

Hi guys!
UPDATE N°2: Ok, so.... Lenovo knew this at least 3 months before launching and did nothing about it... How we know it? this...
GitHub commit on MotorolaMobilityLLC
Sad to knew that knowing that this phone have a design issue, they did nothing about it.
UPDATE: we have recieved a final answer by Lenovo. "Suck it up". Read it by yourselves.
MattForumsMgr answer on Lenovo Forums.
So sorry for all of us that Lenovo have so useless developers that don't know how to turn off an infrared light while the camera or even the display is turned ON. SHAME on Lenovo for this. Help me make this public. This cannot be an appropiate answer.
END OF THE UPDATE.
So, i noticed this since day one but i thougth that i was the only one and that probably i had a deficient unit, but now i have confirmed with at least 4 more moto G5 Plus owners (all of the from Latin America) that they are having this issue too.
I'll post a few videos so you can see clearly what am i talking about.
So, as you can see, there is a red tinted corner on the video. This happens only when your record 1080p 60 fps videos.
Here you can see a video that i recorded on a retail store with the same phone (In spanish relating this to a friend of mine that have a recognized tech blog in Chile. Video N° 1 is my video and N° 2 is recorded by the exhibition device. [NOTE: it is not a dummy phone. In fact, i even sent the video from that g5 plus to mine using android beam (NFC and bluetooth)].
Now, a video recorded by a reviewer from Mexico that also noticed this. (Min 11:50)
And for the last, a video recorded by another friend (sent by telegram, so it is compressed)
So guys, i need you to tell me if this is happening on your variants or not. Please report saying where are you from, if you have or not this issue and variant that you have.
I'm from Chile, I have this issue and my variant is single sim XT1680, 2gb/32gb.
THanks you so much guys.
P.S. I added a poll so it would be easier to quantify the people affected by this.
Tomorrow my dad is getting this phone too, so i'll probably check with him and upload another video!
Same issue over here... Bought in Mexico, 2 GB version... TBH it seems something related to software, maybe an OTA would fix it
Enviado desde mi Moto G (5) Plus mediante Tapatalk
No issues here...
Using Indian 4GB variant XT1686
Edit: It is there in low lightning or dark situations.
Thanks for the reports... Till now it looks like is only happening on latam variants...
Here! Lenovo forums for the issue!

UPDATE: so i have just recieved a report from a guy from india saying that he is facing this issue.... 4gb variant too... keep reporting guys! the more that we know, the best that we can do to reach lenovo to fix this
UPDATE 2: another guy from lenovo forums is saying that he have this in india! @kaustubh_lipare can you check again? remember that it is on dark/low light conditions and recording on 1080p 60 fps.
Same issue here..

My apologies for the previous post ( Edited that one ). Earlier i did the recording outside in day light so did not notice the issue. But in dark or low light conditions the problem is there. Below is the link for the sample video recording.

OK, so, in the Lenovo forum, MattForumsMgr (from the motorola staff) said that they will look onto this...
Also, a friend of mine have contacted Moto Chile, and they said that they have escalated the issue to Moto Mexico who are the people in charge in all LATAM.
How do I record video at 60 fps? I want to test it on my phone.

Swipe from left edge of screen to middle when in Camera App. It will give you the camera settings menu. In the Video section, select Video size(rear). You should see an option for Full HD 1080p (60fps). Select it and you are good to go.
The problem only occurs when you are trying to record video in the dark or even when there is a black object close to the edge of the image(in my case upper-left or lower-right).
On a broader note, I see a similar but lighter red-tint when I try to use professional mode camera at 3200 ISO setting in dark or with black objects. So, am guessing this has something to do with the image processing algorithms.
Same issue here in photos. When u try too use manual mode with high ISO say 1600 or 3200 this red tinted corners are appearing.. Attached are the sample photos...
It is caused by the infrared sensors. This can easily be patched by Moto. They just have to deactivate the sensors when the screen is on or when the cam is on. Let just wait
I am assuming you meant this issue is due to the camera sensor capturing the bursts from the infra-red LEDs used for proximity sensing.
This has nothing to do with those since when Camera is in use these LEDs are turned off. You can notice it if you see the camera assembly through another camera before and after launchinng the Camera APP.

Yes.. I think you are right. In manual mode keep the ISO at 3200 and take the camera far near to any object. You can see the alternate change at left and right side of screen. I think we just have to wait for the fix. Hope Lenovo will patch this soon.

Request to all rooted custom rom users of S7 edge exynos international variant !

Hello all tech mates hope your buddy would be doing well than mine , which has all the issues from paint peeling around usb port to not charging due to moisture even it was never even near to water and from blurry cameras to bad wifi and bluetooth problems , but recently i just wanted to confirm a thing from rooted custom rom users of S7 edge exynos international variant, who were experiencing blurry front camera or vertical stripes in low light , does after doing rooting and installing custom rom , front camera was on par ? I mean good enough like other flagships of 2016 , because if it would be a samsung software problem , it should be eliminated by custom rom , and if its hardware problem , then no chance of any success, also confirm me that using custom roms can make us do multitasking when we receive incoming call, i mean during incoming call notification screen before we accept or reject a call, as it is impossible to do currently in latest official unrooted OS because we cannot pull down notification menu or use home or recents key. Thanks so much respected members.

Yes, the front facing camera is better on AOSP, but the rear is definitely worse... In some roms you can disable the phone full screen popup. You can with Ressurection Remix, but not sure about other roms

Video recording sound quality

Hi guys!
I'm about to buy this device, but I read that bad microphone audio quality bug affects this mobile too. Even my current Redmi 3S had this issue, but luckily there is a patch for this device, which fixes this issue and in theory it can be ported to another devices too:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...fix-fixing-bad-sound-video-recording-t3523171
Sadly I don't have the knowledge to do this, but I wonder if someone could make a Magisk version of this for lavender. It would help a lot of people.
It will be great If anyone could make a fix. Terrible sound recording while Metallica concert 2days ago.
There's a fix for AOSP roms, that maybe works in MIUI too , I use miui.eu and I tried to flash it, and audio seems good now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...-improve-audio-recording-video-calls-t3939963
