Is it possible to get Nougat on the 935U yet? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have a Verizon S7 Edge that I flashed with the 935U firmware when I got it. I'm reluctant to go back, I don't really want to do with that process. Also, I don't want the bloatware. Are any of the Nougat ROMs that are floating around compatible with my phone? Do I have to wait for the OTA if I want something official?
Thanks for any help.

Still nothing the 935U. You can check for yourself via the link below.

Saikumar B: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung technical support. How may I assist you?
Visitor: I have the unlocked USA Galaxy S7. I see that Android 7 (Nougat) has been released for nearly all the versions of the phone EXCEPT the unlocked USA version. When can I expect the same update that other users in the USA have already received?
Saikumar B: Just to confirm, are you referring to Galaxy 7?
Visitor: Yes. SM-G935U
Saikumar B: We have a dedicated team to assist you on the product that you are inquiring about. Please stay online while I transfer the chat to the appropriate department for further assistance.
info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited Samsung Agent.

Tejaswini N: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung Technical Support. How may I assist you?
Visitor: I have the unlocked USA Galaxy S7. I see that Android 7 (Nougat) has been released for nearly all the versions of the phone EXCEPT the unlocked USA version. When can I expect the same update that other users in the USA have already received? SM-G935U
Tejaswini N: I see that you are looking to update your phone to Nougat.
Visitor: Yes, I do want to update to Nougat. Almost every other version of the phone seems to have already been updated, including USA Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. I don't understand why the unlocked version has been ignored.
Tejaswini N: Please click on Settings>About Device>> Software Update and check if there are any updates available.
Visitor: I have done that task many many times on many many days. The system responds that Android 6.01 is the most current available update.
Visitor: Can you point me to a location on the web where I can download the update on my own?
Tejaswini N: Please help me with the zip code of your area, so that I can check if there are any bestbuy stores available in your area.
Tejaswini N: I would like you to inform that, there is no such file available to download to install the latest update on the phone manually.
Visitor: Zip is xxxxx. I don't know why I should look to Best Buy for assistance. I bought the phone and all the accessories directly from Samsung. And to be frank, I spent *-a lot-* of money to get this phone, a Samsung SD card, two wireless charging stations, and the VR visor. Now I find out Samsung seems to be ignoring one of its flag-ship phones.
Tejaswini N: Once you visit the Best But store, they will verify the update through the tools available in the store and will assist you in updating the phone if there are any and it will be a free service.
Tejaswini N: Below mentioned is the Best Buy store near your area:
Tejaswini N: xxx
Tejaswini N: xxx
Tejaswini N: Contact details: nnn-nnn-nnnn.
Visitor: Thank you for your polite answers. I doubt that the Samsung Store at a Best Buy will be very helpful. But I'll see what they say the next time I am at a Best Buy.
Tejaswini N: Do you have any further questions I can assist you with?
Visitor: I bought my Galaxy 7 during the Galaxy Note fiasco, as a way to show my support for Samsung. I now see that my faith in your ability to provide timely support was misplaced. I probably should have bought a Google Pixel phone.
Visitor: Thank you for your time. I have no further questions.
Tejaswini N: Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support, we appreciate your business. If you ever need to contact us in the future, please save and reference this chat transcript.

My support conversation was 12 April 2017. (I removed a few words which identified the specific conversation ID.)
We all see so many threads about the new S8 and I think to myself, "Will Android 'O' be offered for the S8?" Given my experience with the S7 I don't have a great deal of faith.

But yeah, this really sucks. I might actually flash back to stock VZW firmware in this case. Huge bummer though. Thanks.

Nougat is out now for the 935u https://mega.nz/#!zgFzzAYY!_Vo6tr61lwG8XaZNpFqkupaucsRRCv-6ULKylG38uyI

[Q] febuary update

i have a telus lg optimus 7 unlocked and now on the sasktel network. my question is am i screwed for getting these updates because sasktel doesn't recognize the phone as one of there models and i am not on the telus network so they wont push it to me? i cant justify paying 400 bucks for a phone that i cant get the new updates the Microsoft rolls out.
If you do not get this update, you will get the next one (By mid March) definitely. Microsoft has confirmed that much. I contacted Telus, and it seems they have "no information to offer at this time". Basically, Telus is the only carrier in North America that has yet to offer update for their WP7 devices, but two weeks is not that long to wait, right? Especially considering that this update does...nothing, and all updates are cumulative.

I'm planning on giving Telus a few more days before complaining loudly, as the rollout was to be staged, so maybe they volunteered to be last on the list :|
Personally, I'm fairly concerned about this as Telus doesn't have the greatest record for updates in the past, and holding this back isn't a good sign (imho).
Even if this minor update is rolled into "no-do", there's no guarantee "mango" won't be an 'odd numbered' update, or that we won't be weeks behind others getting either/both.
From the windows phone team blog
(http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...-answers-about-our-first-software-update.aspx)
Q: I still haven’t received an update notification yet. When can I expect it?
A: It’s hard to predict because it depends on many factors. It could be days—or even weeks—before you’re able to update your phone.

So as the rest of the world gets copy/paste, theoretically we telus users could just be getting the pre-nodo update.
I'm right there with you I had the same thought when I read that article. I don't understand why Rogers and Bell both have launched it but Telus hasn't I tweet'd customer service about it and they answered back they had no information about unreleased updates.
I am hoping that maybe Telus wanted to "save us" from the trouble of doing 2 updates in a fairly short period of time. At least we know that they can't block nodo. Out of curiosity does anyone know how Telus is with android updates?

I've been looking around all the standard places for more info but haven't come across anything. My fear is that the wp7 userbase on Telus is small enough that they don't consider us a priority.

They're mediocre at best.

I hope that we are considered a priority. I'll do my part and call and bug them maybe if everyone jumps on board we'll get this update.
i spoke to sasktel and they have already rolled out the patch on there network. but because my phone is telus branded and the zune software see the phone as telus it wont give me the update. sasktel does not recognize my phone for updates so i would assume that's because they don't sell the phone.
I'm in the same situation as you kazman. Have an unlocked Telus branded Optimus 7 running on the Bell network, and wondering if I'll get the update when/if Telus releases it.
Will report if I do.
I cannot believe we can't find a solution to get the update...
Like Android, installed custom ROM of WP7 to avoid carrier blocking.

So I emailed client care about the update, (your gonna love this)
"Hello Justin,
Thank you for taking the time to write to TELUS via e-mail.
Windows has not released any official updates yet. Please refer to the following link for details:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-info.aspx
When an official update is released from the manufacturer, it's also posted on our equipment page specific to your phone:

Thank you for using TELUS' online service and have a great day."
So I have emailed back asking that he double check the site and not just send me to the page that tells people what the next update is but infact to check the update page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/update-history.aspx) Still waiting on an answer but it's great that they took the time to really look into it So I have emailed back and shown them the link and also shown them Bell and Roger's pages releasing it as well as a few carriers with the same phone (LG Optimus 7) that have released it. (because you know that's where they would go next) Will post results on here if I get them.
that is completely ridiculous. i called a telus store yesterday in Saskatchewan and she told me that they don't know about updates and recommended that i move the date on my phone ahead a year and i should get the update then. but she had just told me a minute ago that there where no updates. they need to get a clue.
So it seems like Telus just doesn't know what to do with updating the phone. I am a bit surprised and doubtful that Microsoft didn't tell them though. It just shows a huge lack of communication within Telus.
as I posted in the other thread, I talked to a telus rep who also no idea about the update; but was able to confirm they didn't have to pay MS for it, so we should be getting it.
I've got a 10 year old account with them and made it clear I would be willing to switch carriers if they dropped the ball.
Hopefully we can get enough people telling telus the same that they'll get their act together.
i would like to know why we cant just get the update from the zune software. and if a carrier such as telus hasn't released the update how does the zune software know not to offer you an update or does telus need to respsond to microsoft that the update is out on there network. how about a new rom from bell or rogers that would solve all our problems.

It's going to be something like that (e.g. telus tells MS it's approved, WinPhoneUpdate sets the flag to allow it).

I'd assume going to a differently branded rom would solve it, although that'd likely negate access to the telus app store. Another potential issue is that the telus optimus7 is a different model number from the european one. I have no idea which version the mexicans got so there may not even be a viable alternate rom. :|
An unfortunate truth
Look guys, this first update was OPTIONAL for carriers. It did not provide any new features and was just a test update before the real update in a week and a bit. Unfortunately for you guys, TELUS decided to not push this one in favour of just sending one update later. You shouldn't be upset at TELUS ... yet. I had an Android phone with them before and just about lost my mind over the update issue, but I think WP7 will be different because MS has more say than the OEMs do regarding Android. I feel bad that you guys are suffering, but it isn't really TELUS' fault.

That doesn't really disuade any concerns.
It's not just a test and no user visible features does not equal not necessary - think API changes before mango
My main fear is that something I'll deem critical will be in one of these minor updates, and telus will make me wait 6 months till the next major update instead of just pushing me the fix.

I concur, as this is hopefully a unique/one time scenario, which is why I'm waiting to see what they do with NoDo before complainging too loudly/switching carriers

Just because I feel like nitpicking (I'm just being a smart-ass, don't take it seriously/personally ):
There are three "entities" involved in getting my phone updated
1) Microsoft - they've released the update, not their fault
2) Myself - I've connected to my computer and forced zune to check for updates, not my fault
3) Telus - They're not pushing the update for whatever reason ... pretty sure it's their fault
optional or not this still makes telus look bad when all other major carriers in canada are pushing this update but not telus.

There's a technical requirment that makes them unable to disclose when the update will become avalible... doesn't make too much sense but I do agree with all of you. It's not that I desperatly want this update or that it's really negativly effecting me in anyway, it's that I fear this pattern may continue on to updates that improve the phone. We'll see what happens in March hopefully Telus pulls it together or at least has a better answer then just because.

Dear Mr Dark,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We know you are eager to update to Android 3.1 software. We are working on the schedule for the regional upgrades. Each region will have slightly different timing due to specific regional requirements, and features may vary based on availability and other factors. When we have more details about the schedule, we will post them. In the meantime, we caution anyone considering the use of Motorola XOOM software that is not specifically intended for their region as this can seriously damage your device.

Oh well... Not only dont have it yet, they dont even have a schedule for it!
I guess only US Wifi Xooms are Google experience devices. All other Xooms are much slower in updates
This is very disappointing, I'm a UK user of the Xoom 3G and can't understand why the update can't be released over here now....

Agreed! I'm a Canadian user, with a Xoom bought in Canada, and I'm in the same situation. How hard is it for Motorola to release an update for us? I bought a Xoom instead of waiting for a Tab 10.1 specifically because the Xoom is supposed to be an "experience" device and I thought I would get quick updates; I'm fed up waiting for my Samsung Galaxy i9000m to get updates and figured that updates for the Tab 10.1 would be delayed also. Oh well, I guess both companies are just as bad as each other when it comes to updates.
Canadian wifi user as well. Flashed US firmware (damage my ass!). Got 3.1 update. Me = happy. But I did back up the Canadian version first if I ever wanna go back.

That is because it wasnt Motorola who pushed US Xoom Wifi only 3.1 update, it was Google (they apparently used US Xoom Wifi only devices for their work/testing = you get update instantly from GOOGLE, not Motorola). And For all other Xooms (non US Wifi only devices) it's now Motorola's responsibility to release (probably with some changes, b/c of driver's languages etc), and we all can see how it's going.
That really sucks IMO.
I believe the main issue is Google's international copyright efforts...they haven't set up all their products for international use so they have to strip those items out of the external update packages. In Canada, for example, we don't have Google Books and we don't have customized voice input like they do in the U.S. I would be we won't get Google TV either so I'm guessing they need to strip all that out before they distribute further.
Google needs to decide if they're an internal manufacturer or not...!

Samsung S7 Edge Samsung Pay Not Compatible

Just got my S7 edge Verizon version from Best Buy. Samsung Pay is not include as an app. I am not able to download from google play stating it is not compatible with my device. It's not even rooted yet LOL..., Samsung website clearly states that S7 and S7 edge are compatible with Verizon....
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to figure out the same. Someone told me to go to the Samsung Store, which I remember having on S6...but it's also not on the S7 Edge. Only thing I can think of now is to sideload the Samsung Pay apk from apkmirror?
Also interested. There aren't very many of the free wireless chargers being given away with this promotion.

I am going to try the apk. I will let you know how it works.
Just picked up my S7 Edge from BB today, no Samsung Pay here either.
It is to be released on the 11th for the s7. Just after the charger promotion is over.
Go to the galaxy apps widget, sign in, go to my apps and there is a Samsung pay in there. It isn't the widget, but the framework. Download and update. Then the Samsung apk worked. You might want to see if the Play Store works after making the framework update, but if not the apk did for me.

Below is the chat I had with Samsung..... Short version....they will release the Samsung Pay for Verizon on 3/11/16. But I am not sure I believe that....
You are now chatting with 'Sameera V'. The reference number for this chat is 4305640821. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
Sameera V: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Dredq: Hi I followed advice that I was emailed by Samsung and I still cannot download Samsung Pay
Dredq: I was told to erase data and cache from google play which I did
Sameera V: Hi Dredq, I will be glad to assist you with the issue you are facing.
Dredq: States that Samsung s7 edge Verizon USA model is not compatible with Samsung Play.
Sameera V: To assist you better, may I ask you a few questions?
Dredq: I have started a thread on XDA and multiple people are having the same issue
Dredq: All with Verizon phones
Sameera V: Okay. Thank You for the information.
Dredq: This will be a huge problem when phones are officially released on 3/11 by Verizon rather than being sold by Best Buy
Dredq: What info do you need
Sameera V: Have you contacted the carrier about this issue?
Dredq: No
Dredq: It seems like a Samsung Google play issue
Sameera V: Okay.
Dredq: I used an APK to download Pay and it functioned
Dredq: I got an update and the app crashed
Dredq: Update was for Samsung Pay
Sameera V: I should inform you that, Samsung Pay on S7 or S7 Edge with Verizon as their carrier, the Samsung Pay app will be available this Friday ie, 11th.March.
Dredq: I used 1.3 when using 1.6 it does not work
Dredq: So why would the new version of Pay not work on the VZ phone
Dredq: Are they releasing a new version just for VZ phones on Friday?
Sameera V: I do understand your concern. Please install the application and use it after 11th March.
Dredq: Let me try to explain
Sameera V: Sure.
Dredq: I downloaded and installed the latest APK of Samsung Pay. It did not work on the VZ phone. If I used the old 1.3 version it did work until I got an update for the new version of Pay.
Sameera V: Just to confirm, was it working on the same phone?
Dredq: The new version of Pay does not work on VZ phone unless there is a specific app for VZ phones being released on Friday. Is that the case? Or is it that Google play will determine that it is compatible? Yes it worked on the S7 edge, but only the 1.3 version
Sameera V: Thank You for the information.
Sameera V: Yes Dredq, it will be available on Friday.
Dredq: I am not the only person having this problem. If you look at XDA you can see others are having the same issue
Dredq: So are you saying on Friday there will be a new version specific for the VZ phones
Sameera V: I agree. However once the update release, the issue will be resolved.
Im able to install from the play store, but with the free wireless charger expired, I have no reason to. I'll likely be returning this phone anyway, I'm not at all impressed. Chrome especially performs poorly.

This APK is the newest Samsung Pay and will work with VZ S7 and S7 edge.

LG G Stylo - Cricket H634 - Marshmallow will be released by LG.

Hey guys,
Trying best to help in hopes of us having the LG G Stylo marshmallow update for cricket. After contacting LG, happy to know that we may be receiving the update for our device. See response below from LG:
"Hi, Thank you for contacting LG US Electronics. In response to this inquiry, the LG G Stylo will indeed receive the Marshmallow update for the Android system. However, at this time, I’m afraid we have no final release date yet even though some devices have already received the update. The reason for the release date variation is because software updates follow a certain process. For Android, it is faster to receive updates on Google products (for phones, that’s the Nexus line) or on unlocked/rooted units wherein the update may be installed manually (although not supported by LG as this is a customization). For carrier-specific devices, this may take longer and will vary. After a phone manufacturer like LG prepares the software with the help of the developer (Google who made Android), the update will have to run through carriers like Cricket in order for them to incorporate carrier-specific features – and also test the new software thoroughly on the network. After some collaboration, the carrier will then approve the update and push it out to your device which will then be downloaded and installed through the network signals from your carrier. As such, you may also directly correspond with your carrier if they already have an estimated date for the release of the update. In case that there’s none yet, I’m afraid we’ll still have to wait but please be assured that the G Stylo will indeed be updated to Android Marshmallow like the G series. We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any other question, please feel free to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 800-793-8896. Thank you again for contacting LG! Have a great day ahead and a lovely week! Kind regards"
There is hope afterall! lol
they had previously said June of this year which hascome and gone. Now there is no date at all
And So, When we can see Marshmallow?
I don't think we are! Never heard of a phone that didn't get a single update. Should be class-action lawsuit or something.

S8 Active and using it in germany. Possible? Problemes?

Hi everyone!
I am from germany and right now I own a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and wanna upgrade. So I thought of importing a unlocked S8 Active (the outdoor version of the normal S8) to my country. I will use it for geocaching things and in this case it should be nearly perfekt (big accu, waterressist, ....)
I don't like the normal version cause I don't like the curved display. Think the active version should be the better choice for me.
Will it work there in german language and will it get updates here in germany? OTA or so? Or will I have problems with it. Maybe I had to use Samsung Updater (Smart Switch) on PC but better is it when OTA would work here too.
Can I repair it in my country, when something goes wrong or must I send it back to the USA for repair? It is cheaper to repair it here and sending it back it is maybe more expensive than it could be.
Maybe someone can answer my view questions, cause this is nearly the smartphone I like, but it is not officially sold here from samsung, so I had to import it.
Greetings!
I would say .. DONT
A Samsung update killed all my sensors. and no warranty here.

There are thousands of users with this problem. for their S8 S8+ Note 8 etc
Stay away from Samsung. Their products are not what they appear, starts deteriorating and slows down. a lot.
I know you are not interested in the Curved screen but just my thoughts. The curve screen is more of a problem than its looks. Many apps do not respond well with the edge touch. for a Tempered Glass you need to pay a lot else they do not work well with the curved screen.
Advice
Stay away from S8 and if you want S8 buy it locally else Samsung has devised up ways to mess your phone pretty bad.
Buy something from your area that would help you and those are better in Utility and 1/4th the price.
Language and updates should not be a problem.
I got some import phones and it wasn't a hard deal to change the system language to german or other.
OTA should work too, because the phone doesn't care if you're in Germany, China, USA or elsewhere. As long as it can connects to the servers, there should be a update possible.
For the repair part, I can't tell you a thing.
I'd say, that you ask all the questions to Samsung's support.
According to frequencycheck, LTE and all other will work just fine in Germany.
Only thing I see is, that it will come with tons of bloatware, which you can (mostly) just deactivate but not uninstall.

Sadly the two stuffs you stated ain't accurate.
Samsung has messed up my phone with their latest update.. There are thousands of customers who are facing this with their s8 / s8+ and Note 8
Normally anyone with commonsense would know that an update is pushed, only when a device is compatible. But the service center guys shamelessly answer that this is country specific
Which brings up the second question.
You may ask whom so ever. SHAME sung doesn't have International Warranty.. I brought this from the Middle East.
Couldn't sell it as I was relocating ... now just because of a Samsung update, mine and thousand other phones are messed up

That's more than sad for you.
But for me, I never had a single problem with my S8 (newest update) or with the Samsung support (and I consider myself as a heavy user, who modifies and complains a lot).
Also you are the first one S8 user, whom I heard of, that there is a problem with the phone. In addition, I could not find any regional (Germany) information or bigger complaints of the latest update. Several of my family members have no problems, not a single of the ones you stated in your original post. FYI, no one of them flashed other CSC or things like that.
THAT may be a country specific problem (as you stated in another post of you, that your s8 is from middle East imported to India).
So your service center guys are correct, that some things are country related like date of a new update, push service etc. But, the phone will be an import just like yours and I think it should get updates, at least via pc (smart switch).
I think, if the OP would buy an unlocked version, he wouldn't have to flash other CSC or anything just to get it working (but again, better ask Samsung support).
So please, discuss your anger and warn other (potential) users in your topic and not under someone, who just wants to know if the S8 active will function it germany (which it should).

Thanks LOL
To the OP
There is a link in this forum itself about the problems I just mentioned

US customers
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/35901/page/5
The Service Center head here himself disclosed that there are many many such cases of the same issue after Update. All S8 S8+ and Note 8.
Some Handsets were from Middle East, Most of them were from US and they had even come across those from S Korea too.
As others have already told you, OTA updates etc. won't pose a problem, though if the S8 Active you're buying isn't from Europe (e.g. the US version) you usually have to use it with a SIM card in the corresponding country, meaning you'd have to have a 5 minute call with any old person in the US, otherwise the phone won't accept your SIM and you will be unable to place calls etc. in Europe/Germany.
So just keep that in mind.
Hi from Europe
Can someone with s8 ACTIVE confirm if the latest update messed up their phone. And if so please attach the screenshots where I can see which update this is.
I'm buying used S8 ACTIVE from US and I would like to check if the user didn't updated their phone yet ?
Tnx
