Ability to root and or remove ads for 6th gen on 5.3.2.1 - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
So its been a while since I have been in the rooting game. But I just picked up a fire hd 8 running 5.3.2.1. I checked this via the system updates page in settings.
Now from what I have read and searched so far, it appears that this os version is not rootable. It appears that only 5.3.1. or 5.3.1.1 can be rooted, or if running 5.3.2 it can be downgraded. Otherwise its brick time, see this post.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70556236&postcount=38
So it appears that I am pretty much stuck at the moment, is this correct? At this point I havent even turned on wifi, so its still pure so to speak, and I havent registered with Amazon.
Also failing being able to root, can I remove ads from the lockscreen through another method?

nothing? or has this already been explained elsewhere.

You can't root or remove look screen adds thou you might be able to remove the ads by asking amazon, I did that and they did it for me twice.

I got rid of the Lockscreen ads. Install noroot Firewall. Disable Amazon specific things and let other apps/services pass through

@mrchrister can you please explain to us how did you do that, as a'm expecting my fire to arrive next week.

Just got my Fire HD 8 that came with 5.3.2.1 unfortunately. I contacted Amazon chat to see if I can remove the Ads and this is was transcribed:
Me: Hi i purchached a Fire HD 8 and i am happy with the tablet but not the ads that pop up on the lockscreen. This tablet is for my child and I don't want these shown to him nor him clicking on it. i was not aware of these ads can you please tell me how to remove them or i will want to return it. Thanks
You are now connected to Ryley Rose from Amazon.com
Ryley Rose: Hello Heather, my name is Ryley Rose. Thank you for being a Prime member! We really appreciate it.
Me: No problem
Ryley Rose: I'm sorry for the ads showing up on the Fire tablet. I understand that you'd like to remove it. I'd be happy to check and help you.
Just to confirm, does the ads showing up when he tried to access Apps?
Me: it shows up on the lockscreen. so when he turns on the device
Ryley Rose: Oh, I see. Thank you for confirming.
You are now reconnected with Ryley Rose.
Ryley Rose: I'm sorry our chat was disconnected. I'll try to pick up where we left off.
Can you tell me the name listed at the upper left corner of your son's Fire tablet?
Me: ******
Ryley Rose: Is it the Fire 7 or Fire HD8?
Me: Fire HD8
Ryley Rose: Thank you.
Me: the Fire 7 is no longer in my possession
Ryley Rose: I see. It's alright.
Normally, by delivering these offers to your device, Amazon is able to offer tablets with Special Offers at a lower price. Special Offers and Sponsored Screensavers include offers on device accessories or products from our digital catalog, including Kindle books, apps, games, and MP3s.
Me: oh okay
makes sense
Ryley Rose: If you purchase a device with Special Offers and later change your mind, you can opt out of Special Offers from the Manage Your Content and Devices page for a fee. The fee is the price difference between the Kindle with and without Special Offers.
Have you purchase it directly from Amazon?
Me: No it was purchased at best buy
Ryley Rose: Oh, I see. Would you like to proceed to remove it?
Me: will i be charged to remove it?
Ryley Rose: Yes. The normal fee is $15 tax excluded.
Are you aware of it?
Me: No I was not
Ryley Rose: I'm sorry to know that.
Me: Well if you are going to charge me for removing ads I don't want, then forget it.
Ryley Rose: Understood, Heather. Let me try to check what I can do about this.
Me: ok thanks
Ryley Rose: You're welcome! Trying to consult my lead about this.
Me: Understood
Ryley Rose: Thank you, Heather.
Thank you as well for waiting.
Me: Your welcome
Ryley Rose: As an exception, the Special Offers has been removed from your son's Fire tablet at no cost.
Please connect the tablet to WiFi so that you'll receive a notification about the removal.
Let me know if you receive a notification about the removal.
Me: Great! thank you Ryley.
Ryley Rose: You're most welcome!
Me: I got the notification
Ryley Rose: Perfect! I'm really happy to hear that. Thank you for checking.
Would there be anything else I can help aside from this?
Hope that helps out some folks trying to remove the annoying ads.

@forster i thought i got rid of them but they keep coming back. best way is to pay the fee or talk your way out of it

(resolved) Amazon not giving source for Kindle HD 8.9"

Amazon finally made its act together. Thank you everybody who contacted them.
Amazon almost made available source to Kindle HD 8.9" on their site at http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...e=UTF8&nodeId=200203720&qid=1353523318&sr=1-1
When you try to get the http://kindle-src.s3.amazonaws.com/kindle_src_8.1.2_user_1211420.tar.gz file you'll get access denied, so the source is not really there.
I tried to resolve this with Amazon for almost a week now and I guess I can use your help in that.
If all of you go to kindle support (after verifying you still cannot get the source) and complain to them about this, they'll eventually agree to file a ticket with their tech team. The more of you who can do this the better.
If you complain a bit more about how this is very unacceptable for Amazon to not being able to correct this simple problem for so long (and I first contacted them on 18th), they might give you some free money:
$(Amazon Representative of the day):As an apology I have issued $10 promo in your account.

Please give it a try and I hope we can get it before the Thanksgiving hits, so some of us have more useful info to play with during this extended weekend.
Thanks.
I just went to the amazon website and its still the same as before. I have sent in an email with hopes that they reply as soon as possible. hopefully they resolve or do the same as before.

Got Scammed on HDX on craigslist. Its stolen

Just bought 2 kindle fire HDX on craigslist and one ended up on the stolen list!!! This sucks as it was my sons christmas gift. I contacted amazon and they said just keep it but it cannot access amazon services. Is there anyway to bypass it? I know you can sideload apps but i cannot install a file manager. I tried contacting the person that sold it to me to get a refund and also tried returning to amazon but both came up empty. Any help would be appreciated as i have tried to do the right thing. Please let me know. My daughters kindle is fine so i need to try and get this one working.
Panic not!
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210417 and grab the apk for es first then install the 1mobile app from here http://m.1mobile.com/1mobile_market-79873.html and you're good to go.
Edit: or just install 1mobile and grab es from there
Further edit: i'm assuming silk works? At work at the mo so cant check to make sure you can install apps from silk
Last edit: If silk cannot invoke the apk installer use adb install /path/to/app.apk (/sdcard/Download I suspect) and if you cannot use silk at all, download the apk on to a PC, use adb push then adb install

That worked awesome! Thanks !! As far as this clown stating not to buy stolen products, if I would of known it was stolen do u think I would of purchased it? I hate thieves!! I contacted amazon and tried to get it to the rightful owner. The thing was brand new and sealed.Im sure that ruined someone's gift as well as almost ruining my son's christmas.. There are still good people on this world.

Knowing Amazon they've already shipped a new unit out to the poor chap(ette) who's Kindle went walkies.
Wish your son a Merry Christmas from me!

Just won a Kindle Fire HD on eBay which gives registration error ... work around?

I just won and paid for it today (hasn't shipped yet) a Kindle Fire HD that receives the message "There was an error while registering your Kindle. Please try again later" when trying to register it on an Amazon account. It didn't have any bidders so I bid cheap and one thinking there must be a fix for it so I can register it with my Amazon account. So could I do it?
If not I can still root and put a customer ROM on it and access the Play Store right? I would like it to work with my Amazon account too though as I have a lot of books purchased from there.
So what is the prognosis for this?
Yes, that sounds like it will be easily fixable with a custom ROM, but it also sounds like you may never be able to register that Kindle on stock OS.

Would I be able to install a custom ROM and be able to register it with Amazon?

Unless you pick Kinology, there is no real "registering it with Amazon" on a custom ROM. You will be able to download the Amazon Appstore just fine and log in, if that's what you were wondering.
Sent from my Amazon Tate using Tapatalk
If you really wanted to use the stock software or Kinology, you could spend about $35 and get a new motherboard, and swap it out with the old one. Once you power it on for the first time with the new motherboard, Amazon will think it's a different Kindle, and let you register it.
A bit of a drastic step, but... it works.

How to get rid of ads "special offers " on the lock screen no root no PC

Pretty sure I found a way they will work a lot of the time
Step 1. Go into the help app
Step 2 click on contact via email (they reply fast)
Step 3 click on problems with lock screen /notifications
Step 4 click on seeing notifications
Step 5 use this text in the describe the problem " I would like to disable the intrusive ads on the lockscreen at get in the way of seeing my wallpaper."
And then they will most likely disable special offers after that
Wrong. I got sick of the ads to the point I paid the $15. But what for? They don't let me uninstall the 'Special Offers' App after paying. If I had to guess, I would say they don't even turn the ads off and they just place wallpapers over the top of them. I totally had forgotten about this until I saw your post. I will be calling hem or emailing them to ask them to remove the app altogether or refund me my $15.

Why is the previous poster "wrong"? Understand you are fussed about the app remaining after paying $15 USD but most folks are simply happy to see the ads disappear even if downloads still occur in the background. To each his own - there is no "wrong" or "right".

You're right. I could've used better words. I can understand how most would be happy with that, but most don't understand or even know it still runs in the background or wherever. I just feel like it's a scam is all.
i just wanted to say thank you, this method worked perfectly! Saves me $15
Worked for me.
Just registered to say thanks! Worked for me.
My Fire 7 screen died. I have a Fire 8 on the way. I'm going to ask if they'll transfer my 'ransom' payment from my 7 to the 8...given I only paid to have the ads removed less than two weeks or so ago.
Wow, something similar in german worked. And I got a reply within 15min at 10pm today, on a public holiday, wow
But the reply states that it is a 'one time exception from their policy' to remove the ads. As long as you only have that one device, it's ok.

Did you use the same text I did?
It worked ! Sent your email before I went to sleep and their answer was there when I woke up:
I'm sorry for the inconvenience you've had with the ads on the screen of your Fire tablet.
As you requested, I have disabled Special Offers on your Fire.
Please understand that by unsubscribing, you'd have been charged $15.00 for the price difference between the device with and the device without Special Offers. *******But I made an exception and waived off the charge and unsubscribed the special offers on your Fire tablet.
Please turn wireless on, and the next time you connect your device wirelessly, it will complete the process of unsubscribing from Special Offers.
If you've further queries, please let us know so that we can help you in every possible way.

Best regards,
My Fire 7 screen died so I got a Fire HD 8, used from Amazon direct for $51. Here is what I saved: Apparently when you unsubscribe from 'Special Offers' by paying the fee, it applies to new tablets as well. I didn't ask if they could apply the payment from my Fire 7, it was automatic. So -$15 there. Amazon technicians are either too busy or don't care. I was checking storage when I noticed it had storage on the SD card...well it doesn't come with a card. So -$15 again because I got a free card (retail about $13-15). In the end, a brand new Fire HD 8 is about $70. I pad $25 after the savings. Not bad at all.
I tried this, except I told them the ads were inappropriate. It worked and my ads were removed in just a few minutes.

Thanks so much! I literally sat there for about two minutes and then I turned my kindle on and saw that there were no more ads. Then I typed in my PIN and saw that my Special Offers app was uninstalled!!!
It Worked!!
Just registered to say thanks to William I copied and pasted your reason and within ten minutes lock screen ads are gone and so is the offers app!! Thanks a ton man!!
I can't believe it actually works

Yes, this tablet is perfect. And you can easy root it with k4y0z method or diplomatic's method.
Thanks and how i can remove the Special Offers?
I'm not sure if this applies to newer models, but on my HD8 2016 if you never register to Amazon you never get special offers. I haven't seen one ad since I've owned it.

There are 4 ways To remove the ads, With root, you can uninstall them. A program called automate, and from what I seen through a Amazon customer service chat. Or pay the extra money.

I have never gotten ads on any amazon tablet I have owned that had special offers. The only tablet I have ever registered with Amazon is my old 8.9. Sometimes it made downloading the OTA easier.
So i shouldn´t register the Tablet and cancel the First Wirless Lan Access right?
I would like to install Playstore and my favorit Game and Netflix,Skygo and something more Apps.
Guys, before i make any changes, can i make a full backup for warranty that i can just go to restore Orignal Amazon FW without root or any changes
My suggestion is to ask amazon to remove them if you have the ad's. You don't need root to install the play store or apps you seem to be interested in. To make a full backup, you need to be rooted. But looking at what you want to do, just fire it up and use it. There is currently nothing preventing you from changing your mind and deciding to root. I don't like automate cause it is an application being used in the background. Many have reported that just contacting or emailing amazon has got their ads removed. Worst case is they charge you 10-15$ and credit is back from what the thread said. Check out the thread under general. If you don't register you wont have access to the amazon stuff (amazon video, amazon app store, and etc.
