Got Scammed on HDX on craigslist. Its stolen - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" General

Just bought 2 kindle fire HDX on craigslist and one ended up on the stolen list!!! This sucks as it was my sons christmas gift. I contacted amazon and they said just keep it but it cannot access amazon services. Is there anyway to bypass it? I know you can sideload apps but i cannot install a file manager. I tried contacting the person that sold it to me to get a refund and also tried returning to amazon but both came up empty. Any help would be appreciated as i have tried to do the right thing. Please let me know. My daughters kindle is fine so i need to try and get this one working.

Panic not!
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210417 and grab the apk for es first then install the 1mobile app from here http://m.1mobile.com/1mobile_market-79873.html and you're good to go.
Edit: or just install 1mobile and grab es from there
Further edit: i'm assuming silk works? At work at the mo so cant check to make sure you can install apps from silk
Last edit: If silk cannot invoke the apk installer use adb install /path/to/app.apk (/sdcard/Download I suspect) and if you cannot use silk at all, download the apk on to a PC, use adb push then adb install

That worked awesome! Thanks !! As far as this clown stating not to buy stolen products, if I would of known it was stolen do u think I would of purchased it? I hate thieves!! I contacted amazon and tried to get it to the rightful owner. The thing was brand new and sealed.Im sure that ruined someone's gift as well as almost ruining my son's christmas.. There are still good people on this world.

daily free app so should last one day or so..
you need to buy it on your PC or phone first before it can be downloaded to the TF.. purchase on the TF gives a 'device not supported' error.
The game itself is playable..much like the amazon version of PVZ..but the graphics are not optimized for the tablet..

I download and use the free apps from the Amazon app store on my TF all the time. I only have the Appstore installed on the TF, not my desktop. Not sure why you are getting the error about not being supported.
Edit: Ah, UK, maybe that's it.

This is an issue with Peggle, not amazon apps.
Clicking Get App from the Appstore application on the TF gives a device not supported error.
I got the same thing, from the US.
Instead, I went to the amazon website, clicked buy (for $0.00) and then went into the TF and went to My Apps and clicked install.

Seems that Amazon have got this marked as incompaible with the Transformer, Xoom & A500 but compatible with the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Wonder how much Samsung paid for that
Anyone know how to install apps outside the US? I live in the UK and tried to install a free app and it said not available to my country.

I'm from the UK and I followed this guide
http://android.modaco.com/content/s...tore-from-outside-the-us-including-paid-apps/
(I use the same US Amazon account to access the Amazon Cloud Music service, if you need to know how to get the Android App to allow you access to that let me know and I'll send you those details)
installed it in my xformer just fine. and its not for tablets really, the resolution for this game is def for phones, however it does fill the screen
I downloaded Peggle from the amazon app store and installed it on my rooted Milestone. Much like plants vs zombies it loads up and crashes after loading the logo and hourglass. Using the same apk I've got it working on a galaxy Vibrant and captivate. Could it be because my phone is rooted or is the milestone just not powerful enough to run it?

[Q] malware?

Just bought a Color Nook with CM7 on ebay recently, added a Kobo account, and a Gmail account to buy one app (Root Explorer, to try to get rid of the unnecessary phone icon - unsuccessful unfortunately - Is it an unremovable part of LauncherPro? maybe need to switch to Zeam?). A few days later, we had some fraudulent activity on our credit card. Is this just coincidence or could the Nook I bought have some kind of malware installed that could send someone private information? If so, is there some app that can scan the device for malware? Or do I need to go do a complete wipe and reinstall? I was hoping not to have to do that, which is why I bought a used device already rooted rather than buying a new one for a similar price and trying to do it myself. This is all new to me, so I was intimidated by the idea of bricking the device.
No, there is almost no chance that you have malware on your Nook. To be safe you could download lookout and have it scan but I am almost certain that they are unrelated. Virus are very much overplayed by news sites. There have been very few and all are removed from the market within 48 hours.

Thanks for the fast response. I'm not so concerned about the couple things I downloaded as what could have been installed before it was sold to me. Would it be possible for someone to intentionally install something and then sell the Nook that way?

It's possible but again highly unlikely. Just download lookout or AVG and do a scan. If nothing pops up your safe. Do be advised that AVG does not like SU. It is not a virus.

[VIDEO REVIEW] First Look at the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7" Tablet

In this video, I go over the camera, video playback, audio books, and a few other fun items.
Before you ask....
Yes, I loaded apk files on here that you would not normally be able to get from Amazon's Appstore. Most worked with no problems.
Nice review... the best that I have seen so far (inc the Verge etc)
Hey just wanted to say thanks for the review. I was on the fence about this and you sold me with the side loading ability. I loved the original Fire, and was looking forward to this. But after reading a few posts about it being locked, and now knowing if it will be rooted I was no longer sure about it. So side loading makes a huge difference.

Have you tried side loading the Play Store APK?[/QUOTE
The Play Store requires files to be manually placed into the /system/app folder and the permissions to be changed. That requires root. All of the other apps were either grabbed from my Nexus 7, or found elsewhere. I downloaded ES File Explorer from the Amazon Appstore, and used it to install the apks.
No PAID apps were harmed in the making of this video.

Can you side load a paid app you got from the play store and still pass the licence check?

Thanks for the great review !
The two apps I'm most interested in getting to work on a Kindle Fire HD are Google Maps and Google Now. I know there's no gps but I assume there is some kind of wifi based location ability ? Or just tell Google Maps where I am.
I figure maps shouldn't be too hard, what do you think ? I guess Google Now might require rooting though, is that the case ?
The device itself is pretty sick. But it's still stuck in Amazon's crappy software. It's like putting rims and ground effects on a Pinto; either way, it's still a Pinto.
Thanks for the review - I would like to see how the ComiXology app works but the fact that sideloading works takes a great load off my mind.
I'm definitely going to save up for the 8.9".

None of the Google Apps are going to work until we get root.
Be patient.
Can you tell me if Apex works if you just install the apk?
How did you get the camera launcher? Thanks

I obtained a camera app from the Play Store on another device, then I took the apk and installed it on my KFHD.

Just won a Kindle Fire HD on eBay which gives registration error ... work around?

I just won and paid for it today (hasn't shipped yet) a Kindle Fire HD that receives the message "There was an error while registering your Kindle. Please try again later" when trying to register it on an Amazon account. It didn't have any bidders so I bid cheap and one thinking there must be a fix for it so I can register it with my Amazon account. So could I do it?
If not I can still root and put a customer ROM on it and access the Play Store right? I would like it to work with my Amazon account too though as I have a lot of books purchased from there.
So what is the prognosis for this?
Yes, that sounds like it will be easily fixable with a custom ROM, but it also sounds like you may never be able to register that Kindle on stock OS.

Unless you pick Kinology, there is no real "registering it with Amazon" on a custom ROM. You will be able to download the Amazon Appstore just fine and log in, if that's what you were wondering.
Sent from my Amazon Tate using Tapatalk
If you really wanted to use the stock software or Kinology, you could spend about $35 and get a new motherboard, and swap it out with the old one. Once you power it on for the first time with the new motherboard, Amazon will think it's a different Kindle, and let you register it.
A bit of a drastic step, but... it works.

Fire HD 10 Question

I have seen this today by Amazon Fire HD 10 Gen 7 (2017):
https://www.amazon.de/Zertifiziert-...m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_r=VXSATV8TXBW4HXABD5VB
I have a Question for 89 € can i use it as a normal Tablet without Special Offers and can I run the Google Playstore on it?
Is it on Generation 7 able to remove Special offers and install Playstore
I need a cheap Tablet for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Skygo
Also i would like to play some Games like Punch Club should run on it

Yes, this tablet is perfect. And you can easy root it with k4y0z method or diplomatic's method.
Thanks and how i can remove the Special Offers?
I'm not sure if this applies to newer models, but on my HD8 2016 if you never register to Amazon you never get special offers. I haven't seen one ad since I've owned it.

There are 4 ways To remove the ads, With root, you can uninstall them. A program called automate, and from what I seen through a Amazon customer service chat. Or pay the extra money.
What is the Best Way to remove this and can tell me anyone, i would like to use Prime Video ,Skygo, Netflix with this Tablet also i would like to use the normal Play Store, so whats the Best way for it?
Anyone know can I made a Custom Rom on this Tablet? is it able? Lineage OS

I have never gotten ads on any amazon tablet I have owned that had special offers. The only tablet I have ever registered with Amazon is my old 8.9. Sometimes it made downloading the OTA easier.
So i shouldn´t register the Tablet and cancel the First Wirless Lan Access right?
I would like to install Playstore and my favorit Game and Netflix,Skygo and something more Apps.
Guys, before i make any changes, can i make a full backup for warranty that i can just go to restore Orignal Amazon FW without root or any changes
My suggestion is to ask amazon to remove them if you have the ad's. You don't need root to install the play store or apps you seem to be interested in. To make a full backup, you need to be rooted. But looking at what you want to do, just fire it up and use it. There is currently nothing preventing you from changing your mind and deciding to root. I don't like automate cause it is an application being used in the background. Many have reported that just contacting or emailing amazon has got their ads removed. Worst case is they charge you 10-15$ and credit is back from what the thread said. Check out the thread under general. If you don't register you wont have access to the amazon stuff (amazon video, amazon app store, and etc.
