Is it possible to cook a Windows 10 ROM that runs on BlackBerry KEYone? - BlackBerry KEYone Questions & Answers

I saw that Windows 10 runs on Xiaomi Mi 4.
Will it run on BlackBerry KEYone?

No. The device would have to be bootloader unlocked and rooted to allow this type of stuff. Given the priv wasn't rootable. It is reasonable to see that this device won't be able to. So I would not plan on seeing this at all and if you get the device it will be 100% what blackberry gives you.

[discuss] goodby microsoft!

I have been a Microsoft mobile user since the Pocket PC days. I will finally join the herd and have ordered a iPhone 4s phone. I am currently using an unlocked HD2 with 6.5. I have a Zune HD and love Windows 7 PC. Here's why I'm switching.
1. No encryption at rest. I have it with 6.5, but Microsoft has yet to release it on Mobile 7. I waited until the last release, but have now given up. I am required to have it for my company email. Microsoft really missed the boat on the business user.
2. The 6.5 interface is no longer current or cool. I'm in technology and I'm restless.
3. I'm tired of buying new phones just to get a new release supported by the manufacturer. Apple supports their devices despite carrier. I liked having hardwar options, but the phone is only as good as the software.
4. Fewer apps at higher cost. I'm actually not a huge fan or user of apps, but even bluetooth devices are introducing features specifically for Android and iOS.
The HD2 is a great phone (despite the over heating and rebooting when I leave my local network that I can't solve). I may see if I can use this forum to convert it to Android and give it to my daughter.
Well I am not all that familiar with WP7 as I do not have a WP7 device and I have never flashed it to my HD2. I have though had a opportunity to play around with two WP7 devices. The OS is buttery smooth, I just do not really like the tile UI on the home screen and I do not like the fact you have to use Zune to sync your device, it is too much like having to use iTunes with a iPhone, not a fan of this at all. I do have to say the updates it is getting is making it more of a usable OS, it finally has multitasking.
Now as far as putting Android on your HD2 I say go for it cause the HD2 runs Android very well and it is not that hard to do. Really not much different from flashing WP7 to your HD2. I like Android because of the freedom it gives me with my device. Also because Android runs so much smother than the native Windows Mobile 6.5. Do not get me wrong though Windows Mobile is a power house of a OS it had a broad spectrum of functionality. I just could not personally deal with the roughness and the constant glitches of the OS.

[Q] Blackberry run by windows, is it possible?

hello everybody.
i'm asking since i've tried to search anything similar but might be not my luck.
since blackberry device is becoming a mainstream device for business, i was wondering whether we can flash windows mobile 6 into blackberry device. IMHO, windows mobile 6 is the best UI and platform ever. however, i would prefer 6.1 pro over 6.5 pro.
in my opinion, blackberrry bolds are the best in term of form factor among all pda-phone-with-keyboard available worldwide. especially, bold 9790.

[Q] Visual Studios running on a Nokia 920?

Can this be done?
Could you install Windows 8 instead of Windows Phone 8 on a Nokia 920?
No can do on a Nokia 920? Will there be a smartphone that will have the hardware required by Windows 8 to make this possible?
I do understand that using some actual windows applications on a phone will be tedious and sometimes difficult. Its more a "Can and could if I wanted to" kind of thing for me.
BUT
Having Visual Studios, Win SCP and a lot of other software linked to the always on 4g internet...
in my pocket....
always available...
in that ooohhh so sexy red
I can't wait for that phone...
I have been able to do most of what I need to on my Samsung Vibrant. ES File Explorer has an AWESOME ftp option (and LAN!!)
But the screen is WAY to small to have code visible and a keyboard. Remote desktop has its obvious drawbacks, but I've used it.
Any thoughts questions of comments?
Thanks for reading my babble =P

ahhh, here comes the confusion from Microsoft's naming scheme....

No. There's no desktop on win phone 8. The ARM version won't support VS, even on tablets, though you won't be able to install it. Windows 8 RT(ARM) will only be available preinstalled on tablets.
If you've been satisfied with Android, and use features like a file explorer, keep in mind that many will NOT be available on win pho 8. If your existing phone is too small, consider the Galaxy S 3, Note, or other larger phones that are available on the market.
That's a shame! I had hopes that this would some how be possible.
Not even a modded version?
I have been following phone news like mad for 2 years. Pretty much since I got my vibrant. The S3 is AMAZING, but its android. There are things that I don't like about android, mainly fragmentation and its on going war with Apple.
I have had enough bad experiences with Android, for example :
1/3 into my 2 year contract with tmo and my Vibrant's USB port got water damage and I couldn't ODIN back to stock to install newer versions of Android. Also couldn't get the device fixed. Luckily I was able to do a factory reset every month or so as android just got useless. Frozen up at the unlock screen happens ALL the time, and usually happens with in a minute of reboot and isn't fixed until I do a reset. This didn't happen all the time, but always when I needed the device the most. For example, you have to reboot the device to get the GPS working after turning the option on, and of course BAM, phone keeps locking up. There has been times where I couldn't get to the dial a phone number screen, couldn't get visual voicemail to work and had a very important voice mail to check. took me 30 minutes to hear a 1 minute message! Than the time I was up till 8 am trying to get the phone to work because it was my only alarm clock and I couldn't get to the screen where I changed the time the alarm went off. All these issues are a result of having to root and mod my phone to get a newer maybe more secure version of android. I don't see a windows device having these problems.
Also, I am not a huge fan of Apple, but Apple has set itself up to deliver more complete experience's because of the control they have over there ecosystem. Apple TV's printers networks scanners and all that other stuff will just work with their phone. Well, I've been a user of windows for 15 years. Its what I know. I've been a windows developer for those 15 years. I don't see Google being able to provide that full functionality, I am not a fan of apple at all, and I think that Microsoft can get closer than Google. As it is, there isn't many devices you can plug into a windows system that windows wont be able to just start using. You know, this isn't windows 98 and older video games I'm trying to run.... lol
It really will be a shame if there is no way to get the desktop environment on my smartphone. Even more a shame when I could probably get a device compatible with Ubuntu's mobile stuff, and all the goodies that come with that. Wine, and now even Steam!
I don't know if this news sways my opinion of Windows Phone 8. I still crave the 920. My plan is to go out on Black Friday and get a top of the line device with full insurance for as cheap as possible. My next 2 years are not going to be a repeat of my first 2 years with a smartphone. November is still a few months off, and there is plenty of timed for other devices. Maybe even a decent smartphone with a Qwerty keyboard!!
I realize this post has kinda dragged on... sorry! And thanks for the replies!
[EDIT] The note is a great idea, but absolutely not an option. Douchtooths are the bane of my existence. And if I can't FTP into a server on a windows phone, why is Microsoft even bothering?
Nick
I have to say that it's unfortunate that you haven't had good experiences with android. I would think that the many devs on this site would have cooked up something that would fit your needs better, but if you broke your USB, then I guess you're kind of stuck with what you got. It's definitely true that android is very rough, especially with stock roms.
Win pho is there because it's targeting a different segment now. Win pho used to be something that was there to provide a feature rich experience. After WP7, "metro" looks
and interface idiot proofing has taken higher priority over actual functionality. As it is now WP8 has the least functionality when compared to Android and iOS, though it is supposed to be the easiest to use.
I would personally wait until a while after the lumias come out, and make sure that they do what you want before buying them. There are stories of people who bought WP7 phones thinking that they would have the features of WP 6.5. Those are stories of some very, very dissatisfied customers.
P.S.
No WINE on ARM ever. Remember, Wine Is Not an Emulator.

New to Windows 8 OS (Tablet) Need a few inputs

I have been waiting for a tablet version to come out for Windows and iam glad to its out.
But the same programs like, Epsxe and Snes9x, etc.. Programs like that , are there still able to be used on the Windows 8 tablet version.
I was looking into getting the Dell Latitude 10 the full Windows 8 tablet, not the RT.
Iam was going to use a ATT usb stick and use my iPad unlimited sim card plan in it to run LTE for data access while useing he tablet.
What iam scared of is that the tablet version just came out, and i dont know if theres enough apps out in order to use the tablet version of the OS, i just need a few pointers.
iPad 3 VS Dell latitude 10, pretty much IOS 6.0.2 VS Windows 8.
Also is Windows 8 open source vs Apple 6.0.2
This thread should probably be in general rather than development, but to answer some of your questions....
Windows 8 is compatible with almost all software designed for Windows 7. How usable that software will be with a touch screen depends on the software. All Windows 8 tablets allow for a keyboard/mouse to be used, either Bluetooth or USB.
Hardware compatibility with Windows 8 is also pretty much the same as Windows 7, though I'd recommend doing a quick search to see if there are any known issues with your ATT data stick on Win 8.
Neither Windows 8 nor iOS are open source.
Agreed on moving it to General; this thread is off-topic in Dev&Hacking.
Third-party open source apps may (eventually) be more common on the Windows store than on the iOS store; iOS licensing agreement is incompatible with he GNU GPL and probably several other open source licenses. This prevents the distribution of software under such licenses unless the entire development team decides to re-license the software for an iOS release, which is frequently impractical or impossible for larger projects anyhow. The Windows Store licensing agreement has explicit exceptions to enable compatibility with open-source licenses. This is why, for example, VLC can be ported to the Windows Store, but can not legally be distributed in the iOS App Store.

Will any of the bootloader/twrp guides for the regular axon 7 work for the mini?

I haven`t seen any dev support for the mini model...Will we ever get a bootloader unlock or even just root?

No, different SOC and kernel, the Axon 7 and Axon 7 Mini only share a name, otherwise they are completely different devices.
Patience, if it sells well enough and after ZTE releases the kernel source code we will see some activity... how much will vary on how well it sells, but when it's on sale for $199 it's a serious bargain and hopefully some devs will snag it up and bring some basic root/roms to the device.
With off-brand and low volume devices this will likely become less and less common though, with Marshmallow and newer OS's root and romming is being much more difficult. Even chainfire (primary developer of SuperSU) has said rooting stock devices probably won't even be an option within 2 to 3 years, and that the reality is Google could shut down all known rooting methods if they wanted too (which, luckily that doesn't seem to be a priority for them, or even on their radar at the moment).
id say no and it doesn't look like there will be much if any development at all on the mini. id just buy the regular axon 7.
