White Dots pattern in raw photos ZTE axon 7 - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi
Today I had an unpleasant surprise to shoot the first photos in Raw with the ZTE axon 7 and to discover a uniform pattern of white dots throughout the length of the photo ... anyone else has this?
Thanks
Edited:
The problem has been reported by other users or in official forums ZTE USA, so it is possible to think that this a very serious problem and could be a global hardware error of A7 ... May be this is the cause of the excessive processing of the JPG images of Axon 7.
Also, I also think that is why "camera2 API" does not Is available, which is why third-party camera applications can not be fully functional ...

I've had this as well. Usually, I lower the ISO and it goes away.

What app is being used to take raw pictures?

Where is the raw setting? Was 7.1.1 not meant to provide raw files support?

Hi RainofOranges... In this case RAW photos show a sharp pattern of white dots. Like a rain or snow over the total surface of the image.
It is a very serious problem and may be a global hardware error of A7 ... Maybe this is the cause of the excessive processing of the JPG images of Axon 7.

You can see te original raw file in this link

Can you post a screen shot or instructions on how to get raw mode enabled? I don't see anything pertaining to rawmode in setting in 7.1.1 stock. Thanks!

Hi gpz1100... I can tell how I do: Open stock camera... Go to Expert mode... open Settings (gear icon)... select "Save like RAW image"
The Raw DNG photos you can see in a PC or, in your phone, using a app for raw process (like Photo mate 3d).
The Raw photos do not show in galery, You must find this with a file explorer (I use "solid explorer")

If you're not running the A2017U variant rom then you won't find the RAW feature. A2017G and A2017 phones don't have it.

I am on stock a2017u
I see this
http://i.imgur.com/WvwbMVo.png
But in the manual settings, no raw setting.

Try find raw option in the settings of manual mode.
Apparently only in A2017U model raw is supported.
Another reason to be disappointed with the zte axon 7 ... And, on the other hand, continue enjoying the jpg of his camera, because the raw are disastrous (at least for now)

Ok! So one has to be in manual mode, then the raw option appears in settings (gear icon top left). I took a few pics but they're all saved as jpg's, not .dng. Where do yo special for it to save as dng?
If you can be precise with what is needed to duplicate your issue, perhaps more could chime in on their experience.

Try locating the .dng files on a file explorer? I don't suppose the stock gallery can see those files. Sorry if it's too obvious

With raw mode activated, two versions of same image are saved: a JPG and a DNG file.
The DNG files (raw photo) are saved in phone memory (not in SD). Conect the phone in a computer for download the image (in my phone: the folder "Camera" into "DCIM" folder) or use a file explorer for find raw photo (for my only "solid explorer" works for show and open dng files in edition apps with raw support, like Photoshop express, Photo Mate R3, Snapseed)...

Sorry!
I have the phone set to save pics to sd card. Didn't think to look in the internal storage originally.
Anyways, here's a sample I just took.
I opened it up both on the phone and with the pc. Don't see any dots.

Hello everyone, i'm having a problem with the photo editor app.
It doesnt matter how much i try, or what settings i choose, i cant manage to crop a photo correctly, as you can see on the screenshot, i can't manage to ''select'' the borders of the picture, that happens with any picturei choose, i can crop freely the ''center'' but the borders, it just can't reach.

So i guess the photo editor is showing the picture full screen instead of adjusting it to the screen, and as the code is written to only maximize to a specific part of the screen, its not reaching the ''full screen'' picture.
So i guess i need to replace with another photo editor APK?

Was a solution to this problem ever found? I have the same issue, when trying to crop a photo in the default photo editing app on my Note 3, I can't extend the crop area to the extreme left or right of the screen. The crop line sticks about 1cm from the edge of the screen and won't allow me to drag it any wider. Also I can't zoom out far enough to crop to the top or bottom of the photo either (they are obscured by the menu bars).
Andre
still doesn't work for me either
I still have this problem as above
Has been this way since I got the phone before kit Kat and after
Also after factory reset and rooting it
The crop tool won't let my drag all the way to the border of the photo being cropped
Is this actually a problem limited to a few ?

Shooting Raw on the Honor 8

Shooting Raw on the Honor 8
To shoot photos in RAW format, open your camera app in pro photo mode. Swipe to the settings from the right side of your screen and toggle RAW format.
When you shoot in regular mode on the Honor 8, your photos are compressed and exported to a JPEG format. When RAW is toggled, an uncompressed RAW image will be saved along with a standard JPEG formatted copy.
RAW image data
Shooting RAW photos will produce a file around 20MBs-30MBs on average. When you transfer these files to your computer to edit in photoshop, you'll notice that there is a lot more detail when adjusting color and contrast.

JPEG image data
The compressed JPEG that is produced when shooting in standard mode is usually between 2MB-12MBs in size. These photos are fine for applying filters and stuff but when adjusting colors or contrast, you'll notice you lose quality.
Thanks for the tip, you saved me time and space on my phone

HOWTO Enable RAW and video stabilization

The camera in the Moto G5 is capable of some relativity advanced features. To get to them the Camera2 API needs to be enabled. The Camera2 API replaces the deprecated Camera class since Android 5.
For instance in Open Camera you can shoot RAW photos or use image stabilization in videos if you enable Camera2. My RAW images are about 30MB so make sure you have space. You can also use apps that will tap into real slow motion. Both cameras will do at least 120 fps.

Here are a few tests I ran on the Moto G5. Looks like there is very good Camera2 API support in both the front and back camera. Zero lag shooting, slow motion, RAW and a ton of settings and features are supported.
Here are a few more camera apps that use the Camera2 api. It should be supported since Lollipop.
--
Open Camera: enable Settings/"Use Camera2 API".
A Better Camera: enable Settings/General settings/More/"Use Camera2 interface".
Snap Camera HDR (Trial): enable Settings/Other/"Use Camera2 API".
Camera FV-5: this uses Camera2 by default.
AZ Camera: this uses Camera2 by default.
Footej: this uses Camera2 by default.
Lightroom (which has a built-in camera using Camera2)
–
To enable just put this in your build.prop
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Then reboot your phone.
If using Open Camera go into settings and enable Camera2. Restart the app. You will not have the ability to shoot RAW and stabilize your video.
Thanks for the info, I starting to wish I didn't go with LineageOS now.
You will get a blank camera when doing on LineageOS.
Do you need to do anything with the G5, like root it or whatever?

I can't open using Photoshop or Lightroom. Google Photos do not synchronize this raw files I don't know it's normal or not. And with the Android Lightroom APK I can't do raw photos because it crash. I supone I have something wrong in the phone...
Hey! Could anyone give a quick step-by-step tutorial how to set this up?
-- Edit: Ok, found a good guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948558
He is talking about an older version of ES File Explorer, in the up to date version its a bit different to navigate to the right folder.
So essentially, you have to install the app, in the main menu tap the upper left corner for the navigation bar, scroll to "Root Explorer" and enable it. Then scroll up and tap "Local", in the dropdown menu tap "Device". From there its the same procedure as in the DroidModder's tutorial. Open the "system" folder, search for "build.prop", open it and choose the ES Editor to put this "persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1" at the end of the file. I did a backup of the original file, just in case.

Did you fix or find the problem? I got Oreo (Stock + Root) and still can't open this files. I made this post but still no replies :crying:
I'd say open camera is the best out of your api2 list, even video recording works on it when running oreo which on many other cameras it does not.

It happens in Stock 8.1 too. I hope someone shows up with the answer
It crashes in Pixel experience oreo 8.1 too. Tried dozens of modded cameras but none of them worked. They were unable to be decoded for Mobile Lightroom and Photoshop.
I have the Motorola Moto G5 Plus XT1685 version
So it crashes in custom ROMs too...

Try this to fix DNG files.
About the crashes, there's no answer yet but a "workaround". Take the picture, see it (from the camera application itself) and go back to camera interface.

MFNR => Multi-frame noise reduction
SR=> automatic scene optimization
Dual SAT => camera takes picture with dual camera and then combines them in one picture (every camera shoot's in her best optical range)
Anti banding option is i believe to remove bands caused from power lines (lights) and freq. in which they operate (60 Hz, 50 Hz or auto)

Just as I have been wrought in previous post on beginning of this thread it's "Extended touch-to-focus timeout" function if I have been translated this correctly on some on-line translation service.
Why they didn't translate this and include as visible option is beyond my knowledge but I can assume that's somehow connected with certain instability or specific issues during day to day work or using camera itself.

1 - Flash the Magisk Module in Magisk
2 - Install the GCam APK by URNYX05 (has to be that one ONLY)
(both files inside the link above)
(works on Android 10 now)
THANKS TO @Urnyx05 @xtreme @Arnova8G2 @eszdman @Makshow @defcomg @AcmE85 @S4turno and Marian

This is known, if you want to go to settings you need to be on the main lens

But on the first page, there are settings for each of the 3 lenses so how will I setup those settings ? Will they be updated from the main lens ?
has lens blur been removed? can't seem to find it anywhere

Each lens takes its respective settings which can only be accessed when the main lens is active.
Cheers
Toscha
Thank you

Humble request
When photos are taken on portrait mode, they get stored as a different album in the gallery instead of being stored in the camera roll
