What is Google Camera (AKA GCam)?
Google Camera is the camera app for the Google Nexus and Google Pixel phones. It is not designed or intended to be run on other phones.
What is HDR+?
HDR+ is Google's proprietary image processing routine. HDR+ employs image stacking to control exposure, and also to preserve details, reduce noise, increase sharpness, etc. It is an all-in-one package.

Manual camera

New app in the play store, Manual camera, from the makers of dslr camera pro. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2 . Nice to see an app with a great, modern ui which takes advantage of the new camera api. It has controls for iso, shutter speed and manual focus. Capture speed is also INSANELY fast, way better then anything else on the market now. I will try and take some samples later to compare with other apps with the new api, like a better camera and snap camera. Check it out, definitely worth a look..
I'm trying it now. Does anybody know if you can change the default camera app to the lock screen shortcut?
Looks like L camera on steroids and works good.

You can try this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-ultimate-android-l-lockscreen-music-t2844145 . It's a lockscreen replacement, looks pretty much the same as the regular lockscreen but lets you choose custom apps for the shortcuts
The stock lock screen also let's you choose a default camera app, perhaps clear defaults on the stock one?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah you can disable the stock camera app then open the shortcur, but for some reason it won't let you choose manual camera as the custom app
- No option for picture size
- No front camera
I've bought it, It works well, but suddenly it doesn't save my photos... I've tried everything, reinstalled the app, flashed 5.0.1 again from zero... WTF

I had this same problem...Try taking a picture with the stock camera (to save something to the default photo folder) then try with manual camera again. It should work.
I think the issue is that manual camera doesn't know what the save location is because its just following the stock camera's role. (Or something like that)
Bought it but refunded. It's not as polished as google camera. I can't use it for everyday photos.
Just installed it, awesome camera, needs some improvements though
Hey guys just discovered a camera app , fv5 which says that has more manual settings and works without bugs, does anyone bought this app? Does it really do what is says?

When I disable the stock camera, my shortcut goes away, so I can't select anything.
I really like Manual Camera, lots of settings that are easy to get to. It also takes pictures faster than the stock camera. I just wish I could access it from the stock lock screen.
After the latest update (v1.9 I think) you can now open from the lock screen shortcut. And yeah, fv-5 does have a LOT of options, I just prefer manual camera ui because you can adjust all of the settings without covering the viewfinder. Hopefully the devs will add more features soon, if it had burst and HDR it would be complete

You mean long exposure?
Set the shutter speed to a longer value and you'll have the closest thing to long exposure.
This is the closest I've gotten to getting long exposure with the right settings.

by longer value u mean the 0.8s choice? is there any way to make it 2 seconds for exaple or the exposure time is limited due to hardware?

I think exposure time is limited to hardware. L camera has a longer setting I believe (not too sure, dont have it installed at the moment) but a 2 second photo still looks quite amazing.
Thnx
Edit: Just installed L camera and it looks like it has 1.5 second shutter duration. Should be OK for quick long exposure. A stand will help a lot.

B387 update - Adds Monochrome mode in Camera

Hi Guys,

Here are the new modes they have added : Watermark and Monochrome :
Here is a quick test I've made :
The one in the middle is the "ND" filter mode, and the one on the right is the new Monochrome mode.
It's not super obvious, but I just found out that the ISO is often smaller with the Monochrome mode.
Another thing, in the Photo or Pro Photo mode, if I cover the right lens with my finger, it just says "lenses must not be covered..." but my screen is not covered and I can still take the picture.
In Monochrome mode, if I cover the right lens, I can see my finger.
Is it finally the real monochrome mode like the Huawei P9 ?

I think so! Finally we can take pictures with the secondary lens
However, I'd really like to have your opinion about battery life the update says "optimizes power consumption for extended use", so I hope there are some changes. I've had enough with the "Android System" sucking up +20% of my battery juice.

I can't say much about the battery life yet, I just got the update 3 hours ago. I will see after a couple of days.
And about this Monochrome mode, there is no settings, it's just like the auto mode. We can't change the ISO or whatever.

Can you include a few other files as well? Everything in these directories:
- /system/priv-app/HWCamera2/
- /system/cameraplugins/
- /system/etc/camera/
- /system/etc/media_profiles.xml
I don't know which of those (if any) would require root access, so if you can pull them all and upload them it would be a big help since we don't know yet what all drives monochrome mode.

HOWTO Enable RAW and video stabilization

The camera in the Moto G5 is capable of some relativity advanced features. To get to them the Camera2 API needs to be enabled. The Camera2 API replaces the deprecated Camera class since Android 5.
For instance in Open Camera you can shoot RAW photos or use image stabilization in videos if you enable Camera2. My RAW images are about 30MB so make sure you have space. You can also use apps that will tap into real slow motion. Both cameras will do at least 120 fps.

Here are a few tests I ran on the Moto G5. Looks like there is very good Camera2 API support in both the front and back camera. Zero lag shooting, slow motion, RAW and a ton of settings and features are supported.
Here are a few more camera apps that use the Camera2 api. It should be supported since Lollipop.
--
Open Camera: enable Settings/"Use Camera2 API".
A Better Camera: enable Settings/General settings/More/"Use Camera2 interface".
Snap Camera HDR (Trial): enable Settings/Other/"Use Camera2 API".
Camera FV-5: this uses Camera2 by default.
AZ Camera: this uses Camera2 by default.
Footej: this uses Camera2 by default.
Lightroom (which has a built-in camera using Camera2)
–
To enable just put this in your build.prop
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Then reboot your phone.
If using Open Camera go into settings and enable Camera2. Restart the app. You will not have the ability to shoot RAW and stabilize your video.
Thanks for the info, I starting to wish I didn't go with LineageOS now.
You will get a blank camera when doing on LineageOS.
Do you need to do anything with the G5, like root it or whatever?

Hey! Could anyone give a quick step-by-step tutorial how to set this up?
-- Edit: Ok, found a good guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948558
He is talking about an older version of ES File Explorer, in the up to date version its a bit different to navigate to the right folder.
So essentially, you have to install the app, in the main menu tap the upper left corner for the navigation bar, scroll to "Root Explorer" and enable it. Then scroll up and tap "Local", in the dropdown menu tap "Device". From there its the same procedure as in the DroidModder's tutorial. Open the "system" folder, search for "build.prop", open it and choose the ES Editor to put this "persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1" at the end of the file. I did a backup of the original file, just in case.

Did you fix or find the problem? I got Oreo (Stock + Root) and still can't open this files. I made this post but still no replies :crying:
I'd say open camera is the best out of your api2 list, even video recording works on it when running oreo which on many other cameras it does not.

It happens in Stock 8.1 too. I hope someone shows up with the answer
It crashes in Pixel experience oreo 8.1 too. Tried dozens of modded cameras but none of them worked. They were unable to be decoded for Mobile Lightroom and Photoshop.
I have the Motorola Moto G5 Plus XT1685 version
So it crashes in custom ROMs too...

Try this to fix DNG files.
About the crashes, there's no answer yet but a "workaround". Take the picture, see it (from the camera application itself) and go back to camera interface.

Night Sight working almost perfectly on Nexus 5X

Decided to install the latest Google Camera that supports Night Sight for all Pixel phones on my Nexus 5X running Pixel Experience with Android 9. I was shocked to find out that Night Sight was actually available on Nexus 5X as it's the only Pixel 3 feature available on our old Nexus. (Even portrait mode is not available) Decided to test it out and results were surprising! It actually works! The only problem is while taking a photo the camera is upside down, but that's not something you should worry about as the photo is normal when you take it. Below are the photos I took.

I've just updated (OTA) my PixelExperience to the latest version and I've tried to install the Google Camera from:
- Google Play store: No night sight is shown (old UI).
- cstark27 version from here opens ok, but crashes as you go to night mode
- Even tried the One+ 6T versions and, of course, crash too.
Where did you get the working version?

Google Camera 6.1.021.220943556 (arm64-v8a) (nodpi) (Android 9.0+)
By Google LLC
The upside-down viewport is annoying, but the final pic shows ok.
I've tried to disable the HDR+ because each photo takes almost a minute of heavy post-processing CPU load, and now my phone is burning, but no luck with this since this setting only can be disabled in normal camera mode. The final result is awesome, but now I'm afraid of a sudden bootloop because of heating if I take several photos in a short time.

this is working quite ok, except for:
- slowmo goes black and do nothing
- portrait and front camera is shooting but colors are completely wrong. like on green&yellow plus black
- panoramic shoots but the resulting picture will be upside down, photosphere works ok though
- night shot works but preview image is upside down THEN the final picture is rendered correctely, not upside down
this instead is the latest "normal" camera 5.1 working ok with my N5X
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...f/GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3b1.apk
After almost getting depressed by the quantity of modded GCam versions that I've tried on my Nexus 5X with no success, I finally hit gold with this one:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.013_MiMAX2_V1b_A8.1+.apk
It works pretty good with the default settings.
Night Sight works good, the viewfinder is normal, NOT flipped and mirrored. I guess the MiMax2 also has a rear sensor that's mounted up-side-down.
The HDR processing is decent enough for the low RAM and SoC power, it stays in memory while processing 2 or 3 photos.
Only downside is that I can't seem to snap a photo with the front camera, just a black screen.
But anyway I also use another GCam:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...f/GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3b1.apk
and that's working fine with the front camera. It also has a different package name so I can have them both installed.
Tried the same on my Nexus 5x on pixelexperience, app installs and works fine except flipped night mode and I can't shoot in it – any idea why?

Have you tried the GCam version from the 1st link I posted?
NighSight works fairly decent given the low processing power we have on this device and the viewfinder is NOT inverted. Other features may fail, though - I don't use anything other that NighSight from it.
Downloaded your cam file but where's the option to enable night sight I'm using gcam version you uploaded
I use https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/themes/b-s-g-google-camera-port-developed-mi-8-t3843130 for android 9 download

I am using https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78530683&postcount=2038 (variant 1 normal) and it has working night sight.
To fix the upside down problem with night sight, you need to toggle Forcibly enable NS config for A8.1 in Settings->BSG MOD settings->Night Sight Paramters
I've tried many camera mods and this works best for me. I also like https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods/gcam-google-pixel-1-2-3-t3875663 it has more features and night sight is little better (it has no blue tint), but there is no fix for upside down
Any better gcam versions appearing for the 5X? The best one I have used is the one from the post before this one but the front camera is messed up on that (yellow glowing mess).

I myself found NX camera to be the only stable Gcam app on nexus 5x. rest of them either crash or HDR is missing. for night sight I use the last version from apkmirror and works fine but for normal photography and portrait NX camera is the best. I'm on pixel experience. If anyone knows better combination I would be happy to know as well.
@saeid.babaei: I use OpenCamera, all AOSP-ROMs since Nougat. No special night wonder, but stable with rich settings, incl HDR.

Google Camera 5.2 for Motorola Moto Z2 Play.
•What changes were made to the original app?:
- The only changes i did here were to fix Touch Focus (tap to focus) and changed some presets to make the app fully compatible with Albus.

•Installation:
- Download apk, locate it with your file manager and install.
- Open the app, configure it as it's shown on attached screenshots.
- Restart the app, firsts captures may look black and white (it's normal, just force stop the app till this behaviour ends).

IMPORTANT: IT DOES NOT WORK ON STOCK ROM! (Stock Motorola is 32-BIT).
•Bugs:
- Non HDR mode (normal mode) is a bit buggie.
- Slowmotion does not work.
- Disable video stabilisation, otherwise video recorder ain't gonna work.

•Important tips (should read):
- To get nice shots in LOW LIGHT scenes (or night shots): set 'Auto-Exposure HDR+' settings to: "Increase exp. to 8" or "Min ISO" to stack more frames (Keep in mind that using this settings the image capture takes longer than in "OFF".).
More frames = less noise, more image quality, lower shutter speed (ideal for low light conditionts only).
- In GOOD LIGHT conditions just let this setting in "OFF" (it's fast and image quality isn't depleted).
- To rapidly acces to 'Auto-Exposure HDR+ settings': double tap next to the front camera switch button (on the black area).
- See attached screenshots for optimal settings.

For night sight use sanity's 6.1, but that modded gcam is not stable enough for our device.
The version i posted here is stable. Can be used as daily driver unlike sanity's 6.1.021.
Camera stopped working persists.
Deleted other versions of gcam then too.

Could you please provide me logs?
It's strange because this app is meant for Android 8.1+, i haven't had any issues so far (using it as main camera since a couple of months ago).
Today i am gonna upload the last version of fu24 (18c1) modified in order to work with Albus.

Seems that there is a problem with your rom/configurations.
I suggest you to switch to a fork of LOS called Mokee OS (which is LineageOS 15.1, but with daily updates, it's my dd rom).
https://download.mokeedev.com/?device=albus
That's all the help i can provide you.

Who is maintaining that rom?
can anyone post some pictures so we can see if it's worth all that mess of rooting, flashing, fu**ing and other things with this device just to take some decent shots... thanks in advance
Works fine on Sybery OS 9.0.

Hi,
Check your build.prop file. The device needs to be properly named as Albus, because this camera reads the device name and based on it applies the AF parameters correction (according to the specific device codename stored into a script, inside the apk).
If the error persist i recommend you to switch to an official rom like Mokee OS (the device identifiers there are ok).
#New update! (based on latest 18c1 by fu24).
•Changelog:
- Improved touch focus target locking (now it's more accurate).
- Fixed FC's in viewfinder while try to focus in really dark scenes.
- Changed some presets as front camera black level value to be compatible with Albus (out of the box).
- Package name changed to com.Mz2p.Gcam (to avoid conflicts with other GCams)
* After you apply the optimal settings posted in the thread do not forget to fully restart the app.

Hi,
It works. You must disable HDR+ (from the quick toggle) for taking selfies with front dual led. Or use normal bright white screen flash (it supports HDR+). Just like Urikill.
