Will LIKELY upgrade to P10 Plus from the LG v20... - Huawei P10 Plus Questions & Answers

I'm the not-so-proud owner of the LG v20 dual SIM phone...and with it, 6 months on...it's STILL lacking a viable root option on 7.0 Nougat and there's not a SQUEAK of support on the development side coming from LG. So, I've turned to this new release. The P10 Plus looks quite attractive as a potential upgrade from me. Here's why, in my books:
- MIMO dual antenna is excellent for COVERAGE concerns/download speeds
- Retains a useful IR blaster (hooray, it's not dead on smartphones afterall!)
- LED notification status indicator/light (User manual page 4 indicates green, red and orange thus far...think I've also seen white)
Then you add the fact that it comes boxed with a case (or even without the cut diamond reduces fingerprints and is a nice feature); it is available in Dual SIM (and also B28 700Mhz frequency; important for me in Australia); it's no bigger than 5.5" - and while it 2K IPS, it more than makes up for the hefty 3750mAh battery drainer with a massive battery. That's enough to convince me to change.
But first things first - viable root. Who is getting this phone? Whats the liklihood, as Huawei did for the P9 Plus, to release the open source kernal for download? Who is going to attempt and develop root for it? If any owners are reading this, PLEASE post a video testing out the NFC and the notification lights (with lightflow, if possible) - that would be super helpful!

Haha. Thanks. I'll change the heading..

I'm also sitting here with a V20 and boy do I regret getting this phone.. Even though I have root and am able to flash a couple of custom ROMS availlble for my device, I'm still not one bit satisfied with this phone. GPS totally sucks! I'm being navigated to a location and all of the sudden I hear nothing because the app is "looking for GPS signal" and never locks in... This happens in both stock and custom (with updated GPS files)
I'm really attracted to the P10 Plus and am really considering in purchasing the phone. I don't think we'll know about dev until a little bit more time passes as this phone is still a little bit new.

I've come to the P10 Plus from the LG G6, which I REALLY didn't like, and I'm happy to confirm that it's a great device. Superb camera, really nice feel and design (I have the blue diamond cut version), and it's much smoother than the LG in handling tasks. Battery is ok, but I'm still in that new phone, constantly tweaking, phase, so I'll see what happens when I revert back to normal usage. I can definitely recommend getting one if you're on the fence about it.

Thank you! I really appreciate it your input!
Where did you purchase yours from? I'm in the USA, not too sure which version to purchase for full LTE speeds on AT&T hmm

I live and work in China, so not too hard for me to get hold of one here, lol - they're EVERYWHERE at the moment, big push for them before the S8 hits

I picked one up myself. I'm loving the camera, but i haven't made it my daily driver yet as i'm patiently waiting for a new rom and recovery. Almost went with OPPO but they are really locking down their devices.

How do you guys find battery life and standby?

Standby appears to be great. Battery... Not so much. BUT! I'm still in the honeymoon phase with phone, so it is getting used a lot. I'll post again in a few days when I have taught myself not to keep playing with it. The phone too

Love this p10 plus!

Surprising regional strategy by Huawei....as Samsung is as big as Apple here, yet their AUS region service people and marketing know nothing st all, so that's as good as not even existing. They need to start pushing in countries where LG is doing well, because there's people who will ditch their sh*tty brand and lack of dev support for their models in favour of this phone:

Yep! You and me both. Except YOU are enjoying root at the very least...you can't have DUAL SIM and root, so I'm looking to ditch this sooner rather than later.
Anyone able to post any videos of using NFC or the LED notification light? Want to see how either it is to detect and its brightness, etc.

any updates on battery life?

Im lookin at this phone also.. But I need some screen on time shots and battery usage to know how well it fares with the competition. Also how dev friendly is Huawei?? I've never used a Kirin soc before. I have not seen benches on it too. Anyone post any yet?
I had an S7 Edge Qualcomm but screen wanted to get a pink line down it so I sold it off. (I had lineage booting on it) Tried Dual sim LG V20 for a few days.. absolutely hated that phone. So I'm shopping around trying to find my next phone I want to bring Lineage to.

Seems Huawei forums are dead on here until months after release. I wonder how hard it is to employ someone, part time, as a social media marketing expert who jumps on these places, lends their time every so often and PROMOTES their product, PUSHES it to people, COMPARES against the competition. Rather than just waiting for people to spend big dollars to get their hands on it, dislike it (if they do, for whatever reason), and then sell it? There's just no useful information that can be obtained on here yet...

Walking Away from the Huawei Ascend Mate 7

Hey everyone.
So I have now given up. I have abandoned all hopes that our pleading and moaning would soften Huawei's cold, corporate heart and allow us to use android to its full potential. I have given up waiting for the rumored Marshmallow update and I have lost all faith in Huawei.
Here comes the question: Where to next?
Of course the phone has its upsides. The beautifully small bezels and decent screen make consuming content on the phone is a pleasurable experience (provided you're using earphones / headphones), and the gargantuan battery can keep you going for hours of binge-watching. The fingerprint reader has you back in action in the blink of an eye after you have stepped away to top up your drink and the snappy processor does not fail to impress when it comes to day-to-day operations.
BUT, this is only what they want you to see. I get a very, shall I say, Apple-esque feeling when using my Mate 7. Things are locked up, neatly boxed and kept in check. I cannot use my phone, which I paid for and use every day to install my favorite custom ROM's. I can't install Xposed, and that makes me sad and it makes me mad with rage. For my own health I have decided to walk away and leave this experience behind me. An experience that was not uncomfortable or inconvenient, but not fantastic and joyful either. It's like that friend who, even though you hang out all the time and have known each other for years, you just can't really like for some reason.
So, this weekend I am going to embark on a journey to find my new electronic companion. And I will not go home until I have done so. And this is why I am asking you for help. What should I keep my eyes open for? Let me list things that I am looking for in an ideal candidate:
- Good battery. The mate 7 will be hard to beat here, but anything that can comfortably get me through a day of moderate to heavy use will suffice.
- Decent camera. Let's face it, the Mate 7's camera is not too good, and for the job I have I need a phone that can snap a tantalizing picture in a moment's notice. OIS is a must.
- SUPPORT FOR CUSTOM ROMS AND XPOSED
- Good screen. I don't need an ultra-quad-4k display with a quintilian PPI, but a decent screen will go a long way.
- Fingerprint reader. This is not a must. My Moto 360 and Smart Lock will take care of things if it doesn't have one, but it'll be a plus.
SO, guys, what do you think? At this moment I'm thinking of going the Samsung route. This is not, I know, the best of the best as far as pure android goes, but it's decent at least (thinking of a Note 4/5). If I can find one where I live I will probably end up going for a Nexus 6P, though I doubt I'll find one here.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Sorry for the rant!
Cheers :good:
A Nexus 6 would be a good choice. In fact, I am thinking about this change. Slightly better camera, better sound, better display, more powerful gpu, water resistant... And of course the best development support ever. The downsides (for me) would be the design and fingerprint sensor. The battery is not as good as in the Mate7 but it's still above average.
I don't like the design of the Nexus 6p, it's more expensive and also the SD810 chip is very problematic...

I in turn (personal opinion alert) love the design of the 6P, and if I can manage to find one where I live, which is unlikely, I'll definitely pick it up. Yeah sure, it's a bit more expensive, and the 810 heats up, but I'll kill for that pure Android experience. It's the reason why I moved back to Android from IOS, but I blindly bought the HAM7 thinking I'll just stick a custom ROM on it. Shows you the importance of doing research beforehand....
Nexus devices aren't sold in retail where I live, and it'll only be smaller, niche companies that would bother importing them, so I'll probably end up having to settle for a LG G4 or Galaxy S5 / Note 4, of which there are plenty.
To be honest, and this is quite depressing to admit, other than Samsung and Huawei devices you'll pretty much only find cheap Chinese phones and other unknown / knockoff devices here. Very sad indeed...
Maybe you can find an One Plus Two? People are happy with it and there is some interesting development for it

These are pretty decent alternatives, and pretty much in the range I'm looking for. The Galaxy A9 should be easy enough to find here. Replace Touchwiz with something else like CM and it will be a decent daily driver. I might even be able to find an Oppo here... Maybe... But I'll read up on the A9 as it's most likely to pop up in a store here. Thanks! :good:
I have been equally frustrated with this phone as well but it does have some major upsides like you've stated. I just want to inform you that the final and official EMUI 4.0 Marshmallow update is available for those who search enough! I'm running Android Marshmallow right now + a custom theme that removes the ugly backgrounds and borders on icons so except for the lack of an app drawer, the software is pretty neat now. I found this site ( huaweifirmware.com/huawei-mate-7 ) with instructions. There is also a thread in the general section of the Mate 7 with another download link for the marshmallow update! Cheers! :highfive:
Keep in mind that is for the 2Gb L09 version.
The 10 is only at B331 LP still.

If you are talking about MM then B511 is available for L09 and TL10. You need to get to B326 first before upgrading to B511.

Which official version are you talking about , to my knowledge there egypt and I think also poland who got marshmallow on OTA, but it was actually the Beta they rolled out.
Confirm that the so called official version is not identical to the beta version ?

Yes, it was released as a beta, however quite a successful one at that. I find it better than all the other roms, KK, LP and MM, beta or otherwise.

As RobboW said the MM update is only for the L09 version (I'm on the L10 3gb). Plus it's infuriating that I couldn't even get an OTA update to LP, it has to be done manually. Granted it isn't a very complicated process, but I do not agree with Huawei's lack of support when it comes to updates.
Even looking past that the most annoying thing is EMUI itself. It just simply isn't for me, from the dialer app to the notification panel, everything annoys me.
I have done some reading up and I think I'm gonna go with a OnePlus 2. I certainly won't get it here, though fortunately my boyfriend will be travelling to the UK for business soon, so he'll be able to pick one up for me there. The OP2 has near-to-stock Android with a few sprinkles on top, it's battery should be able to last me even through the roughest of days and of course root / ROM support is much, much better. It's also got a fingerprint scanner, which is a bonus and the camera is okay.
I'm also frustrated with the way Huawei handels OTA updates, I've only gotten 2 small ones and had to manually update to 5.1 and 6.0. I understand you wanting to switch phones, enjoy your new one! I do recommend updating to the B513 "beta" version for TL-09, I do not know anything about the TL-10 version. Best of luck!

That being the case, I'd say get your boyfriend to pick you up a 6p if you could scrape up the funds. Sounds like you have the same mindset as I had regarding the mate 7....I also considered the one plus but ultimately ponied up the extra and got the 6p and am extremely happy. Ticks all the boxes and shows how good huawei hardware can be if paired with the right software. The emui, lack of fully functional 'vanila' aftermarket android rom support for the mate 7 and the overly convoluted flashing processes were the main reasons I dumped the 7. The camera on the 6p is also light years ahead, especially in low light.
I‘m using Lollipop B331 and cannot get VIPER4Android to install it's driver, but other than that I like Lollipop.
I‘ve realised I can‘t do without Viper. Rather than sell my Mate 7 I will revert to Kitkat so I can run Viper. l‘ll also be able to get some basic Xposed to work again.
A 6P would be hard to beat if it had an SD820

Never again am I buying from LG

I bought this device because it was overall very good in all the reviews I read. I read that the charger that came with it didnt support Quick Charge 2.0. That was the first dissapointment. When i received it, it was running Android 6.0. I did an OTA check and no updates were available. I decided to download Lg Bridge and i finally found one update. I bought this device on one condition, to avoid LG UX 4.0. And guess what, my phone was part of an ever growing crowd of people who didnt have the eu bootloader! I felt like I was smacked in the face. I searched the internet for more info and my fears were confirmed. Ever since that i vowed to never buy from LG again. Android is about Freedom and there is none of that on the LG G4. European market bias confirmed:crying:. Months after the discovery I had witnessed the scariest thing ever, I was listening to some music with my LG earphones plugged in. And suddenly i couldnt wake the damned thing anymore but when i touched the screen i could hear typing sounds, I had to pull the battery out. The battery life on the thing was mediocre at best, the screen never lived up the my expectations, the phone gets dangerously hot when i use snapchat. The only thing going for the LG G4 is its camera which was probably the best in 2015. I simply cannot stand the lag on the phone anymore and I am searching for other phones. Im not that kind of person who spends 600 euros on a phone. Then the Oneplus 3 showed and for 400 euro i get a phone 2 times as powerful, dash charging, an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER and a premium design. Whats more Oneplus actually tries to fix its phones and released tons of fxes for the OP2. Im pretty sure the phone will get Android Nougat even if it takes a while(after witnessing what speedy updates meant on the LG G4 I would prefer slow and steady progress). The only thing the oneplus loses in is the camera department which will improve. Im tempted to wait for the 2016 Nexuses as they will have the best Android experience as well as support for Daydream vr. Ive also checked out the ugly zenfone 3 deluxe which will cost much more than 400 euro. The Axon 7 is also tempting but im not sure if the 6gb version will come out for Europe, the bootloader seems to be locked for now(news next week on whether it will be unlocked) So guys should i wait for the more expensive Nexus by HTC or look out for the OP3 and Axon 7?
You're not alone.
After a year of using it
Pro:
- Battery life, yes it last more than one day, and never need the 2nd battery
- Camera, I am not a pro, but keep getting compliment saying the photos are awesome
- Screen, I have no complaint, but nowaday a lot of high-end phone gets 1440p screen
- Quick eMMC speed and SD support
Cons:
- Still no unlocked BOOTLOADER!
- ****ty OS
- SLOW CPU nowaday
- Poor Wifi (50% vs my iPAD air 2 full bar)
- Very poor resale value
- Leather gets dirty quickly and expensive to replace
Verdict: The camera is holding me from getting another phone. It will be either Note7, Nexus 2016, or iPhone7.
I do not agree with some things here. The leather is not getting dirty fast at all except if you are not careful enough. I have the phone since February and the leather is like day one. I do agree that those covers are too expensive. The phone gets warm but so do many others with Snapdragons. Only my S6 and iPhone does not get very warm. It's a common issue with Android phones due to their hardware. The latest Snapdragons tend getting warmer than other chips. My 6P was getting very warm too. Metal is good for cooling during winter but during summer it absorbs the surrounding heat faster than other materials. The battery life is OK. Just OK nothing outstanding. I get 3 to 4h SoT indoors with WiFi and 1 to 2h SoT outside with 4G. The screen of G4 is 1440p except if I didn't understand correctly what you wrote. It's like you implied that the G4 has no QHD screen which is wrong. Overall the phone is one of the snappiest and lag free I ever had. It definitely feels more snappy than the 6P which shocked me when I bought it. The UX is OK. I find it a bit ugly and uninspired. It misses some options and features. Like settings search. The only thing that bothers me with this phone is the Bootloop issue and the absence of fingerprint reader. I will never buy OnePlus though. No official service centres in many countries and very slow Android updates. Look when they got Marshmallow. Their OS is buggy as hell. Also I will never again trust a phone with an OLED panel except from Samsung's. All non Samaung phones that have OLED tend to have weak and lower quality panels which are bad optimised. My guess is OEMs order lower grade OLED panels from Samsung to cut costs. G4 has one of the best screens I ever had. G4 and my older S6. I live in a sunny country and I had problems with many phones which were absolutely not visible during the day. For the price it is still one very good phone. Now it's dirty cheap. LG just lost their Mojo. They are trying too hard to innovate and do crazy things and lost the basics in the process.

Same, start on Apple, screw them to hell
Next, got LG, stared good, now it sucks
Moving to Samsung!
I was always trash talking sony, after buying this one I feel bad for that. I did not even know i bought a dual version until i got it :c
Now there is no unlock/root for me (bye-bye dualshock, drivedroid etc). Buy cheap, buy twice.
After a year or so, my main issue is the weak SoC.
It is really showing its age (weaker overall than 2 years old Snapdragon 805). I'm not even playing games, but using the likes of Google Photos takes its toll on the CPU and the battery drains fast.
Sometimes, it struggles to keep up with daily tasks (Google Maps, instant messaging apps, web browser, Strava, camera) : laggy, overheating.
Looking forward to the V20.

Jesus people, stop crying and make a reaserch before you gonna buy a phone. This kind of posts are on every phone forum, every single one, G4 is my 11th Android phone, I had Motorola, Sony, OPO2, OPPO, Samsung and on each forum I've seen countless posts like this. FYI - LG is a first phone that I really like after one year of using, just before I bought it I have read about unlocking bootloader, root, etc and chose it after some reaserch.

I bought this device because it was overall very good in all the reviews I read. I read that the charger that came with it didnt support Quick Charge 2.0. That was the first dissapointment. When i received it, it was running 6.0. Ever since that i vowed to never buy from LG again. is about Freedom and there is none of that on the LG G4. European market bias confirmed:crying:. Months after the discovery I had witnessed the scariest thing ever, I was listening to some music with my LG earphones plugged in. And suddenly i couldnt wake the damned thing anymore but when i touched the screen i could hear typing sounds, I had to pull the battery out. not just that mine was dead in 2 days after an official update via lg bridge. i am a poor man ... i hope lg make things right but i dont think i can afford another until i am a grand grand parent...
i have seen few htc with my friends htc m8 ithink they were they had a solid build quality and never gave a problem to them all 3 of them running cynogen i bet quality wise htc or samsung are best Huawie and chinese phones are not attrctive but have solid build quality i knw this for sure
I'm done with LG as well. I wonder if anyone from LG reads REAL communities and learn from this? Mine is battery life, while some get good life, mine is at 50% by noon and I start at 9 am, so that's not saying a lot for this phone. Of course the locked bootloader, but even more than the lock, their OS is just abysmal, why, just why?
I can't wait until the Zenfone 3 Deluxe shows up in Canada.

Oh dude, so here is what your NOT UNDERSTANDING. The H812 (Canadian Version) came shipped with Android 5.1. It DID NOT have a locked bootloader. Then one day in February we got the Magical Unicorn also knows as Marshmallow. Like many MANY other people, we updated the OTA because we just needed that battery improving upgrade, after-all Europe got this update 2 months before and are happily running the phone the way they see fit...Stock, Roms, Root, whatever. SURPRISE PHONE BOOTLOADER LOCKED UPON OTA. This has nothing to do with the actual phone itself as a functioning electronic device, this has to do with LG's GIANT FK YOU Canada.

European reseller has no right to sell you Singapore version as warranty won't be valid in Europe, if you referring to some eBay sellers then you can always ask about country origin.

There must be a way to restore the bootloader . I read on some post taht a guy used a ZTE software to rewrite all phone partitions and he modified IMEI and Device ID . He did not changed bootlaoder but I think there must be a way .I will look for that post and I will post here . He explained that his phone was switching mode and appeared in his Windows Device manager like a serial COM device and he had access to all phone partitions ,about 20-30 of them .

I will buy the Incipio pack with 2220mAh. Just read the reviews.

Opinions about leeco

Hey guys, im looking for opinions about leeco and their smartphones, maybe some owners of previous devices? Long story short, i currently own nexus 6p, its a fricking awesome device, but i kinda grew bored of it, and battery life is not that great. I dont want to spend extra money on new toy, but by selling 6p i should get atleast 300euros, and for this money i have few options. Its either le pro 3, mi 5s plus, or 100euros extra for mi note 2. I pretty much know what to expect from xiaomi, but im completely clueless about leeco. Is there any development? I looked around forums of older devices, and they seem pretty dead I dont expect same level of development as nexus, but having few options, like miui or cm would be great, cause im already sure i couldnt stand stock rom lol. Also what about customer support? So any input is welcome, also any recommendations of above devices, thank you and sorry for long ass post lol
Currently, the bootloader of the US version of the Pro3 cannot be unlocked. There is a lot of negative comments about that on the forum. [http://forum.le.com/us/index.php?threads/unlock-bootloader.3682/
There is a positive first impressions post on the LeEco Pro3 XDA site. I'm conflicted - getting my phone tomorrow.
I have Le 1 PRO, to be honest it is a gamble. The devices are good but the support is terrible. If someone is not porting AOSP/CM to these devices they will have a very short life.
Le 1 series suffered some major faulty design problems in term of GPS/Wifi and so on. We moved to 6.0.1 only when series 2 came out.
Probably Le 3 series will receive n7.1.1 only after Le 4 series (if any) will be announced/sold, in the meantime you will have countless of useless update (clearly not on the camera since it will be too good).
I've seen some work on Le 2 series, hopefully there will be even more on Le 3 series.
As of now i'm not 100% regretting my choice (270 euros 1.5 years ago for Le 1 Pro) but it is literally a for-geek phone.
If you just want a top-spec phone to use at a great price the le pro 3 fits the bill.
If you want to tinker, probably any other unlocked phone will work better unless they decide to unlock the bootloader.
I've got no regrets so far for $299 us

If you get bored, but then also want the option of cm, I'm not sure how getting a new device will help you. You can have CM or miui now. And CM isn't exactly a grand departure from AOSP/CAF. It's relatively barebones android. Most phones these days are almost identical slabs. If you're gonna use the same OS as you had before, all you're really changing is the shape. Also, the Nexus is going to be your best bet for tinkering. Nexus or Pixel.
As for support, from what I understand LeEco isn't great when it comes to that. Whatever fashion you receive your device in, expect it to change VERY little. It also doesn't help that reports are popping up that the north american venture is coming up very short. Makes me believe they'll be pulling up stakes and going back to China. With the Pro3 currently locked, I'd say avoid it. If you want a toy phone to tinker with, the S3 might be a better choice. It's cheaper, already unlockable (or so people are reporting, I don't actually know myself), and if it receives any development, then it should be interesting. If you get it for $150, it isn't too much of a gamble.
If I were in your position, I'd steer clear. Especially if you were in the US on T-Mobile and can qualify for a Pixel half off through their promotion. At least that way you'll get wifi calling and some top-notch cameras. Either that or an Oppo. Since you're in europe, I don't know what the alternatives are. At least the chinese version is unlockable (the x720) but there's still the matter of development. And I think that'll be unlikely since CM development usually comes to US models.
I don't understand why you keep saying the bootloader is locked though, there is a user on this forum that had it unlocked on x727, LeTV also is officially stating on lemall site that the bootloader is unlockable

I've seen several folks in the US version discussion thread report that does NOT work, or -go command version either. So far Leeco are being dicks and not allowing it. Maybe an OTA will change that, and they just didn't want it being unlockable right away... No idea yet. I don't really mind the software that much, it's pretty nice, performs well and battery life is excellent expecially standby. But not even having root is quite a deal breaker. I'd return it just on that news but I don't have more money to replace it with anything else since I broke my X Pure that I was going to sell to offset the Pro3 price. Guess I'm stuck waiting for root and roms that so far looks like will never come. Still a great phone though, even signal and GPS are great which were my biggest concerns about it.

Yeah, not as good as a 6P for sure. It's like most cheaper cameras... Still great in bright light. Indoors not great. Low light, pretty bad. I've seen worse on more expensive phones though. It's better than my X Pure's camera.

This phone is great. So far so good. Coming from a GS5
Well like everyone else have said so far, the x727 can't be unlocked.
the x720 is quite another story, im sitting with TWRP, rooted and with xposed along with all the other great stuff.
The phone is outstanding quality, full metal unibody and all that jazz.
The Camera is uhm there? but it's overall not the best performer, you can take some nice shots in daylight but that's about it.
i installed a custom version of EUI to remove the bloatware, and i'm currently rocking the leaked pixel launcher on top, so far so good.
The only other rom for this phone is MIUI, which is having some issues (atleast for me) with 4g LTE, it just locks itself onto 3g and HSPA+
My dream is a CM based rom sometime in the near future.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Nokia 7 Plus, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Nokia 7 Plus is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This is a great phone, love it:good:
Well if HMD isn't going to show North America any consideration, i think i might just import this phone - even with no LTE support.
The last time i imported a phone unreleased in the US was the Nokia N80 and it was one of my favourite phones to date.
I do hope they're going to provide a possibility to unlock the bootloader. But i bought it anyway because it seemed just to good for it's price.
And so far i love it!
It looks so damn sexy, feels great and performs very well.
I only have it for a small week now but i really love it.
Performs well in games also without heating up and so far the camera is very good as well.

Perhaps you missed that LTE support was the ideal scenario.
As a last resort, i would import from Europe - but the global ROM on a Chinese variant is a far more enticing prospect for at least ONE North American LTE band.

That's my only gripe with the phone(and the bootloader unlock uncertainty) but that can be address with some apps, future updates to the ambient display functionality or just a minor adjustment from our part.
I wasn't sure I could live without the led and even tried some apps but the reality is, after one week, I did not miss any more notifications that I was already missing with my last phone. For now this is the phone I've should have bought after leaving the Nexus 5. But hey, lesson learned, I'm not buying another Xiaomi, that's for sure...
I bought black/copper version yesterday and man I'm loving this phone. Coming from OnePlus 3T. I kinda wished that notification light, but I have allready forgotten "need" for that. Yes. it's convinient to have it, but lifting phone to check notifications is quick. Or you can double tap screen to wake screen and see whole notifications.
I think there could be place to optimize os a bit further. There are minor lags and hungups here and there. I know that we are dealing with S660, but I feel like these could be addressed by optimizing os.
I feel sort of nostalgic to have Nokia phone again after so many years. Last Nokia phone was 5800 XpressMusic and man that phone sucked quite many way.
Beautiful phone. Got this from 2 days ago and I am surprised.
I don't need notification led .
I love battery capacity and Android One
The phone is very smooth and 8.1 response very fast with SD660.
The only minus is volte and vowifi for my carrier.

C'mon mate in these days all the people around the world are checking their phones regularly. It's became already a bad habit.
In my point of view the notification led is history...
Quite a nice phone. I'm still unsure whether I'm going to return it or not, but for now I'm keen on keeping it.
I was looking for a replacement for my [too heavily modded and slowly killed of - sorry mate...] Xiaomi Mi5 in the 400 euro price range, and I think I actually found it.
Feels great in the hand, weight and everything, the big screen is really nice, the camera is pretty good, the audio is good enough for my ears, with 2.5h+ sot and two configurations with lots of backed up data/one factory reset + 8.1 update while still having 60% battery is really nice (all the while being on data) and the stock Android is just perfect for me, would not want more. My only gripes would be the slight hangs in scrolling speed, when it tries up to lazy load the next scrolling page (the mi5 was not as obvious as the nokia when it tried to do this), the slight lag when opening the recents tab and the slight delay when unlocking with the fingerprint reader, but I suppose this is something I can go by with.
Why did I go for the Nokia when I could've go for last year's flagships? I honestly wanted a newer chipset, stock Android (without any flashing in between) at an affordable price, and I think this hits the marks.
I feel depressed af. After using a device with the worst community ever(it did not even have a dedicated XDA forum) I bought this, now with release of Moto g6 series and Nokia x6 I feel angry and depressed at the same time. What the **** is wrong with Nokia why the **** would they release x6 when they already have the 7 plus. The x6 has better specs, better designfor a lesser price. But the thing that really makes me angry is that there is no distinctive feature about this phone. To top that there are so less accessories for this phone and the ones available are not even good. There are no skins available for this phone either and even if they will be available all the copper on the phone will make the phone look ridiculous. Now the x6 is released for lesser price and by the number of people who bought it or pre ordered it, it looks like it will have a better accessories.l, and the glass back also looks better than the 7 plus. You may say the 7 plus is an Android one phone but Nokia releases different updates to different regions where some regions have certain features and some not. To sum it up the phone is good but with no option to unlock bootloader and no market for accessories it sucks.

I'm not sure where you are heading.
The X6 has worse chipset, worse camera specs, having glass back is not a plus in my book (breaks easily). I've been able to find alle covers etc on aliexpress/ebay for my 7+ needs.
But it's a shame with the lack up updates for some people, big bummer by Nokia there, they should release updates worldwide for everybody at same time. And locked bootloader etc is a shame too. But overall I'm very happy with the phone.

Is the phone worth it?

I'm considering getting this phone refurbished from amazon. I want to make sure the bootloader is easily unlockable before buying. Other than that, i'd like to see how other people like the phone before buying. thx
Yes, easily unlockable.
I like mine. I like the quick security updates, I don't have any stability problems, and for the price, it is a great phone. I don't rely on it as my main camera so I have lower requirements for camera but it is pretty good with gcam.
For a smaller phone, it is pretty heavy but I don't mind that either.
If there is a complaint, I do wish that for the thickness and size, they could have squeezed a bigger battery in.
I just got one refurbished as well as a backup/replacement for my OnePlus 5 (USB C port not cooperating anymore). Super easy to unlock (plenty of guides to follow). Love the form factor, screen is sharp, decent battery life, runs perfectly.
Development seems to be rather slow. I'm guessing that's because there will never be another essential device. I like the phone though, an upgrade to the OnePlus 3T I had before. I might switch to Google Pixel 3a/3a XL at some point.

the opposite I think, they are not developing things ie. camera on this phone as they are flat out on the new one!

I suggest you do some research about cell signal strength before buying this phone.

I agree. In nearly every other way this phone surpasses the Moto Z2 Play I was using before, except that it seems to get much weaker LTE signal in my area. Other than that I love it. Check your carrier LTE bands to see if it has good coverage in your area.

Best phone ever, and with the addition of the 360 camera you are way ahead.

If I broke my phone today, i wouldnt hesitate to buy another. I convinced my brother to upgrade an older phone to this one and he's been pleased. He bought his refurbed for $115 on Sprint. For the price, i cant think of anything better. Camera is ok, google camera helps. My cell signal is fine (wife has pixel 2 hd, havent noticed issues where hers is working and mine is not.) Her camera does everything better than mine. Software/performance else where is just as good.
I love the form factor and build quality, screen to body ratio is still great two years on. Updates are fantastic and I am enjoying Q.
Phone keeps Shutting down
Hello everyone ? my brother's Ph-1 keeps shutting down right after powering up, I have tried everything from factory resetting to trying a different charger, nothing seems to work. This happened after he didn't use the phone for almost a month, it worked perfectly before.
The phone doesn't stay on for more than a minute or two which means i cannot use ADB to side load an update
The phone is running Android P and the April security update patch.
Please do help me out
Thanking you

With respect, please start a new thread. It is rude to hijack someone else's with an unrelated issue.
Additionally, when you do, please also indicate if the phone stays on while connected to the charger.

Please don't buy this device . I got mine for Georgian Lari 430 (157$). Device is getting laggy when trying to play Mobile Legends. Device has touch issues and in 2019 it's not satisfying to see device getting hot.
For example : I am dragging my joystick in Mobile Legends and phone lets off the joystick itself so my character keeps stopping. Battery life is not best either but thanks to the fast charge it goes up really fast. I had Xiaomi Pocophone before Essential and trust me - This is not device for 2019.
Edit for additional info: Wi-Fi coverage is terrible on this device. If you are not in the same room where WiFi router is - Your signal will be weak af
Def the best phone purchase I made at $250! And the updates that are on or before the pixel updates is icing on the cake! I keep seeing all these new phones come out that look nice but then I remember that most if not all will not get updates like the Essential phone I already have in hand and I forget all about the new phones... If / or hopefully when Essential releases a new phone I will be first to buy as I love getting monthly updates on time!
