Thank you for that list. Very useful.

I see some stuff like "usb-mtp..." and it worries me a bit. Does all the stuff (USB debugging, file transfers, backups via ADB, etc.) works after removal?

don't worry about those.. because my phone do not come with those... i only had /system/priv-app/usb-mtp-fotaupdate-wrapper; and i deleted that also
Phone model Xperia XZs G8232

one of the app deletion is causing RCS hndler to stop working. deleting RCS handler is making system slower

[GUIDE] [WINDOWS] How to root the Sprint Huawei Express M650

Seeing as this device does not yet have it's own Android device forum, and may not given the relative lack of popularity, I am posting this here - and hope it is of some use to you.
What you need:
Huawei Driver Install - http://bit.ly/rGEFKz (also included below)
DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit
Steps:
Dial * # * # 2846579 # * # *
Go to projectmenu, background settings, log settings, log switch and set Log on
Reboot phone
Set USB debugging on
Reboot the device and unplug from the computer
Enable USB Debugging (Menu > Settings > Applications > Development)
Enable Stay Awake (Menu > Settings > Applications > Development)
Enable Unknown Sources (Menu > Settings > Applications)
Install Huawei Drivers
After install plug phone in. Windows should auto install the drivers.
Unzip the DooMLorRD Easy Rooting Toolkit to a directory
Run the runme.bat and follow the prompts
After a reboot repeat steps 1 and 2, but set Log Off.
Done.
Thanks!
This phone is very weird, I didn't think anyone took the time to root it. I appreciate the write-up.
Have you found any other tricks for this phone?

No - I built a CWM for it but it needs some more work. I haven't been able to sit down and figure it all out.
I was wondering if the ROM this uses can be flashed to U8350... I don't know if there are any hardware differences but they look just the same...

I don't think it can. The U8350 is a GSM and this is a CDMA.

More memory/apps to remove
So first off, thanks for this! really glad someone is looking out for the poor blokes out there xD (i picked mine up from fry's for $30 no contract)
My main intention of rooting is to speed up this phone a bit by removing bloat, as well as more room for apps. Since there isnt a working cwm for this phone, I'm being cautious on what i change or remove. any suggestions on what can be removed?

Root Droid 2 on Gingerbread 2.3.4 [WINDOWS]

Still holding on to that Droid 2? Looking to root it, but it's hard because it was updated to 2.3.4? Well, good news for you! I've found a way to root the Droid 2 on 2.3.4 in seconds! All you have to do is:
1. Download SuperOneClick 2.2 and the Gingerbreak exploit files.
2. Extract SuperOneClick.
3. Go to the folder where that is installed.
4. Put that to the side and extract the Gingerbreak files.
5. Copy the Gingerbreak.c file.
6. Go to the SuperOneClick folder and open the Exploits folder. You should see two files, zergRush and psneuter.
7. Paste Gingerbreak.c here.
8. Connect your Droid 2 to your computer. Make sure it is connected to adb by opening command prompt and typing "adb devices" without the quotes. If you see a string of numbers/letters and device, then your phone is connected. If not, then make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone, and make sure you have the correct drivers installed on your computer.
9. After your phone is connected, open SuperOneClick.exe and click on the exploit drop-down list. It will be set at Auto by default. There will be four options, Auto, zergRush, psneuter, and the file you added, Gingerbreak.c.
10. Select Gingerbreak.c.
11. After that, just click root. The process will complete in seconds and then it will ask if you want to test if your phone was rooted properly.
12. Click yes, and a SuperUser request will appear on your phone if it is rooted.
13. Disconnect your phone and you're done!

I restored my phone and tried this again to make sure it worked and it did. You may want to try using one of the other Gingerbreak files you downloaded, too. If this doesn't work, make sure your phone is connected and online. To check if it is online, open command prompt and type adb devices. It will show some numbers and then device if it is online, otherwise it will show the numbers and then offline. To fix it if it is offline, try rebooting your phone, rebooting your computer, or using a different cable.
is your phone is on system version 2.3.4/4.5.621?
did you root with magic md5, if so did you sbf, before trying this?
because it's not working for me

Droid 2 to Cricket
First off, I am new here. Name is Dennis, but my nickname has always been Skeezix, "Skeeze" for short. If this post is in the wrong place, feel free to move it accordingly. I recieved my Droid to in a bricked state of mind. (the phone, not me) Now let me resurrect the dead. I found this forum via a google search for flashing a bricked droid. ezSBF/linux worked wonders. 10 starz there!!Then I went to this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881883&nocache=1
...to flash to Cricket. I felt it was too far above my head, as I had just gotten the phone awakened to GB 2.3.4. So I found this...
http://www.robpol86.com/index.php/Flashing_Motorola_Droid_to_Cricket
Real simple for a bumpkin like me. I followed the instructions to a "T". Which leads me to where I am now....(there are more things I've learned in my quest, but I'm not sure they are pertinent. ie: framaroot works and z4 doesn't as far as root goes.)
The present:
Droid works fine on wifi as far as internet goes. What I don't have is 1x or 3x when not on wifi. I can text, (but not pictures), I can call on the phone without wifi. I did change the prl to 35045 from the directed 42900, but nothing changed. I tried to access my apn setting via shortcut using bettercut, but the shortcut says apn app not installed on this phone. I found the app APN manager, which lets me remove, and edit apn, but still no luck. When I go to settings, about phone, status, all the changes are there, but under network, it says unknown.
I'm afraid to go any further for fear of bricking again and starting over without experienced guidance. "The stupid question is the one you don't ask, and you screw up." (My Dad) So here goes...
Do need to start over and try and install a new rom to fix this? or have I missed something simple? I can use the phone for now, so I can be patient for educated responses. I can give any more info if needed.

I'm new here -- I've searched all over for hours trying to find answers to root my phone and using different methods, but yours is the easiest to understand as I'm pretty computer illiterate and I have hard time understanding what other folks mean by things. I apologize in advanced for being long winded.
Trying to root my 2.3.4 LG Optimus Slider. Things I've done:
-downloaded and installed SDK bundle from the Android website as well as the Google USB drive
-followed all your instructions
-had some issues with typing "adb devices" into command prompt, kept getting: "ADB is Not Recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file"
-followed a tutorial from zack's tutorial's (not sure if links work here or how, but: http://zacktutorials.blogspot.com/2013/04/adb-is-not-recognized-as-internal-or.html) and got the same results that the blogger did (thought ADB issue was fixed)
-tried to root phone and got a message from SuperOneClick: *daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*daemon start successfully* and rooting process stops right there
-forums suggest there is an issue with the ADB (with the whole daemon thing) and the command prompt is now going back to the whole "not recognized as an internal or external command" spiel
I keep going around in circles here, uninstalling and reinstalling, trying new methods, and getting confused. I could really use some guidance please!!
Thanks

[Q] Insufficent storage avalible after swapping internal memory

I followed the steps on the forum to swap my internal memory with my SD card to increase space for apps. It worked great everything seemed to be working perfect at first. I had to do some house cleaning with broken links to ringtones and pictures but I somewhat expected that. The other day I was reading there was an update for Chrome Beta so when I got home I started the update. After it downloads and tries to install I get an error message that says Insufficient storage available. I have about 16gb free on my "new" internal memory. I deleted a large 2gb app and data but it still gives me the same error. I did do some looking but didn't find anything use full. Any help will be appreciated.
EDIT: It is not just Chrome Beta every app I try and update says the same thing. I also tried downloading random apps but i just finally ran in to the error after a very large app tried to install.

That is for ics 4.0.4. Back soon...

When I have corrupted my ext sd, you can read but not write. I found that mounting the card to a pc or mac with one of those usb/micro shuttles. Then copy everything to a enpty folder, format the sd ON YOUR PHONE. Then put all back to the empty card/shuttle.
Use this from now on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566065
OK?

I can't follow that post I have tried. How do I follow this?
"Flash v5 with Twrp2.6 + or Philz v6.
For SS users using bootstrap, untested."

SS is safestrap recovery. Yours right? I never tested how well it works in your case. At least not v5 I did test prev versions. Follow the busybox step , reboot & flash from stock slot.

sorry I apparently don't know how to flash the v5? I don't see anything in the busybox or safestrap. I downloaded the files at the bottom of the post but don't see where they are used either.

Thanks thought I had it figured out last night using TWRP but I'll go through that post and figure it out.
I think I did it now. I had to go back and revert all my original attempts at it to get it to work. I can see the internal as the external and the SD card is mounted as internal. Haven't tried to add a bunch of apps yet to see if it gives me the same message as before. I did get all my ringtones back I lost after swamping the memory using the wrong way for my version of android.
Be sure to get twrp 2632.

[Guide] How to remove " What's New" without rooting

1. Unzip the file and start ''runthis.bat'
2. Enter the following order one by one:
adb shell
pm block com.sonymobile.advancedwidget.entrance
exit
adb reboot
Note: Connect the phone to computer using ' USB Debugged mode', which can be set in Developer Options.
Or just update it to the last version.

Can you be more specific? Update what?
I already update "what's new" to the latest version, but there is no option to hide it.
Thank you.

I've done the adb method on my Z3v, and it worked. Problem was is that it messed up Xperia Home and a lot of other functions on the UI so I had to undo it. With this new update though, thanks a lot!

Are there other things this will work on besides What's New? Is there a list of safe things to block?

Just a word of warning: if you use the built-in alarm clock, don't remove organizer.
No what's new junk after the recent update.
After getting the update by sony update center the whats new is gone from my.home button, when you hold the home button. Is there any way to remove the google icon as well?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2902419
And go to page 6 to see which things else can be blocked

com.carrieriq.tmobile.IQToggle
com.carrieriq.tmobile.IQOOB
com.carrieriq.tmobile

okay simple fix
- Download the latest version of Google Play Services from APK Mirror
(I would put link but I am new to this forum and it won't let me)
- Make sure the version number is xx.x.xx (030-xxxxxxxxx)
- Install
to fix grub menu not showing up on uefi systems
open cmd as admin and type:
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\PhoenixOS\Boot\grubx64.efi
Reboot
you can thank me later
Regards

It's built in, you don't need to install anything. Open settings, you sh see an option to update PhoenixOS, just make sure you're connected to the internet.
