Has anyone gotten the Google Assistant update? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Just wondering if anyone has gotten the play store app updates that have Google Assistant. I have side loaded the newest version of both play services and the Google app and still nothing. I'm running 7.0, 100% stock and don't want to root but I do want the Google Assistant. Any input would be cool thanks

Nah, man. Still waiting. Also on my G4 Plus, stock Android 7.0 Nougat, with the latest Play Services installed. Guess we just have to wait for weeks or even months.

Depends on your country. So far its been released only in the US i guess.

Massachusetts, USA.

Whoops. Wrong forum.

I live in the Washington DC area and I got Google Assistant within the past couple hours on both myG4 Plus my wife's. My wife's phone is stock marshmallow with locked bootloader and never been rooted. I have been running RR 7.1.1 the past couple days. I have been checking her phone periodically and as of 8 p..m. she did not have GA. I restored stock nougat on mine and found that I had it. I then checked my wife's phone and she had it too. We both had Google Play Services 10.2.98. It can read text messages now by the way.

I'm just curious. I recently installed a Google Play Services apk. file from apkmirror. If ever there will be a Play Services update available, will I still be able to update it via Play Store? State your answer and explanation.

Samsung Internet Browser now available on Play Store

just an FYI to my fellow VZW people, the samsung browser is available in the play store. on reddit, some vzw people said it still wasn't, while a few of us said it was, and we got it fine. i have it running with an ad blocker and all. try it out and see if it works for you. it's SO much faster than chrome, especially with Crystal (the ad blocker) so i deleted chrome. idc about synced bookmarks anymore honestly bc of how crappy chrome is on mobile.

I had already installed it from another thread on XDA then this morning when I clicked on a Playstore link for it, the Update button was live and updated it to a new version.
Yeah not working for me on a brand new phone with new software updates.

I was disappointed as well. I loaded Firefox and have been using it. Frankly, I like Firefox on my PC, but mobile, not so much. Thank you for the heads up.
I put a help ticket in at samsung asking for an apk. I'll update y'all with what they say
The 50 one in this thread is what I was using until my update from the Playstore. The Playstore updated it to the 51 version. Worked just fine for me.

i also never took any updates....i'm on day 1 stock with OTA frozen on my phone (because i don't like taking updates until i can verify with poeple that there's no issues, unlike the note 4 5.0.1 fiasco.....) so maybe htat has something to do wtih it? idk.

I downloaded the version from Dropbox as the one from mega won't install either. That works though the play store version still says not compatible.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Been using the 51 version since available, was also saying device not compatible, but today it links up perfectly to play store
I was using version 50 without a problem and the Playstore said it was incompatible until last Thursday when Playstore notified me of an update to Version 51. Let it update and runs perfectly.
So then, everything is working for you now?
Works for me today from the play store.

Google Assistant

Since Google Assistant is rolling out for all Nougat Devices in US, UK, Germany and other countries, here's how to get it now.
- Have Nougat (duuuhhh)
- Have latest version of Google App and Play Services
- First set system language to English (US)
- Then delete Google App data
- After some hours you should get Google Assistant (it just tells you so when holding home button)

Information - Issue & Solution- Android Pay Not working

Since I know many would come here to look for this issue and resolution as a first step, hence i am creating this thread.
Many users would see HTC U11 wont let you add cards to Android Pay, there will be a pop up saying that the phone cant be verified as it is either rooted, bootloader unlocked or running a custom rom.
It seems the Shipped ROMs are failing the SafetyNet / SecureNet Checks.
In case you are stock and this is happening, please go to to the
Settings -->About --> Software Updates--> There should be an update (bigger than) > 250 MB.For some reason this update did not show up automatically for me, this update fixes the Android Pay issue.
UPDATE:
1.11.617.3 OTA fixed the Android Pay
1.11.617.4 OTA Breaks the Android Pay

Yup that is precisely the problem .. going to play store settings and checking device certification at the bottom shows as uncertified and here is another screenshot of what happens when you check for Safety net :
I can almost understand the shipping software having this issue as they just expected all phones to update with the day zero OTA during setup. How the hell is this broken again with a second update HTC?
guys google needs to approve latest version it is probably be fixed within 24 to 48 hours probably even without a need for another ota just google play service update or store update which normally happens on the background

Thanks Char_G! I've been running this rom with the Pixel2 modded launcher and after the initial setup, it smoothed out nicely. It's been running great! I love all the features that are in it even in the early stages of this rom. Everything is working well for me so far. Kudos to the Dev on this one!
can i install official opengapps? on this rom?
Has anybody tried Android Auto with this ROM? It seems to connect just fine, but I only get a black screen on the head unit.
This was a great running ROM for me. But Android Auto is a deal killer for me. I am attaching a logcat for you guys to look at to see if you see any issues with it. It should be something do to with gearhead I believe.

The problem isn't Oreo, but the unlocked bootloader tripping safety net, Netflix also blocks rooted devices now. You can try magisk for root, I don't use it so I can't help you out with that.

Are NFC and Bluetooth working. Aside from some jankiness here in there, I think those are the only 2 things I've ever really had issues with on all the Oreo ROMs so far.
Edit-
NFC and Bluetooth look good so far! Only issue I've seen so far is OK Google detection Not letting me through the setup.

I did use GZR. I've installed to Google app from the play store. Doesn't that include what's necessary to use the hot word activation?

Just the google app is not enough, but definitely needed. You also need the assistant.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I've installed Assistant, uninstalled both Google app and Assistant, set them up again, checked permissions and default app settings...
This screen is as far as I can get. As soon as I click Get Started, it goes back to the screen showing "Ok Google" any time is still off.

With the HD10 it's easy once it's rooted. I believe DragonFire1024 mentioned something about making the Play Store default on the 8, but I never bothered since I allow the auto updates now that I got Google Assistant working
I almost feel like now that I've slept on it there might be a thread somewhere with instructions... I think you have to set it as like a system app or something... I'll do some thread searching after coffee and edit this post accordingly.
