ZUK Edge Bootloader Unlock/TWRP Recovery, etc. - Lenovo Zuk Edge Questions & Answers

I registered this new account today and the forum doesn't allow me to post any link, so you need to copy my links to your browser manually.
I just received my ZUK Edge last Saturday. The set up UI is in Chinese, if you could manage to pass the initial steps and switch the language to English, there are some tweaks can be done at this point even if there are no other ROMs available.
Launch the "App Center" and search for "google", install the frameworks you need to set up Google account and everything.
Unlike the previous ZUK phones, I was able to unlock the bootloader using adb directly (remember once it's unlocked the "System Update" will stop working and you won't get a chance to upgrade to ZUI 2.5/Android 7.0 via OTA, the phone is shipped with ZUI 2.3/Android 6.0.1 as today). I found a TWRP build on a Chinese forum.
https: pan.baidu.com/s/1nuH3oTz"]https://pan.baidu.com/s/1nuH3oTz
The password is bz5h
After you booted into Bootloader, your computer may not recognize the phone when you try to flash TWRP. In that case, you need to install ZUK USB driver. Again, this TWRP build is in Chinese at start up, it's not difficult to switch the language if you were already familiar with TWRP.
After I rooted the phone, I flashed the TBO version Google Now launcher and Pixel launcher, both work flawlessly, it's up to you which one you want to keep. Once this step is done, you can remove "ZUI Home" from the system completely.
Here is my screenshot after all the tweaks:

Hi, thanks for all this useful information. Do you know how to get ZUI 2.5/Android 7.0, if OTA does not work?

We have to wait the firmware to be posted on the internet, then flash with TWRP, fastboot, FlashFire or something like that. I recommend try FlashFire developed by the developer created SuperSU.
So far the ZUI 2.5 for Edge posted out is a development version, someone said it won't work when flashed over stable ZUI 2.3. I rather wait for 3rd party ROM like LineageOS so I didn't and not planning to try, and I suggest you to wait for the ZUI 2.5 stable build.

I just got my old account back.
Let's see if I can share the photo from my album.

It's really frustrating to share something here. Nothing is working.

The USB drivers you need to flash TWRP:
http://gsmusbdriver.com/lenovo-zuk-z2
You only need the one for "firmware flashing". You don't need to install anything special for regular file transfer or charging on a Windows 10 PC.

Messages in Chinese
It is \system\priv-app\DownloadProvider sending the notification in Chinese after switched language to English (ZUI 2.3 based on Android 6.0.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=13952&pictureid=55065
I corrected and rebuilt DownloadProvider.apk, but somehow I couldn't make it work.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=13952&pictureid=55068
Besides, I failed to install the apk through adb, always complain about permissions when "remount". I've tried the regular methods like adb root or rm in adb shell. I have to copy the modified apk to priv-app directly, maybe it's the reason it didn't work, or it has to be signed with specific cert I don't know.

Any suggestion?
I cleared Dalvik cache but my re-packed DownloadProvider.apk is still not working. Did anyone experience the same here? Like on Z2 or other models? I learned from somewhere ZUK Edge literally has the Z2 ROM with minimal modification when rushed out of the door. I guess Z2 has the similar behavior but didn't find any clue when search the forum.

It's interesting. Dialing *#*#5236#*#* on ZUK Edge is supposed to show the model of the display module, now it's showing AMS520_MAGNA_1920_1080_5.2, which is the 5.2" module on ZUK Z2, kinda suggesting the phone is flashed with Z2 ROM. Maybe I could give it a try with CyanogenMod ROM for ZUK Z2.

That won't work. The ZUK Z2 Pro runs on Snapdragon 820. ZUK edge runs in snapdragon 821. The rom would bootloop. Assuming it actually boots since the kernel is also not for the ZUK edge.

ZUI is probably one of the most developer or root unfriendly system. I found I couldn't adb remount the system partition, it turned out adbd is not running in root mode even though the phone is rooted. I had to use Chainfire's "adbd Insecure" to change the mode, whenever I set it to insecure mode, USB debugging is disabled. Then I figured I need to set SELinux mode to permissive (which Google hates it). After I installed SELinuxModeChanger, it couldn't gain root access, because I need set BINDSYSTEMXBIN=true and reinstall SuperSU. Man, what a hassle!

ZUI 2.5
Hi there! Typing from Italy and our most popular web-shop that sells Chinese Smartphones has the Zuk Edge already with Android 7 and ZUI 2.5
So my question is: can i unlock the bootloader as you mentioned before? Which is the best TWRP so far? The one posted on the official ZUK Chinese Forum?
And second things:
another Italian Web-site (GizChina) posted a ROM based on ZUI 2.3 Android 6 with GPS and multi-languages (just a few, but Italian, English, French, German are available). Is it possibile flash it from a device with Android 7 already in?
Thanks in advice

Can anyone share system dump?

As far as I know ZUI 2.5 for Edge is still under development, if they are selling the phone with 2.5 I'd assume that's not the final build. In terms of TWRP I think the one from my previous link should be fine, as Recovery is prior to the system, the newer ZUI should not affect TWRP vice versa.

ZUI
Yeah i write to some ITA blogs and they answered to me that the 2.5 ZUI is still under development. The phone comes with ZUI 2.3 and Android 6.0

Zuk Edge is available on Zuk official's unlock bootloader procedure to have the img file. Just a reminder

Hi.
I have just received my phone with zui 2.5.
I love the pixel launcher set up you have. I want to do this is it possible with 2.5?
Thanks.

Hi I love your theme pixel. It's a Rom custom? There is a Rom with multilanguage and android 7.0? I can buy edge only stock Rom (custom aliexpress) multi language only 6.0.1
I would like a Rom with nougat and French language, custom or stock Rom it's not a problem.

Hi! Thanks for instructions!
But i have a problem. I cant boot my phone in fastboot at all :/
Its a ZUK EDGE phone.

Save param
Reboot

Getinfo
No recovery, no fastboot, nothing familiar
Ive registered a Lenovo account, walk thru unlocking procedure online and i have the unlock_bootloader file. And catn flash it
Thanks in advance!

Galaxy S5 ACTIVE - working buttons on 900 roms

I had a problem with the buttons when a change the rom from Galaxy S5 G900
because g900 there is no preseed back button and menu button
home button only works because both models have pressed
after several hours of different combinations I came to solve the problem
Install ROM complies with the letter of your phone model
if you have g870F is a need to install rom with g900F not 900A or another model, otherwise you can lose your IMEI and network signal
First your must FULL backup your ORYGINAL S5 ACTIVE rom via TWRP or CW
Then do wipe before installing rom Galaxy S5 G900 (not active)
Install zip your new custom rom g900
after installation, do not reboot your phone !!!!
in TWRP, select the Restore menu
Select partition to restore
select ONLY BOOT

only one bug key activity does not work because s5 g900 does not have such a key
Hit "thanks" if you find it helpful.
Does not work on my G870F. Did that and all I got after reboot is Samsung-logo and nothing after that.
I tried to install CM13 and CM12 with same results. Rom installs just fine, but back- and menu-buttons doesn't work. Any ideas?

I work, do not do according to my instructions.
my method works with stock rom
per cm will not work and I will not translate so because as you change the rom you should know .
Good advice - if you do not feed a clue about it, is not taken for that because damage the device.

I'll explain more... At the moment I have rooted stock rom installed (SM-G870F, 5.0, G870FXXU1BOB4). I took full backup with TWRP.
I made full format to phone (format, factory reset, caches,...) in TWRP. Installed CM13 (G900F-version). Rebooted => Starts fine, looks fine, everything is fine except back- and menu-buttons.
Back to TWRP, Full format..., installed CM13, restored BOOT from backup, rebooted => Phone hangs in startup.

@davidof which G900F-rom are you using, perhaps this is rom-based problem
Read my previous post with the understanding !
Oh, you meant that both, G870F and G900F -roms, must be stock versions... Oops, my bad. Sorry
I was just so anxious to see if we finally have some way to use custom roms on G870F

Tried this and now I understood your tip about restoring Boot-sector Thx!
Rom is looking ok, only thing is that I cannot change default launcher. I want to use Nova, but everytime i boot my phone, TouchWiz is back If I get this one "bug" to work, this rom will be my new best friend
After year struggling with stock rom, you helped me to move on and I might stick with this phone a bit longer. HUGE THANX!

I had to re-flash Phoenix, but now everything runs smoothly and Nova stays as default Launcher. I used Nova-settings to make it default launcher, I used your tip, but nothing worked Nova was working nicely when I changed to it, but every time i rebooted the phone, TouchWiz was active launcher. Then I wiped the phone and flashed Phoenix with modified TouchWiz (first time I used stock TouchWiz) and now Nova stays as default launcher even if I reboot the phone. Don't know was it just a clitch in first flash or could it be case with modified vs stock TouchWiz, but it works now
Abd Phoenix seems awesome so far, battery life is better and you can modify your phone. Thx once again @davidof
Hi im tryin to install phoenix rom v12 on my g870f butit wont flash do i need to do something special ?
OTA won't work, I downloaded the ROM manually and flashed it, but it keeps stuck at boot logo, aparently Phoenix v12 won't work on G-870F
If anyone has a workaround that would be awesome, would love to finally have a cool Marshmallow ROM on our beloved S5 Active
I'd be interested to know if only phoenix 10.5 works...or can it be newer?
Phoenix V11.0 XXU1BPA2 works fine for me, but I'm hoping to get V12.5 to work, so if anyone has found a way

Official Oxygen OS Marshmallow for our Onyx

Look's like OnePlus finally released the Official MM releases of Oxygen OS. Following the last Community Build, its OOS version 3.1.2.
It seems like a quiet release of a rather big marketing point for OnePlus, seeing that there is no flashy blog or forum post deviating from OnePlus' usual tactic. But all that aside, all that matters (to most of us) is that its here, finally.
Well, go get it then.

I guess it's because OnePlus doesn't want any more attention for their bastard child. This update was released just to silent the annoying OPX owners. LoL
Downloading it now... I will try to dirty flash this update on top of 3.1.1.
The link to the oneplus x page gives "forbidden" but the direct link works. So now just waiting for sources so we have an updated twrp and kernel.
Successfully flashed the latest update on top of 3.1.1 through TWRP. Everything's good, the security patch is October 1st, 2016.

So, finally we got Marshmallow.
Excuse my ignorance, but i am a bit confused how to upgrade from CM. Without bothering anyone, can you eplain how to update safely?
From what i've read the are the steps:
flash stock recovery via TWRP
flash OOS 2.1.X first
flash OOS 3.12 now
flash TWRP v41 by eng.stk via fastboot for future upgrades or kernel istallations (this step is optional)
Is that right?
Oh finally they solved the bug of the airplane mode and the ****ed animation in the setting. Good experience overall if you enable the gpu rendering ( a little slower compared to lollipop both without gpu rendering )
Edit: even the manual selection of the operator is fixed! But i hatd how long the setting menu is now

[ROM][Nougat][7.0][SM-A9100] Nougat International ROM for Galaxy A9 Pro

Hi!
First, I would like to explain the reason for making this thread. Even though we are getting more help for popular models across the forum, A9 Pro remains something almost untouched. This is true specially for the Chinese varient. So, I decided to accumulate everything to a single thread that I found through some serious hunting across the Internet. The model that I'm using right now is SM-A9100. Hence, the remaining content will be mainly focused on that model.
I bought SM-A9100 outside of China which came Play Store pre-installed. When I tried to run the updater it failed even without connecting to the server. So, there were no OTA updates for me. Later, I screwed up my device after flashing TWRP using Flashify(ADVICE - If you are flashing a custom recovery using a 3rd party app, NEVER reboot to the recovery using the software implementation after flashing. Do it manually using the button combination. Otherwise, you won't be able to boot on to the System).
Later, I downloaded CHC-A9100ZCU1API2-20160909110156 build and flashed via Odin along with TWRP. But, it was full of Chinese rubbish. When I tried to flash SuperSU via TWRP, it aborted the process giving "patching sepolicy failure" message. Then I rooted using Kingroot and replaced Kingroot with SuperSU using a script and Terminal Emulator. That is the way worked for me. Finally, I flashed gapps pico package via TWRP. Later, I could remove most of the Chinese bloat using System App Remover. But, I couldn't find a way to replace Chinese oriented Yellow Pages, Baidu search, Weather app, Web browser and Sohu news etc. So, I was desperately in a need of replacing this Chinese ROM with a compatible International one(Nougat).
At the time of writing, There is no Nougat ROM available for the Chinese varient and no sign of having one in the future either. So, the only option available is flashing a ROM built for A910F.
But, As I was informed, A910F firmware can't be flashed directly on A9100 due to different hardware configuration. I looked for the specifications of the device on GSMArena and spotted no difference until expanding the network bands section. Thats where things are different. The two varients sports different modems I guess. So, flashing a firmware of other varient won't give you a hard brick apart from some expected issues on network reception and connectivity. Some people have tried following builds based on A910F firmware.
A9 Pro Elite ROM
Nougat International ROM for A9100
Common reported issue for both builds is, Back and Recent apps capacitive keys are not working. I would like to give a fix I found for the issue that may work.
Dial *#2663# on your phone app. It will open an app window for firmware update. Just tap on Touch key FW update(Network connection may required).

Since I haven't installed any of those ROM builds, I don't know whether this works. You can try it and report me whether it works.
It may be required to replace the modem firmware of those builds with the one dedicated for the Chinese varient in order to fix the network reception.
Get it from here and flash via Odin or FlashFire(I will show you in detail later).
My opinion : Since both models have Qualcomm chipsets, both should have Qualcomm modems configured for different bands(FDD or TDD) by the modem firmware. Since Qualcomm modem hardware usully supports almost evey LTE band, changing the modem firmware to allign the hardware to some specific bands may not affect your connectivity if your Service provider's band is included in the list. Correct if I'm wrong.
One of those above mentioned builds is based on Vietnamese XXV firmware and the other is based on Indian INS firmware. Even though you can get rid of Chinese by flashing any of those, you are more likely get into another country's bloat. I wanted a more Internationalized firmware. So, my problem is still not solved.
I looked for myself for a better firmware and found that Singapore XSP firmware to be good. There are a few reasons for picking this.
Open firmware and not carrier locked.
Defaut language is English.
Should be less bloated.
Still, I haven't even downloaded this ROM and I'm really looking at your feedback to proceed. I need answers for following questions.
Since I'm migrating from a Chinese ROM, should I need to perform re-partition or nand irase all or both with repair firmware flashing via Odin?
Or
Will a normal flashing via Odin be enough?
By using FlashFire, I can selectively flash only the components I need using the tar.md5 firmware file(i.e : boot, system, modem).
Will this type of flashing be enough to get the full functionality?
Should I need to replace the bootloader as well?
Finally, I need to replace the boot logo(NOT boot animation) of the device with the boot logo of the International version. I was looking for a soft way to do this for a couple of days and didn't find a way. Some people say that the boot logo image is in the kernel and some say in the bootloader and some say in the param partition and so on. I'm totally confused. My boot logo has some Chinese and unlock symbol with the word "custom". When I flashed the firmware last time using Odin, It didn't change the logo.
This is optional. When I enter the download mode, it displays the warning message in Chinese. Is there any way to replace it with the one in International ROM?
I saw in some threads that to do this nand erase all should be performed. Anyway, that is optional.
If you reply to the contents of this thread, please mention the topic you reply on the top of your comment.
Thank you!

[Question] Which ROM to install

Hello,
I have some experience with installing ROMs on Samsung Galaxy S4 with TWRP in the past but haven't done so in a very long time. With Xiaomi's disappointing announcement that they will not issue Oreo for Redmi 3S I'm looking for ways to obtain that Android version because I'm still stuck with stock Android v6 by MIUI, v9 Beta.
With the overwhelming amount of available ROMs I would ask for advice which one is most recommended for stability, continuous flow of stable updates and most developed in terms of features.
If you could point me to it along with a comprehensive guide on how to install TWRP with it it would be most appreciated. I looked up on Google, YouTube and many other sites but every guide has something in common and something different, which is why I'm not entirely sure about doing it because I don't want to brick my device.
Many thanks in advance!

1. Unlock Your Phones bootloader (works on any Xiomi device) :http://maheshtechnicals.com/2018/02/unlock-bootloader/
2. Install TWRP RECOVERY : http://maheshtechnicals.com/2017/07/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-on-redmi-3s-prime-3x/
3. Install custom Rom (Step by step tutorial with download links) :http://maheshtechnicals.com/category/xiaomi-redmi-3s-prime-3x-roms/
Note that it takes (at least) 72 hours to unlock bootloader now. You need "permission"(up to 7 days, usually 30-40 minutes) and "wait time" (72 hours for Redmi 3s)
I have done a full program packet scan, the "wait time" limitation is server side. The Xiaomi server holds your RSA decryption key for unlock on the server. It will not send it over until the 72 hour limit expires.
There is no way to get the unlock your phone without the decryption key, and it isn't sent until the server's 72 hour timer expires.
Here are the brief steps.
1) Sign into Mi Account on the phone (use existing Mi Account. More Forum points via older account = faster "permission")
2) Go to <mi unlock website>. Fill out form, in English is fine. I wrote something like I need to flash custom rom.
3) Wait 24-72 hours for "permission". This will be via SMS. Mine took 30 minutes.
4) Unlock developer mode on phone (Settings---> About phone---> MIUI Version (Keep tapping it to enable developer option)
5) Settings---> Additional settings---> Developer option and bind your approved Mi account under Mi Unlock Status. It should say account bound. If not, you need to VPN to get this to work. Look up a guide.
6) Reboot phone into bootloader (hold down power button and volume down. The word "Fastboot" and a xiaomi guy appears).
7) Finally, download the MI Unlock app (version 3.x.x) from <mi unlock website>. Login etc. Attempt to unlock. It should fail at 99% and say "wait 72 hours". If it fails at 50%, it means you didn't complete step (1->3) correctly.
8) Come back in 72 hours. should work.
The Official guide is a bit old and some of the pictures/links are outdated. Namely don't download Mi Unlock tool 1.1.xx. Download 3.x.x from <mi unlock website>
My last root/etc was Cyanogenmod 10 on HTC One S. So we are from a similar era

Hey sagar can you share "thermal-engine.conf" file from your unofficial rr rom ?
(You'll find the file in device>system>vendor>etc)
What is your device's charging time? (0-100)

Hey check your telegram. I just texted you
Hi everyone and thanks for the replies!
I was about to follow the steps to unlock the bootloader when I encountered two things,
1) I didn't have to file an application to unlock the bootloader, the website directly redirected me to the unlock app. Seems like permissions are already granted,
2) checking my phone's developer options I stumbled upon this:

I just wanted to confirm whether that means I can safely proceed with installing TWRP and flash a custom ROM and don't need to do anything else.
Guys I ran into a major problem,
everything succeeded with installing TWRP, but when I downloaded the CRDroid image from the official codenamed "land" and tried to flash it the TWRP recovery reported that "the package is for device 'land', this device is . "
Please help.

[ROM] ][OFFICIAL BETA]Color OS 12 C.08 for Oneplus 8

Caution: Always be careful when you flash files. Be sure to understand how to backup and rescue your device in case of flash failure. Since this is a Beta Version, there may bugs and issues which I am not aware of.
ROM:Color OS 12
Android 12 For Oneplus 8
Latest Version:
Color OS 12.C08
https://gauss-componentotacostmanua...22/01/07/6bf5ed54316c4863b4e314020b2e962e.zip
Previous Version:
Color OS 12.C07
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18iVphKzgeIc1mUsEZaGC9tgN_-fKiDKU/view?usp=sharing
Instructions:
You must be running latest version of Oxygen OS 11. Download the attached ColorOS 12 zip file and do local update. Place ColorOS 12 inside internal storage – Go to settings – System update – Tap on Gear icon on the right top corner – Select local update – Select file & wait for Installation to complete and then reboot.
Note: When you have an existing google account logged in before installing update file, Google Play and services will still be available but if you upgrade from a freshly formatted OxygenOS 11 device with no google account, it isn't available anymore.
I have two OnePlus 8's. Tested this method and works both on my global and T-mobile variant.
Also, it is weird when you check the about phone section, our cpu processor now says Snapdragon 855 lol
Root:
- Unlock Bootloader (if not yet unlocked)
- Download and install attached magiskv23.0 apk
- I have provided different Color OS12 root toolkits depending on the Software Version you installed. Download and extract.
- Reboot to bootloader
- Run coloroot.bat
- Done
To downgrade: use MSM download tool and flash your stock firmware / alternatively I flashed an incompatible boot.img via fastboot, ROM will crash and you will boot automatically in bootloader mode. Go to recovery and format data & cache, after a few reboots, system will go back to my previous Oxygen OS 11.0.9.9 build.

The actual version of this build is C.07 anf I corrected my title already..Is CBT 5 a later build for Coloros12? Could you share it?
This version is one build behind. Latest is C.08.will share it soon
oxygen 11.0.10.10 Does it work on
Also keep in mind that ColorOS by default has about 400 system apps installed. About 100 of those are random Chinese bloatware and spyware apps that can't be disabled without root. They somehow disabled using ADB commands to remove apps (fishy).
Im running c.08 right now fiddling with stuff but wouldn't recommend as a daily driver

yes still a lot of kinks. for one, I had to turn on and off USB debugging in C.07 just to get adb detected. Just installed C.08 and it feels a little bit smoother compared to c.07.

what is the better way for stability and clean UI? Color, Oxygen, Custom, or ditch the brand?

I personally daily drive OxygenOS. It's very stable and I like the look and feel. However AICP ROM, is by far the smoothest and cleanest experience for the Oneplus 8 at the moment. Big ups to that dev (semdoc) he's a genius been using his roms for years.
Does anyone know if it works on a oneplus 8 tmobile IN2017?
I am on global rom 11.0.10.10.IN21AA

If you know the developer of that ROM, please ask him to remove the built-in su (or whatever magisk detects). There's a possibility I'm thinking of some other ROM, but I think this was the one I saw that in.
Thanks.
OOS is a bit crazy with the aggressive power management. Overall, though, I do like it better than Samsung, heh.
