I bought the xt1625 Moto G 4th Gen Prime Variant 2 weeks ago - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

I bought the xt1625 Moto G 4th Gen Prime Variant 2 weeks ago and I was able to unlock my bootloader.... So what next?

That depends on what you want to do. Read through the guides and don't do anything rash or stupid. There are several good custom ROM's available, or you can install TWRP alone and just flash a custom kernel.

I just followed the directions on motorola's website. Mine is the the 32gb, could it be old stock?

I purchased the Prime 32gb version from amazon last week and was also able to unlock the bootloader on Motorolas website.

Yes it's the ad supported version. I still have the lockscreen ads and notification pulldown ads. I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp and rooted is all.

Well I'm still bad lucky

Mine is the ad supported version as well. I've installed twrp and rooted it too.

What did you all do, is there some kind of work around ?

I also have the Amazon Prime version (16GB) and am unable to unlock.. I would LOVE to so I can install LineageOS and jump to 7.0..

No I bought the 16gb variant December last year. So I'm trapped

I wonder if the 32gb slipped under the cracks

Anything at all?

Is it the Amazon ad version? If so, then you have very little to no options other than possibly removing the ads.

Yes, it is the XT1625. I bought when it was at $120 earlier this week. Initially I did a quick search and found several threads about removing the ads and rooting.
It wasn't till after the purchase when I found all the other threads about no more root / bootloader unlock / removing ads
I was hoping since mine is still on the older -48 version that I had some hope, but it isn't looking like it...
One more question then before I return this.
Can I enable wi-fi tethering an un-rooted Moto G4?

I'm not suggesting this because you never know with motorola and their policies but a couple of us bricked our Amazon phones while trying to flash them and had to send them to the service center. They were reflashed with non-Amazon roms at no cost. I wouldn't suggest trying anything though with the Amazon version unrooted. if you can afford it I would highly suggest returning it for the regular version.
I ended up returning it, and for another ~100 got the 32gb model...

One reason I didn't opt for saving a few bucks by purchasing the Amazon version of this phone. I've never regretted that decision.

Hehe, I always regretted getting the Amazon version but accidentally bricking it was the best decision I made when Motorola reflashed it with a retus furmware.

Yes, but don't update it via OTA or you will be back to Amazon version (or so I have read).

I would imagine those were on the Amz update channel but any phone on a retus update channel should not revert.

XT1641 Nougat Update

I buy a moto G 4 Plus 2 Sims and 2Gb of RAM with firmware MPJ24.139-23.1. But in some posts I read that to update to nougat I need the firmware 139.63 but my device says I'm updated. Why?
Another question: If I install TWRP can accept an OTA?

No, we haven't received any update at all, I have the phone since August and nothing in all of this time. It's so annoying. It's like Lenovo doesn't care at all about us. I'm honestly tired of being treated like a less valuable customer just because of our region :/

I would wait. It hasn't been released for this area yet and if you manual upgrade a soak you may never get the ota. From what I've seen I'd rather Moto wait and give us a more stable release than what's been released so far. I'm not sure why everyone is in such a hurry, we will get it and it will be more stable.

lI have same phone and have the same build as you. No update.
I went from -49 straight to Nougat. I reloaded the os though.
The reason I wiped and reloaded was that I wasn't getting the prompt for the update anymore.

I have the same model XT1625 amz, also did not come updates.
On the forum lenovo answered me "06.04 Not everyone has received it yet." (c) AlphaDog
The guy in the next topic wrote that he, too, was jammed with the old firmware, that he was helped by manipulations like for the return of brick life, get OTA 7.0
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71809639&postcount=7
Today my G4 was still stuck on -49 so I decided to try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/development/unbrick-hard-bricked-moto-g4-amazon-t3486578 and it worked beautifully. Phone is installing system update right now. I didn't have to unlock bootloader, just did as described except that I didn't use RSDLite but pasted all commands directly into fastboot. Thanks!!!!!
If in the near future I will not receive an OTA Update Android 7.0 to my Moto G4 XT1625 Amazon Prime, I will also try this method

Anyone working on TWRP and/or Lineage support?

I just bought the Qualcomm Snapdragon version of this today (XT1768). I'll try to have a TWRP build out this week. LineageOS I also plan to do for this device as time permits.

As long as it's not on a contract I think I can be rooted, I'm not sure how major carriers do their prepaid bootloaders. I say give it a try, if you can unlock the bootloader then yes it can be rooted.

I am getting this variant tomorrow. what is your progress? I am going to unlock and try to build on mine right out of the box. first self build. *fingers crossed* hope I don't brick it right away. maybe we can collaborate on any issues that we come across. I'm looking to have mainly unlimited super high speed data and great battery life, while still being a great phone that can multitask well.
Los 14.1 and 15 are being worked on currently.

What'd you use to root 107-75? I updated to it as soon as I received the phone, but didn't check if there was a root available prior and I couldn't find an updated stock ROM to patch the boot.img. No luck going to an earlier version, but maybe I was doing something wrong.
Thanks!
