Camera Lag..... - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Anyone else getting horrible camera lag? When I first got the phone everything was fine, but anymore when I open the camera app, it's like 20-30 seconds before I can even take a picture, sometimes longer. It's been this way the last couple of weeks and is VERY annoying, especially since that's one of the reason I went away from my Nexus 6P....
Anyone have any thoughts? I haven't installed any new apps in that timeframe that would affect it.....

Mine does it often as well, same with trying to use the finger scanner to unlock if the phone has been sitting for a while, it won't work.

Change from micro SD storage to internal storage if needed
Settings/Developer Options/Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" this should make this beast smoother/snappier" If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! LG V20 & LG G5 are snappy beasts, well optimised with Snapdragon 820 and is better than Samsung. Try removing and putting back your memory card from phone and check the lag gone till all good.

Just wondering if you have frozen or disabled any system apps before you have an issue with laggy camera app? Because mine went laggy as well after I froze certain system apps. Some apps I disabled causes my SD card to unmount itself as well.
I just restored my TWRP backup and the camera is functioning back smoothly without issues.

[Q] Start Up Load Time: 3+ Minutes??

Can anyone else who has an Xperia Play help me out here? I got the phone this past Tuesday. At that time, it loaded up rather quickly. Now when I turn it on, it takes over 3 minutes to load up. I literally turned my Nexus S on at the same time and I could have powered it on and off 3 times in the amount it took for the Play to load. It sat on the Sony Ericsson screen for like 2 minutes and then another 1 minute after the SE circle logo appeared.
A few details:
1. I am currently in the US on vacation using my Japanese SIM card. Thus I am roaming. The data is turned off however the phone network obviously isn't. When the SIM is out of the unit it loads up much faster.
2. The phone is not rooted.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to check if there is so kind of malicious program or something that was installed?
My xperia start up load time is aproximated to 3 minutes too.
Jep, same here. The OS is verry fast after the 3 min boot...
It takes a while to boot. Samsung I know have been targeting efforts to get the boot faster. Top of my head I remember them talking about trying to get the fastest boot time on the galaxy II.

I believe some Samsung and HTC phones are not actually "rebooting". They are going into some sort of hibernate.
My buddy has an HTC mytouch, and he was having crummy performance. I looked at his uptime, an it was over 1500 hours. I told him that's his problem, he should probably reboot.
When he did, I noticed it rebooted very fast. Performance was still in the crapper, and curiosity had ne check his uptime even tho it should have been reset after the reboot. It was still at over 1500 hrs. Then I realized it didn't actually reboot, just went into a hibernate explaininng the blistering fast reboot time.

WOW...so everyone else is having this issue as well? But it must have something to do with the amount of free storage on the phone, because when it was over 100MB it loaded up much quicker I've noticed.
Also on a side note, with respect to phones and hibernation...
My Desire HD has this issue. If you select "Shut Down" then it takes about all of 10 seconds to start back up. Yet if you select "Reboot" it takes almost as long as the Play. Clearly shut down is hibernation, especially since if applications have crashed or stopped working, shut down does absolutely nothing and thus I need to literally reboot to get them running again.
Finally, in my thinking there was something wrong with my Play, I formatted both the memory and the SD card. Can anyone confirm what was pre-installed on the SD card that I have lost? I noticed Crash Bandicoot was stored there but it can be re-downloaded simply by running the application. I know there are some sample pictures and music and possibly video as well, but anything important?

Samsung and HTC 'cheat' quite a bit when it comes to startup times. If you compare the time the Nexus One take with that of the Desire, the Desire is much faster, despite the hardware being the same. The same holds true with the Galaxy S and Nexus S.
From my experience with the Nexus S, I'd say the Play is VERY close to Stock Android 2.3.2. Sony Ericsson just added a few apps here and there and skinned the UI a little, but it feels, works and behaves a lot like the 2.3.2 on the Nexus S. Sooo... I'd say the long boot time is normal, and probably for the best for the device.
boot times are about 3 min as well.... however I find this to be a non-issue to me.
how often are you rebooting your phone though? Mine might go for weeks without being restarted... pending battery doesn't die on me of course

Just to ease your mind both my Motorola phones the X and OG were a couple min to boot up.

I noticed the boot times too, expecially since I don't really charge it much, I run it out and swap batteries as I have an excellent spare battery and charger also know as an x10 alway 3 minutes or so though, probably part due to drm checks, and part due to the storage almost full and it having to go through all the apps and initialize them.
To be honoust i have the phone for a few weeks now and only turned it off and then on for a few times. Boot time doesnt actually bother me.

Nexus 7 extremely slow :(

I got my Nexus 7 in the first batch from Gamestop on the day of release. Initially, the performance was very fast, even faster than my Galaxy S2. However, after a couple of weeks now, it has become extremely slow. It is still stock, havent even rooted it. It is a 16gb model, and has close to 10gb free. I have tried clearing cache, closing all running applications, restarting but nothing really has worked.
The problem is almost every app is very slow. I get a notification of an email, i click on it and then stare at the white email screen for almost 10 sec before it opens up (the regular email app). It almost feels like a different device now than what i bought few weeks back. Other applications that run equally slow - Google Reader, Chrome, WSJ (this is perhaps the worst), Fluent News Reader. I am not much into games so havent tried a lot of them.Oh, and it is no match now to my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket or even HP Touchpad Cm9 that i got rid of last week.
I don't want to exchange it as it does not suffer from all the other problems being reported here (and am afraid that the new one might exhibit those). Please help.
Just a guess, but you most likely loaded something on it that is doing that. Check what you have installed on it, perhaps uninstalling some of the larger things to see if you can figure out what is holding it up.
Stock Nexus 7 Image
If cleaning the device does not work, you can always flash back to the stock image, which can be found on developers.google.com
Be sure to backup your apps and data!
or for the most simple of us...
Setting>Privicy>Factory reset.
That will remove any app that might be causing it.
Be warned tho, i think on this device it wipes the internal storage...
how is your WiFi signal?
seeing how almost every app require internet access, the delay could be it trying to connect.
Actually I thought that too... but my wireless signal is very strong in my small apartment and i have 30mbps line. I checked with speednet app and i am getting 13mpbs down, 4 mpbs up on nexus 7.
I am happy that this seems like my issue only - i will try to remove apps one by one to see if it helps or worst case, i will do a factory reset.
I was wondering if there are any known culprit apps responsible for memory leaks or something.

I have noticed how mine has been very sluggish when there are apps upgrading in the background or installing, etc. Maybe turn off auto update for play store?

If you send me a PM, I'll give you my email address and I can help you narrow it down by using screenshots of your app drawer.
install watchdog task manager lite, it monitors app in the background and tells you which one is causing problems.
have you tried turning off gps (location service) and see if hats the issue?
same thing

Just wanted you to know you aren't alone here...I have been seeing the same exact behavior on mine. I have started to uninstall apps one by one. I must be a bad app or something. If not I'm gonna wipe it and start over. It does feel disconcerting to go from easily the best tablet experience I have ever had to it becoming so sluggish.
i have the same problem, mine did the same thing on stock, ran great for a week or two, then became unbearably slow. so i rooted it and it wiped all data and the problem seemed to be fixed. then another week or two passed and its back to slow. i found out after testing with quadrant it has something to do with the i/o on the device, because the i/o score was abnormally lower than all the devices. putting a custom kernel will help, but still the i/o score is still quite low. i dont want to wipe all data again and if anybody knows a fix it would be greatly appreciated
nexus 7 has Kingston eMMC, it is better then the crummy Prime Hynix eMMC, but is eMMC none the less, not proper NAND flash/SSD
Well you could've had a bad app that is bogging your system down. A factory reset may be the only option so you can start fresh

Check the cache size of your Google Playbook or Magazine apps. It keeps downloading large files (400 mb) and may fill up your storage...causing it to slow down?
Having the same issue after owning it for two days. I really wanted to like this tablet, but between the sluggishness, and other various shortcomings, I'm going to be returning mine.
I deleted WSJ app and it seems to have helped a lot - not as fast as new, but a lot better. One thing which still irritates me is email app which just seems to be too slow...
Sorry to say but mine so fast I can't keep it down it trys to fly away lol

Same
has anyone been able to figure this out? I'm having the same problems and I've been running watchdog but there been no out of control process is on my device. I have wiped the device and the same thing just keeps happening after a little while it'll get very slow. it happens more often than not when there something in the background downloading are using the internet, but it's definitely not my connection because I've had no problems with any other devices.
Been getting similar behavior recently. cm10 euroskank, trinity 7.
Edit: in logcat, getting stuff like
I/Choreographer(10656): Skipped 30 frames! The application may be doing too much work on its main thread.
W/InputEventReceiver(10656): Attempted to finish an input event but the input event receiver has already been disposed.
I think I may have come across a solution. For me, the slowdowns were always connected to when something was downloading in the background, or when a process was using data, so I went through and turned off syncing on any non-essential Google services and other apps, and it seems to be working much better right now.

Slowdown

Hey guys,
I got my N10 in the very first batch, bought it on day one, so it's been around six months now. Lately, for the past month or so, I've been starting to experience some slowdowns, and it's starting to be hurting my experience a lot. My Chrome app, for instance, takes a long time to register, and if I press on the "Home" button to go back to my launcher, the button is highlighted in white for 5 seconds before effectively going back on the home menu. Does anyone know what can be done about that? I'm considering a factory reset, but I'd rather keep my saved data and files for my apps and not go through backing up my dozens of apps. Thanks

First, don't use Chrome, it still sucks when compared to the AOSP browser, download the app Greenify from the store and use SD maid to delete all the unneeded stuff you have on your Nexus.:good:
You could try doing a factory reset and perhaps try installing a new ROM or kernel whilst you are at it as there can be speed gains with some of the alternatives to stock. It doesn't really take long to back up your apps with the right program. Have you looked at titanium backup?

I assume you have done a shutdown and restart? I was getting slow responses and that cured it for me.

Even chrome beta is a large improvement over chrome. Most of the ROMs have large speed ups over stock so I would suggest that or at least a new kernel if you don't want to back everything up.

When I only have about 2gb or even 3 I think the sdcard gets awfully slow for me. I have 32gb version. Drop from 20mb write speed to below 5. And a lot of things are really slow. Cleaning up to get some more space solves it for me. Has happened twice so far. Not sure I my nexus is bad or if this is normal but a hint is to check your sdcard speed.

similar issues
I've experienced similar issues but i can say much of my slowness started immediately after the 4.2.2 update. Prior to the update, my N10 was performed flawlessly. I don't use chrome and will try out Greenify and SD Maid and see if that helps.
Quick update: I realized today that I thought my N10 was rooted, while it actually wasn't. I used the N10 rooting toolkit a month or so ago, and I thought it worked, but didn't actually try it. However, Greenify kept telling me to grant it SU and I ended up noticing I couldn't actually explore the root in ES File Manager, so I did a root and flashed the KManta kernel.
So far, it's EXTREMELY smooth, just like when I got it. However, having only 500mb of apps on it helps, hehehe.
I also received my Patriot Node, on which I'll put all my media files from now on. I am going to experiment to see which ones work and which ones don't.
I also deleted all the useless apps I had (which can be many). I am not sure of what I lost exactly, but I'm sure I didn't lose anythinig important, except for my Mass Effect Infiltrator save. Whatever
I almost flashed Paranoid Android, but then I figured I like the stock rom and didn't need a different one.
As for KManta, does the fast charger actually work? What does it do? The thread here on XDA doesn't say much, is there any way to have more info on its features?

It supposedly makes charging faster when connected to a computer usb port... I've never tried as I don't have a PC
I can tell you it does nothing when charging from the power adapter
Fast charge AFAIK is not implemented for our kernel yet
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
oh ok, great, good to know, thanks guys!
Just a noob question.. Assuming I don't change any value, is this kernel still supposed to be faster than the stock one?
Also, I'm guessing undervolting will make it slightly less powerful but eat less battery whereas survolting it will add to performance and kill the battery (and the hardware)?

Heavy lag

Hi guys,
Has anyone noticed heavy lag and freezing when using the phone. I don't have a lot of apps installed and i have disabled most apps that i don't use and the phone is still giving me issues.
Any advice is appreciated. [emoji4]
I switched from RAZR MAXX HD and this phone is a space rocket in comparison to my old Droid. Have you tried factory restore? Then if it lags - I would try to return it to Moto.
Check CPU utilization. Maybe some app hangs on. I've noticed that noozy (music player) lags like hell when album is over and player remains in notification bar.

I have the same problem, I tried to removing as much as possible automatic start calling but often when I uncheck the receiver this puts me "failed" in Rom Toolbox, I have tried Xposed Auto Boot module, but I do not feel that it works.
But for me, I have a lot of app instaled and my UI is very modified (Nova Launcher, Gravity Box, various Widget), so I know why he lag, but I still find it overheating lot and that's what most do slow.
Hi, I am having same issue. My configs was same as you, @Trinytix, but I had uninstalled all of them because lag issues. And now I continue to have same lag issues. When I use the standard cam for five minutes it become freezy and lag and sometimes I lose some photos. All the time it is burning. Just stops to burn when I leave it without work about 30 minutes. I think the problem is the snapdragon 810 but in other foruns some say that the problems with this processor was fixed.
I've been having similar issues, I got really into theming (using nova prime) the last couple of months and at the end of January the phone started to really lag hard. A couple weeks ago I stopped being able to open any apps other than the phone and google's messenger. I tried to factory reset from settings and could not (device gets stuck un the power down sequence), so I went the recovery mode route. reinstalled a fraction of my apps, put back a much stripped down version of my theme, and things were mostly ok, if a little laggy. However, the phone insisted that there was no SD card (internal or external) despite there being a 64GB card, which would sometimes show up when viewed in settings, some apps (podcast addict) were able to access the internal memory, but others couldn't (cameras, sms, photos, music). Yesterday the keyboard ceased to launch for more than a split second at a time, and would not take any input (you would not believe how infuriating this is unless you've experienced it first hand). In an attempt to regain some functionality I started uninstalling everything that I don't consider vitally important (bus app, podcasts, messenger) couldn't get through more than 1 or 2 at a time because multiple windows would stack telling me processes like "motorola" "android" and "media" had stopped. I did succeed in stripping away all the automation apps and theming apps (tasker, nova, icon packs, etc). I can't even place a phone call on the first try.
Oh and to add insult to injury I have to darned green lines about 0.5cm wide now.
Looks like hw problem or system got corrupted. Try to re-flash whole system but if is hw...

Phone lagging need help

Hey guys so I currently have the att lg v20 h910 model I believe and I'm having some issues I'm sure theres a bunch of threads on this already but thought i would just ask. So it's lagging pretty bad In my opinion I love the phone and the specs but I do not understand why it's lagging for what i paid. Coming from mostly iPhones and jailbreaking I'm not really used to android but I damn well love the fact that I can do everything on stock android that I cant do on a stock iPhone basically the Android can do more at stock than basically a jailbroken iPhone can do which is crazy. So the lag I'm experiencing is mostly in YouTube app basically the video will pause but the sound keeps playing so the video is actually playing but the picture that's on the screen is paused and camera which is extremely laggy sometimes I'll open the camera app and it will be shaky and when I move the camera around its blurry and looks like straight up pixels lol looks laggy when moving the camera. sometimes it can be on the home screen randomly sometimes it flys which is weird I don't have alot of apps on here also and I currently do not have a SD card I know this sounds stupid to you guys but remember I'm coming from iPhone... So does a SD card improve performance? Does it get rid of the lag or something? I also would like to note I don't mind rooting as long as it fixes the freaking lag.. Also my device is not a bad apple out of the bunch I actually got a replacement of the same phone from att they logged into my phone and saw the lag sent me the same device and they new device was doing the exact same thing the old device was so I sent back the new one and kept the old bc I have all my apps up here. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I just want to enjoy my phone =(. And sorry for the long post.
Settings/Developer Options/Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" this should make this beast smoother/snappier" If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! LG V20 & LG G5 are snappy beasts, well optimised with Snapdragon 820 processor and is better than Samsung.
No SD card doesn't slow or lag a powerful phone like the amazing V20, I have tons of storage since I use a 128 GB micro SD and no issues.
What class is your sdcard (if any)? I've found that a slow sdcard can have some terrible effects on performance, in fact this has been an excuse to remove external memory support on some phones by the developers because they tend to be significantly slower than the internal memory.
I have Spotify and the storage set to external on a class 10 cars and there is noticeable lag in the program compared to other programs. It lags just as much as it did on my v10 other programs do not exhibit this behavior.
Also as much as I hate Apple they make some incredibly fast processors and in general their processors are faster than Qualcomm's processors. Still in day to day operations this shouldn't be noticeable and there shouldn't be lag on the v20 as you're describing.
I am running non-rooted and do not experience this lag. If you want to try force GPU rendering you have to enable developer options you can do this by:
- going to settings, go to about phone
- tap software version, tap build number (7 times I believe) you'll be told developer mode enabled or something to that extent
- now go back to settings you'll have a new developer option available
- scroll down until you find "Force GPU rendering", put a check, this may or may not smooth out your performance.
The theory is that this will force the GPU to take on more tasks freeing up the CPU for other tasks, essentially they share the load more.
Welcome to android, you'll be floored by the amount of stuff you can do on android that you can't do on iOS. You should check out some of the 3rd party launchers if you want some more customization to the look of android. I recommend ADW launcher 2.0, Action Launcher or Nova.

Battery pull, reinstall of app, clear cache; there are various options to remedy your issue. Try all of the suggested routes and see if it helps. Good luck.
Just pointing out he said he has no SD card...
The only lag I have experienced was with my stock messaging app. Typing lag was driving me crazy. Didn't seem to matter which keyboard I used.
I don't know if it's because I don't delete my texts or what but I switched to the Textra messaging app and the lag seems to be gone. (and I like the app better too!)
What you're experiencing definitely doesn't sound "normal".
You shouldn't have to change settings to get a smooth running phone.
It's strange that the replacement showed the same lag. Did you install any apps before testing for lag?
Seems like there could be an app causing this. I'm not really qualified to help except to say it's just not "normal" so I hope you can get it figured out!
Hey guys sorry for late message so yeah I sadly don't have a SD card I feel like I don't really need one I don't use that much data I can add that I use Spotify as well and I have over 2k songs easy I listen to alot of music lol. But I don't think that should make a huge difference in the speed maybe it does idk for sure though. So another extremely noob question can I root with no SD card? If so I'll probaly do it and use a different rom or something hopefully that will help. So enabling developer options with gpu rendering did not help sadly its basically the same performance seems like it. And yes I'm loving the android experience so far but I can say atm iPhone had way better performance as in speed and what not but hopefully if I can get this beast working right I'll be satisfied.

Yeah im thinking it could be a app on the phone but idk for sure and not really I actually tried it with factory reset a couple of weeks ago it was about the same experience... At just stock..
Alright guys quick update i actually just got my device rooted took like 2 freaking hours i kept running into issues anyways in the end it did get rooted but its basically acting the same... For instance when the phone cut on finally and finally starting to add all the information to setup my phone the menus were so laggy that it took me 10 mins just get through the setup process... and then on top of that i went into developer options and it froze up and had to reset settings application. I know that it said to do another adb reboot recovery after it finally started back for the first time into android and i did that... but its still extremely slow. And throughout out the setting up the phone process i naturally did not recover the apps from my old phone i wish there was a way to setup the phone just like it was before i rooted it.... I also would like to know what would be best option as far as mods and roms go... I have to have wifi calling as i have no signal in my house which is retarted... so wifi calling has to be on... thats about all i care about i dont need fm radio, or any of that other stuff. (edit) well i recently found out that i screwed up lol i rooted with dirty santa and i thought the wifi calling would only be screwed up with a custom rom boy was i wrong so the wifi calling doesnt work with rooting =( well im going to download the factory rom and reset it again lol.
