Hi, I'm considering a migration from G3 to Zuk Edge, and I would like to know general impressions about the device, any irritating bugs, faults, downsides, etc. that I should consider before purchase.

Is it the same ****ty camera as in the Zuk Z2 Pro?

Has anybody been able to find root method/bootloader unlock/TWRP method with this device yet? I mean, seeing how it uses a Snapdragon 821 (comparatively dev-friendly compared to Mediatek or Kirin chips) and previous ZUK phones have had decent developer interest and custom roms, there should be at least something by now... maybe I will hunt in some Chinese language forums.

Hi
I recently was browsing through some websites. I found out that lenovo is releasing official method to unlock the BL. And guess what, it's gonna be the old fashioned way: request for unlock code on their website, get code on mail, unlock through adb.

Hi
The ZUK Z2 Pro was a total failure. I mean...just see the reviews on amazon! I hope that they have improved the camera module.

Then again, the ZUK Z2 (the 5" version, NOT the Pro) is probably the cheapest Snapdragon 820 device out there. Last time I checked there were aliexpress listings selling the ZUK Z2 for about $190 US and the ZUK Z2 Pro for $290 or so. So its basically a mid-ranger with a flagship processor. IMO I think people went in thinking the camera would be good because it had a good processor, then came out disappointed when it wasn't on par with the Samsung S7 or something. Then again, I never tried out any ZUK phone so this is just what I think.

I have been using ZUK Edge since Saturday. Comparing with my old phones (Galaxy S6, Nexus 5X), this phone is the winner. The battery holds up very well, I was able to use it a day and half without charging and still had 30% on the 2nd day before lunch. Even though the screen is not AMOLED it's good enough, video looks amazing because the bezels are so tiny.
Previously I was carrying 2 phones, one with my work number and one with my family number, now with the dual SIM capbability, I'm carrying one instead. Such a relief.
It doesn't have NFC, if that bothers you.
First irritating thing, you need a lot of tweaks to make it works here (well some may enjoy it, this is XDA after all. See my other post for the details). Even after you switched the language to English, Chinese text are still showing here and there. I was able to get rid of most of them after rooted, but the custom DownloadProviderUI still showing Chinese caption in Notifications. I bet ultimately I'll fix it though.
Another obvious issue is the slow charging. It takes a couple of hours to fully charge the phone, it becomes obviously annoying if you were used to the other phones with the latest quick charge technologies.
One more thing, the notification LED is RIDICULOUSLY DIM, I didn't see it for the first a few days when it's ON, then I plugged the charger in and out repeatedly, finally I found there was a little dot seems to turned into dark red - that's it.
---------- Post added at 05:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:09 PM ----------
Another merit is the U Touch button, once you get used to it, it's very handy, and saves screen space when you don't need the virtual buttons.

Nope, ZUK Edge is different than their previous products, you don't need anything from Lenovo, just use adb you can unlock the bootloader.

I have to admit if I replace this phone later this year the poor camera would be the number 1 reason. I look at the photos I took with this phone, it's disappointing (comparing to Galaxy S6 and Nexus 5X I had used before this one).

I was about to buy Z2 PRO, but after reading post after post about the horrid camera performance i not going to buy...yet. I cant believe how a 13MP with OIS/EIS and 1.8 aperture can take bad photos. The Zuk Edge is better taking photos? It has a 2.2 aperture and no OIS... si it (theoretically) have worst camera hardware.

ZUK Edge has the worst camera I have seen in the past 2-3 years. Since I won't be able to get their updates, I'm afraid I won't see any improvement during my ownership.

So you already have the Zuk Edge, and the camera is terrible? What is happening to Zuk enginners??? Can you upload some pics to see? Thanks!

Outdoor is OK, but shooting indoor you will immediately see the difference. I'm attaching 2 cropped photos because of the size limit on this forum. The environment wasn't extremely dim, just average indoor conditions.
The original size of the photos is 4160x3120, these are either cropped or shrank.

Thank you so much for the review. Now I'm considering the Xiaomi Mi6 too!

Add Google Account
Hello,
I just got the zuk edge. Now Im trying to add a google user (me) in the phone. But when I open up the play store to sign in I'm getting a white screen and nothing happens. Also in settings nothing happens. The same for all the other google apps that are preinstalled. Does anyone have a solution? Im on Zui 2.3.079 ST

Try this, worked for me:

I just needed the new google framework. I downloaded it from apkmirror.

For camera quality i surf a while ago on the Chinese Zuk forum to read some news. 2.5 ZUI beta is out. You can download it and install it through TWRP (with super-su) and someone says that the camera quality improved a lot (same results as in Zuk 2 & 2 Pro). That sounds good for this mobile.
Second if you have problems with Google Frameworks try-out in the main page the 2 ROM i posted during those days. People says that the BB72 from GrossoShop is better than GizChina.

Non existant After-Sale Support

Hi,
After an issue with my ZUK Z1 (which is dead actually), I tried to contact ZUK's After Sale support via e-mail and Skype, twice and both never answered.
See : http://zuk.hk/qa
The email is : [email protected]
Skype : ZukSupport
Should I conclude that ZUK's support is actually some kind of... myth ? I hope not because if that's the case, we're all really *****d and this is unacceptable !
If you had successfuly contacted ZUK's support, please, leave your method here !
Cheers

Is the phone really dead or just not booting any OS?
Does phone react when you charge it? Can you start recovery mode by holding both vol+ and vol- at same time while powering on handset?
Any reaction if you hold vol+ and plug usb cable into pc?
As far as I remember, I only tried Power+Vol- (that was the only one I knew) and it didn't work. I currently don't have the phone with me because I'm vacations but I'll try all of this as soon as I come back home.
And the phone was bricked : bootlooping every 2 second, showing the boot logo :/
Thanks for your help anyway, even if the thread was more to discuss the abscence of support from ZUK

Think that had / has something to do with their previous partner they used for aftersales not getting paid. Not sure how the situation is now.

@tndb Well, I came back home tonight and tried both solutions (Vol+ and Vol- held while powering on and Vol+ while pluggin the USB cable to a PC) and unfortunately, none worked
@snuffelkees I didn't knew that but this is definitely not gonna play in ZUK's favor : They are a new chinese brand among many others, and I know many Z1 users that bought the device with a Lenovo's quality After Sale support as a main argument compared to other chinese brands (which means they were expecting a reactive and good support). The fact that ZUK as literally no After Sale support is going to totally destroy the brand's image as soon as this fact will get known (when they'll be an increase in After Sale support demands)...
ZUK has to react quickly on that point :/
Completely agree ! If LENOVO's name wasn't stick with ZUK's name, I wouldn't ever mind thinking buy this phone.
Since times, I m sure there is something wrong with this phone : good hardware but :
. bad software : lags, photo, fingerprint...
. no community, ni custom ROM
. cyanogen team is invible, even on official support
. zero communication from zuk
. not so good battery life for a 4000mha battery

Not sure how/why you are having a bad experience. Fingerprint reader works just fine in cyanogenos aswell as in zui, My comparision is against samsung s6 and z5 compact and zuis Fingerprint reader is more accurate and quicker than these two. Camera is alright and it does its job, nothing more nothing less. If you check reviews it beats oneplus 2 camera in daylight but have trouble nighttime as many other phones.
Not sure where you experience lag either, if its from gaming then prob sure. I dont game on my phone and never experience lag unless there is a misbehaving app.
Battery life is really good aswell, sure I also expected more from 4100mah but at the same time its decent enough and beats most if not all other flagships out there with 10+ SOT (regular use, gaming not included) and we still have marchmallow to expect which will further improve batterylife.
Lastly this is a sub 300euro phone. It has Awesome build Quality, Fingerprint reader, optical image stabilizer, decent camera, Usb-c, big battery, 3gb ram and 64gb storage. The only thing that it lacks for me is lte band 20 otherwise its almost a perfect phone.
Name 1 phone which has all of the above functions? There is none yet and even less so for the same price..

Thats what i say : very good hardware, very poor software. Just compare to honor7 (but 220€+16gb card For free).
Fingerprints ? realy fast, multi function, just touch it, dont nées to push it.
Photos ? would realy curious to view the comparison with o+2 because technicaly the cam on o+2 is beter. Did you one time tweaks o+1 (the exact same cam) dng/raw un lightroom ? Then you could understand what you can do with the cam of a phone (camera2 API since lollipop). OIS is one thing, but honor7 and moto g3 do the same thkng with their f2 aperture.
Lags ? Any time I feel the 801 to strugle with something. Games are good (the sames 3d games with galaxy s4nowm were fluent as well). I feel the différence with s4 zoom and h7).
Battery life what to say ? Is it difficult to have descent autonomy with 4000mha ? H7 do near the same with 25% less.
Honor 7 have FM radio, IR blaster, usefull dedicated button.
Dont read my answer as something personnal.
And now now after sales support.....
Honor 7 has a 5inch screen while zuk z1 has 5.5inch, also the soc used in honor 7 is a different one than snapdragon 801. Also from a quick google search I cant find 5.1 for honor 7 (not following huawei progress any so might be wrong)http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/general/plk-l01-firmwares-updates-official-beta-t3272205 but from my understanding is that huawei isnt that great when it comes to firmware updates as many other and not too sure about their customer service either. Zuk z1 is still a pretty new phone and brand from Lenovo so only time will tell if its good or not. But just because it has Lenovo behind the curtains doesnt mean that you will get same service as you would from the bigger regular premium brands (my interpretion of it Anyway)
There are ifs and buts for many phones. No phone is perfect yet and who knows when that special phone will finally arrive but 2016 will prob be a very exciting year for phone tech
The phone is what you make of it. Me and a few other individuals are trying to bring some additional beef to the table in the form of updated device trees / ROMs but generally it's a very decent device that isn't getting the attention it needs.
Like with all sub 300 buck phones support is (most likely) an issue / myth, unless you bought it from Amazon (they are very supportive in matters of exchange).
STOP this phones war, it'll get you nowhere :/
This isn't what I meant in the first place, what I meant was : When you're buying the device, it is mentionned : "2 years manufacturer warranty" but the fact is that there is literally no After Sale support, so this should be considered as a scam/false advertising. Period.
Actually the phone was pretty good for a sub 300€ omitting the numerous littles bugs present (which made the phone much less pleasant to use BUT not unusable).
Personally I'm entirely satisfied with this phone.
It has great potential:
- Ultra fast and stable (no FC, no reboots, no lags, no battery drain)
- Fingerprint works well and is really fast
- Wifi is OK
- Amazing battery life: 1.5 - 2 days
What I'm using:
- TWRP based on JoaoPaulo's build, modded by MrColdbird (thx to both of them for that :good
- CM Nightlies
This device is much better than any Samsung phablet I've ever had.

The biggest con for me is the low video quality, even on 1080p. (Cyanogenmod)

Could you try with that camera? It gives me better results than the original CM one. But yes, the picture is a bit "grainy".
God... I didn't said that the device wasn't good/has not a good potential, I just pointed the fact that there is literally no After Sale support (opposed at what is mentionned when we're buying the product). If one day you have an issue with the device (for exemple : broken touchscreen, or any hardware issue, that may be the battery, the fingerprint scanner or a dead motherboard or whatever) YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR 300 BUCKS. THAT'S ALL... Because there is no repair point, or no warranty support AT ALL.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Honor View 20, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Honor View 20 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I just switched to honor devices first time and it's difficult to use
May be it's due to pie upgradation or honor device but it requires too much permissions for any app
I was panic till 1 day because I was not getting notification until I open the app then I gave permission for notification which lead to resolution
Should I buy or not?

I think you should buy global version because features are much impressive but I am facing notification issues in Chinese rom which is very annoying for me and I am thinking to switch
Otherwise phone is good for camera, performance, battery timing
The phone looks stunning, most beautiful phone I've ever seen. Camera is amazing, tho I haven't got a clue on how to use most of its functions and there is no tutorial either which sucks. Having the Global Model was a surprisingly disappointing buying experience since it did not come with headphones nor back cover so I had to buy one. The icons are very large as is text. That was also surprising, as I'm used to small icons and text. Despite changing both to the smallest possible it's still huge.

Thoughts
It is worthy my money¿
I think the phone is great (5 stars) but I will give it 1 star because it's been out for 6 months and even after contacting Huawei through various means including twitter, Huawei can't/doesn't care about fixing the f*ing weather app so that my town is found in the search.
All phones I have ever used can find Guildford, England, including all other Huawei phones but this one doesn't.
It's 6 months to fix a bug that would probably take 5 minutes if anyone bothered so f*** off Huawei you are too arrogant to ever get my money again.
my current phone is honor 10, i love it very much, so for my next phone i will also choose honor, honor 20 should be much better.
Surprising Phone
I got mine as part of a downsizing of my contract costs, so this cost me £20pm for a 24month contract.
For the money, it simply is incredible. Considering the phone launched at £579 (I got the 8/256GB model) the drop in price to get a 2GB/Unlimited everything else contract for less TCO than the RRP is pretty great.
The screen is bright and somehow better in sunlight than my old S8 despite the latter officially having a much better sunlight contrast. The phone performs great with a 300k+ AntuTu score, and no apps phase the thing. With a bit of work getting a consistent dark theme helps a great deal too in terms of usability and the UI feels fine to sue although I instantly switched to the familiarity of the Microsoft Launcher.
The main camera is so much better than I expected for a budget flagship. The AI Ultra Clarity mode is stunning when used outdoors. Need to test video mode but compared to the S8 the main camera is a massive step up. The selfie camera is average but I'm not too worried about that.
Overall, yes you lack stuff like a periscope zoom camera and wide angle, but considering a S10e would cost me £200 more TCO, come with 128GB less storage? It isn't enough of an upgrade to justify the expense, despite the AMOLED screen being undeniably better. Design wise, the View 20 is more than a match and the back pattern on the Phantom Blue is amazing.
Overall, so far, so good.

Yeah, they should've helped a lot sooner especially for what could've been a simple fix to get back to you with. Customer Service really is important and this is a big failing frankly.
Hello if anyone here does not play the Game Fortnite but uses this phone, please contact me at [email protected] there is an exclusive in game cosmetic with the phone to claim for free and i would like it!
If anyone has this phone and does not play fortnite I would appreciate it if you could send me the code that comes with the phone to unlock a skin in game for fortnite. I would really appreciate it if you could email me the code at [email protected] since I want the Honor 20, but cannot afford it at the moment and would like the fortnite skin at least for now.

I just switched to honor devices first time and it's difficult to use
May be it's due to pie upgradation or honor device but it requires too much permissions for any app
I was panic till 1 day because I was not getting notification until I open the app then I gave permission for notification which lead to resolution

yes it is difficult to use first time but with the time you are going to love this device
Honor View20 is such an interesting phone. It's hard to love when it was the first phone with a 48MP camera, ToF sensor ect.....

Huawei vs Samsung – question about your experiences

The question goes to those who have experience with both the Huawei mate 20 Pro and the Samsung S10 +.
I myself come from Oneplus 6 and have preordered the S10 + (Exynos, Ceramic black, 512 GB) to get the additional earbuds. Now Samsung has informed me that this preorder - promotion cannot be claimed for me, because I ordered via Amazon (although this was advertised on Amazon). "Relatively" seen the S10 + is therefore still too expensive (in fact that I now have to buy the ear buds additional). On the other hand the price of the S10+ has already fallen by about 100 €, so the "preorder" was without any sense for me.
Now I've considered two options. Either return the S10 + and buy it later (when it's cheaper) or consider the upcoming Huawei P30 pro.
Therefore I´m interested in experiences from those, who know Samsung and Huawei. I have to say that I am very satisfied with the S10 + itself. In particular, in the following points:
+ great feel and look, in Ceramic black it looks just fantastic and feels very high quality
+ display just great
+ battery drain (8-10h SOT over 1 1/2 days or about 5h SOT over 2 1/2 days)
+ All around functionality
+ beautiful user interface (dark theme, dialer...) and intuitive menu
+ camera. The raw files are only slightly better than the O6. The jpegs are more than ok.
+ Stereo sound and sound quality (especially sound enhancement setting for listening to music - not as good as viper4android, but sufficient and noticeably better than what I've known before)
+/- Overall speed, but only marginally faster than my OP6, wifi even much slower, but I can live with that.
+/- "bloat ware" incl. Bixby, in total not so useless
How does the Huawei mate 20 pro behave in these points - haptic, display, colors, user interface, quality, functionality, sound quality etc in terms of what I would expect with a Huawei 30 pro. Although this will certainly be a great smartphone, I'm a bit skeptical. Just because I'm really excited about Samsung for the first time.
Root is required for my choice (titanium backup and some other apps that require root). I really want to get away from custom roms. In this regard, I feel at Samsung for the first time really arrived - hence the interest or the question of the overall feeling at Huawei. I do not really care about the brands themselves, so I do not want to start any "fan boy" discussions.
I would be very thankful about your opinion or your experiences!

+ great feel and look, in Ceramic black it looks just fantastic and feels very high quality Ceramic Black is 1500 Euros (so is white) ; on the other hand, the rugged feel of Blue and Greeen Mate 20 Pro feel great , no prints , no grease
+ display just great I also like the S10 plus display, but I like Note 9 more and also Mate 20 Pro feels more vibrant (it totally depends on preference)
+ battery drain (8-10h SOT over 1 1/2 days or about 5h SOT over 2 1/2 days) : no flagship beats Mate 20 Pro in terms of battery life (this is kind of end of story, no BUTS), never feared I could remain uncovered
+ All around functionality Samsung is Better here, everything is done directly, no tweaks needed (except for the Infrared remote of the Huwaei, which I used)
+ beautiful user interface (dark theme, dialer...) and intuitive menu : Samsung better here, no doubt (except for the fact that Huawei supports large almost full screen caller images, while Samsung is stubborn again)
+ camera. The raw files are only slightly better than the O6. The jpegs are more than ok. : camera on Mate 20 Pro has no match. You should personally have both phones and see for yourself. The portraits dont have a match on any phone.
+ Stereo sound and sound quality (especially sound enhancement setting for listening to music - not as good as viper4android, but sufficient and noticeably better than what I've known before) : Sound quality better on S10 plus, finally fixed the loudness, now you can here the notifications ( I had to use Volume booster on Note 9)
+/- Overall speed, but only marginally faster than my OP6, wifi even much slower, but I can live with that. : Unnoticeable , both feel great and move fast
+/- "bloat ware" incl. Bixby, in total not so useless : Huawei doesnt have this issue.

Hey there man, I have answered point by point to your questions. I should also add a few "small" things :
- Huawei has better notifications: way better! With Samsung , when you dismiss the notifications from the bar, ALL app badges clear and you soon forget (of course) where you had unread notifs. This is the most annoying thing about Android 9 on Samsung. You can work around this by installing Microsoft Launcher.
- In my opinion the fingerprint reader on Mate 20 Pro is better (even if it is optical) and better placed. With Samsung you have to lower you finger too much and lose the grip on the phone
- on S10 family there is no notification LED , Samsung gave that up. I hope Huawei will not be that dumb with the P30. There is a workaround as well called Always on Edge.
In conclusion, I now have the S10 plus, selling the Mate 20 Pro. For MY needs (and only for that), Mate 20 Pro is the better phone. But I get bored from time to time, so here I am )
Cheers and good luck!

Thanks, where can I find your point by point answer? Searched the forum (of course), but without success.
Yes, I know about the other "issues" as I still have the S10+. Fingerprint reader is ok for me, and notification LED not that important for me. As I said I am very satisfied with the S10 +. Apart from the fact that my pre-order at the corresponding starting price was a flop I now also consider the Huawei flagship. Hence my interest explicitly in the above points.
Thanks again
EDIT: sorry, just saw your answers in your quote above - my fault

Hey man no worries, glad we share the same opinion to some point. Anyway, I am sure P30 pro will still have a better camera, cause once they started an algorithm, they will most probably stick to it. As for Samsung, the notifications stuff is driving me nuts, as it is the only manufacturer to do that and dismiss all/clear all BS. Other than that goodlooking and great phone , the S10 plus.

Once again your answers reflected, I would like to thank you for your effort. They confirm my assumptions.
On the battery life: I had never really problems and that of the S10 + is more than sufficient.
To the camera: this is really very important to me, but not at the expense of the overall package. I do not understand the good picture quality of the Huawei´s completely. How can it be so good with such a high-resolution sensor? I usually shoot with a Nikon D850, similar pixel count, but correspondingly large full-frame sensor. And apart from that, no smartphone lens can put that resolution on a sheet of paper. The Huawei P30 will have a 10x optical zoom. That's nice, but it also means that light has to pass through more lenses. All the more surprising how Huawei software succeeds in getting such good results.
The overall package: if there scores the S10 +, then the decision should be clear to me. I'll wait for the 26th of May and the following reviews; but for the first time I'm really impressed with Samsung's operating system. By that I mean the functionality as a whole, the display and sound quality. The latter is even with Bluetooth headphones better than anything I've ever known (as I said, except for viper4android).
Let's wait and see. What a pity that I do not have the opportunity to take a Huawei in my own hands.
Correct, not much else to add. As for the lenses, I dont understand the whole process, and the whole aperture stuff (I do, but not in detail), but I see the final result, which is great. And yes, that is what excited me too, cause last year was boring from the Samsung perspective...this series of new phones, they did it! And I ve been using the Galaxy series since S1. So...we ll see what happens on 26Mar and after . Take care!
I would wait and see for the p30pro.
I use both at the moment. Honestly aside from the crazy Samsung display I'm kind of disappointed...
Almost the same camera setup as s9+ and note9.
8nm (exynose) Vs 7nm on the SD and m20p version.
Battery is not really stable (I've had mine since the 8th: you can see various reports on this here on XDA and Reddit (apparently the SD doesn't have that much issues).
Overall a good package, honestly. But I also think they could of done better...and still the same 15w charger!! Coming from a 6T and M20p....it's crazy they don't have more powerful chargers today!
Huawei is really innovating now (taking risks), Sammy is securing their position and oneplus is growing fast and being very open minded. Three different approaches.
Root...apparently there are issues with the new rooting procedure on exynos. But I guess we'll have to wait on JohnWu. Forget that on Huawei's side...getting root is hell, even bootloader unlocked. Only some can do it, but you need to go the funkyhuawei path.
Honestly, I don't need root anymore, phones are mostly optimized, not like in the past. And endurance is better every year. It takes me around 1h30 configure/reload all.my apps on a new phone.
Camera...hmm, that was my only weak point on the 6T, tried all the versions of the gcam, the sensor was to small, lenses not good...so even if you put a Porsche engine in a fiat500, it's a fiat500.
Huawei cameras you or love them or hate them. BUT apparently Huawei is coming out with the new Sony sensor, ToF, 10x optical, and most probably some other surprises...I just hoped OEMs would understand how important is a monochrome lense for all that it could bring in. Till today portraits are better on the p20pro than the m20pro...but that's my opinion, except of course the pixel 3XL. Which for me must have a voodoo magic camera processing system.
Notifications, i was really pissed with the m20p...but at least it has a led (lol). There were bugs here in there..but Voilà, no perfect phones exist. Annoyed to double tap on my screen on the S10+ to see my notifications (I don't use AOD, 1% battery/hour).
Battery, CPU. I've realised that a phone today needs to learn from you (your habits, app usage, etc..) and here the Kirin 980 & pie is a monster setup...it really does something in the back ground. Not sure about the S10+ yet...I need to give it time. But battery, till.today nothing gets close to me m20p.
The new display on the p30p is reported to be a Samsung...so it might be great. Let's see.. 4 days to go.
In the meantime check this out, people are saying it was done on the p30p (no idea how long they took.on post processing, but still..impressive!)
No idea why the YouTube link isn't working...
Just in short summary: after Huawei Honor 7 and P10 I will never everly ever go back to Huawei absolutely ever again. Not in this lifetime anyway...

I have Android Pie on my S8+ and notifications don't behave like that. If i clear a new message notifaction I still have app icon badges that show me the number of messages I have not read.

Could I ask you what was wrong with Huawei (and which model) in your opinion?
The P30 pro comes in at 999 euro with a year old SoC, widely hated skin, a second class Samsung 1080p display(no excuse for the price).
Even ignoring the fact that the S10+ is a superior all-round package (even more with the 10% student discount) I think Huawei is shooting itself in the foot by trying to jump on the ultra flagship pricing train, their reputation has been thanks to the good value they offered, which is gone.
I spent a day comparing my phone with a relative's mate 20 pro, the latter is a very ambitious device but it falls short in every category except face recognition, which I don't use and has been proven to be a flawed protocol on even the most secured devices.
If you check my guide you can see my 15h SoT result and how it can be achieved, the p20 pro has a theoretically bigger(100mah) battery yet it gets nowhere close due to the uncompetitive SoC and software.
Huawei doesn't and never will allow unlocked bootloaders, I wouldn't recommend their services even if they offered the best choices, they're still far from that and their anti-consumer behaviour needs to be heavily punished.

I only had bad experience with Huawei Honor 7 and P10. Not only did the hardware made my life into misery, but also the software (read EMUI). Honor 7 was an unfinished phone as it was beta, and P10s hardware went first crap (the battery bulked over time in my pocket so bad that you could see the battery cells because of the gap). So the Swedish repaircompany fixed it by replacing with new screen and battery but screwed up the dualcamera so it takes blurry pics which means shipping to service one extra time.
This Samsung, which is my first Samsung phone, is probably the best phone so far I ever had. I only can remember one phone that was this good (out of all phones I've had), and that was iPhone 5s. Had also Nexus 4 but here in Europe Google was cheap with only 16 GB ROM instead of 32. Shame...
Also, I'm still waiting for Android Pie for my Huawei P10 which will probably never come. And it doesn't matter since the EMUI would still get crap. And I'm questioning the Chinese company privacy for us users especially for that little storm last year. Not saying they are spying but I don't trust them on where my personal data will end up: in the hands of the company or their government.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience and that you are projecting so much negativity...everyone has their opinion. But just my 2cents : Huawei since the p10 or H7 have gone a long way. Thus the reason that they are the second biggest selling phone company today.. and heading up quickly to bite on Samsung in the next 2 years. Huawei's P20P, M20P & Kirin 980 have been hailed for innovation, build quality and picture quality. Now, if i could have Oxygen OS on a Huawei, that would be a dream come true.
Last point : the ones that had "confirmed" spying issues last year was not Huawei but Oneplus (i company that i really like NDLR). Also, just "FYI", Samsung sells Snapdragon phones right? Only in the US. Exynos in the rest (except China). Oneplus, also a chinese company, who also should abide by the so called chinese law : "that companies need to help the government if needed". Are in the USA... ask yourself this : "oneplus + snapdragon = US, Huawei + Kirin = not US". Why? And hum, i think that there is a kind of "Trade War" happening right now, right? When you want to hurt a country : hit it's economy, who's one of the biggest company in China? Huawei. And this week Huawei filled for a lawsuit against the US government, that their restrictions are non "constitutional".
Any how, sorry i hijacked your thread to clarify some things about this "China is spying on us" BS. All government are spying on everyone.
Now let's see this p30p, there are gonna be haters and lovers... like every brand.
Peace out.

Essentially, I agree with you. However, I think that a lot has happened since the P10. Anyway, I agree that from a price point of view, Huawei's move is more than brave, even though I think you already get what you pay for. After all, with the P30 pro seems to come a sonos speaker for free (pre-order) .. if you need it. Yes, I know, this argument is rather weak ..

I know that many do espionage. Where do you think your fingerprints have been storaged since the iPhone 5s and up? Not at Foxconn or China... But I rather give my fingerprints to US and South Korea than China - if I need to choose.
Well, I have tasted two Huawei-models, also P9. P20 just a bit, not bad phone but the camera wasn't captured natural photos. Seemed like they were afteredited with layers automatically which they are (if you read some reviews). If I want to edit photos I refuse that the phone edit it FOR me. And some photos don't need to be edited at all because you will ruin them.
My P10 was an OK phone, but comparing with this Samsung it's like having a phone out of completely different galaxy. And one more thing to clarify: I don't hate Huawei, but I don't like shady business no matter what company.

Thank you for the link again.
As the question arises, when the first movies are made with the Pro XX - as once with the Canon 5D Mark II (or III?). Anyway, this quality goes beyond my mind and what I learned in physics lessons decades ago - but really good video! Thx!

Huawei has a history of lying about video footages or photos they made their brand ambassadors advertise, we as users have absolutely no reason to trust anything, they kept using DSLR content and splashing "taken with Huawei" on it, unacceptable.
The video in the link is just an example of reverse advertising, I expect the upcoming Huawei P30 pro's camera to be criticized in every single comparison that isn't sponsored, as it happened every time.

Ok, understood. These are the reasons, why I´m (still) skeptical with the brand Huawei.
And yes, I checked your guide, just haven´t hit the thanks bottom yet .

I just want premium, and now that also Huawei-phones costs almost as same amount as Samsung's, I would be silly if I picked Huawei imo. Surely have Huawei evolved since the P10 but I simply can't live with the EMUI anymore. And bringing Nova-launcher won't make me 100% satisfied either...
I really love new SGS10+ even with Exynos-chip that entire world have due to licensing issue (read 1993 contract between Sammy and Qualcy). Can say it works well, not bad att all. Fast too. [emoji6]

My previous phone is mate 20 battery life is perfect like 8 hours sot and not warm now I have s10 plus us version screen time only 6 hours and phone feel very warm
Huawei Emui is awful. They make the bootloader unlockable. Screen not as good with issues

Would you buy again?

Hey guys,
I am seriously tempted by the one plus 8 pro but all the screen issues scare me. Would you guys but it again given your time over our would you avoid it? I am also looking at the oppo find X2 pro but I don't know much about oppo and how good they are at updating their phones
Me, along with 3 friends, got the BA version at release. None of us have the screen issue though. Even if I would have had it, and RMA:d the phone, I would do it again. the phone is too amazing to miss out on! I am rooted however, and none of my friends root their devices. I run Omega kernel and have 0 issues, but all of my 3 friends get the "overheated" message several times a day (I haven't gotten it even once). I would draw the conclusion - If you root and are willing to use custom kernels, go for it! If you want to keep stock, you might aswell want to check for alternatives.
Thanks for that. I have rooted with past phones but Google pay is important to me so haven't been able to root anymore. Saw a few posts in standard 8 forum complaining about NFC payments not working properly. Anyone else seen that?
Difficult question It is a great device with nearly all features I like in a top smartphone, especially the addition of wireless charging suits me fine.
My major gripe is actually with the size of the device, while its thin it feels very large (both in width and height) and I'm not sure I like it for an everyday-carry device.
Plus I sorely feel a lack of communication from OP with regard to some of the initial issues and their status when it comes to OOS - screen, fingerprint....
Presently I am very torn between the OP8Pro and a Mi 10 Pro - both great in their own way, its quite possible the form factor and size will lean towards the Xiaomi in the end.....
To answer directly: no, I most probably wouldn't buy such a large device again..... Would I buy the 8 Pro again, aside from its size but rather its features: yes, anytime !

I use GPay several times a day. All you need to do is enable Magisk Hide and it's all good. If someone has other issues with it, it's probably not root/Magisk-related but something else they tinkered with... My assumption.
On my 6T some public betas weren't CTS verified, thos times I had to use the MagiskHide Props Config module to get it working, but no such issues on 8Pro. But I assume, if they start releaseing betas, this would be the solution once again.
I'd buy again.
Coming from 4 google devices in a row. 6P, 2xl, 3xl and 4xl.
I enjoyed them all and there is definitely something about getting all that google offers first but the 8 pro is far and away a better phone and phone experience.
And, so far, updates have come right on the heels of when google updates their line of phones so that's a great thing so far.
And, as someone said above, you can still have google pay while being rooted.
Also, I've had zero screen issues but there is something going on with wifi that I can't quite put my finger on.
Big yes. the phone is the best of the best and the screen day after day all the green tint and black crush gone.

In a heratbeat! IMO, this is one of the best Android devices to come down the pike in a long time.
Thanks for the replies guys. I have gone ahead and ordered one from Amazon, arrives tomorrow. Chose Amazon as they don't question any returns
Short answer - no.
Longer answer - I've had one for a few days and I've already decided to either return it or sell it on Swappa. My main gripe is the camera. I had seen so many reviews saying Oneplus had finally nailed the camera so I decided to give it a try. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but my camera experience has been hot garbage. Every time I try taking a picture, no matter what the lighting conditions are or the camera mode I'm in, the pictures come out looking awful. I'll tap the shutter button, get the haptic feedback, and then the camera will just hang for a full second before it finally takes the picture. If I'm taking a picture of a still object, in bright lighting, and I make an extra effort to hold my hands as still as possible while all that goes on, then the end result will be about 60% as good as what I can get by just quickly pointing and shooting with my Pixel 4 XL. If the situation is anything less than that absolute ideal, the end result is a blurry smeary overexposed mess.
Before anyone asks, I am updated to the most recent software, I've tried rebooting the phone, doing a factory reset, shooting in all the different camera modes, and adjusting every camera setting there is - none of it has made the quality anything better than mediocre at best to lousy in general.
Yes, this is my daily driver and no looking back! Cheers
I'd do it again. I still go back and forth with my Note 10+ and S20 Ultra, but this is definitely a more bloat free and smoother experience overall. I don't have the green tint issue or the horrible grey's when the screen is super dim but I do have that trailing shadow line that runs next to the camera. But I hardly notice that so no big deal.

Your description sounds as if something is defective with the camera, at least it doesn't fit at all to my experience with the 8 Pro camera ! I did a lot of comparisons between the 8 Pro, an P40 Pro and a Mi 10 Pro - with the main camera all of the three are very comparable, with slight advantages to one or the other in some scenarios....
Now images are always subjective in interpretation, but IMHO the 8 Pro is definitely capable of taking very nice shots in all situations and that without much fiddling ....
I'm not sure I would buy it again, mainly because of the price.
The OP8 Pro is a fantastic device but 900 euros is a lot of money.
OnePlus is gonna release in July a device which is way more affordable, I think it's gonna be a better buy (even if it lacks features)
Yeah I would buy again. I have no blind loyalty to any brand but when I apply my "filters" to the huge list of current phones on the market, only this one remained. When I shop for a phone, I look for the right balance of top specs & mod friendliness, features, parts and price. This time around, the balance wasn't quite as good (price/wireless charging/IP68 rating) and a few other, cheaper phones came close to being the top choice for me.

Most people don't have this issue, problems tend to make more noise than benefits.
The benefits I can assure you completely outweigh the bad on a huge scale..
I have zero issues, I've also never had any issues ever reported, on any of my devices since the G1.
The chances of having these reported problems whilst possible remains extremely small..
Seeing one person getting a couple of dodgy devices in a row does not mean everyone else's devices are the same.
My advice, by it from somewhere where they have a quick swap out capability. A shop, a reputable reseller.
So the timeout if your get that unlucky will be minimal.
You'll have this same problem with any of the other devices you ever decide to buy
No, because it is not a big upgrade or difference from my op7p...
Got my one plus 8 pro today. Screen is lovely. Not seen any issues with it but I haven't gone looking as I am using it like a phone and not at minimum brightness etc. But disappointed to see WiFi calling doesn't work on Vodafone UK, just as well I get great signal anyway
I probably would buy again but the no dual-sim is annoying me more as time passes.
How do you mean, no dual SIM?

Photochrome in2023 model

I have the 2023 version running 10.5.11.IN11AA and I have the photochrome tab but when I switch to it I just get the regular camera view (no effect at all), screenshot included.
From what I gathered, the IN2023 model should still have the photochrome filter, and in any case the fact that it's there but does nothing seems weird to me.
ideas?
EDIT: nvm, it's just so weak now that I haven't noticed that it does anything. Shame.
Oneplus just released a patch with the latest update disabling the camera responsible for the filter because it had the potential to see through certain fabrics and plastics.

those days are gone , you better sell your phone like im doing and buy huawei or samsung ultra or wait for note 20
Stop talk about what you don't know, oneplus has not disabled the sensor. Now it use the 48mp camera together with the 5mp camera to capture the colors and create the filter

The 48MP + filter combination is useless, I couldn't care less about the colors, I wanted to just check how the "xray" camera looks like. That said, I'm not going to sell the phone just because they disabled a camera. I still think it is the best Android phone right now, and if you bought it just for a 5MP filter camera you should reconsider your consumer choices.
The photo filter works. Needs more light. So basically works only outside. Details it takes now is lot better than 5mp camera before it, buy requires lot light since sensivity is on high range. And sell the phone just coz some filter is not working and downgrade to other android phone by paying more, that's just st....

Then sell it and stop moaning!! Do us all a favour. If you didn't research it then that's your fault.
Also if it's not the most developed phone at this time? Amongst flagships, please elaborate with all your wisdom what is??
Just got the dreaded update to 10.
Simply disregarded it then took to Twitter to tear OnePlus a new bum hole.
Poor judgement and poor decisions by OnePlus.
I'll not be taking it until they sort their heads up out
I am disappointed.
Does anyone know how to get it back on the latest firmware?
