Note 7 still desireable - Verizon Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I was at a Christmas party over the weekend. The guy next to me pulled out a new S7. I asked him how he liked it. He said he's an Android guy...hates Apple. *fist bumps*.
"But I'm a Note Guy. I had the Note 1, 2, 3, 4...skipped the crappy 5. When I went to try to buy the 7 they told me I couldn't buy it. I really wanted that phone."
I smiled cooley. slowly pulled my N7 out of my pocket and laid it on the table. His eyes lit up "HOW?!?!"
I told him I pre-ordered it...described the fact that it's the best Android phone ever created...and still is by far.
We spent the next 30 minutes talking about how awesome the Note world is. It was fun.

Jump ahead several months to a time when Android N is running on most new devices and apps are being updated to work with the updated OS. Now the N7 which is no longer being updated is having issues with updated apps not working properly. Even if the phone was a perfect device, it no longer will be without software updates.

Apps still work with Ice Cream...it'll be fine....as long as Verizon doesn't shut it down from the network

Does your N1 sell itself

Tell us your story! How many people have seen your N1 and what was their reaction? Did they buy?
In my experience most people ask "What the F*** is that" and I just hand them the phone and tell them its the Google phone and show off some exclusive capability. About 7 people that I know have purchased the phone because they saw mine. Any similar stories?
A few co-workers flipped their iphones in favour of an n1...all it took was handing them the phone and showing them the sdk
Outside of work, a few friends made the switch from Sprint (Pre) to TMO (n1), random strangers who saw my phone sitting on a table while having a meal were quite impressed...
I can only imagine what the adoption rate would have been if Google actually marketed this device. Perhaps if they even bothered to make mention that it was available for ATT 3G, or is coming to VZW. Sometimes Google confuses me....
Everyone that saw my N1 ran out and bought a Droid for 99 bucks. <g>

you...you are fired!
My stupid friends only enjoy the Clayton Bigsby sound board and the Boobs, Butts, and Babes app. I try to show off the rest, but they are iphone dilshes and just say "mahhh i want those apps too."
Of course I always complain that I cant play Words With Friends with them.
My boss saw my N1 and bought it the day after. Some of my friends were impressed: "Wow, you've got a Nexus One".
I worked at MWC 2010 here in Barcelona and had the chance to get one. Nobody has it yet here in Spain and everyone's really impressed with stuff I show them.
I personally love the phone, I love Android (first Android phone), and want to start developing ASAP!
My N1 completely sells itself.
I think I installed a bad APK. It keeps listing itself on eBay...
lmfao ^^
haha
everybody who noticed my phone was relatively impressed. only thing that kept them back was the 1000's of apps that weren't on their iPhone but were sitll available just incase.
I got a story to tell.
Went to an Apple store the other day and pretended interest in the iPhone. Asked the first salesperson if it can multi-task yet and how fast its processor is. He got confused and asked if I meant multi-touch (...yeah) and had to google up "iphone processor" before giving up and directing me to their "iPhone expert," whom I proceeded to grill about the iPad and iPhone (can they multi-task? Play Flash in browser? Oh. No?) and they admitted that the iPad is nothing more than a giant iTouch--their words, not mine!
So I further went on to ask them about the next-gen iPhone; the "expert" asked if I already got one and I said no, then showed them my Nexus. He was astonished at how fast, smooth, pretty, and powerful it is--I showed him how many processes were running, some live wallpapers, the pinch-to-leap thing from Desire's Sense, and in the end he said that Apple likes to sit on crucial features and save them for later releases so as to charge people more.
There you go, folks. Straight from the horse's mouth.

I need your help...

(Sorry in advance for the long post)
First off, let me say that I am a full-on Android fanboy.
After many years, frustrated by WM phones, I ditched Microsoft and picked up a Droid on launch day and have never looked back!
I have been on line, literally, every day since Nov 6th 2009, pouring over all of the android forums, blogs and reviews.
I have watched the evolution of android and have been so excited with every new update, discovery and app. I still rock the OG Droid because I have yet to see anything out there tempting enough for me to want to ditch it (o.k., maybe the Bionic but we'll have to wait and see!) but because it is also the most developer friendly friendly device anyone has released (feel free to correct me).
I love the open nature of Android, I love the quirkiness and the feeling of being part of helping to build this fledgling into a giant.
I rooted my phone long ago and have tried many, many roms, kernels and themes and I have loved all of it! (I am a bit worried that at the final reckoning I will be held accountable for the 2 1/2 years of my life I wasted dicking with my phones.)
Anyways, that's my history, now my dilemma.
Since the introduction of the first ipad, I never quite "got it". It seemed cool and everything but I couldn't see a reason, or a need it would fill, in my life. My laptop recently died and I do miss sitting on the couch surfing, working, emailing etc. So then I began to see the introduction of Android tablets and, although intrigued, I still found myself not really coveting them.
Flash forward to last Friday. I get a call from my wife who says she's at Costco and do I want anything, as a joke, I said "Yeah, how about picking me up one of those Motorola Xooms. She did.
I have spent the last week, with a browser full of Xoom related tabs, installing apps, trying everything out and I've been having a ball! (I haven't rooted yet because I don't want any hassles when the OTA's rain down from the heavens!)
Although I really like my Xoom and I can't wait to see where this all goes, I can't help but think that I could return it to Costco and pick up a pretty nice laptop with gigs of ram, a huge hard drive and the ability to do anything I wanted.
Today, my Droid can do more than my Xoom can.
I know this will change but even when all of the upgrades are complete, it will still be an Android phone on steroids. (flame suit on).
So I ask you for your opinions, input and thoughts.
I have 90 days to decide.
Thanks in advance for your time.
You, sir, have an awesome wife!
The device capabilities are there to do everything you want and more, however the success of the device and the platform large hinges on the developers. As we have seen with the android phone sphere, (lame quote time) "If you build it, they will come" or at least that is what motorola, samsung, lg, htc...etc are betting on. Honestly its hard to say if in 90 days if you will see delivered what everyone expects of an android tablet from the apps standpoint. There would be no shame in returning and waiting for the development of the android tablet scene if you aren't willing to wait. I can say I am definitely invested in for the long haul and see a bright future ahead.

Hi from a noob!!!!

Just thought i'd say hi, i'm an Android virgin just swapping from an Iphone that bored me......ordered my Note on saturday so expecting in 3 to 5 days according to Phones4u!!!
Really like the site already so much information, hoping that the Note can live up to my expectations and reading some of the comments on here it will!!
hahaha
Welcome
Goodbye boredom
Welcome.
An excellent reason to switch.
Why hang with turkeys when you can fly with eagles.
Hopefully you won't become a flash junkie and spend every night dowloading and installing new and better roms.
(like I did)
becoz size is matter ! lol
Just got the note delivered 2-3 hours ago. My first Android phone, was using SE P990 and Xperia X1 the last 3-4 years.
I fill completely lost havent even played with android before.
I will be asking noob questions in this thread
Mate you lucky you got yours, i have now been told by phones4u that orange won't honour the upgrade package they offered me so i am back to square one trying to get my note!!!
Good news, Orange are allowing the upgrade so i get my Note tomorrow, can't wait to have a look and explore the beast........
Welcome my brother.
i was like you too once i had every iphones/ ipads model. my first android device was the galaxy tab 7'' and after that i never look back at another iphone again, i don't think i will ever again. i still have 3 ipads that my kids play with, can't wait to get the note.
You won't be disappointed. Had my note just over a week and it keeps getting better. Just be warned once your eyes adjust to the big screen. Every other phone looks really small lol
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
There's much more you can do with bigger screen. Even if you crank the hardware to 3GHz quad core and 32GB of RAM, there's so much you can do on small screen. It's like installing a V6 sports engine on a city car and expect it to be able to run stable at 200 mph
Recieved my note today and i have to say I LOVE IT!!!
The screen is great and its not to big to hold no way not even in calls, i have experienced zero lag and the battery is great!
i can't put it down and don't get me started on android, i love it really do so if your thinking about getting it don't just get it...........FANTASTIC PHABLET!!!

Samsung Galaxy Note user from Malaysia
Hi there too, I'm also new in using Samsung product. Been using iPhone 4 for the pass year then a month ago using the Samsung Galaxy S2 traded it with iPhone 4. But it didn't last longer cause now I'm letting go of my Samsung Galaxy S2 and got myself the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note!
Nice to meet you guys here and hope to learn few things while I'm here.

[Q] Have I missed out on the Nexus 4 bandwagon?

Since Android was released, I've been a huge fan and my first Android phone was the HTC G1. All my phones since then have been Android with my current one being the Samsung Galaxy S2. While they have all been great, I have been really disappointed with not having timely Android OS updates. Some updates were skipped while others were delayed to the point that they were no longer the latest version by the time they were released. I then decided that my next phone would be a Nexus device. I was tempted by the Samsung Galaxy S3 when it came out by decided to hold out for the rumoured Nexus 4.
Everything I read about the N4 was looking promising but I'm not one to be an early adopter so when the N4 came out, I decided not to order it and wait for the early adopters to report any issues and make my decision based on that. When the 2nd wave of N4s came out, it was still too early as many people still had not gotten the N4 from the first wave so I decided to hold off yet again. I knew I'd be waiting until after Xmas for when I would likely be able to place my order.
Since early January, I have read a lot of user comments and I feel there is nothing being reported that has put me off. I am now in a position where I would be happy to purchase the N4 if/when it comes back on sale in the UK. I now hear rumours that this may not happen until mid-February. This would be around 3 months after it's initial release which is much longer than I hoped to wait for. I am really confused which way to go on this.
Reasons to skip the N4:
1. Being 3 months in probably means we're about 9 months away from the "Nexus 5". With JB update starting to roll out to the SGS2, I could quite possibly hold off until the N5. Also, there's no guarantee that the N4 supply won't be delayed further.
2. The flaky supply issues could indicate that LG accessories, spares and repairs could be affected as well. Even if available, they may charge a disproportional amount compared to the phone price.
3. I'm intrigued by the rumours of the Motorola X phone.
Reasons to buy the N4:
1. The N4 is still a great phone even if I only get my hands on it in late Feb. I don't use the phone for gaming so the spec of the phone could easily last me 2 years (or whenever I get tempted by another phone).
2. Google and LG have really shaken the market by bringing this phone at such a low price point. I'm hoping it will lead the way for other manufacturers that top end phones shouldn't be such a huge price. Buying the N4 shows my consumer support for this thinking. As a consumer, wouldn't we all love cheaper (top end) phones.
Any thoughts, suggestions?
Buy. It.

The only thing REALLY bugging me about the N4 is that google hasn't restocked in over a month.
You said the thing that bothers you most is lack of timely updates. Buy it and be happy.
When the n5 comes out you can sell the n4 with minimal loss. Go for it.

I don't really understand this part, where you basically say "I've waited 3 months for the N4, I'd better wait 9 more to the N5".
You waited until after Christmas before deciding to place the order, so you've actually waited 1 month more than expected as of today. I think that's not that big deal.
In either case you're gonna wait, so why wait more?
Following your line of thought, you should wait 2 months after the N5 launch (if you want to wait for the opinion of the early adopters as you did for the N4) before buying it. This'll make you wait roughly a year from now.
Are you sure the N5 launch will be as smooth as butter? What if the N5 is another really well-built and cheap device... and you have just the whole world waiting to lay their hands on it?
Who says you'll be able to get the Nexus 5 at launch?
To sum it up: waiting for the new Nexus device is not worth the time. The Nexus 4 is an awesome device, buy it (sic)!
And if the Nexus 5 will prove being that much better smartphone, you'll still be able to sell the N4 at a great price and buy the N5 without a hitch.
And if the declarations of LG France are truthful, you'll probably have to wait just one more month before unwrapping your brand new LGE Nexus 4
If you need a new phone get one. Thats the way I roll. I'll use this phone until its old and busted, doesn't hold a charge, Or I crack the screen.
DO you NEED a new phone? Can you afford 350 in throw away cash?
Those are the only two things I can see stopping someone from buying anything.

I was calculating the 3 months wait based upon when I reckon the phone will come back in stock in UK and the earliest I'd get the phone in my hands. However, I do accept your point that if the N5 came out then I wouldn't get it at launch and would be waiting a month or two like I normally do. I guess the frustration of waiting for it to come back in stock made me mis-calculate the timings

I don't "Need" a new phone but I do "really really really want" one. I'm assuming you're talking about $350? In the UK the 16GB is only priced £280 (plus a little for postage). I can definitely afford this amount for the phone.
Ok, thanks for all the comments. My mind is made up, I'm getting the N4 as soon as it comes back in stock in the Play Store. Hopefully the Google Wireless charger will have been launched by then as well so I can have phone + accessories from day 1.
I managed to place my order bang on 3pm went it came back in stock in UK on Wednesday. It's already been delivered at home so I'll get a chance to play with it when I get back. Less than 43 hours from placing order to being delivered is pretty good. Looks like Google has definitely gotten their act together. I also see that they are still in stock showing 1 to 2 weeks shipping (which is what it said when I placed my order) so it's all looking very positive.
Ignore this, you've already got it lol
Enjoy
Hahah this thread is a fail/tool/troll nothing is bandwagon about the nexus 4, without forums you wouldn't have known about it..and BTW the gs3/note 2 are bandwagon devices...so what if its been out for 3 months its only been available 3 times since release...not even iPhone or any device has sold like that

There's nothing negative about the term bandwagon (definition: joining a growing movement in support of someone or something). In my eyes it is a bandwagon as more and more people are starting to realise the benefit of a Pure Google Experience device.

Comparing based on the number of times it has sold out is pointless unless you factor in the number of units available each time. If they released it in smaller batches then I'm sure they would have more than 3 "sell outs".
The content of your post is both pointless and unhelpful as it is but the fact that you wrote it after I already posted that I've purchased the device AND taken delivery takes it to a whole new level. *slow clap*

Motorola is still looking for a product manager for the X-Phone, so it isn't THAT close, and it's biggest advantage over the N4 will be probably be a 1080p screen, which is nigh-moot on a phone. It will probably have LTE variants, too.
Buy it.

[Q] New to GS4 and introduction

OK I admit I'm leary I dropped my phone Tuesday and totally shattered (still in tact) my screen and immediately put a protector on to keep the glass splintering from happening. Bummed but oh well Sams Club is having a .96c cent GS4 pre black sale on Sunday night so it seems I'll be leaving GS3 behind and getting a GS4 I would rather wait until after first of year to see what comes but I need to take advantage of the sale.
I have only had this GS3 2 months after bricking 3 E4GT's and getting this because 4th one power button broke, replacement being on BO.
Coverage here in OKC for sprint is so so and gets better as time goes by so I'm always on WiFi so otherwise everything seems to work the same. Being on the E4GT for past almost 2 years all the young tech guys I relied on do not know anything about the GS3 or GS4 so as a 48yr gray haired guy I'm learning as I go.
I really would like a Note3 or the rumored GS5 when I went to sprint to get the screen cover the tech's said they have really been liking the LG L2 but not having a removable battery would take me back to my iphone days and I hated the control that apple had over me. Sprint tech guys always like seeing the newest things on my phone but when it comes to roms and rooting they are a lost cause.
My wife needs a new phone the has the galaxy s w/slider keyboard, I originally got my E4GT from amazon .01 cent Black Friday sale 2 years ago and it is best that both she and I stay on same contract terms.
Question: Anyone have suggestion of a S4 rom?
Been running [ROM][4.4][Beta][UNOFFICIAL][Updated 11/21/13]Cyanogemod 11 for D2SPR with total 4.4 kitkat and using PA Gapps.
Prior Ran The Collective 4.3.1 w/PA Gapps.
I generally run anything and every apk that will flash, not afraid to test things, nito and download the link.
My kids and most of family are all iOS fans and always stock so I'm the crazy droid spilunker.
Any suggestions or recommendation's about ROMs would be appreciated.
I'll figure theming as I go. I'm just a little bummed but know once I get the phone on Sunday night that I'll just find a new forum and thread to join.
For your question. That cannot really be answered by someone else. Look through the OG Dev and regular dev sections. To see all of the Roms available and flash any that catch your attention. Then from their choose which one you want to stick with.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
See above, it is best you also break out questions so that when "best rom" answer create arguments, moderators do not have to shut down entire threads as "best rom" stuff is generally not allowed.
