A weird problem - Lenovo Vibe K4 Note Questions & Answers

So my phone has this problem where in the settings it shows that over half the ram is free but when I see recent apps and clear them it's showing much less ram available
I dunno if it is it... Or some of my phones memory isn't being used somehow or the device doesn't recognize it.
My phone is getting slower because of this.
How do I free up most of the ram and get rid of third party apps running in the bg..
Thanks.

Lack of available memory

I have had my X10 for about 2 weeks now and im finding that, even though i havent got many apps on the phone, advanced task killer is reporting only 30-40mb of memory available. Does anyone know why this is happening? When i first got the phone it was reporting 100+mb memory for about a week.
Android = Linux
Linux = http://www.linuxhowtos.org/System/Linux%20Memory%20Management.htm
The reason Linux uses so much memory for disk cache is because the RAM is wasted if it isn't used. Keeping the cache means that if something needs the same data again, there's a good chance it will still be in the cache in memory. Fetching the information from there is around 1,000 times quicker than getting it from the hard disk.

Do you use the advanced view of advanced task killer?
Maybe there are several system tasks running, that eat lots of memory.
i've found that since changing to RIFA016, I have slightly less available memory. (around 30MB if I remember right)
@VMaxxor: I get that i uses some of the RAM for disk caching but i had the same number of apps one week ago and i had 110ish MB of available memory. i dont how it could have cached more things.
@McKebapp: I did just enable the advanced view. the system process seem to be taking up about 100mb of memory but i hav no idea where the other 70ish mb is going.
@Niceties: What is RIFA0106?
R1FA016 is the latest build version available at the moment (correct me if I'm wrong here!)
You might have to debrand your phone to get it! (theres a thread on how to do this in this forum)
As mentioned earlier, Linux is very good at memory management and works on the principle that if memory is there and not being used for anything then it might as well fill it up with something. When you start a new app the Linux kernel organises the memory chunk it needs.
I don't use task killers, they don't really offer any benefits in a Linux based system, unlike Windows which has always been abysmal in doing this.
(BTW - The HTC keyboard rocks !!! I typed all of this fast and with the minimum of errors and corrections)

I've also realized something strange.
After restarting the Phone, I've got around 154MBs of free Memory.
I use the Pro Version of the Advanced Task Killer, that flushs the phone Memory when one locks the screen.
4-5 Days later with normal use, the Phone begins to slow down.
Then, I've just 40MBs of free Memory but no task is open.
I guess this happenes by the Linux Memory Management cashaw mentioned earlyer.
But the Phone is slow as hell.
After restarting it again --> Voilá >150MBs and the Phone is back at normal speed...
problem
this same thing happens to me....turn the phone off and it shoots right back up to 150mb or similar but after awhile it returns to 40 with no apps running and is leaving the phone really slow.

i once saw 201 mb free memory....
but soon it reduces to 130-140.
it stays there for me for as long as 2-3 days..
i just set my app killer to be slightly more aggressive and it seems to have done the trick.... sticks around 190 available now!

Memory and Performance Query

I have one question again. Supposed i have a low phone memory due to so much application installed, will it affect my phone performance, coz i noticed that my phone lags with almost full apps installed in it, I wonder if low phone memory that affects the performance of my phone or bcoz of the running apps simultaneously. One thing after i uninstalled the apps from memory card it still has the folder left in it, is it safe if i remove it manually? Is that the cache? Where is the program files in the memory card where the application is so i can delete the uninstalled apps?
Thanks in advance. Lab2 guys.x0x0
having multiple apps running on your phone will slow it down because each app uses tge phones processor and RAM (random access memory) to function and at different times or circumstances they use different levels of both, leaving multiple apps running leaves tge phone without much memory to get through basic functions such as texting or playing music with ease, there is a simple, easy and free way to solve your first problem, go into your android market and look up "advanced task killer" download the free version and it will show you what is running and how much of your RAM is available and you can stop all the apps from running by just clicking "kill selected apps" and your phone will run alot smoother
as for your second issue, theres nothing to worry about, those folders just contain information the apps that you have previously installed, have downloaded, you can delete them without risk of any damage

so even tho my phone memory is full that doesnt affect the performance of my phone right. i only have 43mb left in my phone memory and its a big laggy to respond. Thanks much. x0x0
or instead using of Advance Task Killer, use Fast reboot to improve battery life. You'll be more enlighten if you visit this site [FIX] Drain Battery Fix for CyanogenMod.
You should worry about how much specific app uses your cpu not ram, less free ram = faster phone.
So try to determinate wich apps are using your cpu and kill tham.
Ignore this post if youre using eclair

Thank you guys for the sweet response. BTW it works i think the prob is my spb3d launcher that makes my phone lags.
Install System application and kill processes from there.

[Q] iconia tab amount of free ram is too little

i thought honeycomb tablets have 1 gb of ram ( ~770 in reality) so I thought I would be multitasking quite well. But my icona usually have about 200 ram free when I check it in a task switcher. I hear other people with other tablets have more than 500 mb free or at least near that amount. I rooted my tab and deleted some system apps that I don't use so that they dnt run in the background, but still my free ram is very low. Just to let you know, I have about 2 pages of apps in my app drawer with all the system apps such as gmail included. I don't think that's too many.
Will installing a custom rom fix this issue? Any help is appreciated!
---------- Post added at 11:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 PM ----------
and I would like to know also that installing a custom rom will make this tablet faster when switching between apps. It becomes very laggy sometimes doing that. Also right now on stock rom, I sometimes have even around only 150mb free ram. That's like 256mb ram on a smartphone..
Might want to use Advanced Task Killer By reChild
It was the only way to keep 300 ram free.. i would love 770 free
Lets see IF they ger windows 8 tablet edition on here.....How much would we have....1/16 of 1gb xD
yea the maximum I get is about 350mb after killing all the tasks. At the very first right after killing everything, its a little bit more than 400, then it keeps decreasing because of the closed services starting to run again. I once saw a video review of touchwiz on galaxy tab 10.1 and in the task manager, the free ram was over 600 out of 7xx. I couldn't believe it. Of course nothing was running, but when mine doesn't run any apps I have about 350mb. As I said I dont have that many apps..I didn't want to install custom roms and wanted to keep mine as stock as possible, but IF a custom rom will help will free ram issue, I am willijg to install one. Or if there is any other solution, please let me know! Oh and right now, I have a gmail and a web browser with 1 tab open, and I only have 264mb ram left. Please help if you know how to solve this issue..
Androids memory model causes it to cache very vigorously. The amount of RAM free is pretty much a worthless number because the system automatically relaxes the cache when the system is lower on memory, so programs don't get rejected RAM requests.

Yea I know about that, but because of that, multitasking is not really good on this tablet...I really need help on this issue..

There is no issue here, it's working just fine. If it didn't cache anything, then it'd take 30 seconds longer to load an app. As I said, if your system is low on ram, it'll automatically release as much as required to maintain the system from the cache. It's not causing any hit on multi-tasking, in fact, it helps keep the programs loaded and in cache so they switch faster.
I think you are saying that android system kills the app that's not as much used that's running in the background, so that the system cannot run out of memory. If you are really saying this, I already know it.. or maybe you are saying something different. What I'm saying is that BECAUSE the system kills background app to run a newly opened app if memory is too little, when I reopen that killed app, it has to reload again, and that affects effective multitasking. If it kills the browser, then all the tabs has to reload again, and it's so annoying..I have to have browser with 2 to 3 tabs, a dictionary, pdf reader, word document, and sometimes more, and I thought with 1GB RAM tablets, this would be easy to handle. If there are about 500 MB RAM free when nothing's open, then it could be possible to use all those apps without any one closing due to low memory, but I only have about 350MB free when nothing's open. I prefer not to install custom ROM, so I rooted with 'Iconia Root' app, then deleted some bloatwares, then unrooted again with the app. I thought this would help a lot, but it didn't..I probably didn't uninstall all the system apps that's useless. I don't know what AcerNidus (I'm not sure if this is correct) is, and some other acer apps that I should keep and I should delete..I would like to keep receiving updates, so I shouldn't delete something like system updater, but I don't know what else I should keep and delete. Thank's for trying to help me though. If anyone know, could you guys tell me what system apps should I delete, so that I will have the most free ram, run smoothly, keep getting acer updates, an not void warranty? Thank you so much!

possible ram problems, back to the past?

Hi
Anyone is having ram problems ?
On S2 I always have about 400 in use even with 400 apps installed the worse condition was about 200 free, but on note most of the time with less than 20 apps from market I am having about 160 free.
I fear the moment that I install all the old ones and see again the ram memory problems of first android phones and the need to get back the task killers, configure autostarts and all of that crap that I forgot with the S2.

Android is designed to fill as much memory as it can with apps, so free space generally isn't a concern at all. In fact, in theory you should only be concerned if you DO have a lot of memory free.
Tasker, however, did complain when it didn't think I had enough memory free.
- Frank
The problem it isn't that android use alls, the problem it is that if you don't have enough free all the device will be slower.
why?
Becuase you have all the ram used in programs and if a new one needs more memory, like for example the browser, he will try first to delete others data and then copy her data to the ram and this will make the devices slower. Then we will have another situation, when the program can't delete others data so he can't use the ram and we will get memory notification problems and a slower device that fails to run some programs.
And 150mb free it is very little, some browsers uses about 100/150mb or games or any other apps, so I think it is a situation to be really concerned about.
I've rooted and frozen several apps from Samsung including the TouchWiz Launcher, I've installed a bunch of apps and RAM can be up to ~430mb once I've killed all tasks. I use two task killers (Process Manager & Advanced Task Manager) and I have the latter auto-kill tasks in 30 minute intervals.
But if you've installed 400+ apps, I'd think that would somewhat affect the RAM count.

Apps closing in background (RAM)

Hello,
I bought a ZE553KL 32gb/3g RAM model. At first I didnt know that the 32gb model has only 3gb RAM.
Well, upon using the smartphone I noticed that apps wont stay in background (RAM) for too long, example:
- I open facebook app, browse a little, then I open another app, use for a little time and when I switch back to facebook it has to load again 95% of the time.
- If i open the Antutu Benchmark App and then go to home screen, and switch back it has to load again, I dont even need to open another app for antutu to be closed.
I also noticed that the system wont let me use more than 2.2GB approximately, which means the system shuts down apps when i have less than 900MB or 800MB free RAM which for me makes no sense. why would they make a 3GB RAM phone that doesnt let you use it? What a waste of RAM.
I tried disabling the option "Clean up in suspend" at the auto-start manager and even disabling the whole Mobile Manager App. but nothing helps. I rarely can switch from an app to another without it closing.
Have someone had the same experience? does it happen on the 4gb RAM model too? can I do something about it? it's really annoying me and i'm thinking about getting a refund on this purchase, very disappointing
Nevermind
I tried everything, even developer options, doesnt matter what I do, the android wont let me use more than 2,2GB and everytime I want to switch to another app it has to load again, every damn time.
I guess the only solution would be a custom ROM, does anyone know when we will get one?
