Honor 8 attempts for Guinness Record - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

A Smartphone attached to a balloon took to the skies on September-5 in an attempt to set a record for the highest live stream from such a device.
That smartphone is nothing but our Huawei Honor 8. The phone was attached to a weather balloon also carrying a camera and other equipment, and set off from the SSC Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden. The balloon was expected to burst at an altitude of 30,000 metres (98,425 ft) with the device then making its way back to down by parachute.
Peter Lundkvist of Huawei Technologies Sweden said the balloon reached 18,421 metres before bursting.
The basic concept was that no one has ever recorded a live stream from that height and thus, the Huawei Honor 8 would be different. There was also a phone charger (to constantly charge the Huawei Honor 8), a GoPro camera and equipment to regulate the temperature and keep the battery safe sent 30kms into the air. The Huawei Honor 8 was attached with a parachute which would help it land. There was a geographic fence created to cut the balloon with a pyrotechnic cutter if the phone came too close to the ground or if there was any issue with the experiment. The balloon was expected to land after 2 and half hours post which it would be tracked by GPS and picked up by a helicopter.
The only real challenge was the maintaining of constant temperature as the temperatures 30kms above could reach -50 degrees and cuase the phone batteries to burst. Thus, the entire operation was carried out using batteries which were space certified and designed for use in vacuum. The batteries used are generally used on SSCs rocket and balloon missions. Though the balloon was expected to reach a height of 30,000 meters, it burst at 18,421 metres. However, it is still the first time that a live-streaming event has been captured using a phone at this altitude and thus, Huawei folks are confident that the Guinness World Records will consider it as a feat.
Peter Lundkvist, marketing manager for Huawei Device Sweden said, “We wanted to do something extraordinary when launching Honor 8. So why not be the ones to do the highest smartphone livestream ever? Honor as a brand stands for braveness and authenticity. What represents these two elements better than a journey towards space?
Hopefully, Guinness (World Records) will accept this as a world record in highest smartphone live streaming.

Possibly real photo of the Galaxy S3's final design!?

Oh my god, its BEAUTIFUL! Just look at that design .. ! Imagine that beauty with the next exynos processor, a HD resolution, 1.5 Gig of ram and who know what else..
What do you think?
Sammobile's thread says this:
"The picture above could be true for several reasons: Weber Shandwick is one (or even the) largest PR agency in the world, including here in Germany, Weber Shandwick operates in several sectors, along with Samsung. (This is also very good, I made the best possible experience with those so far). The picture could also originate from an internal document at Weber Shandwick, which to hold a Unpacked event on intended to holdon May 22nd!
So what can we see if we take a clo.es look at this picture. To start with the bezel it is really really small!
We see a shutter-button for the camera FINALLY.
Besides, the design fits the Galaxy S3. Loudspeaker front, above and below the display- a perfect match to the current design line from Samsung. Look at the Galaxy S WiFi4.2 or 1.10 of the Galaxy note, both are the display next to the speakers!
If true, the picture above, it also directly teaser unpacked a Samsung event for 22 May in London - in my opinion, very likely. On 22 May announce where a few weeks later, the Olympic Games will begin to quickly put on the market on time and to have the Olympic Games 2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 in the shops. In my view, could vote at Reddit surfaced image that is so loose - I hope even on it. Then you would have a date and place, I can plunder my account for the plane and the speculation goes in another direction!
May 22nd is the approximate date that the London Olympic Torch Relay starts – of which Samsung are a major sponsor – so this date and event in London make total sense.

Samsung Note 10.1 enters the Queen's UK Royal Collection!!!

Here's a little number I spotted on the BBC web site last night that seems to have slipped the attention of many!
Here's what it says:
The Queen will add the first tablet computer to the Royal Collection when she is presented with a "digital time-capsule" later. The touchscreen device will provide access to videos, photographs and text submitted by participants who have recounted memories from the past 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. 150 gigabytes of data was collected, that is more than can be stored on Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1, so it has been limited to 60 selected entries.

These were picked by a panel of judges including the director general of The Royal Photographic Society and the Royal Librarian. Organisers have pledged that the complete library of 80,000 entries will remain available online to all "in perpetuity". It has been called the Diamond (re)Collection.
More than 37,000 people from 66 countries took part in the project, including Olympic "blade runner" athlete Oscar Pistorius and Prince Harry, as well as less famous people. Volunteers were able to submit their memories via a website and app. The most popular occasion turned out to be 2011's Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton which was described by more than 200 people.
Picks uploaded to the tablet computer include:
A former student of Alan Turing remembering the computer pioneer's achievements before his death in 1954.
A teenager delivering a rap about his memories of 2011's London riots.
The BBC presenter George Alagiah telling how he and his family moved from Sri Lanka to Ghana in 1961, before he came to the UK.
"The digital nature of the project required a digital device to present to Her Majesty, and The Queen will be able to press 'play' on the tablet before watching a video of some of the best Jubilee time-capsule entries," said Danny Sriskandarajah, director of the Royal Commonwealth Society charity.
The organisation said it had at one point considered using an Apple iPad, but ultimately opted for Samung's tablet after discussing the project with both firms. The device will be stored at Windsor Castle as part of the Royal Collection. It already includes other digital products - such as PCs and DVDs - as well as art, furniture and other memorabilia spread across 13 residences. It is held in trust by the Sovereign for her successors and the nation.

Would be cool but, can't find any for this size device. I had one for my prior phones...
Here is what I do for my various devices... I use the RAM mounting system. I have a couple of different length arms, and bases for truck, boat, golf cart, etc. I have cradles for my, Nexus 7, Garmin, and iPhone, but for my Nexus 4 I am using the new XGrip universal which I quite like (since getting it, it is the only cradle I use anymore).
If you use this system you can get a threaded 1 inch ball with standard (1/4-20) threads for a couple of bucks and screw it to any standard tripod.
Any update on this? i really wanted a simply (pretty cheap) mount that i could use with the groillapod tripod. don't wanna spend a lot of money since i would only be using it for golf practice every once in while. Thanks!
Does anyone know a way to go about making a cheap tripod for a N4? I have a photography project due in 2 days and I need to produce some good photospheres and panoramas..
I just need a way to keep this thing sturdy while retaining movement. Holding it in my hand just doesn't cut it anymore.

There's this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150967108817 but the axis of rotation is the centre of the phone, not the centre of the lens, might not produce seamless photospheres ...
Mount it upside down in one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002L4QCVE might not be so far off-centre

That's what she said.
Hi
I like the look of the x grip.. I watched the youtube video linekd to and it looks great.
I know almost nothing about tripods.
The user "solutions et" mentions something about a one inch threaded ball. I have no idea what this is.. Where to get it?
What budget tripods can I get that will support the Xgrip?
Do I need to get 3 items.. The tripod, something in between, and an Xgrip?
I want to make sure they're all compatible and I don't know how.
Would appreciate any advice on that.
Thanks
You actually need 4 parts... the X-grip, a one inch ball with 1/4-20 thread to mount to the tripod's screw, an arm to interconnect the ball on the tripod to the ball on the X-grip, and of course a tripod.
Arms are available in lengths from 2.5 inches to about 5 inches. Check out gpscity.com for all of the various RAM mount parts.

You never know what your little one may be up to. I know my baby is planning something but I don't know what. I'm convinced that the small dude is working with the house cat to strategically place legos around the house for me to step on. I must gain access into their private meetings so I can put an end to this.
I could install some video surveillance but have you seen the price of baby monitors? And they're not even that great to begin with! Well the best option for me is to use an old Android device that no longer gets any love. I can position this in my baby's crib (somewhere out of reach) and use an app to keep and eye on things.
The app that you can use is called Dormi and it's free on the Play store. This will use your old device as a camera and stream live video to your current Android device. The features on here are designed specifically for monitoring a baby. The intelligent audio feature will mute the mic when the baby is asleep then raise the volume as soon as is hears crying. You can even use a talk button to have a little chat with your baby.
Notifications will alert you when sound or movement is detected. Now you'll be able to catch your baby red handed when they're up to no good.
Download Dormi - Baby Monitor
Fantastic reviews on the Play store give this app a 4.4. It's the best way to monitor your baby's activity while you're away.
glad to know about this baby monitor you shared. I am using a video baby monitor over 4 months. Not bad serve well. Here is that one http://www.peekaboobabycollection.com/top-3-best-baby-monitor-twins/ Much more reliable.
Baby monitors are the best Thing to check your baby activities. It is the best product available for your baby safety. We are both working and we are using it from last 7 months. Believe me buy it and it will make your life comfortable.
Nice idea about baby monitor. Should it be with sensors??
I have been using it with an old Galaxy tablet for the past months; it's very useful and on noises it turns the screen of the parent device.
We have researched the best baby monitors, in this, you can find the top 10 baby monitors.

Amazfit pace altitude problem

When i check in compass altitude it is always around 300m even though i went in the mountains at approximately 1600m above sea level. It seems that altitude measurements does not work correctly. The same is with trail run. it does show correct elevation gain and loss. but just wrong altitude. i started at 1200m above sea level. it shows that I start at 350 m ?? Does anyone notice same issue?
Yes me too.
But if you wait 45s/1 min before start running when the watch is GPS ready, altitude is correct.
Here is ss of my watch. Using Bike exercise. I'm on the sea level, and watch is showing minus 43 meter.

if you tap on compass it does show air pressure. Average sea-level pressure is 1013.25 mbar. you can check there. But i don't know if altitude is then calculated based on air pressure or gps coordinates. it would be nice if it was on air pressure. but i don't see possibility to calibrate watch. I hope someone else know i bit more.
Nice.
Following the latest update 1.3.4f, I started having height measurement issues.
Up until this update all was really accurate and fine.
Any idea for recovery?
i do wait for GPS fix before starting my bike ride.
Today in a bike ride that everyone had with ~1600m accumulated, I had more than 2150m...

Well I got my Amazfit Pace today , updated to 1.3.6d, but after I just went to the cellar and climbed back the two floors to our flat, the Pace said I climbed 13 floors.
After like one hour at the desk it were 18 floors and after walking 1,5km without any hills to climb, the watch shows me I climbed 50 floors.
Is that a known issue like this one addressed here or is the barometric sensor not working properly?
I have had a few Samsung Gear Fit 2 which had similar issues with the barometric sensor.
