NFC - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

I've watched some Moto G4 Play unboxings on Youtube and i've noticed that some models have NFC, some not. Is there a list where I can see which models have NFC?

I'm pretty sure it's only the 1GB dual SIM model that has NFC. Though, looking through some hidden menus with QuickShortcutMaker, I did find some menus for NFC. Could be that it's just code they didn't pull out. That seems a lot more likely than the phone having the hardware for NFC but it's disabled in the software.
But who knows? The 2GB model apparently has the 10W charging capability where you can get "5 hours from 15 mins of charging"

I have a XT1604 (16GB, 1GB of RAM not dualsim) and it has NFC

XT1604 Moto G4 Play for UK, both 1 and 2 gb versions, has nfc.
Other versions do not have nfc and differ by supported bands

I have G4 play not dual SIM version XT1604 1gb ram with NFC

I have an XT1603 Dual SIM, DTV, 16GB/2GB and it does NOT have NFC, and the non-DTV model (XT1600) doesn't have it too

What is the difference between G928C and G928F?

Hi, I know that G928F is european and G928C is Asian. However, what exactly is the difference? I'm asking because previously the processors used to be different. However, Samsung have put the same processor in all of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
P.S. Which GB did you get? 32GB or 64GB?

Mainly the Modem and the bands it supports is what's different between these models, at times companies also include Country specify features like LG G3 had TV antenna for Korea version, but that's rare. Apart from that if you buy it from a specific carrier they also might some say, for instance Samsung pay not working on Verizon models.
So, for the most part it's almost identical except modem.
I got 32 as 64 isn't available in my country (yet?) But boy I love this phone, killer looks and display with an awesome camera.

[Moto X Force] all Mexican Moto x Force are Dual sim!!!

Hi! jaocagomez here.
i've sent about 5 mexican moto x force to different places, but nobody makes clear this.
is the mexican x force dual sim by default?
i know it says something in settings.
can ANYONE confirm or deny this?
could the DS on baseband and system version mean DUAL SIM?
pic related.
i'll answer myself (sorry for the doble post)
i was suspicious because the name in the baseband said DS which mean dual sim, after this i only needed confirmation that it works right out of the box without having to flash anything.
strange thing is, this is not listed on the x force motorola page, but it works if you put your 2nd sim.
All moto x Force from mexico are dual sim
so far i only confirmed the 32gb version working.
im waiting for the 64Gb version confirmation.

My MXF (64 GB) comes from a retail store in México D.F., and is a dual sim model too. Dual sim working out of the box and after 6.0 update
Mine is from UK and sim slot shows sim1 and sd card/sim2. I have to replace another sim for nano to be able to test.

Because most probably is just generic slot. Doesn't mean that phone itself has dual sim support. Honestly I don't think it has, will test when I get another nano sim.

Mine is from UK, not confirmed that supports ds. Will try, of course.

So far, all the sources I have seen report that the UK version is a single SIM model.
Even if the tray says "SIM 2", it doesn't mean anything...
Even the single SIM version of X Play has a tray that includes space for the second SIM card (and also says "SIM 2"), it's just covered with a piece of plastic.
In X Force the same space is shared between second SIM and SD card, so they can't cover it. That's all...
---------- Post added at 08:18 ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 ----------
So, to sum things up, so far we know that 32GB version from Mexican Moto Maker is a dual SIM model.
And that 64GB version from a retail location in Mexico is also a dual SIM model - but this may not be the exact same model as available through Moto Maker.
Whether the 64GB version from Moto Maker is, in fact, dual SIM hasn't been confirmed yet...
It would be nice if Motorola actually confirmed that...
I'm going crazy already installed more than 6 versions, LAT, MX, BR, EU and any works DualSim.
My team is BL Unlock SIM Unlock and does not work, apparently has to do the system, the version that you have your 23.11.5.kinzie_retmx_ds.retla.en.01 retmx * * is the only one that is DualSim, as you installed this version ?
You can have the link or location came down?
You can make a backup of your modem?

This post doesn't make any sense. What team? What doesn't work?
What does unlocking SIM have to do with dual SIM capabilities?
What device do you have? Which country did it come from?

Usually if you see "ds" in baseband / sw version on stock sw, then it's a dual-sim.
On the side note, which LTE bands does mexican Moto X Force have? I kinda like it's dual-sim, since now I have two Moto MAXX in my pocket.

GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS / HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 40)
Out of curiosity, I removed the SIM tray from my Turbo 2 and took a peek inside with a bright light. Apparently, my XT1585 has dual SIM... hardware-wise at least. Of course, my SIM tray won't fit a 2nd SIM, only the SD card.
Would it be safe to say all Turbo 2 and X Force variations are dual SIM from a hardware perspective?

Is the SIM tray different than the one in XT1580 (X Force)?
Because SIM tray in X Force has only two slots -one for the first SIM card, and the second one for either SD card or the second SIM card - but not both.

I'm not sure what you saw inside your phone, but X Play (XT1563) also looks like,
from hardware perspective, it has connectors for the second SIM - and the single SIM version cannot be converted to a dual one regardless.
So it probably doesn't really matter whether those connectors are there or not...
I'm really intrested in this topic. I'm in Italy, and I'd love to put my hands on a Moto X Force dual sim. The ultimate smarphone.
So far I understood the only version ds is the mexican one, and no single sim version can become dual sim by flashing firmware. Is that correct?

I haven't seen a single X Force from Mexico being reported as a single SIM version, and there are several reports saying it is a dual SIM device.
However, Motorola Mexico still claims it is a single SIM device, and their webpage doesn't specify whether it is a dual or single version,
just that it uses nano SIMs.
There is also X Force from Brazil which, according to Motorola Brazil webpage, is officially a dual SIM device.
The UK version of X Force is officially (on the webpage) a single SIM device and it doesn't have options for the second SIM.
However, I don't know if anybody even tried flashing the UK version with a different firmware or what the result of that flashing would be.

It's the same for UK X Play, but X Play can be converted to Dual SIM by flashing a Dual SIM firmware. I guess it will be the same for X Force, but someone has to take the risk to confirm that.

NFC question: is there a UK/EU ROM to flash to US 64GB version to get NFC?

I'm changing over from Big Red to Big Pink here in the US. I'm all but sold on the G5 plus, but the no NFC thing is a major drag.
Is there a UK/EU rom that can be flashed to restore the NFC on the US version? Or should I just pick up the EU version from Amazon UK?

There is no rom to enable NFC.
NFC is a hardware component not included in the US version to save cost. I believe we got a compass instead or something lol. The rationale was that the US consumer barely uses NFC.
So.. yeah.. if you want the NFC get the EU version or India version or whatever. The "everybody else" versions of phones tend to be better anyway. I do have the US cheapo version and love it.. but have no need for NFC.

Amazon UK don't currently sell the G5 Plus, only the G5.
That might change at some stage.
If you're looking to buy the EU version then Amazon.de have it. Use chrome to translate from German.
This one has NFC, 3GB ram, 32GB and the dual SIM tray (I'm typing in one now!)
One downside of an EU version would be that potentially it might not support the US LTE bands so you might have to use 3G . Something you could look into anyhow.
I wonder how hard it would be to buy the hardware pieces to add it.
I am guessing it is in there already, i cant see Lenovo going to the expense of making sure you lot get a compass but no NFC and we get NFC but no compass.
The Moto X Play didnt have a notification LED or Accelerometer but both were present in the hardware and disabled.

Moto E4 US vs EU

Can anyone point out the differences between the US and the EU version?
I have te feeling the only look similar but are completely different on the inside. Qualcomm vs Mediatek.
Since Mediatek doesn't publish it's kernel sources there will be no custom kernel for the EU version. Am I right?
I have had the opportunity to test the EU version in a store. I noticed some holes on the back for a speaker? on the back, something that looked like notification LED? (or was it the light sensor) on the top right front.
Also the camera's and even battery life could be different since the chipset is different.
Is the US version better than the EU version?
Better for what? Battery life? Performance? There's no way to know until people test it.
I have the US Verizon Prepaid Version of the phone. I believe it's pretty much the same as the regular US unlocked version. In a previous post in this thread I discussed a problem I was having with a specific game and it not displaying certain graphics. Nobody with the international version was able to reproduce the issue. There was also a difference in some of the options in the settings menu (IE MEMORY Option missing from the main settings menu ((I later discovered where it was hidden.))
If there are any test you'd like me to run or anything I can do to help answer this question please let me know.

Yes the US has the Snapdragon 425, and 426(Sprint) I know the Indian one has mediatek I don't know what the EU models have.
Also from review the Indian models have metal body builds
It's weird only the Sprint version has the Snapdragon 427. The Sprint version has no fingerprint sensor based on the photos on their website. See the attached photo. According to the comparison of the 425 vs 427 on Qualcomm's website (scroll to almost bottom of page), the 427 has a faster modem and QuickCharge 3.0 (2.0 on 425).

I have the US version of moto e4. It is a pretty good phone. The system is very fast (Android 7.1.1 with May 1, 2017 security patch), the gps modem is quite sensitive for the price. It has most of the sensors except NFC, IR blaster, thermometer and barometer. I checked the compatibility with EU networks. The problem is that it supports only B7 (2600 MHz) LTE band (no B3 or B20 support), so in the cities the phone can achieve 4G speed, but at the countryside you may have just 3G (HSPA) or 3G+ (HSPA+) speed, which is enough for reading emails, news, using google maps and waze or getting weather information. But do not organize a video conference with that phone somewehere at the europian countryside.

Moto E4 does not formally support quick charge spec. However, stock kernel enables rapid charging with uptake rates approaching 2000 mAh under ideal conditions. Can use any suitably sized charge brick and high quality cable. Unfortunately, the charger included with most US retail units tops out at 4W/0.8A. Good for overnight charging but not a quick boost.
I bought the US version (Verizon). Can I use a protective case claiming to be meant for the EU version? Are there diferences in the body, location of camera, sensor ...?

They are the same size but the holes for headphone jack, rear mic for noise cancellation, and spearker are cut out differently. See attached picture as example.

Galaxy S20 Manuals(All Versions)

Today Samsung has published S20 manuals, not much info on 5G though, I'd like to know if there is an On/Off 5G toggle for places where 5G isn't available, so 5G radios won't waste battery power.
