Moto E4 US vs EU - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Can anyone point out the differences between the US and the EU version?
I have te feeling the only look similar but are completely different on the inside. Qualcomm vs Mediatek.
Since Mediatek doesn't publish it's kernel sources there will be no custom kernel for the EU version. Am I right?
I have had the opportunity to test the EU version in a store. I noticed some holes on the back for a speaker? on the back, something that looked like notification LED? (or was it the light sensor) on the top right front.
Also the camera's and even battery life could be different since the chipset is different.
Is the US version better than the EU version?

Better for what? Battery life? Performance? There's no way to know until people test it.

I have the US Verizon Prepaid Version of the phone. I believe it's pretty much the same as the regular US unlocked version. In a previous post in this thread I discussed a problem I was having with a specific game and it not displaying certain graphics. Nobody with the international version was able to reproduce the issue. There was also a difference in some of the options in the settings menu (IE MEMORY Option missing from the main settings menu ((I later discovered where it was hidden.))
If there are any test you'd like me to run or anything I can do to help answer this question please let me know.

Do you have this on Verizon Prepaid? Have you tried a GSM SIM in it? If so, is it SIM unlocked and what bands did it support?

Have the us unlocked model running on total wireless(Verizon service) the only difference between the US and EU models are certain bands ( no 3, 40 on us model)

Yes the US has the Snapdragon 425, and 426(Sprint) I know the Indian one has mediatek I don't know what the EU models have.
Also from review the Indian models have metal body builds

It's weird only the Sprint version has the Snapdragon 427. The Sprint version has no fingerprint sensor based on the photos on their website. See the attached photo. According to the comparison of the 425 vs 427 on Qualcomm's website (scroll to almost bottom of page), the 427 has a faster modem and QuickCharge 3.0 (2.0 on 425).

I have the US version of moto e4. It is a pretty good phone. The system is very fast (Android 7.1.1 with May 1, 2017 security patch), the gps modem is quite sensitive for the price. It has most of the sensors except NFC, IR blaster, thermometer and barometer. I checked the compatibility with EU networks. The problem is that it supports only B7 (2600 MHz) LTE band (no B3 or B20 support), so in the cities the phone can achieve 4G speed, but at the countryside you may have just 3G (HSPA) or 3G+ (HSPA+) speed, which is enough for reading emails, news, using google maps and waze or getting weather information. But do not organize a video conference with that phone somewehere at the europian countryside.

Moto E4 does not formally support quick charge spec. However, stock kernel enables rapid charging with uptake rates approaching 2000 mAh under ideal conditions. Can use any suitably sized charge brick and high quality cable. Unfortunately, the charger included with most US retail units tops out at 4W/0.8A. Good for overnight charging but not a quick boost.

I bought the US version (Verizon). Can I use a protective case claiming to be meant for the EU version? Are there diferences in the body, location of camera, sensor ...?

[Q] Qualcomm MDM6600, Motorola Xoom 3G (US) and GSM networks

Hi all,
As I was traveling to the US in the next weeks, I was planning the possibility of buying a xoom 3G there as it has not been launched yet in Europe. Then I just realized that the 3G version of the Motorola Xoom is in fact an CDMA only version.
However today I have seen in the iFixit that the Motorola Xoom has the Qualcomm MDM6600 radio chipset. This chipset, which supports HSPA+ (MDM6600 looks like a GSM/UMTS/HSPA+/EV-DO multi-mode processor), is the same as the world phone Motorola Droid Pro.
So, my question is:
- Could we have some hope the US version will allow us to connect to GSM versions in Europe anytime soon?
- Will be able to navigate through GLONASS navigation satellites?
Intriguing enough,
/À
No.
Plus it doesn't hurt to search. This has been touched on numerous time on here.
Thanks for the answer. Actually, I did some search on the forum, but still I fail to see whether the difference will be on the hardware or software, as the radio chipset looks capable.
Part of the issue is that the antennas are tuned for VZ's CDMA frequencies (and modulation, IIRC). It wouldn't work very well on say, 900MHz GSM.
Just because the chipset is capable of GSM theoretically doesn't mean it has the antennas or tuning or SIM slot to be compatible with GSM. The lack of a GSM SIM slot alone shoots down the proposition.

Actually, provided the existing SIM-card reader is wired to a serial port (as opposed to directly to the Mini-PCI port's pins) that part might actually work
(BTW, I will give my firstborn for the 3G-version's schematic. Hook me up, someone!)

Just checked- same size. Dunno about connections though.
Why not just wait until April 19th and get the Euro 3G version from Carphone Warehouse? The US version, as standard, will not work in Europe.
1.) euopean software flashed on a vzw xoom
2.) gsm simcard detected and unlocked(pin)
3.) for some reason the rild is falling back to cdma even if it is configured for gsm

Hi GhostOfTheNet,
Do you think If install the Stock MZ601_H.6.1-38-1_Retail_Europe.zip, would it work with the Xoom MZ600 instead of the existing Build HRI39?
If not, Please what have you done so far to get it work?

Hi,
this is probably a stupid question, but I'd just like a definitive confirmation on this - will I be able to use GPS from a US Motorola Xoom (MZ604) in Europe (specifically the UK)?

US & Global variant comparison

We know for sure that there is two different version of the Axon 7, the one sold in North America and the one sold in Europe (and china ?), respectively named A2017U & A2017G.
It would be great to compare the hardware of both these version to see if there is any differences (besides network bands and software) or if they are the same except in name.
Can two persons with the two variants be kind enough to provide AIDA64 screenshots of the importants category listed in AIDA64 ?
Thanks !

Depending on how they did the antenna and power amplifier design, they could still be the same exact HW. The 820 SoC supports all those bands, so at some level, it's just programming the chipset and ROM on which to allow.

This was talked about a little in the webinar. They had been marketing 3140, but when they talked to the battery manufacturer, they had actually done 3250 mAh so they changed the marketing material to match. Since the Chinese phones were already released at that point, I'd be willing to bet there is some piece of code somewhere in there reporting the old values rather than the new values. Or ZTE or the battery manufacturer got something wrong.

I have the 4gb RAM, 128gb ROM version. It is Chinese but seems to work fine here in Australia...
Funnily enough, some of the problems complained about by the US owners aren't present on the Chinese version with no problems on English translations ( I have language set to English).
Camera has NEVER had a problem and build quality is fantastic with no problems.
It has slight differences in appearance, the major being the gold US version I've seen seems to have white antenna bars on back and headphone jack has a white collar, mine has slightly lighter gold bars for the antenna and goes gold to black interior for the headphone jack.
Other than a few apps that I can't seem to get from the playstore (starts to download and the playstore up and closes) there doesn't seem to be much other difference...
Firmware version is B07 and model is A2017...
Oh, and on Antutu Benchmark I get around 142000 just edging out One Plus 3 for top position, if benchmarks mean anything to you...

NFC question: is there a UK/EU ROM to flash to US 64GB version to get NFC?

I'm changing over from Big Red to Big Pink here in the US. I'm all but sold on the G5 plus, but the no NFC thing is a major drag.
Is there a UK/EU rom that can be flashed to restore the NFC on the US version? Or should I just pick up the EU version from Amazon UK?

There is no rom to enable NFC.
NFC is a hardware component not included in the US version to save cost. I believe we got a compass instead or something lol. The rationale was that the US consumer barely uses NFC.
So.. yeah.. if you want the NFC get the EU version or India version or whatever. The "everybody else" versions of phones tend to be better anyway. I do have the US cheapo version and love it.. but have no need for NFC.
Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Amazon UK don't currently sell the G5 Plus, only the G5.
That might change at some stage.
If you're looking to buy the EU version then Amazon.de have it. Use chrome to translate from German.
This one has NFC, 3GB ram, 32GB and the dual SIM tray (I'm typing in one now!)
One downside of an EU version would be that potentially it might not support the US LTE bands so you might have to use 3G . Something you could look into anyhow.
I wonder how hard it would be to buy the hardware pieces to add it.
I am guessing it is in there already, i cant see Lenovo going to the expense of making sure you lot get a compass but no NFC and we get NFC but no compass.
The Moto X Play didnt have a notification LED or Accelerometer but both were present in the hardware and disabled.

From my testing, the unlocked version will pick up Verizon LTE bands but calls fail since there is no VoLTE option on the phone. Did not pick up any of their 3G signals, and their system would not accept my IMEI as a compatible device. So it may work if you can convince Verizon to add the phone to their system, which is unlikely since they already have their own version.
FWIW I also tried it with a Sprint SIM, but got no service whatsoever and their system would not accept the IMEI. Thew in a Cricket/AT&T SIM and the phone worked as expected.

Which LTE Bands are you getting?
I'm on T-Mobile,seems we only have Band 2 support on the WW unlocked 8GB/128 GB Model.

I was able to get service on 4 and 13 for Verizon, and 2 and 12 for Cricket/AT&T. It may support more, but I'm not aware of any apps that will let me scan for service on all bands. LTE Discovery mentioned a "Potential eCSFB issue" with the Verizon SIM which is likely because there was no CDMA support.
Fun fact... apparently the phone supports XLTE with Verizon, which led to a rather depressing speed test compared to my service with Cricket.

THX!,just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same model phone.
I'm gonna give it one more day,get around town & see if the connectivity is OK.
If spotty (w/Band 2 only) ,I'm sending it back,or,selling it on Swappa.
Outside of sparse LTE Band support,it's a nice phone,I really don't wanna part w/it so soon after getting it.
Haven't tried out the AR/VR Capabilities yet, but,I do like the display & the speaker quality/loudness.
TBH,I'm covered in WI-FI Most of the time, but,I did expect better LTE Band support nevertheless, especially for a DualSIM/Unlocked phone.
The fact that it's being sold on Amazon as-is seems to be Asus shooting themselves in the foot, certainly there'll be quite a few returns, once people find out connectivity is less than ideal for an unlocked phone, one that is marketed to the US/North America.
Update on mine, battery life is getting better now as the phone settles in. NOT impressed with Data though. I was in the country yesterday, my ASUS Zenpad had 2 bars of 4G and the Zenfone was in roam. Everything else is great, and living without root is bearable, I guess. Fortunately, my 7 year high score on Klondike is an X-Box Live/Google Play game and the score were carried over from the X Box cloud. I know that sounds silly but 7 years over multiple devices is a long time to build up a high score and was a major stress point going to a locked down device

International Version

I was just looking at the prices for the P10 Lite on Amazon and both the 3gb and 4gb RAM models are listed as International Versions. Does that mean it can't be used in the US?

Not necessarily. It may lack carrier features and it won't work on CDMA networks (Verizon and Sprint).
Remember to check the bands the phones support and compare it to the bands your network uses. You'll want all your network's bands to be supported for optimal performance and connectivity. It should still work even with a band or two missing but you may run into issues occasionally depending on what bands are missing.

I think I'm gonna go with the LG G5 RS988. It only has a quad-core processor and still out performs most phones, in it's price range, with octo-cores. It also runs on all three bands that MetroPCS uses. It destroys the P10 Lite in every category when comparing them side by side on GSMArena.

Of course. LG G5 is a flagship device from last year, so it should be better than a budget phone. It's cheap now because of the poor sales.
I should note that you run the risk of bootloops which has plagued a lot of LG phones including the G5 I believe. Not trying to dissuade you but I feel like I should give you a heads up so you know what you're getting into (or potentially getting into).
