The CPSC is slowing this WAY down now. to my knowledge AT&T has some of the devices in storage already, but until the CPSC approves them they will not be allowed to be exchanged.

Kind of funny since the CPSC still hasn't issued a formal recall.
So I'm not sure how they can block something that isn't officially recalled.

Yeah super dumb. Its like the CPSC was butt hurt that Samsung tried to replace the defective devices fast without their help. It may take another week for them to get released to the public now. In Korea Samsung has already replace 400,000 units. The USA units are literally being held up now by this stupid government agency for no reason at all.

I suspect they will respond after 9/16/16

Few peeps getting Thiers delivered today in Canada. Some will be updating forums with oics or what not. Will find out soon enough.

Froyo

Ok, this post was really stupid. We will get froyo when we get it and I was being stoopid when I posted this and was just joking around. If you really want to, you can call samsung, but I doubt that would effect anything.
How about tommarrow around twelveish

There live chat is down now, Ive think the nerds have been bomb rushing them. Ive even suggest give us a source code and we will have something better than your carriers can ever give. All of a sudden too much traffic and call our customer service number. Im in a mood to be a butt hole tommorow since i got to work. Im all in lol.
Why not just call Google and complain? Its about as relevant as calling Samsung and complaining. Sprint is the reason its not released. Sprint is the reason we didn't have it months ago. Maybe if you guys READ the 32 effing other Froyo pissed off about not having it threads you would understand this and not have to create a new one every minute saying "hurr durr lets set Samsung on fire".

There is no proof sprint is the problem. There is ample proof that samsung is. The countries didn't get froyo for their galaxy s devices until this month. Canada, the UK, and Australia. In addition no US carrier has deployed froyo for their galaxy s phones. But even with these facts you claim sprint has been holding it up for months. Please provide proof of your claims.

As far as I can tell, none of us really know enough about this process to fairly place blame on Sprint or Samsung.

Don't take this as a challenge but why sprint? While I don't hold sprint blameless in this, I just don't see any evidence that sprint has had froyo for months and is holding back. All evidence points to samsung as the main problem. Look at what happened in Canada. Released froyo on Dec 17 and had to pull it because it was destroying the internal storage on some of the phones. They didn't release it again until a week later.

AT&T Release Date?!

Has anyone heard of rumors of AT&T getting it anytime soon...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
There's actually rumors that sgs2 will never be released in US.
Thr only rumors I heard were several months ago that it'd be released in March. Then beginning of June... then it went completely silent.
I just went and bought an unlocked, pure Samsung SGS2 for $675 shipped (free nextday delivery from Hong Kong). Couldn't be happier right now =)
I suggest if you have the budget for it, don't wait for a gimped ATT version and get the real thing.

There are quite a few threads running where the source of that info has been discredited. There have been pics of the Sprint version in the wild and the 2.3.4 leak has AT&T's LTE APNs and PNGs of their LTE logo it in it. So it's definitely coming to the U.S., the question is when?
It is supposed to launch Q3, so July, August, or September probably. I would say end of August or September, but that's my guess.
If it is launching with LTE as was suggested on this board, then it will be released sometime when att officially announces its LTE network in 5 cities at the end of this summer.
I think Sprint will be the first to get it as we have leaked pictures of the Sprint version already.
Haha ubfortunately my pockets arent that steep if not i woild.had already bought it...

Well it's not VZW since their version hasn't been through the FCC. So it's either Sprint because their's was spotted or AT&T's because LTE code for it is in 2.3.4. Based on volume, especially corporate accounts, AT&T would be Samsung's more important customer. But if AT&T's trying to tie it to the launch of their LTE network that could be later than August. Anyone want to start a pool?

ces and jllybean

. i was at ces yeterday at the samsung booth. there was a guy givig the samsung rep a lot of grief for the shoddy updaate rolllout for the us, the samsung rep said we'd have the update "very soon". since it was running on the note 10.1 with lte for verizon one would hope so. it really seems like they delayed the us upate so verizon could have something unique. the guy also asked about the keyboard dock andt he samsung rep said he didn't know but suspected now that verizon was gettting the lte unit samsug would bring the dock to the us. apparenly a marketing decision
as for jellybean on the note it looked great.it is really multi-windows and not split screen. windows are resizeable. switcching lag is gone,
Let's hope it's by months end.

Here's a link to Engadget's Myriam Joire's interview on stage of Samsung's Ryan Bidan yesterday. Joire owns a WIFi Note 10.1 and asked when those of us in North America will get the JB update. Bidan said soon, too. He also said the Verizon LTE tablet will ship with JB 4.2.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/samsung-interview/
I've said since the beginning when these topics started coming out that it was because Samsung had a "newer" version coming out, possibly at CES, that would come with JB preinstalled and it would use that to it's advantage. Look what happened. I guarantee Verizon paid quite a bit to make sure that update would not come out for existing tablets for quite a while after their version was out. No one seems to understand that all these companies care about is making the most possible money in the shortest amount of time. A lot of people have the illusion that they care about consumer interests and wanna put the best possible product in their hands. These are corporations. They wanna put the most "money making" product in consumers hands and that's something they can mass produce quickly, sell quickly, and make quick money on it.
Apple has been using something like this to their advantage for years. They release an iPhone or iPad and deliberately leave out "key" features to be added to future devices. If they didn't, they wouldn't make as much money.
Bottom line is, it's a shame that people think corporations have the consumers best interests in mind..
I have to agree with you, transcode of the biggest reasons why I'm not happy with these delays..

That's all well & good but Verizon has NOTHING to do with Australia. Their network has different frequencies and to be honest, I only know the name because of this forum...
Why should some idiot company that has nothing to do with the rest of the world be able to dictate when an update is released to the rest of the planet?
In Oz I'm still waiting for the exFAT fix... Got impatient and am running German 4.1.2. Still, why should I potentially loose my warranty on something that really bears no relation to the rest of the world bar America and possibly Canada?

The business practice Is worldwide . Although the prevalence of LTE varies by market, if one of your country's carriers is deploying LTE and wants marketing advantages by lining up exclusive deals on LTE devices, don't be surprised to see update delays. Start checking tech and cellular tech publications in your respective countries to see if there are rumors of pending releases of carrier branded LTE GN 10.1 devices. If there are, you may see updates for your WIFI devices delayed.
Haha I see some tin foil hats going around. If it was just samsung be one thing but way to many other tablets out there dont have updates to 4.1. But hey what they want to do is up to them. But think .. putting 4.2 ..thats it? That and Verizon name on the back is the best they could come up with? Anyone with a TAB has phone.. anyway.. keep your hat on and who knows..

LOL, I don't think the corporate types like the look of foil with their expensive suits. This is about the reality of corporate relationships and marketing. LTE may be more widely deployed in North America right now but it will be rolled out elsewhere. As it reaches 3G markets, users will find LTE services and devices categorized and priced as premium, top-of-the line . Like it or not, Samsung will repeat the roll out of the LTE GN 10.1 for Verizon with other carriers around the world as those carriers deploy their LTE networks to try to keep up with the 24/7 demand for fast and voluminous amounts of data and entertainment services like streaming. Carriers pay for tweaking and branding and Samsung and all other companies will happily reserve updates and features for a carrier launch even if it makes individual consumers unhappy.

Yes and no. Granted, Verizon is a larger customer than we are as individual consumers. However, I do not want a Note with telephony. I have a phone. And if the poll here is to be believed wi-fi only constitutes the majority of Note buyers. Thus, Samsung ignores us at their peril, and by us I mean we individual users with wi-fi only and the retailers selling us these units.

Yeah but at least apple launches the same update to every device to every country on the same day. Instead of taking some darts and randomly throwing it at a world map which is what it looks like they are doing.

Talked to Tmobile today regarding what to do

I talked to tmobile on their twitter help page and then called them. The rep told me on the phone I can keep the device if I like and when they get replacements in they will ship the replacement FIRST and then I can send them back my original Note 7. I ordered mine via the store so I have to deal with corporate. Tmobile help page told me the same thing I can keep my Note and simply swap it out but said I can have it shipped to the store too.
I hope this is the case and I can have it shipped to my house and simply send the old one back. The only store near me is always busy and their staff is a PITA to deal with.
I do have an S7 to use as a backup but hate the small screen and I don't want to get a refund then have to wait for that to be put back on the card.
I am watching the V20 too. I might be out next week BUT we know how the G5 has issues and turned into a major flop. I'd hate leaving the Note and it ends up the V20 is a POS phone and stuck with a worse phone.
I just called them, they said bring it back to the store for a full refund or a new phone. Replacements aren't even available yet , why can't people just be competent, not asking for a genius, just basic competency.

You mean the reps? I think Tmobile is being pretty straight forward, so far compared to the other carriers who are not even really sure what to do yet. Overall though I hate the reps especially the ones in the stores. Most are clueless. The store basically says if you ordered it you have to go through Tmobile and the store won't issue a refund.
What problems did the G5 have?

I hear battery life and the modules some were reporting they become loose over time and durability issues too I've seen people talk about. Overall a crap device that was hyped a lot before launch. I don't want to get a v20 and it has issues and is a crap phone. At least with the Note I know what I'm getting.

From a business perspective, this is not the result of incompetence. They know that trial lawyers are waiting around for the first Note 7 from T-Mobile to burn so they can hit them (and Samsung) with a class-action lawsuit. If that happens, the cost to T-Mobile will be huge, so they are trying to get the Note 7s back ASAP, even though they aren't ready for it. This is a totally unexpected event. They didn't stockpile alternate phones in the last few weeks in preparation for a bunch of people trading back their brand-new Note 7s.
They should allow a pre order replacement so not everyone is calling them or everyone going to the store at once when the new phones are available. It's gonna get chaotic.

Thing is there is no official time line of events. Who knows how the failure works and when, not saying most will be affected but saying it hasnt happened yet isnt really concrete proof it wont ever happen.
Like the ring of death on the Xbox 360.
Also no phone should explode if you are using a different charger. Thats again a failure of the manufacturer

I posted a similar post yesterday, I've seen it with HTC and Samsung where a few months into sales of a phone they seem to silently switch manufacturing to another vendor or use cheaper parts I guess to improve profits.....so my thought is now with this whole recall and it's cost to the bottom line will Samsung (A) Keep everything quality wise the same and take the full hit? or (B) Save every penny they can short of the battery pack? (i.e cheaper made camera parts from cheaper vendor etc)
You know someone on the boards the other day brought up a good point.
If the CPSC gets involved with this (as of now they are NOT) it will be illegal to sell a note 7 that has been recalled. So if you were going to sell your faulty Note 7 on ebay or something
it would be illegal.
So i would def get a replacement if you are planning to sell down the road.
My wife and I will trade ours in when they get the replacements in stock. We're not going to trade it in just quite yet.
its my understanding that T Mobile US might not be affected by the recall at all, and we all might not wind up needing new phones.

Will AT&T turn off the phones in time if you do not return it?

Will AT&T turn off the phones in time if you do not return it? Maybe a couple months or ? I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Thinking of my options and if I can hold off until the S8 release. BTW, I don't fly commercially, but they could cripple the phone so bad it could be pretty useless.

In just got a text from ATT saying that on Oct 15, all Note 7's will officially be banned on all flights by the FAA.
As for a shut down, its possible, but not confirmed. If it happens though, it'll most likely be a few months down the road. Enough time for people to find replacement phones. I wouldn't be surprised if it was soon after the S8 launch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N930A using Tapatalk
They're not going to remotely shut then all down.. Even in the policy and texts you notice that they say you're 'highly recommended' to return it. When it comes to installments, legally it may be smarter for them not to charge people, because then the 'loan' may be subject to lemon law or something similar, but that's over my pay grade.
For those worried about being shut down, just look at the Quickfire. That phone was recalled and people still have them on the network (probably only 2 or 3 after all this time). Point being, they can't just shut em off unless they can prove it's harmful to the network. While the note can seriously damage itself and possibly your leg, a defective battery can't hurt the network so we should be safe.
As silly as it is, I just can't bring myself to return it.. I've switched back to my 7 edge because work doesn't want us using Note 7's, but I'd like to keep it just on the off chance theres any new info. Definitely not paying $900 for a marshmallow device without updates though.

If you have yours from Craigslist, don't you think it's more plausible that whoever sold you the phone, may have ripped you off one way or another?
AT&T already stated you can use your note 7 until December 31st. Samsung plans to give everyone a free upgrade to the s8 for all of our troubles if you turned your note 7 in for another galaxy device.

That's for South Korea only, no upgrade program here so don't hold your breath on that. Also at&t reps rarely know much more than us I don't believe that they're going to kill all devices after the new year.

So far I haven't heard of an official final date.. as a matter of fact, I received an email today from AT&T about me turning my Note 7 in, and it stated they urged me to turn it off and bring it back, but there was no date involved or anything.
