now thats funny, even though the mate 8 has a comparably "weak" gpu. its probably because its energy efficient and doesnt throttle at all in long term like all the other socs

Plus lower resolution (except for the Pro 6) plus I only see one game tested?
All in all: pretty poor article but possibly nice for the Mate8 fans around here

Mate 8 is best in all games? Wow. Amazing phone! :good:

lol
its funny though, they do mention two games in the article text, but only show the results of one

Look carefully at the table. It showed the result of both games, and Mate 8 came out on top in both games.
The result comes down to Mate 8 being a larger metal phone. It handles the heat better and therefore doesn't throttle as much. The Kirin 955 on smaller phones such as the P9 and Honor 8 doesn't have same level of gaming performance.
The results are not surprising. I've always been telling people they can't judge a phone's gaming performance just by looking at the specs of the SoC or by the Antutu/3Dmark scores. High end phones nowadays are often limited by thermal capacity, rather than by the number of GPU cores or clock speed. Benchmarks won't reveal that because it only stress the CPU OR GPU and only for a short period. In actual gaming both the CPU AND GPU are stressed for a much longer period of time, therefore sustained performance is determined largely by thermal capacity and throttling strategy. Too bad some people still believe they'll get 3x the gaming performance by going Exynos 8890 instead of Kirin 950.

Hi i had note 4.but i left note 5..because of. No memcard support battery is small cpu is low than mate 8..recarding the gpu.
I saw mate 8 gpu scores 20000 points in antutu 3d. Same as note 5 scores in antutu 6.0
What do u say
I came over from the Note 3 and it slaughters the Note 3 in performance. I am very happy purchasing the 128gb version from China. Only thing was setup took a little more effort.

If you are really looking only Antutu and GPU scores, please wait year 2020. There will be much faster devices available.

cpu is fastest on the planet for mobiles, beating all apple cpus, snapdragons (including 820) and even the exynos 8890. the gpu though is basically mainstream, so if youre a hardcore mobile gamer then tmu should check this out further. its definitely fast enough for current games, especially at fullHD and it also doesnt throttle, a huge advantage to other SoCs that give u a few minutes of awesome performance and then throttle down to half speed

I saw comparison in utube between mt8 n iph6, the loading test mt8 was beaten by iph6.. but it kills note5 in another clip.
What d u think jbmc? What does make iph6 wins?
i sold my note 5 to get mate 8
i am very happy with mate cpu performance
but mate 8 camera beside note 5 cam is ****

i would actually call it a tie, since the iphone only won due to faster boot up time. with the rest, the mate 8 was faster the difference there being a combination of software & hardware. the cpu itself is much faster in the mate 8, whereas apple has an advantage over any other android phone due to its ability to be able and design hardware and software all in one swoop.

[Q] Gaming performance

hey guys
I was planing to buy this phone so I have a question from those who are already using it
how is the gaming performance on this phone in comparison with Xperia z5 compact?!
---
I mean, I know there is huge difference between adreno 430 and 510 which is midrange but how is it in real life gaming!
if anyone have tested some games like asphalt 8 or dead trigger 2 please review here
btw I just want to know the performance because this screen size is not for gaming anyway...
thank you
Adreno 510 is better than the 430..dont see only gigaflops,...the snapdragon 810 is hot and throttling..a lot

430 got double faster but it will throttling down bcoz of hot at the end the speed would be about the same.

so it means 510 aint that good it's just that 430 becomes the same after some minutes, so whats the conclusion? does Xperia X compact perform good in real life gaming or not?
and by good I mean no lag on high quality!

Overall XC must be faster with 3GB ram. I'm stick with Z5c bcoz I want more developments.
@op the xperia xc will play the titles you mentioned, it will play all new games fine including real racing 3. and it will do it very energy efficient too ie. less battery use and more play. =) the cpu cores cortex A72 over A57 (although there are only 2xA72+4xA53 they are on par with 4xA57+4x53) are also a step up since they again are much more efficient per energy used which is a factor many forgets, it might score the same benchmark but if the cpu/gpu only uses half the energy its a big improvement in my eyes. the 5xx is also the first chipset to officially support Vulcan (next opengl) although the 430 in theory should be able to support it too. I own both phones, love the z5c but the XC is imho a step up and better phone overall. everything; if it is games or everyday use is just more fluent which probably is contributed by the extra GB ram and the added efficiency and scaling of the SoC. the camera, and fingerprint reader are insanely fast too.
edit: you can see some game performance in this review, he also talks abit about it, which is the same as my experience; the game might load a little slower but once loaded it runs great.

just buy it

I realy must say that i was surprised by this phone.
I got i cheap but i was amazed by the speed and the great camera.
My work phone is an galaxy s7, and i realy think this one gives better images, maybe not in verry low light but in those cases the s7 has alot of noise.
The phone is slippery as hell so buy a case asp ;l
I have had about of phones, iPhone, sony, nexus Samsung... But fore me this is the best one yet.
Tho i hate not having a app drawer, but i use nova launcher anyways..
Cheers
It's worth buying indeed

Yeah, but the OnePlus 3 runs on a SnapDragon 820 SOC. I've noticed that even before the whole SnapDragon 810 overheating problem, that Snapdragon SOCs had a bad habit of overheating pretty easily. So I tend to avoid them when I can.

While the SD820 doesn't suffer from the serious overheating issue of the SD810. It still overheats pretty easily, especially if you are gaming.

Speaking of gaming. While Honor 8's SoC has very good CPU performance for common tasks, according to anandtech benchmarks, the GPU performance, which is used in gaming, trails the competition. For example, the SoC has only four GPU cores, while the Exynos version of Galaxy S7 has 12 similar GPU cores. Having said, the Honor 8 is still a very good value.

It depends on how the person uses their mobile devices. If they don't use it for allot of high intensive tasks, like 3D intensive gaming or recording 4K videos. Then it won't get uncomfortably hot. But I have heard complaints from SGS7 SD820 variant users, saying that it does get uncomfortably hot when used.

That is to be expected as you have already stated the Honor 8's GPU has less GPU cores than that of the Exynos variant of the SGS7. However in real time usage, you won't notice the performance difference between the Honor 8 and the Exynos variant of the SGS7.

this is the only reason I'm skeptical of buying Honor 8 atm.. I game a lot and I need a future-proof gpu for at least 2 years.. and after watching Real racing 3 gaming footage I can see the weakness of this Mali gpu..

That is to be expected as the Mali-T880 MP4 GPU used in the Honor 8 only has 4 cores, while other devices have more GPU cores than the Honor 8. Despite that the Honor 8 does handle gaming pretty well.
I'm ok with the GPU's performance now

Which is faster? Snapdragon 801 (lg-g2) VS snapdragon 625?

I am curious to know which is faster? Our LG g2 or those Xiaomi redmi's phones based on processor power only? Any idea?
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
https://www.quora.com/Which-is-better-a-SD-801-vs-a-650-652-or-a-625
and a quote from reddit that sums it all:
"In the real world, 625 may have better multi-tasking performance (8 cores vs 4 cores on the 801). 801 has better single core performance, but not by much.
625 is also much newer and has a different configuration, uses a better gpu (adreno 510 vs adreno 330) so has native 4k playback, among other refinements you'd expect from a SoC that's 2 years newer."
I love this question, I've always looked at the SD 625 because it has more or less the same performance(sd625 has better advantage in multitasking ofcourse due to the more cores). The gpu is not that much better its more or less the same but it does support Vulkan API by the way if you're interested in that.
Not much games that uses Vulkan currently , the only one I know that uses it is VainGlory.

well if you're thinking of the negative like bloatware and stuff, the least we can expect is it makes it easy for the community ROM developer to make ROMS for it.
Did you know that the Mi A1 is featured on Google's Android One main page? I think that improve their credibility in getting pure Android on that phone
