not putting nougat update on m7 just bad marketing - One (M7) General

HTC would be the most attractive company on the market if they put out a reputation of 4+ system platform upgrades. M7 is the perfect phone to start with. Updating in multiple stages for all M7 stock systems, Lollipop-->Nougat

lol keep dreaming

3 years old device get official n update ? no,, keep dreaming bro

I think you are misreading my post. It is my intention that HTC set a mark higher than the other companies dare to go, creating a reputation of value greater than the other companies, and driving business away from the competition, towards our phones... and my phone is just over 1 mo old. :good: phone battery lasted all day and still over 50% left. No charging for 12 hours

Your M7 is one month old, yes, but tje m7 was released 3 years ago, we as m7 users have to rely on the devs to create updated roms for us.

Nougat requires Vulkan, the GPU in the snapdragon 600 doesnt have it, even the 800/801 doesnt have it, thats why the N5 wont get it either.

Actually, it doesn't really require it as my Moto G3 has an AOSP Nougat ROM.

Apparently, Apple owners keep their devices for 3-4 years, on average. They can reasonably expect software support for the entire time they keep their device.
Even with a lower, less-frequent device turnover than many Androids, Apple manages to sell a lot of phones each year.
With the increased competition for Android users' money, you'd think one of the major Android manufacturers, who are often criticized for copying Apple, would follow Apple's example on the software support front. This would quickly make them stand out from the pack.
I, for one, am never again buying an expensive phone with no guarantees of extended software support. If HTC is done with the M7, then I'm done with them.

Good luck finding an OEM that supports phones over two years. From what I've seen, HTC is one of the better OEMs to support device updates in recent years.
Maybe a Nexus device, but even then the Nexus 5 (released after the m7) isn't getting Nougat either.

Well, there's Apple. Ugh.
It's hard for the voice of "reason" to be heard by manufacturers over the noise of massive sales & media hype. So, those of us that like prompt s/w updates, loud speakers, and 4.7" screens are largely out of luck with Android devices lately.
Nexus/Pixel purchases are one way to to indicate a preference for updates, but it feels a bit like a protest vote - kind of like when the 3rd party candidates aren't much better than the front-runners.

Probably a lot easier for Apple to bring iOS 10 to the Iphone 5 when they "only" have released 9 phones (and half of them simply being a "+" or "S" variant) in the last 5 years.
How much phones did HTC released in 5 years? Over a hundred if you count all the phones from the One series, Desires series, Droid series... Virtually impossible to keep them all updated to the latest version. I think 3 years of official updates for an android flagship is really good. If HTC had the whole android market for them, making only 1 phone/year (and a "+" variant), I'm sure they would also be able to give official update for 5 years.

That's because they've all set the bar so low.
Something has to be done to convince Google, Qualcomm/etc, and the phone manufacturers to work out a solution that makes updates easier. Maybe, as these devices make their way deeper into the corporate/government world (where long-term support is a huge deal), they'll see how it makes business sense for them to do it.
All I can do is support the devices with the longest support cycle.

You should know that the S variants are usually entirely different phones, sharing only the chassis and outer shell, and even thoses have subtle differences. I consider the standard, non S devices from apple as a proof of concept and crowd beta testing (let us all remember the antenagate), and then they release the S to address all the shortcomings of the previous one. And that's the advice i give to all my friends which are tempting on buying a iPhone, you're better with the previous S, than the current Non-S (bang for buck)
Regarding your other statement, that's one of the main problems i find with OEMs these days, from HTC to Samsung to Sony... They flood the market with too many variations of the same device, keep up with multiple trees of them, each with a miriad of products. Like you said, on HTC you get the One, the Desire, the Droid, and probably others. On Samsung, you get the S, the Note, smaller tree but dear God, so many devices.
Consider this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy#Models
or
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_HTC_devices
It get's to the point that unless you are a connoisseur of your OEM, it's very hard to tell if the device A is better than the B, just by their model.
OEMs should focus more, dedicate more R&D time to less devices and produce better hardware, and offer better software support. Hell, the auto industry warranty figured this out several years ago, you get car A with 3Years or 60000miles warranty, and car B with 5y or 100000miles... this factor weights on your decision...

Of course its a stupid idea. Because the phone companies putting out the phones for a penny to end users.
But mostly its stupid cause no matter what you do the phone go flop in water or slide out a pocket between bike spokes and frame at top speed and splat! Time for a new one.(see my new video)
And its stupid cause UFS type game changing upgrades to hardware.
You know it would be nice on the M7 is all.
but could they just give us security patches on the phones? That would be a great thing.

Guys , I'm Sorry to say so ... but , your all wrong because N5 finally received Nougat ( no matter it was not official ) but as it is fully functional ( actually the ones based on r7 ) and everything seems fine , it means that it's not Impossible to have it on our M7 either ... No, definitely not impossible, but I was referring to official support. OEMs tend to support phones for about two years. Anything older requires XDA developers to come to the rescue.

There was a topic here recently where someone said they built Nougat for the m7. He said something to the effect of, "nothing worked," which doesn't reveal how far he got.

Sure thing ... I esp meant the other reply talking about the hardware staff ... But, your telling the Right thing in general ... OEMs leave usually after a year or two ... actually , HTC is MUCH better than Sam ( I own a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ) because my tablet is even much better than Flagships ( according to Hardware and Software ... I even got better Benchmarks with my kernel comparing with Note 3 ) but , It didn't even get a simple TouchWiz M Release which is much more annoying ... also the sources samsung provides are usually less flexible with different ToolChains and Modifications Comparing with HTC ( at least with M7 ) ... I even faced some Odd errors when compiling with a newer TC which is not true with HTC M7's ... long story short , I'm never going to buy a Sam again ... Their phones are dull but pretty dolled up ( at least in my humble Opinion )

HTC finally got their act together?

I remember back at 2012 they said they wouldnt release as much handsets... but low and behold they released alot. I thought it was going to be the HTC One X and One S but no they release alot more varients I think thats what killed them in 2012
rewind a little bit at 2011 and the heck they have alot of phones out in the market. they had no "brand"
I left HTC (i had the amaze) i got sick of the lack of updates and went to the Galaxy Nexus. Now im spoiled with jellybean and possibly the next update this june or november. I might go to Samsung since they try to update their phones in a timely manner
now that the HTC one has risen and decided to focus on the One brand... im thinking about returning to HTC. For one... i miss HTC sense. their widgets is just one of the best in the industry. I didnt need to download more apps on the marketplace. all the widgets i needed was on stock
Im rooting for HTC to get back to be the best manufacturer for sell phones. but please dont churn out phone after phone like samsung did. I dont want to resort to going to samsung
HTC did reduce their lineup in 2012. I don't know what you are talking about. They had the smallest lineup of any (major) phone maker. The HTC X, S, and V. That's it. There were regional variants and a supercharged X+, but there was nothing to dliute or confuse. No clashing products. Each phone was distinctive. Samsung released a million versions of the Galaxy S III in different sizes with different specs. There was a Samsung phone review almost weekly on my goto tech blog. Sony had two or three flagships one after another as well as LG.
I also don't know what you are complaining about really. Samsung and HTC make very different phones. The screens are different. The build is different. The UI is different. All you seem to be concerned about is updates, which frankly I think is silly, especially people complaining about not getting 4.2 when 4.1 is almost exactly the same thing and Android can be hacked and customized with the latest stock if you want. I haven't noticed a change in Android since Froyo 2+ years ago. If you really want the latest updates, your best bet is the LG Nexus 4. No phonemaker's update schedule is gonna be reliable besides a Nexus device and your phone isn't gonna change much even with a new update.
Simply put, the only device that will please you, if you seem to not care about anything else but updates, is the Nexus 4, and whatever the next Nexus will be. So just ignore HTC and Samsung phones altogether. There's nothing to debate about. There is only one phone for you.

And the XL and the Desire X and the Desire C, Desire V. Let's continue with the Droid Incredible 4G LTE, the HTC EVO 4G LTE, the HTC J and by the end of the year the HTC Butterfly.
Okay to be fair, you mentioned regional variants in addition to the One series - but there was definitely also the Desire series.
However...I agree with you Look at this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTC_phones sort it by release and compare 2012 with 2011. A HUGE improvement. They released WAY less devices and especially they mainly concentrated on two brands: One and Desire. The only thing I didn't like were the regional variants with totally different names. They really have to stop that (look at 2011, it was a huge mess). They need a brand that everybody can remember.
I think a Highend-Midrange line (One Series) and a Midrange-Lowrange line (Desire Series) would be optimal for them. However, they need to produce global variants, no extra sauce for the US this time. And that's exactly what they are doing. In addition, they seem to be concentrating on their absolute high end device first and introduce the lower variants later, not like last year where they released 4 devices at the same time (X, XL, S, V).
But we had the same discussion elsewhere. If the One brand sticks and they are successful, I'm sure they will be sticking to 3-6 devices, which is okay in my opinion.
If you don't think the one x, s, v, +, xl, etc. etc. are confusing, you are mistaken. To the average consumer that is confusing. And yes this is different markets and carriers, but how is HTC supposed to even market a phone that has 12 differing variants of their "flagship"? Lol. I think they've learned, at least I would hope so, I mean look at the Samsung galaxy lol.

Marketing, or lack of it is what kills HTC. All the local phone stores near me are all Apple and Samsung inside. Vodafone opened a bigger revamped store in a shopping centre near me a few months a go and there was at least triple the amount Apple and Samsung stands, demo devices, signs in the store compared to HTC. Even Nokia had more.
At least this year they have the Uefa sponsorship and i read somewhere they have a new marketing guy in so hopefully it will be different this year.
The M7/One is clearly a good design, and does all the right things. It will be sad if it fails because of marketing.

Is HTC dead?

LOL I read those same links and came up with a different conclusion than you..........................................
In the short term profits are non existent, but that does not mean they are down and out.
Look at most of the USA's motor manufacturers, they were in the same boat not to long back
It's funny you mention this. I was displaying something at work the other day to a coworker and a few of his friends. After the video was over, someone asked: "What phone is that?" I said "The HTC One M9". He responded with "HTC? Wow I haven't seen anyone with an HTC in a long time." The rest of the group nodded. That's when I realized that HTC is behind in the game, even if their Flagship product continues to out-pace the S6 and G4 in terms of battery life and build quality. When people think of buying a new phone the first thing that pops into their heads are either the iPhone or Samsung. Samsung is a massive company that has been saturating the market with advertisements for years. But even moving passed them, what are some other phone manufacturers that normal, non-tech savvy people would think of. LG is a familiar name. HTC? Not so much.
HTC needs to get its name out there. Its making quality devices and no one seems to care. The M9 wasn't a big departure from the M8 in terms of looks and when people buy phones they want to be noticed. A phone is every bit an upgrade to the person's communication capabilities as it is a social status. For the buyers that do research before purchasing a new device, they probably stumbled upon the slew of articles proclaiming the Snapdragon 810's heat problems. They also probably read about the lackluster camera. While the camera, after many updates, is quite good, it still doesn't have basic features like OIS. Unfortunately, we live in a society where the camera is the most important part of the phone; thanks to Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, etc. People want a phone that they can just point and shoot in any condition and take a good photo. So when I read articles like the ones you posted above, I find myself not really that surprised. HTC has struggled to keep up with the likes of Samsung, LG and Motorola. Period.
As for me, the M9 is nice, but I absolutely cannot wait for the new Nexus 5 to come out this year. The development community here has some nice content but between Sense and the lack of sources coming from HTC, I find myself missing my old N5 more and more. This will be the last HTC device I'll ever own.

Yeah because Apple totally redesign their phones every year and wouldn't possibly ship the same phone again with an S badge on it. People still queue for days down the street for it.
They're in trouble, yes. Even a killer M10 might not be enough because the market is just saturated and the margins on flagship phones are so thin. And they're going to have trouble rolling out a killer phone for the simple reason that nobody can afford to max out the specs anymore and still sell their phones at a profit. I mean, look what happened with the OP2. Even Samsung had to cut corners on the S6 (battery, sdcard slot).
Samsung is surviving on marketing and market share, but when the cheap smartphones from China start really flooding the market, things are going to change for everyone.
Despite the negation of some, HTC is at its darkest hour. If the hero product coming doesn't turns out to be a real hero, I'm afraid the M10 will be the last for them to succeed they need both to be successful, and considering the middle tier and phones like the Redmi Note 2 out there, it's gonna be really hard
In my humble opinion, HTC should try not to compete with Apple and Samsung, but move in a new direction. They should move to a more niche market, keeping the things they are good at and also creating a device that comes rooted, so people who like all the modding can have a device that would truly unique to them or bespoke.
Samsung and Apple are to big now for HTC to compete with, so heading in a completely different directions may save HTC, but the company would be a lot smaller than it is now.

So i install cm on my samsungs. But there was always something that doesnt work as it should. Now with m9 i am very happy again. I would definitely support this copamny in future. I don't know why people are expecting so different design. Not always different is good.

I hope it doesn't lose ground. I know this isn't a popular device amongst the 2015 flagships. Definitely doesn't beat m8 in terms of popularity either. Their main focus is their next phone but hope htc continues to give us timely updates and support for this device. My only concern.
It's sad that my dad even knows this company is struggling and he doesn't know anything about smartphones.
I'm hoping HTC doesn't die either, pretty much the only phone on the market I like due to the sense overlay, don't like Samsung's touchwiz and as for the rest, LG, Sony etc, well you may as well just get a Nexus, and Sony are rubbish for updates in my experience, Cant stand I don't know phones.
M9 is currently available on Virgin Mobile for half the price it was 4 months ago, sorry all those who grabbed it as soon as it came out on a 2 year contract and are paying double :crying: current price is not a good sign, still may grab one however when my contract comes up for renewal in November, maybe it will be a bit cheaper.
HTC are upsetting a lot of people at the moment with them promising updates and then not bothering, M8 just lost its August update, we now have to wait till android M release, and I can really see by the time its ready, they will use the excuse that the device is over 2 years old so no update, so still no Sense 7 unless you go custom rom, if XDA developers can do it, why cant HTC ?
HTC Mini 2 aka M8 mini, only got a year of updates, didn't even get Lollipop, not a very happy Mrs. promised by HTC then cancelled.
M7 updates got the 2 year excuse and left with a buggy Lollipop, which were fixed by Google 4 weeks later in 5.1.
I miss the HTC that made good phones like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfSxWNOG8DQ That video gives me a nostalgia overload.
Looks like htc is digging a bigger hole for the m9 with the a9 being announced in September.

If they do a good job with the initial release that doesn't needs to be true; It will include the latest android version, so no need to worry about system updates probably until android M, it will include the stagefright patches, so no need to worry about that either. If it includes a good camera and gets rid of Snapdragon 810, there won't be a need of constant firmware updates and even if it includes the 810, they've improved it so much so far, so there would be no need to firmware updates, cause they passed for that with the M9 already.
Again that's assuming they're going to announce sometihng at IFA, which is yet uncertain.
Simply put...nowadays phone manufacturers don't need to build the best phone to sell the "best" phone, they just have to make it the most popular phone. People outside of XDA don't buy a phone because it has killer features, or superior build quality, or the best camera; they buy a phone because the marketing department said it was the best phone on the market, plain and simple. If HTC wants to catch up, all they need to do is change the look of the M10 and focus on marketing it heavily. HTC has been building top tier smartphones for some time now and they have lost the market game to Samsung and Apple every year.
And also, don't think for a minute that other manufacturers will not pay for negative press on competing phones. They know that public perception is what drives public reception. I am quite certain that Samsung "influenced" atleast a few of the bad review that the M9 received. I am the proud owner of an M9 and although it hasn't been the best phone that I have ever owned, it is FAR from as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be; but if you read the reviews and base your phone decision off of them, you would think the M9 was a piece of junk to be avoided.
All HTC needs to do is figure out some hip gimmicks and marketing (not for us, but for the public), and they will be just fine.
Htc is for people who don't want to go with the sheep of the phone world, plus once you've had a decent high end htc device you'll always be looking back if you switch to let's say a Samsung or an apple device. They're always really close to getting it perfect, this time round it's obviously the camera which is still good but you need to tweak it a bit, personally I'd always chose htc, they're great phones, especially since the m7.
In terms of overall sales, no they're not doing as well as Samsung and apple, bare in mind though that Apple and samsung sell lots of other devices besides phones, htc do not. A fresh approach needs to happen in terms of marketing, and a thoroughly tested flagship with every angle covered, plus I don't think it's necessary for them to release several phones per year. A flag ship and a budget phone would suffice, allowing them to optimise the devices properly. Having an E an E+ an m9 and an m9+ with desires popping up all over the place for me is far too much.
Time will tell, but I don't think they're down and out.
This is my sixth HTC phone and still happy with it. Sad though they can't keep up with the telecom market nowadays.. I would say HTC ain't dead, but it had its better days. Hopefully they strike back with a stunning 2016 flagship. They really deserve a better position or either everybody's attention like last year with the m8 in my opinion

htc's future?

There's an awful lot of talk floating around various tech sites about htc and its bleak future. I'm hearing they won't even forecast the financial statistics anymore. I'm not sure I buy into all of this but it does have me rethinking my loyalty to them and if I should return my newly purchased m9. Part of me has no idea why if they are in soo much trouble they would release the a9 and promise nexus like fast updates. I hope this won't affect the m9 getting Android 6.0. That's my biggest concern.
What do you guys think?
I think HTC might make it another year before they're on the cliff of either collapsing or being bought out by Asus, Google, etc.

If true it still brings in question keeping or continuing to buy their products. I highly doubt Google will buy them. Lg, Asus maybe.

That's my biggest concern.

no worries the M9 is getting MM and the M10 is coming, whatever happens to HTC it wont happen before end of next year
the M9 is fine and the A9 is good sign of the improvements the M9 will get on MM, such as the RAW editor in the gallery
I'm really looking forward to see my M9 with 6.0.
If it will be like on the A9 (more "google" and less "sense") i think that after 3 years i'll have to say goodbye to htc...
HTC has a turnover of $1.3 billion and a net profit of $11 million in Q1 of 2015,doesn't sound like a company on the verge of folding ?...don't believe everything you hear in the media !!

no we already have screenshot leaks from Football and confirmation from HTC, the M8 and M9 will retain full Sense, they confirmed the A9 gallery / camera app features to be coming to other flagships though
With the camera kinks worked out, it's reasonable to anticipate AOSP ROMs being developed for the M9. If those take off, we shouldn't have any issue with the M9 becoming abandonware.
For those of us who are not developers, we can support them through patience, encouragement and financial support.
Nah HTC will be around for years to come, just look at blackberry for crying out loud they haven't had a good phone in years, even nokia took over a decade to die out and even now they're still making niche phones, HTC will continue i have no doubt.
Think about the competition, Apple and Samsung, they're mega giants, apple because they make dumb phones for dumb people and samsung because they make everything for everyone.
There's no comparison between the companies but to say that they're down and out is an overstatement.

Android Oreo is coming soon (c)tm

Many of us are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Oreo to our beloved Note 5 and it's on it's way. There is already an early beta build of it for the S6 based on a new branch of LOS15 I believe. It still has a few bugs but it's bootable a few things don't yet work but the basic's are there. It can only be a matter of time before a Note 5 dev picks it up and creates a build for us.
Have patience guys we should be enjoying a little Oreo goodness soon.
My source for this news is here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nt/g92xx-android-o-samsung-galaxy-s6-t3663901
I just wish it wasn't Samsung based.
I read on samobile that the note 5 isn't getting Android 8.
Sent from my GT-N5120 using Tapatalk
No word officially from Samsung yet but it is likely that Samobile is correct and we wont be getting an Oreo upgrade from Samsung. While that is very disappointing it's not the end of the road for the Note 5. I'm sure there will be rom's ported from devices that do get upgrades and source built rom's too. Samsung does not care about us but luckily for us XDA has teams of talented developers who do care. One way or other we will be enjoying Oreo goodness we just need to be patient till it happens.
For reference.

Note 5 already gone through two major OS update. so if not mistaken, we will miss the Oreo update. Our only hope is custom rom porting.

Which is either unlikely or very unstable given the state of AOSP development for our devices

8.0 is a big deal (compared to prev updates) battery wise, Data and managing apps is much better.
My main thing is the battery which has almost doubled, specially on standby bringing new life to this old phone I didn't care for
Anyone else bothered that a barely 2 year old phone is getting ditched by Samsung? Are we going to just accept companies obsoleting phones after 2 years? I'm not one for ROMs and rooting really so I don't want to hear about how Oreo is coming in that sense to the Note 5. Samsung should put Oreo together and release it for the Note 5. And if they can't then I'm not buying Samsung anymore. I don't care if they don't care. Phones should have a minimum of 5 year support at least for security updates. No reason why the Note 5 can't handle Oreo.

I agree whole heartedly with what your saying there phones n tablets etc should get more than 2 years support before being abandoned. The Note 5 is more than capable of running Oreo without a problem. But sadly Samsung will never give it to us we will now only get security updates no further OS updates.
Samsung's short sighted view is if u want the latest android OS buy a new phone every 2 years to get it. Yes I know they are in the business to make money but seriously they need to understand that us regular customers can't afford to replace perfectly good devices every couple of years and their corporate customers are unlikely to do so either.
I read somewhere that Samsung wants to get more of the corporate and government contracts that Apple enjoys for themselves and become as rich as Apple.
But Apple not only has nice hardware and the security that corporations and governments want they also support their devices for 4-5 years and that is a big factor in that market as well as the consumer market.
Until the high up's in Samsung grasp that concept and treat all it's customers better they will never have as much success as Apple enjoys. They seem content with things as they are and not caring a damn how many customers they upset and cause to stop buying their products because for every customer who leaves them there are millions more to replace them. The concept of gaining more customers while keeping existing customers happy by treating them right seems to be an alien concept to Samsung. Their attitude is we WILL do whatever we want in the pursuit of profit and to hell with those who don't like it there are many more to replace you.
I too have decided that I am no longer prepared to be treated like this by Samsung and my Note 5 will be the last product of theirs i buy. The sad thing is they build great hardware but their attitude towards customers seriously sucks and their short sighted profit model is unlikely to change any time soon.

Funny you should pick on Samsung out of all of the Android manufacturers; nearly all of them support their devices for only two years, even Google. So before you start complaining about how profit-greedy a company is, just remember that the company that *owns* Android doesn't even care to offer support for older devices. Also laughable that Google should make fun of Apple for ditching the headphone jack and look what they're doing with the Pixel 2. Pick a manufacturer, any manufacturer. You're not going to get the support you're looking for unless you switch to Apple.

You are correct most manufacturers do the same things but Samsung has reached the position of being the largest supplier of android phones on the planet and from that position of strength they lead and influence all the smaller players bellow them. If Samsung began to change it's attitude towards customers and treated them better then many of the smaller players would follow.
As for Google they don't make hardware only software the phones bearing the Google name are made by other phone manufacturers and again it's those manufacturers who dictate and control how long a phone is supported. Now Google could use it's licencing muscle to make the manufacturers behave better towards their customers and give better support but I don't know why they don't.
Android is open source true but the Android logo and Android OS version logo's are not they are copyright of Google and if any manufacturer wants to sell a phone with android on it they must comply with licencing terms and conditions set by Google. Now some of those conditions could be that manufacturers must give better support and for longer or that they must make available to the development communities the information needed to carry on support when the manufacturer no longer wants to do so. They could release information on things like drivers needed to interface with the hardware or better compatibility with the SOC's. No one is asking for the source codes to their whiz bang UI skins many don't like them and we certainly don't need them.
Google could use their position to make things better for everyone but I really don't know why they don't.

I know you're not talking directly to me but the reason I chimed in on this thread is because I have a Samsung. I've also had LG too and they're in the same boat with not updating their phones. Also One Plus and Motorola. I call all of them out but particularly focused on Samsung since I own a Note 5. That's all.
Yeah it sucks..I own a note 8... Really it's not a big update. They made a great phone with the note 5.

Dang really? Note 8 looks awesome. You're saying I'm not missing much by having a 5 still?
It's a nice phone. But the camera isn't better.. The front camera is worse in my opinion. Good screen and the size isn't much different. Slimmer but taller. Speed wise they are the same. Note 5 is just as snappy and fluid as the note 8

[poll] Xiaomi A2 Future, is it dead or promising

So i bought this phone since it released in my country, i bought the 6Gb ram version and i was too excited about, Android one phone with great specs according to the price, but i am a lil bit disappointed right now,
The update releases is a bit confusing as we can see what's happening with pie updates.
The development is too slow as there no working twrp and related stuff.
Forgive my ignorance as coming from HTC M8 with its big development from its early stages , this phone disappointed me, but dont get me wrong i am happy with the phone regarding its battery life what annoying me a bit but the fast charger make it up to me.
So based on ur experience guys what do u expect guys and is the fourms going to be on fire soon or is it going to be like that all along ?
its going to be alive for sure, but you won't get first-class support, also for sure. this phone is good for people who are on a budget yet want to have a fairly up-to-date software (including security updates) and don't expect pixel-level support. If you are one of these people, A2 is probably one of the best phones you can get. But if you expect a pixel-level support then you should probably go buy pixel
It will get better, but don't expect anywhere near the support your old phone had, that was a flagship and a very successful one, I don't I've tried a quarter of the roms that were available for my m7
Yu are being given more than just descent specs for a more than descent price but no updates should be fast like google pixel ... well not gonna happen
Software r&d is not cheap as yu can see many here on xda develop on in there spare time and with donations and i dont think even though xiaomi have great revenue and sales they are yet ready to speed up the process (FOR ME UPDATES ARE ALREADY FAST ENOUGH EVEN NOW BETTER THAN MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 THAT WAS WORTH 49999 rs)
Moral of the story is = just because yu are given good hardware at a fine price dont expect them to give yu fast software support too ( only if yu have a pixel )
Otherwise apple phones get ios for really long time( enjoy there new emoji in every damn update )

Mates i didn't expect pixel level of support at all, it just i didnt think Android One phone would get low development and update like that,
I can run Android pie on my M8 which pretty old phone now, but u cant run it on my 2018 Android one device, does that make any sense to you mates ??
On the other hand pocophone got it's official TWRP and keep being updated while the price difference is t that much though.

Why the hell are yu guys quoting me when i am making the exact same point that yu made
This is a budget phone not pixel lile ( COMPARED TO MY S7 JUST TO MAKE A POINT and even if my s7 is a flagship it gets security patches at end of each month whereas this MI A2 Gets updated on start of each month and that too sometimes more than one update )
I used to use an OPO which had and to a certain extent still has a lively developer scene (It's been a few months since the first Pie popped in the forums for it).
I don't neither expect nor foresee that sort of activity over here. This is a mid-range budget phone.
Then again, at least, bootloader unlock is hassle free.

I came from an OPO myself. And kind of disappointed with lack of development for now. It's a new phone and hopefully it'll pick up. It's a good phone don't get me but it's a "meh" or "alright" phone after a few weeks. Definitely a forgettable phone. Feel like I should've gone pocophone fone (1)
