DOLBY ATMOS - what is use of this app and how to turn it ON while listening to music? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I use PowerAmp to play all my music. I found Dolby Atmos app on my Axon 7. But I could not turn it ON while my Poweramp player is playing. Also what is use of Dolby Atmos and how it works ?

Atmos is just a software eq. You can just stick with PowerAmp eq if you want. If you have FLAC music and want to use the hi-fi DAC, you will have to use the ZTE music app. The DAC doesn't work outside of the app from what I can tell.

I'm pretty sure you can if you enable MusicFX in the Advanced Tweaks

That's software equalizer. Hi-fi DAC is hardware component.

Checking MusicFX means it will use the phone's built-in EQ which is the Dolby Atmos one which should use the Hi-Fi DAC.
EDIT: Ok I guess I was wrong, but it is possible to use the Hi-Fi DAC with Poweramp 3.0 Alpha! See HERE

Poweramp Alpha does work with Dolby Atmos. You just need to put Poweramp in Hi Res Audio Output through the settings.

Nope, just have the installed version from the Play Store. I'll get the alpha, thanks for the response.

Am I the only one that can't get the tracks to be listed in listed order in the stock music app? No matter what I do or which section I choose to view the tracks, they're always listed alphabetically.

Got burned by Lenovo's A10-70 tablet that also have implemented Dolby ATMOS. That tablet sound will get screwed up every time I loaded Poweramp normal Play Store version. Even disable Direct Volume Control in Poweramp does not help. Please tell me if both normal and alpha version of Poweramp works fine with this phone since I am very much interested. I am also not familiar with ZTE software update policy. Not sure if it will get updated as often and as long like Google Nexus phones.

Shuttle (and Shuttle+) work well with Dolby Atoms, just disable the built in EQ.
DON'T use "n7 Player" - Before their update, it messed up Dolby and I had to reset my phone twice (a 3rd time was my fault). After their latest update, it renders Dolby Atoms useless and when you try to enable it, it restarts the phone (had to reset my phone twice). Thanks to n7 (my favorite player) not playing well with Dolby Atmos, I've had to reset my phone a total of 5 times since getting it 3 weeks ago.

Headset HiFi and Dolby Atmos works with my music player of choice as well: Clean Music. Probably because it's just a simple GUI (entire player is less than 1MB) and leaves all the processing to the system.

Okay apart from Poweramp and builtin music player - what are other good options to make use of best available audio on board with Axon 7 ?

Well Spotify seems to work well for me. It probably doesn't use the Hi-Fi chip but with Dolby enabled the sound is very nice.

Call me stupid or lazy but the volume is tiny compared to my old LG G2. I have to turn it all the way up to 70%. Is this the case for you guys?

Hello
I tried to use poweramp, but this isn´t dolby Atmos enabled, but, I ´m using Jetaudio plus... and this works PERFECT, remember that this sound app was designed for use in high -end mp3 players ( like cowon), and i can say with full confidence that works great with dolby atmos, boosting very well the music in the speakersphone, in the bluetooth car stereo and headphones ( wired and wireless)... this app bringing bass optimization ( in the original speakersphone the bass is very poor), let me know your experience, i´ll try to help

Please don't recommend warez. Against XDA rules. Getting paid apps for free is warez.

i love when someone expresses gratitude with an aid. The post was edited, It was with pleasure!

Someone on the Zte forums said you need to disable direct volume control and BT direct volume control in the settings. In order to get power amp to work with Dolby.
And I can confirm that I am able to use the hifi setting and Dolby with Tidal. Which actually makes the music sound better to me than my dp-x1 onkyo player, which makes me mad cause that thing cost me 800$ lol

I Need A Better Audio Booster

I need a better audio booster for use with my XMI X II Mini speaker, the HD2 isn't quite loud enough, it's leaving the speaker with a lot of headroom.
I have been using the WOW STS HD cab, but I'm finding it hard to boost all frequencies uniformly with it.
Can the built in audio booster be tweaked or is there another program out there that i could make use of?
try the built-in equalizer in pocket player from conduits, maybe it will fit your requirements?

No improvement, seems worse (volume wise) than standard player with audio boost and WOW SRS HD (or even without this).
Edit: Just realised i can use WOW SRS HD with it.
This is still just about on part with standard audio booster i think, will experiment more.
Still would like away to tweak the standard audio booster or WOW SRS HD or an alternative method of boosting audio volume for use with speaker.
Earphones are not a problem (they are loud enough) and i don't mind the standard speaker for ring tones etc...
go the heavy way and starte htc audio booster, pocket player with critical - extreme settings and full bass + bass equalizer preset and srs, i think THAT shoudl be enough xD
for me windows mobile got awsome sound quality, but i still changed to cowon s9 mp

Oh yeah, just realised that audio booster works outside of HTC music player if you configure it in it's standalone app.
How do i configure pocket player to have critical extreme settings?
Edit: I'm just going to assume you meant max settings on the equalizer.
would need to install it again, so dont know exactly, but there are settings like this, just search xD
but its not the best thing of the pocketplayer.. what gives u awsome sound are the DSP plugins + the equalizer -> activate multi DSP in settings and choose surround sound and the bass DSP, maybe something else too, then go to the equalizer and make an awsome own equalizer, i would say with high deeps and ups
then start SRS with a good setting..
and htc Audio booster with like the same equalizer setting as the pocketplayer...
and now go search .flac songs, cause mp3 is to bad for this XD i dont know if it will still sound well after so much things xD..

Well, couldn't find extreme-critical anywhere, maybe it was on an older version.
I just realised that the equalizer which has a soft preamp built in wasn't actually enabled though, it has the word enabled in a list in settings, which made me thought i was enabled, but you actually need to press that and then there will be a tick next to it, there's no box for a tick or anything, nothing obvious that would have given that away.
Anyway I'm all set now, the preamp and equalizer is very loud even without WOW SRS HD.
i was using version 4.0.. >.<
but yea, then its ok^^ already thought what crazy human u are when pocketplayer isnt enough for u xD.. even for me it was enough

Improving sound quality, HD music players with lockscreen support

[ I've decided to rewrite the original description to make it more like a guide (since already I've found few interesting things ]
P8 Lite is quite ok in terms of hardware to make it nice music player. However comparing to old and rusty Samsung Galaxy Ace2 its sound quality is worse.
According to the tests (and hours of tests/comparisons I performed with two different high quality headphones) P8 Lite is only slightly worse but its main issues are significant stereo crosstalk and strangely boosted parts of middle tones.
http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_p8lite-review-1280p7.php
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_ace_2-review-786p5.php
While EMUI 4.0 update introduces DTS which can be enabled and helps in terms of crosstalk it does very strange thing - boosts bass and treble but decreases some middle tones thus some tracks appear to sound kind of awkward and unacceptable.
Another thing is I wanted to also benefit from the HUAWEI lockscreen (I have linked my phone with corporate account which enforced me to have the pin lock on the huawei lockscreen and because of this - having additional lockscreen was not an option for me).
Other things to be considered while trying to find a good player were: folder play (I have my stuff well organized), nice widgets, good audio quality, ui that won't make me wanna throw the phone out of the window while using it
To keep the description clean I would mention only players which are significantly better and other tweaks I've used to make the audio quality better (actually - given the hardware limitations of P8 Lite - to be as close to Ace2 as possible).
Test base:
P8Lite with Marshmallow 6.0 Stock EMUI 4.0 B564
Players which performed very well in terms of quality without any hacks/flashes/blackmagic
- MyPlayer++ (lots of configuration options in terms of audio quality, nice widgets, no huawei lockscreen support) http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-myplayer-lightweight-music-player-t2892233
- DroidSound-E (only if DTS was enabled, may also be true for other music players based on BASS library, awful widget (need thirdparty widget like PlugInMusic Player), no huawei lockscren support) https://github.com/droidmjt/Droidsound
- PowerAMP beta (as suggested by @Zero_Rik) (audio quality and configuration capabilities comparable to MyPlayer++, nice widgets (configurable), HUAWEI LOCKSCREEN SUPPORT (hurray!) http://forum.powerampapp.com/index.php?/forum/18-poweramp-v3-testing/
Players which I don't like but do have huawei lockscreen support:
- Huawei Music Player (you didn't expect this one? )
- Google Play Music
After playing around with various players still I was unhappy with the sound quality (although PowerAMP at least apart from good overal quality introduced the lockscreen support). Also I wanted the sound to be similar across all applications therefore I did not want to use PowerAMPs equalizer.
Solution #1 - Dolby Atmos ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/themes-apps/dolby-dolby-atmos-t3305789 )
Instalation was simple (flashing two packages in a row) but required recovery to be exchanged from stock to TWRP.
Once installed Dolby Atmos was working more or less fine but did not work in any way possible with PowerAMP.
Uninstallation is possible by flashing third package. Worked nice though for DroidSound-E
Solution #2 - DSP Manager from CyanogenMod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...alizer-dsp-manager-lollipop-versions-t3106546 )
Installation was simple (again two packages). No straightforward uninstall (so I've made OS backup in TWRP).
This time audio quality was really really (tested in DroidSound-E and PowerAMP)
Solution #3 - Viper4Droid (did not test this one but people say its good
Please note that flashing another recovery over existing (installing TWRP) will prevent you from updating system to any further updates (unless you reflash your original stock recovery partition).
Also worth noting that custom DSP (Atmos or DSP Manager from CM or Viper4Droid) may not work for some music players!
Or easly use Beta programm of of Poweramp

Thanks for the hint. Although it is a partial answer to my question I'll take a look on PowerAmp Beta (I remember to have some issues with PowerAmp trial).
It also does not cover the problem with Huawei lockscreen support but anyway worth checking at least in terms of the audio quality.
Edit [few minutes later] : Well... actually it does the job! THANKS! PowerAmp Beta seems to be quite a decent choice.
Most of the stuff I wanted is working flawlessly. The difference between P8Lite now+PowerAmp AND my old Ace2 is now less noticeable.
And furthermore - this BETA PowerAmp uses the EMUI lockscreen!!!
Edit [few hours of tests later]: PowerAMP seems to be so far the best choice in terms of usability and audio quality. Unfortunately still Ace2 sounds a bit (but easily noticeable) better (at least with same headphones attached). This seems to be hardware related (as per the gsmarena tests) and nothing more can be done here. Anyway - the sound quality with PowerAMP can be really good.
not a lot of music player support lockscreen on our p8lite... to name a few that works are Default Music Player, Google PlayMusic (they both support defult lockscreen controls) and MusixMatch (it has its own lockscreen control)..
I guess it shows the lockscreen controls of only those music player ( that has its own lockscreen control ) ...
P.S. MusixMatch is quite good of an option too... It has its own equalizer, lockscreen controls and quite decent sound quality too

My goal was to find something which work with Huawei LockScreen as I don't need to have two lockscreens enabled (and due to the company policy enforced on my mobile I need to have password set on Huawei LockScreen so its pointless to have two separate lockscreens
Anyway - if it works for anyone else why not to try ones with separate lockscreens and disable the Huawei one?
I've just installed TWRP and flashed Dolby Atmos ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/themes-apps/dolby-dolby-atmos-t3305789 ).
With DTS enabled, Surround OFF, Volume Leveler OFF, manualy made preset in equalizer I was able to achieve quite good audio quality in any music player now.
...unforunately this setup does not work properly with PowerAMP Beta....... (PowerAMP seems to output directly audio instead of using external equalizer even though the "MusicFX" is enabled in PowerAMP and its configuration open properly Dolby Atmos).

Yes I have. V4A also known as Viper 4 Android is supported by our device (at least it worked for me. NO GUARANTEE). It works about the same as Dolby Atmos. Its as usual a personal preference thingy, just like some people enjoy a Playstation and others the Xbox.
Besides that there are other packs out here on XDA that might work but they have not been explicitly tested or anything. Go and use the search if you want to experiment a little but remember, ALWAYS Backup all your stuff.

Yes I did but only with the chinese Version. That also has been with the old Android (5.1.1). With the european version of the music player it had issues and didnt do anything to the sound.
It also worked with Google Play Music, Spotify, Phonograph and the HTC Stock Music app that I am using now on 6.0 with Dolby Atmos.
Dolby Atmos has always been my goto software because it worked with all tested versions by me and honestly I have been through many versions on the P8 Lite.

Improve Audio?

The one thing that I really dislike on the LG G6 (LG-LS993) is the audio. It has a "tinny" sound. Is anyone aware of any way to improve that? I'm thinking of software solutions. I know I can use my ear buds or my Blue-Tooth speaker system but there are times when that isn't practical; such as showing a video to someone else. Thanks.
Have you tried : jetAudio HD Music Player or VLC Player???
If all of your music is downloaded into your phone into the file system there is an app called Poweramp in the Play Store..... It is amazing it's three bucks but you can have a three-week trial I have found it has Soothed me from not being able to have viper audio being that we are stuck without root. The only downfall is this EQ and music player system is for everything in your library or file system but the tweaks are great and it's full of features..... I just returned my G6 for a v30 plus it works on both.
We may be in the same boat I want something that works with YouTube and Google play music

I lied I just got it working with Google Play Music there's a ton of settings in it and it's sounding amazing you should try it out it's a free trial I attached a picture of what it looks like that way you don't have to pay if you don't like it but my car has garbage speakers and it really helps my Bluetooth Loud areas
There are game settings in the menu you can hike up and then the 7-band EQ the first bar all the way to the left is actually pre app control not EQ lol!
If you try it out and have any questions hit me up but I think this app works great I'm going to try and get it going with you tube. And if you like Last FM there is special settings for that app by itself
If you're a fan of Google Play music only I found this version of Dolby Digital just download and install it but do not open the app reboot your phone and install Google Play Music if Google play music is already installed then after you go through the reboot open Google Play Music go to the menu settings hit refresh then scroll down for equalizer and the Dolby app will open right up.....quite a few settings in it

Music equaliser not working..same quality of music even turning on music equaliser

I am facing this issue since the day before i updated to android 10...
The built-in equaliser which can be found in play music and other music platform does not do its job (i.e) there is no bass ...or surround sound in music even using earphones ...
Also installed 3rd party equalisers from playstore , they also don't work ..
Yes.. as Giri said no EQ working after android 10 uggrade.. and I even want to know if it makes amy sense installing Dolby Atmos on this phone ( Unrooted)
EQ works on some apps like spotify for me. But not on other apps like Canaree Music Player.
