[Solved] MTP USB Configuration Problem w/ Win 7 - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

Got this strange problem. Every time when I connect G4 with my Win7 PC via USB, the "Moto G(4)" icon shows up but it is empty under it. I will have to go to the Developer options to click on MTP again (even it is already set to MTP) to show the internal storage. This is really annoying extra step. Anyone knows what is the problem and how to fix it? Thanks.
[Update] Finally got it worked by following this thread:

That setting in the developer options doesn't do anything. Every time you plug it in, it will default to charging and you have to click MTP in the notification. It was that way in the G3 also.

This is really annoying. Is there anyway to change it defaulted to MTP?

Not that I know of. I've done it so often on the G3 and now the G4 that it's habit.

OK, I didn't know you were rooted.

It is a new security feature of Android since lolipop. It is to prevent malware on your pc targeting android connected phones. So that if you were charging it couldn't switch to connect storage without explicit approval on the phone itself.

[SOLVED] Why does my SD card mount even in "Charge Mode"

Everytime I connect my phone via USB cable to my PC it mounts the SD card in USB Storage mode.
Its not a deal breaker but definitely can be an inconvenience when trying to use the phone while charging on a PC (which is how I use my phone at work).
Anyone else run into and find a fix for this?
I kinda remember seeing someone mention a weird solution to a similar problem (maybe regarding PC charging?) that entailed changing the screen timeout.
Phone Info:
Droid 2
ROM: Fission 1.1 (installed last night over a freshly SBF-ed phone)
I see at least one other person is experiencing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8747858&postcount=56
Tried swapping out SD card for a freshly formatted one and still seeing the same issue. So I'm going to rule out the SD card being at fault.

AngDroid, part of the development team (Team DeFuse), has asked that bugs in regards to the fission rom be posted at Droid Life. It is hard for the team to manage multiple forums. Please make a post here :http://forum.droid-life.com/viewforum.php?f=61&sid=799e04fe62c2af5a7682b052087fe5aa and you will have a greater chance at getting a resolution.
I had this problem this weekend, but I'm running the stock ROM.
Some googling didn't turn up much, other than that certain programs would cause this, none of which I had. If i had the original link I'd post it. I think i read a lot about it on the Incredible forums here.. maybe?
Anyway, the only thing I had changed recently was installing Winamp.
It turned out that it was indeed Winamp. Uninstalled it and all works fine now.
Grrr! Wish I had checked this sooner. I rolled back to a nandroid backup. I was getting so fed up with it not working correctly. Glad to know it wasn't the Fission ROM. Though I kinda didn't think it was since I was having that issue even before going from the beta to 1.1.
Oh well, guess I'll try it again later. Tired of going through settings for apps. For now.
Thanks for the response, Lithoss.
Wonder if the winamp team knows their app prevents charging the Droid 2 via PC? It's a great app otherwise.

No problem.
I dont think it prevents charging.... it just mounts it too when it shouldn't.
I emailed them about it through the link in the market.. so if they read their email they should know
You're right. It does charge properly. It doesn't allow access to SD card resources though. Which means no podcasts while hooked up via USB. Deal breaker!
Hope they get it figured out soon. That was a pretty sweet interface. I liked it better than cubed (^3).

This is toggleable behavior. Check the settings in winamp and you will see something to the effect of automatically mount SD card when connected. If you uncheck that, it shouldn't do it...
@natez0r - Thanks for the explanation. Guess this time it really is a feature and not a bug!
Guess I'll give winamp another shot since that "feature" can be turned off.

If I were to guess, it would be for making it easier to sync with winamp when you plug the phone into your computer. DoubleTwist also has this option, but i feel like it is more of a nuisance than anything.

[Q] n136+USB=reboot *small update*

Just turned up a new "glitch".
SD install of N136 was working very well for the last day.
When I connected the USB cable to my computer (Vista 32bit) my Nook showed the connection on the taskbar (indicating debugging enabled as well).
When I "turn on USB storage" , I get the warning dialog box. After confirming my selection I get the rotating "wait" for about 20 seconds and then a very quick reboot (less than 6 seconds in duration).
N133 did not have this issue.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks!
Dan
NEW* I just "downgraded" to n131 and all is back to normal. I'll work my way up through the builds until I find the problem....
i'm on XP sp3
it didn't happen to me.
can mount without rebooting.

I checked in the changelog for the pending encore n137, and there's nothing there related to USB.
I'll be making up a new install on another SD and see if I get the same result.

Nexus 4 USB-Debugging doesn't work

Hi Guys,
I used the new Nexus 4 Toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
As I unfortunately dont have 10 Posts, I cant ask in this thread, so I hope it's ok to ask here.
I installed the drivers with USB-Debugging (as before for my galaxy nexus) and unlocked the bootloader.
So far everything went normal and good!
Then I wanted to root the system. It was said that I've to enable USB-Debugging again and the system will reboot.
But then :
I tap on "Enable USB-Debugging" and I'm asked If im sure. After this, nothing happens. Usually I see a information-icon, that usb-debugging is enabled in the taskbar.
This icon is now missing. And im completly not able to connect to phone via PC and use ADB.
Im slightly desperated, as anything I could do requires ADB/USB-Debugging.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks in advance.
Does your phone show up as MTP storage OK?
I remember my One X decided to cease all USB activity except charging once, a reboot sorted it.
The USB debugging icon is a little jelly bean as per the attached screenshot.
thanks for your reply.
I dont remember If it was shown as MPT-Storage - will check this immediately after work
THe Jelly-Bean-Icon showed up before, when used the toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
I also rebooted the phone several times
Ok, now everything seems to be identified correctly, again. Very strange.
Maybe the PC needed to be restarted.
Sorry for this post. It can be closed.
Thank you!
Were you able to resolve the problem?
I actually have the same problem also my Nexus 4 is getting very hot and the battery is drain within 4 hours from 100% to ~10% (about 400-800mA consumption).
All stock - I've already contacted the google support but now are holidays.

I've got the same problem, except my device is not loading until 100%. It gets really hot while not doing anything and it's empty in about 3 hours.
I figured out that the Nexus is only charged via "USB" although it's plugged in the charger.
Now my device is charging up until 100% but it still gets hot, is empty in about 5 hours and if I connect it in fastboot mode my laptop says that the drivers are not installed properly even though I installed the naked drivers. Re-installing the drivers does not work either, it says that my laptop already had the right drivers installed. And when I connect my device when it's booted it is not recognized at all and does not show up in the device manager. I tried three other cables... Sounds like an USB brick, right?

My battery life got a lot better with the new Franco kernel but the USB-debugging is just gone. I was wondering if maybe one of the recovery developers could help here. The USB brick solution for the HTC Desire was via Cyanogenmod. But I don't think that they know the solution since it isn't a very common problem as it seems...

Connected as installer/USB connection action

This is in other phones forums also. Can anyone come up with a solution for this? I absolutely do not want my phone "connecting as installer" when I plug it into my computer. I tried the option in 8#0808# and selecting MTP + ADB, but it doesn't survive a reboot.
Haaaalp.

I have been having this happen too. I wonder if the Root caused that to glitch to where it won't save as a MTP, but as an Installer...
I would like this fixed too, maybe even with the option to default to USB 3. Is it only our phone model with verizon crap doing this, or is it all models?
I imagine someone could at least make an xposed module to do this.

It is only ours, and it is really pissing me off too. I deleted the .iso file /system/etc and it still keeps doing it. Searched the forum, the entire internet too and no good answer that works for our phone. Someone please PM me if you figure out a way. Might have to be a smali edit
Guess no one has looked into this.

Keep USB Debugging on

Is there any possible way to keep USB debugging on while being in MTP mode...I don't really care how hacky it is. That option keeps cutting off and acting stupid. There must be a way to keep it on at all times.
Developer options, turn on USB debugging. If it turns itself off, you have bigger problems to worry about.

USB debugging will not turn itself off once turned on. IF that is the case here then you have a significant problem with your software.

No. Did you read the solution? Neither allowed permission to the PC they used. There is a picture shown in one of your links that shows the little window that pops up. That is what you need to look for. If it doesn't show up, you must clear the recent attached items. I use driver booster, so I'm not sure how to do so otherwise. When you turn on your USB debugging it ALWAYS works in mtp mode, so look for that window that pops up once your program requests it.
Sorry, I was bit aggravated since this is holding up my work, but let me explain. This computer has already been allowed. Unless I have 'Allow USB debugging only in charge mode' or 'Allows prompt when connecting to USB' turned on, I cant get USB debugging to stay on. I'd like to default to MTP (so it doesn't prompt me) while using adb (so I have to allow debugging outside of charge mode)...I guess I'll be fine with the prompt...Just like to know if it's possible.
I do know from my own use that if you optimize the phone through phone manager, debugging will be turned off.
