Keep USB Debugging on - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Is there any possible way to keep USB debugging on while being in MTP mode...I don't really care how hacky it is. That option keeps cutting off and acting stupid. There must be a way to keep it on at all times.

Developer options, turn on USB debugging. If it turns itself off, you have bigger problems to worry about.

USB debugging will not turn itself off once turned on. IF that is the case here then you have a significant problem with your software.

So why have I read this is typical of Honor phones?

So is it typical behavior or not? Regardless of the answer how do I fix it?

No. Did you read the solution? Neither allowed permission to the PC they used. There is a picture shown in one of your links that shows the little window that pops up. That is what you need to look for. If it doesn't show up, you must clear the recent attached items. I use driver booster, so I'm not sure how to do so otherwise. When you turn on your USB debugging it ALWAYS works in mtp mode, so look for that window that pops up once your program requests it.

Sorry, I was bit aggravated since this is holding up my work, but let me explain. This computer has already been allowed. Unless I have 'Allow USB debugging only in charge mode' or 'Allows prompt when connecting to USB' turned on, I cant get USB debugging to stay on. I'd like to default to MTP (so it doesn't prompt me) while using adb (so I have to allow debugging outside of charge mode)...I guess I'll be fine with the prompt...Just like to know if it's possible.

I do know from my own use that if you optimize the phone through phone manager, debugging will be turned off.

I haven't found a way to link them. Everytime I restart my phone debugging turns off. I guess it's an EMUI limitation.

Well this is my config as of now. I've tried all the possible combinations but I can never get USB debugging to survive a reboot, but then again I never really dwelled into it since I hardly ever use it.
Thanks for the help though!

This is a common problem with EMUI. The solution, keep toggling it until it sticks.

Vibrant NOT Recognized.

I've finally figured out how to fix my Vibrant after the OTA disaster, however only thing is that even after installing the latest drivers it still won't recognize my phone. When I plug it in it says "Gadget". I don't know whats wrong.

Nexus 4 USB-Debugging doesn't work

Hi Guys,
I used the new Nexus 4 Toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
As I unfortunately dont have 10 Posts, I cant ask in this thread, so I hope it's ok to ask here.
I installed the drivers with USB-Debugging (as before for my galaxy nexus) and unlocked the bootloader.
So far everything went normal and good!
Then I wanted to root the system. It was said that I've to enable USB-Debugging again and the system will reboot.
But then :
I tap on "Enable USB-Debugging" and I'm asked If im sure. After this, nothing happens. Usually I see a information-icon, that usb-debugging is enabled in the taskbar.
This icon is now missing. And im completly not able to connect to phone via PC and use ADB.
Im slightly desperated, as anything I could do requires ADB/USB-Debugging.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks in advance.
Does your phone show up as MTP storage OK?
I remember my One X decided to cease all USB activity except charging once, a reboot sorted it.
The USB debugging icon is a little jelly bean as per the attached screenshot.
thanks for your reply.
I dont remember If it was shown as MPT-Storage - will check this immediately after work
THe Jelly-Bean-Icon showed up before, when used the toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
I also rebooted the phone several times
Ok, now everything seems to be identified correctly, again. Very strange.
Maybe the PC needed to be restarted.
Sorry for this post. It can be closed.
Thank you!
Were you able to resolve the problem?
I actually have the same problem also my Nexus 4 is getting very hot and the battery is drain within 4 hours from 100% to ~10% (about 400-800mA consumption).
All stock - I've already contacted the google support but now are holidays.

I've got the same problem, except my device is not loading until 100%. It gets really hot while not doing anything and it's empty in about 3 hours.
I figured out that the Nexus is only charged via "USB" although it's plugged in the charger.
Now my device is charging up until 100% but it still gets hot, is empty in about 5 hours and if I connect it in fastboot mode my laptop says that the drivers are not installed properly even though I installed the naked drivers. Re-installing the drivers does not work either, it says that my laptop already had the right drivers installed. And when I connect my device when it's booted it is not recognized at all and does not show up in the device manager. I tried three other cables... Sounds like an USB brick, right?

My battery life got a lot better with the new Franco kernel but the USB-debugging is just gone. I was wondering if maybe one of the recovery developers could help here. The USB brick solution for the HTC Desire was via Cyanogenmod. But I don't think that they know the solution since it isn't a very common problem as it seems...

[SOLVED] USB connection not working (just charges, no mtp/adb/fastboot)

Hi,
The usb connection of my Nexus 4 suddenly stopped working.
On my pc, or even on different ones, device is not recognized: when plugged in the built-in usb ports the device does not even appear on windows device manager, while on a powered hub (the one inside my lcd display) it appears as an "Unknown device".
The hardware id itself is shown as "USB/UNKNOWN", in this case.
This happens both when the Nexus is in normal mode, or in recovery mode.
In Fastboot mode the phone does not show at all in device list, wherever I plug it in.
I tried to remove /reinstall all the drivers, rebooting both pc and phone, using different cables.
The phone, btw, charges correctly, even when plugged in the built-in ports and works perfectly
I'm on stock 4.2.2 unlocked, rooted + franco kernel M3.
I tried to revert to stock firmware, stock kernel, tried to do a factory reset, with no success.
What can I try more before a RMA?
EDIT: I solved it!!!
This is what I have done, so far: Downloaded 4.3 odexed/rooted update zip from development section, radio and bootloader (link), and applied the update via twrp.
Rebooted, the update was successful, but usb was still no-go.
Rebooted a couple of time after restoring apps using Titanium, still no usb.
So I just switched off my phone, connected to the charger (not the original one, a normal, bulk, 2€ usb charger), and left the phone there for 10 minutes or so.
Then I switched it on, unplugged from charger, plugged to usb and BANG usb and adb are now working.
It looks to me like some setting of the usb status (maybe fast charge???) where messing up the connection.
I tested the phone with every single port on my pc, and now it just works.
Still, I did not update the bootloader, I believe I'll do this later, but it should have no side effect at all.
What cable are you using and have you tried changing MTP to PTP in the Computer USB Settings on the Storage settings in the Settings on your device?
If that does not help then you will have to try an other USB cable.

Nothing. It worked until Friday, I believe.
Then I decided to switch to 4.3, downloaded the update zip from xda to my pc, and when I connected the Nexus in order to put the zip on its storage, it wasn't working anymore.
No hits, no bumps, nothing.
from what you said it seems that you have tried everything possible pc-side, except trying the same things on another os (you should if you have a secondary system)
IMO, something is broken in the phone's usb port, maybe the data pin is screwed up and it wont let your pc recognize the phone, but i'm no expert with circuits

Yeah, it could be possible that the device triggered Fast Charge but the kernel does not support it which could be causing the issue.

[Solved] MTP USB Configuration Problem w/ Win 7

Got this strange problem. Every time when I connect G4 with my Win7 PC via USB, the "Moto G(4)" icon shows up but it is empty under it. I will have to go to the Developer options to click on MTP again (even it is already set to MTP) to show the internal storage. This is really annoying extra step. Anyone knows what is the problem and how to fix it? Thanks.

That setting in the developer options doesn't do anything. Every time you plug it in, it will default to charging and you have to click MTP in the notification. It was that way in the G3 also.

OK, I didn't know you were rooted.
It is a new security feature of Android since lolipop. It is to prevent malware on your pc targeting android connected phones. So that if you were charging it couldn't switch to connect storage without explicit approval on the phone itself.

Security App disables USB debugging

Redmi Note 7 International ROM, 64 bit 48Mpx 32GB 3GB Updated to android 10 QKQ1.190910.002 Miui Global 12.0.1 stable 12.0.1.0(QFGMIXM)
Hi all, there are for and against why USB debugging should be enabled or disabled by default - instead of having to find the option in Developer Options and enabling it there, Google should have made it available in ADB with a password and security question - but they did not do that, and here we are.
Now, I keep the USB debugging enabled on my phone just in case I can't access it other way than ADB(Ilive in the province in the Philippines and not many PRO phone shops here, the local ones can do some things but not recover a phone when USB debugging is OFF) - The problem I'm facing now, is that the build-in Security App(the one you can't disable or customize), disables USB debugging every time it Optimize. It's very annoying.
Do anyone have a solution for this?
Jan
Only solution I can think of is not to use the Security app. It's really annoying that USB debugging gets turned off and you loose Developer options and have to tap it back again. Anybody knows why the Security app can't be removed or just frozen?

Hi Svendsvin, do NOT under any circumstances remove the Security APP, it will send your phone into endless bootloop. I wouldn't try freezing either, since that might do it too.
Seems like Xiaomi just have to fix the app so that this exception can be added(most likely never going to happen, but we can hope and request it in their forum).
with kind regards
