ZV4 - Sprint LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Looks like we shall be getting a new update soon. LG has posted the source code for ZV4. In the past Sprint has started pushing out updates on Mondays or Fridays.

Could this help out with root?

Anyone been able to pull the update yet? On my note 4 I could when it was released but I guess it's different on this. Or maybe it's sprint? Who knows.

Just a thought, but what if we build the update from source as "userdebug," adb sideload it, an then use "adb disable-dm-veity"?

I don't really know how to do all that so I'm not sure but hopefully it will drop soon.

Looks like LG has confirmed it.

I read in one of AT&T update threads and a couple users had to actually have their Sim cards replaced then the update worked. Hopefully this isn't the case with ours.

Not yet for me also.
Unrelated I did get a PRL update from 55052 to 55054

I think we'll get it on Monday.

They do it in stages, so we all wont get it at the same time. can take 2 to 3 weeks for everyone to get it. :/ kinda annoying.

I never had a problem pulling them on my note 4 once they were released but they could've changed that. Only time will tell.

Been following this on the s7 edge...could it be of use?

Foxfi Working!!!

There is no need to do the entitlement check anymore guys, foxfi finally updated and made it where it will work with maxx, mini, and last but not least, Ultra. If you have done the entitlement check then you are set, but if you got caught in the updates and didn't ever do it this is the way to get tethering for only 8 dollars one time!!

Didn't work. I bought the app a long time ago. Wish they would get it right without certificates needed.

I don't know why it isn't working with you, I also bought it a long time ago and it didn't work but was just released yesterday so maybe there are bugs

WOOOHOOO Confirmed FoxFi working again, I also bought it many moons ago, maybe those having trouble are trying to use the free version?
Very much appreciated, the only reason I ever rooted my phone was for tether. Now after OTA there's a cryptogram of crap to go thru for root,
:good:

Same here I'm not trying to have to root again. Hopefully this will work after they send the next official update after the soak test.
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
I am on the soak and maybe that is affecting things?
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm not part of any soak test that I'm aware of, I did sign up many moons ago but never received any official correspondence.

New wanam update

Anyone see this new update to set the SELinux to permissive on boot.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Saw that. That should fix the TiBu app restore problem I think.
From what I've read, this is what was holding back potentially going around the bootloader. Is this what this means?

Let hashcode know. That's what he needs for safestrap.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I sure hope so. I know the devs are working hard and I cant wait for custom roms. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I tried it and it still says enforcing? It says Beta in wanam, so maybe not quite?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I got the same result. Not sure what if anything it will do.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I got the update but don't have this in there
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It should be in the section for security hacks

Wanam had another update and it says you may need to grant root access to android os process. Not sure how that would differ from root I have now?

This has probably to do with what they were working on Verizon. They got safestrap working on Verizon and said they should have safestrap for ATT in a week or so.
Hopefully this has something to do with that and we can get the workaround for the bootloader.
Edit: You can do a search for safestrap verizon att note 3 and you'll find it.
It has not been updated about the ATT safestrap, but you can see where it says it would be coming in the next week. They stated that on the 11/17. So...... it's been a week.

For some reason I was prompted to do a new update on wanam.. I did. Rebooted with the SELinux option xhexked. When I rebooted I got a messaged suing android o's denied. When into super super there was a new option and I set it to granted.. However still says enforcing but I think we are getting somewhere.

I had an idea...

After reading this http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ncryption-signing-and-locking-let-me-explain/ article, I got to thinking. Could we brute force the private Samsung key and sign our own ROMs? And would such a procedure allow true custom ROMs to be installed?
Just a thought, if it is possible I'd love to fiddle around with it.

I'm getting my upgrade tomorrow, moving from a Galaxy S 3 to the G5, it's a huge step and I admit I'll miss my root access, but I think the phone is awesome enough that it warrants having to wait on a root to be made for it.

I'm using adguard which blocks ads within all apps and that was pretty much my main reason to root. Yeah it cost 10 bucks for the app after a 30 day trial but what's 10 bucks? And this device is so lighting quick I don't feel the need to overclock like I used to and battery life is a non issue having 3 batteries. I don't know. With all that in this device's favor I just don't fee the need for root.

Im glad you dont feel the need for root...but for paying $600 it should be our option...

I couldn't agree more. It's our device and we should be able to do what we want with it. I think the time should come soon though.
